4f21bfed69 perf tests pmu: Initialize all fields of test_pmu variable
Instead of explicitely initializing just the .name and .alias_name,
use struct member named initialization of just the non-null -name field,
the compiler will initialize all the other non-explicitely initialized
fields to NULL.

This makes the code more robust, avoiding the error recently fixed when
the .alias_name was used and contained a random value.

37e2a19c98 perf test pmu: Set uninitialized PMU alias to null
Commit 3e0bf9fde2 ("perf pmu: Restore full PMU name wildcard
support") adds a test case "PMU cmdline match" that covers PMU name
wildcard support provided by function perf_pmu__match().

The test works with a wide range of supported combinations of PMU name
matching but omits the case that if the perf_pmu__match() cannot match
the PMU name to the wildcard, it tries to match its alias. However, this
variable is not set up, causing the test case to fail when run with
subprocesses or to segfault if run as a single process.

3e0bf9fde2 perf pmu: Restore full PMU name wildcard support
Commit b2b9d3a3f0 ("perf pmu: Support wildcards on pmu name in dynamic
pmu events") gives the following example for wildcarding a subset of
PMUs:

  E.g., in a system with the following dynamic pmus:

        mypmu_0
        mypmu_1
        mypmu_2
        mypmu_4

  perf stat -e mypmu_[01]/<config>/

Since commit f91fa2ae63 ("perf pmu: Refactor perf_pmu__match()"), only
"*" has been supported, removing the ability to subset PMUs, even though
parse-events.l still supports ? and [] characters.

Fix it by using fnmatch() when any glob character is detected and add a
test which covers that and other scenarios of
perf_pmu__match_ignoring_suffix().

65b37df8c6 perf test pmu: Warn don't fail for legacy mixed case event names
PowerPC has mixed case events matching legacy hardware cache
events. Warn but don't fail in this case. Event parsing will still
work in this case by matching the legacy case.

6debc5aa32 perf test pmu: Test all sysfs PMU event names are the same case
Being either lower or upper case means event name probes can avoid
scanning the directory doing case insensitive comparisons, just the
lower or upper case version of the name can be checked for
existence.

For the majority of PMUs event names are all lower case, upper case
names are present on S390.

18eb2ca8c1 perf test pmu: Add an eagerly loaded event test
Allow events/aliases to be eagerly loaded for a PMU. Factor out the
pmu_aliases_parse to allow this.

Parse a test event and check it configures the attribute as expected.

There is overlap with the parse-events tests, but this test is done with
a PMU created in a temp directory and doesn't rely on PMUs in sysfs.

aa1551f299 perf test pmu: Refactor format test and exposed test APIs
In tests/pmu.c, make a common utility that creates a PMU in a mkdtemp
directory and uses regular PMU parsing logic to load that PMU. Formats
must still be eagerly loaded as by default the PMU code assumes devices
are going to be in sysfs.

In util/pmu.[ch], hide perf_pmu__format_parse but add the eager argument
to perf_pmu__lookup called by perf_pmus__add_test_pmu. Later patches
will eagerly load other non-sysfs files when eager loading is enabled.

In tests/pmu.c, rather than manually constructing a list of term
arguments, just use the term parsing code from a string.

Add more comments and debug logging.

0d3f0e6f94 perf parse-events: Introduce 'struct parse_events_terms'
parse_events_terms() existed in function names but was passed a
'struct list_head'.

As many parse_events functions take an evsel_config list as well as a
parse_event_term list, and the naming head_terms and head_config is
inconsistent, there's a potential to switch the lists and get errors.

Introduce a 'struct parse_events_terms', that just wraps a list_head, to
avoid this. Add the regular init/exit functions and transition the code
to use them.

5040264121 perf pmu: Make the loading of formats lazy
The sysfs format files are loaded eagerly in a PMU. Add a flag so that
we create the format but only load the contents when necessary.

Reduce the size of the value in struct perf_pmu_format and avoid holes
so there is no additional space requirement.

For "perf stat -e cycles true" this reduces the number of openat calls
from 648 to 573 (about 12%). The benchmark pmu scan speed is improved
by roughly 5%.

Before:

Avoid two static paths that contributed 8,192 bytes to .bss are only
used duing the perf parse pmu test. This change helps FORTIFY
triggering 2 warnings like:

e293a5e816 perf pmu: Use relative path for sysfs scan
The PMU information is in the kernel sysfs so it needs to scan the
directory to get the whole information like event aliases, formats and
so on.  During the traversal, it opens a lot of files and directories
like below:

  dir = opendir("/sys/bus/event_source/devices");
  while (dentry = readdir(dir)) {
    char buf[PATH_MAX];

    snprintf(buf, sizeof(buf), "%s/%s",
             "/sys/bus/event_source/devices", dentry->d_name);
    fd = open(buf, O_RDONLY);
    ...
  }

But this is not good since it needs to copy the string to build the
absolute pathname, and it makes redundant pathname walk (from the /sys)
unnecessarily.  We can use openat(2) to open the file in the given
directory.  While it's not a problem ususally, it can be a problem when
the kernel has contentions on the sysfs.

Add a couple of new helper to return the file descriptor of PMU
directory so that it can use it with relative paths.

 * perf_pmu__event_source_devices_fd()
   - returns a fd for the PMU root ("/sys/bus/event_source/devices")

 * perf_pmu__pathname_fd()
   - returns a fd for "<pmu>/<file>" under the PMU root

Now the above code can be converted something like below:

  dirfd = perf_pmu__event_source_devices_fd();
  dir = fdopendir(dirfd);
  while (dentry = readdir(dir)) {
    fd = openat(dirfd, dentry->d_name, O_RDONLY);
    ...
  }

4ac22b484d perf parse-events: Make add PMU verbose output clearer
On a CPU like skylakex an uncore_iio_0 PMU may alias with
uncore_iio_free_running_0. The latter PMU doesn't support fc_mask as a
parameter and so pmu_config_term fails. Typically parse_events_add_pmu
is called in a loop where if one alias succeeds errors are ignored,
however, if multiple errors occur parse_events__handle_error will
currently give a WARN_ONCE.

This change removes the WARN_ONCE in parse_events__handle_error and
makes it a pr_debug. It adds verbose messages to parse_events_add_pmu
warning that non-fatal errors may occur, while giving details on the pmu
and config terms for useful context. pmu_config_term is altered so the
failing term and pmu are present in the case of the 'unknown term' error
which makes spotting the free_running case more straightforward.

With gcc 8 we get new set of snprintf() warnings that breaks the
compilation, one example:

  tests/mem.c: In function ‘check’:
  tests/mem.c:19:48: error: ‘%s’ directive output may be truncated writing \
        up to 99 bytes into a region of size 89 [-Werror=format-truncation=]
    snprintf(failure, sizeof failure, "unexpected %s", out);

The gcc docs says:

 To avoid the warning either use a bigger buffer or handle the
 function's return value which indicates whether or not its output
 has been truncated.

Given that all these warnings are harmless, because the code either
properly fails due to uncomplete file path or we don't care for
truncated output at all, I'm changing all those snprintf() calls to
scnprintf(), which actually 'checks' for the snprint return value so the
gcc stays silent.

b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier.  The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne.  Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed.  Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
   considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

   For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

   SPDX license identifier                            # files

   and resulted in the first patch in this series.

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
   license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
   licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
   resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
   which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
   confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
   the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights.  The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
   files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
   was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction.  This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg.  Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected.  This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.)  Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

81f17c90f1 perf test: Add 'struct test *' to the test functions
This way we'll be able to pass more test specific parameters without
having to change this function signature.

Will be used by the upcoming 'shell tests', shell scripts that will
call perf tools and check if they work as expected, comparing its
effects on the system (think 'perf probe foo') the output produced, etc.

721a1f53df perf tests: Pass the subtest index to each test routine
Some tests have sub-tests we want to run, so allow passing this.

Wang tried to avoid having to touch all tests, but then, having the
test.func in an anonymous union makes the build fail on older compilers,
like the one in RHEL6, where:

  test a = {
	.func = foo,
  };

fails.

To fix it leave the func pointer in the main structure and pass the subtest
index to all tests, end result function is the same, but we have just one
function pointer, not two, with and without the subtest index as an argument.

dc0a620242 perf tools: Let default config be defined for a PMU
This allows default config terms to be provided for a PMU. So, for
example, when the Intel PT PMU is added, it will be possible to specify:

	intel_pt//

which will be the same as:

	intel_pt/tsc=1,noretcomp=0/

meaning that the trace should contain TSC timestamps and perform 'return
compression'.

An important consideration of this patch is that it must be possible to
overwrite the default values.  That has meant changing the logic so that
a zero value can replace a non-zero value.
