cb751b7a57 mac80211: add parse regulatory info in 6 GHz operation information
This patch is to convert the regulatory info subfield in HE operation
element to power type and save in struct cfg80211_chan_def.

5d24828d05 mac80211: always allocate struct ieee802_11_elems
As the 802.11 spec evolves, we need to parse more and more
elements. This is causing the struct to grow, and we can no
longer get away with putting it on the stack.

Change the API to always dynamically allocate and return an
allocated pointer that must be kfree()d later.

As an alternative, I contemplated a scheme whereby we'd say
in the code which elements we needed, e.g.

    DECLARE_ELEMENT_PARSER(elems,
                           SUPPORTED_CHANNELS,
                           CHANNEL_SWITCH,
                           EXT(KEY_DELIVERY));

    ieee802_11_parse_elems(..., &elems, ...);

and while I think this is possible and will save us a lot
since most individual places only care about a small subset
of the elements, it ended up being a bit more work since a
lot of places do the parsing and then pass the struct to
other functions, sometimes with multiple levels.

49a765d678 mac80211: mlme: find auth challenge directly
There's no need to parse all elements etc. just to find the
authentication challenge - use cfg80211_find_elem() instead.
This also allows us to remove WLAN_EID_CHALLENGE handling
from the element parsing entirely.

While building probe requests, only enable HE capability if
there are actually any channels in the band with HE enabled,
otherwise we're not really capable. We're doing the same in

This also makes HE not appear available if it isn't due to
regulatory constraints.

f5baf287f5 mac80211: move interface shutdown out of wiphy lock
When reconfiguration fails, we shut down everything, but we
cannot call cfg80211_shutdown_all_interfaces() with the wiphy
mutex held. Since cfg80211 now calls it on resume errors, we
only need to do likewise for where we call reconfig (whether
directly or indirectly), but not under the wiphy lock.

f30386a85f mac80211: make ieee80211_vif_to_wdev work when the vif isn't in the driver
This will allow the low level driver to get the wdev during
the add_interface flow.
In order to do that, remove a few checks from there and do
not return NULL for vifs that were not yet added to the
driver. Note that all the current callers of this helper
function assume that the vif already exists:
 - The callers from the drivers already have a vif pointer.
 Before this change, ieee80211_vif_to_wdev would return NULL
 in some cases, but those callers don't even check they
 get a non-NULL pointer from ieee80211_vif_to_wdev.
 - The callers from net/mac80211/cfg.c assume the vif is
 already added to the driver as well.

So, this change has no impact on existing callers of this
helper function.

0f7e90fadd mac80211: Allow HE operation to be longer than expected.
We observed some Cisco APs sending the following HE Operation IE in
associate response:

  ff 0a 24 f4 3f 00 01 fc ff 00 00 00

Its HE operation parameter is 0x003ff4, so the expected total length is
7 which does not match the actual length = 10. This causes association
failing with "HE AP is missing HE Capability/operation."

According to P802.11ax_D4 Table9-94, HE operation is extensible, and
according to 802.11-2016 10.27.8, STA should discard the part beyond
the maximum length and parse the truncated element.

Allow HE operation element to be longer than expected to handle this
case and future extensions.

a05829a722 cfg80211: avoid holding the RTNL when calling the driver
Currently, _everything_ in cfg80211 holds the RTNL, and if you
have a slow USB device (or a few) you can get some bad lock
contention on that.

Fix that by re-adding a mutex to each wiphy/rdev as we had at
some point, so we have locking for the wireless_dev lists and
all the other things in there, and also so that drivers still
don't have to worry too much about it (they still won't get
parallel calls for a single device).

Then, we can restrict the RTNL to a few cases where we add or
remove interfaces and really need the added protection. Some
of the global list management still also uses the RTNL, since
we need to have it anyway for netdev management, but we only
hold the RTNL for very short periods of time here.

over interfaces that are not sdata-in-driver. This will allow
us to fix crashes in ath10k (and possibly other drivers).

To summarize Johannes' explanation:

Consider

add interface wlan0
add interface wlan1
iterate active interfaces -> wlan0 wlan1
add interface wlan2
iterate active interfaces -> wlan0 wlan1 wlan2

If you apply this scenario to a restart, which ought to be functionally
equivalent to the normal startup, just compressed in time, you're
basically saying that today you get

add interface wlan0
add interface wlan1
iterate active interfaces -> wlan0 wlan1 wlan2 << problem here
add interface wlan2
iterate active interfaces -> wlan0 wlan1 wlan2

which yeah, totally seems wrong.

But fixing that to be

add interface wlan0
add interface wlan1
iterate active interfaces ->
<nothing>
add interface wlan2
iterate active interfaces -> <nothing>
(or
maybe -> wlan0 wlan1 wlan2 if the reconfig already completed)

This is also at least somewhat wrong, but better to not iterate
over something that exists in the driver than iterate over something
that does not. Originally the first issue was causing crashes in
testing with lots of station vdevs on an ath10k radio, combined
with firmware crashing.

I ran with a similar patch for years with no obvious bad results,
including significant testing with ath9k and ath10k.

33181ea7f5 mac80211: fix wrong 160/80+80 MHz setting
Before this patch, STA's would set new width of 160/80+80 MHz based on AP capability only.
This is wrong because STA may not support > 80MHz BW.
Fix is to verify STA has 160/80+80 MHz capability before increasing its width to > 80MHz.

The "support_80_80" and "support_160" setting is based on:

a04564c99b mac80211: consider more elements in parsing CRC
We only use the parsing CRC for checking if a beacon changed,

 - WLAN_EID_VHT_OPERATION

I guess that in most cases when VHT/HE operation change, the HT

d8dec42b5c mac80211: keep BHs disabled while calling drv_tx_wake_queue()
Drivers typically expect this, as it's the case for almost all cases

4b08d1b6a9 mac80211: IBSS: send deauth when expiring inactive STAs
When we expire an inactive station, try to send it a deauth. This
helps if it's actually still around, and just has issues with
beacon distribution (or we do), and it will not also remove us.
Then, if we have shared state, this may not be reset properly,
causing problems; for example, we saw a case where aggregation
sessions weren't removed properly (due to the TX start being
offloaded to firmware and it relying on deauth for stop), causing
a lot of traffic to get lost due to the SN reset after remove/add
of the peer.

624ff4b210 mac80211: clear crypto tx tailroom counter upon keys enable
In case we got a fw restart while roaming from encrypted AP to
non-encrypted one, we might end up with hitting a warning on the pending
counter crypto_tx_tailroom_pending_dec having a non-zero value.

The following comment taken from net/mac80211/key.c explains the rational
for the delayed tailroom needed:

	/*
	* The reason for the delayed tailroom needed decrementing is to
	* make roaming faster: during roaming, all keys are first deleted
	* and then new keys are installed. The first new key causes the
	* crypto_tx_tailroom_needed_cnt to go from 0 to 1, which invokes
	* the cost of synchronize_net() (which can be slow). Avoid this
	* by deferring the crypto_tx_tailroom_needed_cnt decrementing on
	* key removal for a while, so if we roam the value is larger than
	* zero and no 0->1 transition happens.
	*
	* The cost is that if the AP switching was from an AP with keys
	* to one without, we still allocate tailroom while it would no
	* longer be needed. However, in the typical (fast) roaming case
	* within an ESS this usually won't happen.
	*/

The next flow lead to the warning eventually reported as a bug:
1. Disconnect from encrypted AP
2. Set crypto_tx_tailroom_pending_dec = 1 for the key
3. Schedule work
4. Reconnect to non-encrypted AP
5. Add a new key, setting the tailroom counter = 1
