x86/fpu: Optimize out sigframe xfeatures when in init state
tl;dr: AMX state is ~8k. Signal frames can have space for this
~8k and each signal entry writes out all 8k even if it is zeros.
Skip writing zeros for AMX to speed up signal delivery by about
4% overall when AMX is in its init state.
This is a user-visible change to the sigframe ABI.

XSAVE state components may be tracked by the processor as being
in their initial configuration. Software can detect which
features are in this configuration by looking at the XSTATE_BV
field in an XSAVE buffer or with the XGETBV(1) instruction.
Both the XSAVE and XSAVEOPT instructions enumerate features s
being in the initial configuration via the XSTATE_BV field in the
XSAVE header, However, XSAVEOPT declines to actually write
features in their initial configuration to the buffer. XSAVE
writes the feature unconditionally, regardless of whether it is
in the initial configuration or not.
Basically, XSAVE users never need to inspect XSTATE_BV to
determine if the feature has been written to the buffer.
XSAVEOPT users *do* need to inspect XSTATE_BV. They might also
need to clear out the buffer if they want to make an isolated
change to the state, like modifying one register.
== Software Signal / XSAVE Background ==
Signal frames have historically been written with XSAVE itself.
Each state is written in its entirety, regardless of being in its
initial configuration.
In other words, the signal frame ABI uses the XSAVE behavior, not
the XSAVEOPT behavior.
== Problem ==
This means that any application which has acquired permission to
use AMX via ARCH_REQ_XCOMP_PERM will write 8k of state to the
signal frame. This 8k write will occur even when AMX was in its
initial configuration and software *knows* this because of
XSTATE_BV.
This problem also exists to a lesser degree with AVX-512 and its
2k of state. However, AVX-512 use does not require
ARCH_REQ_XCOMP_PERM and is more likely to have existing users
which would be impacted by any change in behavior.
== Solution ==
Stop writing out AMX xfeatures which are in their initial state
to the signal frame. This effectively makes the signal frame
XSAVE buffer look as if it were written with a combination of
XSAVEOPT and XSAVE behavior. Userspace which handles XSAVEOPT-
style buffers should be able to handle this naturally.
For now, include only the AMX xfeatures: XTILE and XTILEDATA in
this new behavior. These require new ABI to use anyway, which
makes their users very unlikely to be broken. This XSAVEOPT-like
behavior should be expected for all future dynamic xfeatures. It
may also be extended to legacy features like AVX-512 in the
future.
Only attempt this optimization on systems with dynamic features.
Disable dynamic feature support (XFD) if XGETBV1 is unavailable
by adding a CPUID dependency.
This has been measured to reduce the *overall* cycle cost of
signal delivery by about 4%.

x86/sgx/virt: implement SGX_IOC_VEPC_REMOVE ioctl
For bare-metal SGX on real hardware, the hardware provides guarantees SGX state at reboot. For instance, all pages start out uninitialized. The vepc driver provides a similar guarantee today for freshly-opened vepc instances, but guests such as Windows expect all pages to be in uninitialized state on startup, including after every guest reboot. Some userspace implementations of virtual SGX would rather avoid having to close and reopen the /dev/sgx_vepc file descriptor and re-mmap the virtual EPC. For example, they could sandbox themselves after the guest starts and forbid further calls to open(), in order to mitigate exploits from untrusted guests. Therefore, add a ioctl that does this with EREMOVE. Userspace can invoke the ioctl to bring its vEPC pages back to uninitialized state. There is a possibility that some pages fail to be removed if they are SECS pages, and the child and SECS pages could be in separate vEPC regions. Therefore, the ioctl returns the number of EREMOVE failures, telling userspace to try the ioctl again after it's done with all vEPC regions. A more verbose description of the correct usage and the possible error conditions is documented in sgx.rst. Fixes and improvements for FPU handling on x86:
- Prevent sigaltstack out of bounds writes. The kernel unconditionally writes the FPU state to the alternate stack without checking whether the stack is large enough to accomodate it. Check the alternate stack size before doing so and in case it's too small force a SIGSEGV instead of silently corrupting user space data. - MINSIGSTKZ and SIGSTKSZ are constants in signal.h and have never been updated despite the fact that the FPU state which is stored on the signal stack has grown over time which causes trouble in the field when AVX512 is available on a CPU. The kernel does not expose the minimum requirements for the alternate stack size depending on the available and enabled CPU features. ARM already added an aux vector AT_MINSIGSTKSZ for the same reason. Add it to x86 as well - A major cleanup of the x86 FPU code. The recent discoveries of XSTATE related issues unearthed quite some inconsistencies, duplicated code and other issues. The fine granular overhaul addresses this, makes the code more robust and maintainable, which allows to integrate upcoming XSTATE related features in sane ways. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJHBAABCgAxFiEEQp8+kY+LLUocC4bMphj1TA10mKEFAmDlcpETHHRnbHhAbGlu dXRyb25peC5kZQAKCRCmGPVMDXSYoeP5D/4i+AgYYeiMLgGb+NS7iaKPfoWo6LIz y3qdTSA0DQaIYbYivWwRO/g0GYdDMXDWeZalFi7eGnVI8O3eOog+22Zrf/y0UINB KJHdYd4ApWHhs401022y5hexrWQvnV8w1yQCuj/zLm6eC+AVhdwt2AY+IBoRrdUj wqY97B/4rJNsBvvqTDn9EeDrJA2y0y0Suc7AhIp2BGMI+dpIdxys8RJDamXNWyDL gJf0YRgUoiIn3AHKb+fgv60AoxfC175NSg/5/y/scFNXqVlW0Up4YCb7pqG9o2Ga f3XvtWfbw1N5PmUYjFkALwEkzGUbM3v0RA3xLY2j2WlWm9fBPPy59dt+i/h/VKyA GrA7i7lcIqX8dfVH6XkrReZBkRDSB6t9SZTvV54jAz5fcIZO2Rg++UFUvI/R6GKK XCcxukYaArwo+IG62iqDszS3gfLGhcor/cviOeULRC5zMUIO4Jah+IhDnifmShtC M5s9QzrwIRD/XMewGRQmvkiN4kBfE7jFoBQr1J9leCXJKrM+2JQmMzVInuubTQIq SdlKOaAIn7xtekz+6XdFG9Gmhck0PCLMJMOLNvQkKWI3KqGLRZ+dAWKK0vsCizAx 0BA7ZeB9w9lFT+D8mQCX77JvW9+VNwyfwIOLIrJRHk3VqVpS5qvoiFTLGJJBdZx4 /TbbRZu7nXDN2w== =Mq1m -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'x86-fpu-2021-07-07' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull x86 fpu updates from Thomas Gleixner: "Fixes and improvements for FPU handling on x86: - Prevent sigaltstack out of bounds writes. x86/elf: Support a new ELF aux vector AT_MINSIGSTKSZ
Historically, signal.h defines MINSIGSTKSZ (2KB) and SIGSTKSZ (8KB), for
use by all architectures with sigaltstack(2). Over time, the hardware state
size grew, but these constants did not evolve. Today, literal use of these
constants on several architectures may result in signal stack overflow, and
thus user data corruption.
A few years ago, the ARM team addressed this issue by establishing
getauxval(AT_MINSIGSTKSZ). This enables the kernel to supply a value
at runtime that is an appropriate replacement on current and future
hardware.
Add getauxval(AT_MINSIGSTKSZ) support to x86, analogous to the support
added for ARM in

x86/sgx: Introduce virtual EPC for use by KVM guests
Add a misc device /dev/sgx_vepc to allow userspace to allocate "raw" Enclave Page Cache (EPC) without an associated enclave. The intended and only known use case for raw EPC allocation is to expose EPC to a KVM guest, hence the 'vepc' moniker, virt.{c,h} files and X86_SGX_KVM Kconfig. The SGX driver uses the misc device /dev/sgx_enclave to support userspace in creating an enclave. Each file descriptor returned from opening /dev/sgx_enclave represents an enclave. Unlike the SGX driver, KVM doesn't control how the guest uses the EPC, therefore EPC allocated to a KVM guest is not associated with an enclave, and /dev/sgx_enclave is not suitable for allocating EPC for a KVM guest. Having separate device nodes for the SGX driver and KVM virtual EPC also allows separate permission control for running host SGX enclaves and KVM SGX guests. To use /dev/sgx_vepc to allocate a virtual EPC instance with particular size, the hypervisor opens /dev/sgx_vepc, and uses mmap() with the intended size to get an address range of virtual EPC. Then it may use the address range to create one KVM memory slot as virtual EPC for a guest. Implement the "raw" EPC allocation in the x86 core-SGX subsystem via /dev/sgx_vepc rather than in KVM. Doing so has two major advantages: - Does not require changes to KVM's uAPI, e.g. EPC gets handled as just another memory backend for guests. - EPC management is wholly contained in the SGX subsystem, e.g. SGX does not have to export any symbols, changes to reclaim flows don't need to be routed through KVM, SGX's dirty laundry doesn't have to get aired out for the world to see, and so on and so forth. The virtual EPC pages allocated to guests are currently not reclaimable. Reclaiming an EPC page used by enclave requires a special reclaim mechanism separate from normal page reclaim, and that mechanism is not supported for virutal EPC pages. Due to the complications of handling reclaim conflicts between guest and host, reclaiming virtual EPC pages is significantly more complex than basic support for SGX virtualization. x86/sgx: Wipe out EREMOVE from sgx_free_epc_page()
EREMOVE takes a page and removes any association between that page and an enclave. It must be run on a page before it can be added into another enclave. Currently, EREMOVE is run as part of pages being freed into the SGX page allocator. It is not expected to fail, as it would indicate a use-after-free of EPC pages. Rather than add the page back to the pool of available EPC pages, the kernel intentionally leaks the page to avoid additional errors in the future. However, KVM does not track how guest pages are used, which means that SGX virtualization use of EREMOVE might fail. Specifically, it is legitimate that EREMOVE returns SGX_CHILD_PRESENT for EPC assigned to KVM guest, because KVM/kernel doesn't track SECS pages. To allow SGX/KVM to introduce a more permissive EREMOVE helper and to let the SGX virtualization code use the allocator directly, break out the EREMOVE call from the SGX page allocator. Rename the original sgx_free_epc_page() to sgx_encl_free_epc_page(), indicating that it is used to free an EPC page assigned to a host enclave. Replace sgx_free_epc_page() with sgx_encl_free_epc_page() in all call sites so there's no functional change. At the same time, improve the error message when EREMOVE fails, and add documentation to explain to the user what that failure means and to suggest to the user what to do when this bug happens in the case it happens. x86/CPU/AMD: Save AMD NodeId as cpu_die_id
AMD systems provide a "NodeId" value that represents a global ID indicating to which "Node" a logical CPU belongs. The "Node" is a physical structure equivalent to a Die, and it should not be confused with logical structures like NUMA nodes. Logical nodes can be adjusted based on firmware or other settings whereas the physical nodes/dies are fixed based on hardware topology. The NodeId value can be used when a physical ID is needed by software. Save the AMD NodeId to struct cpuinfo_x86.cpu_die_id. Use the value from CPUID or MSR as appropriate. Default to phys_proc_id otherwise. Do so for both AMD and Hygon systems. Drop the node_id parameter from cacheinfo_*_init_llc_id() as it is no longer needed. Update the x86 topology documentation. dt: Remove booting-without-of.rst
booting-without-of.rst is an ancient document that first outlined Flattened DeviceTree on PowerPC initially. The DT world has evolved a lot in the 15 years since and booting-without-of.rst is pretty stale. The name of the document itself is confusing if you don't understand the evolution from real 'OpenFirmware'. Most of what booting-without-of.rst contains is now in the DT specification (which evolved out of the ePAPR). The few things that weren't documented in the DT specification are now. All that remains is the boot entry details, so let's move these to arch specific documents. The exception is arm which already has the same details documented.
