drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/pcie/trans.c
The iwlwifi conflict was resolved by keeping the code added
in 'net' that turns off the buggy chip feature.
The MAINTAINERS conflict was merely overlapping changes, one
change updated all the wireless web site URLs and the other
changed some GIT trees to be Johannes's instead of John's.

Commit 081b1b1bb2 (l2tp: fix l2tp_ip_sendmsg() route handling) added
a race, in case IP route cache is disabled.
In this case, we should not do the dst_release(&rt->dst), since it'll
free the dst immediately, instead of waiting a RCU grace period.

Adding casts of objects to the same type is unnecessary
and confusing for a human reader.
For example, this cast:

int *p = (int *)&y;
I used the coccinelle script below to find and remove these
unnecessary casts. I manually removed the conversions this
script produces of casts with __force and __user.

Generic netlink searches for -type- formatted aliases when requesting a module to
fulfill a protocol request (i.e. net-pf-16-proto-16-type-<x>, where x is a type
value). However generic netlink protocols have no well defined type numbers,
they have string names. Modify genl_ctrl_getfamily to request an alias in the
format net-pf-16-proto-16-family-<x> instead, where x is a generic string, and
add a macro that builds on the previously added MODULE_ALIAS_NET_PF_PROTO_NAME
macro to allow modules to specifify those generic strings.
Note, l2tp previously hacked together an net-pf-16-proto-16-type-l2tp alias
using the MODULE_ALIAS macro, with these updates we can convert that to use the
PROTO_NAME macro.

An application may call connect() to disconnect a socket using an
address with family AF_UNSPEC. The L2TP IP sockets were not handling
this case when the socket is not bound and an attempt to connect()
using AF_UNSPEC in such cases would result in an oops. This patch
addresses the problem by protecting the sk_prot->disconnect() call
against trying to unhash the socket before it is bound.
The L2TP IPv4 and IPv6 sockets have the same problem. Both are fixed
by this patch.
The patch also adds more checks that the sockaddr supplied to bind()
and connect() calls is valid.

If enabled, L2TP data packets have sequence numbers which a receiver
can use to drop out of sequence frames or try to reorder them. The
first frame has sequence number 0, but the L2TP code currently expects
it to be 1. This results in the first data frame being handled as out
of sequence.
This one-line patch fixes the problem.

When L2TP data packet reordering is enabled, packets are held in a
queue while waiting for out-of-sequence packets. If a packet gets
lost, packets will be held until the reorder timeout expires, when we
are supposed to then advance to the sequence number of the next packet
but we don't currently do so. As a result, the data channel is stuck
because we are waiting for a packet that will never arrive - all
packets age out and none are passed.
The fix is to add a flag to the session context, which is set when the
reorder timeout expires and tells the receive code to reset the next
expected sequence number to that of the next packet in the queue.
Tested in a production L2TP network with Starent and Nortel L2TP gear.

Most machines dont use UDP encapsulation (L2TP)
Adds a static_key so that udp_queue_rcv_skb() doesnt have to perform a
test if L2TP never setup the encap_rcv on a socket.
Idea of this patch came after Simon Horman proposal to add a hook on TCP
as well.
If static_key is not yet enabled, the fast path does a single JMP .
When static_key is enabled, JMP destination is patched to reach the real
encap_type/encap_rcv logic, possibly adding cache misses.

When a packet is received on an L2TP IP socket (L2TPv3 IP link
encapsulation), the l2tpip socket's backlog_rcv function calls
xfrm4_policy_check(). This is not necessary, since it was called
before the skb was added to the backlog. With CONFIG_NET_NS enabled,
xfrm4_policy_check() will oops if skb->dev is null, so this trivial
patch removes the call.
This bug has always been present, but only when CONFIG_NET_NS is
enabled does it cause problems. Most users are probably using UDP
encapsulation for L2TP, hence the problem has only recently
surfaced.

When using l2tp over ipsec, the tunnel will hang when rekeying

l2tp_xmit_skb() must take the socket lock. It makes use of ip_queue_xmit()
which expects to execute in a socket atomic context.
Since we execute this function in software interrupts, we cannot use the
usual lock_sock()/release_sock() sequence, instead we have to use
bh_lock_sock() and see if a user has the socket locked, and if so drop
the packet.

Both l2tp_ip_connect() and l2tp_ip_sendmsg() must take the socket

l2tp_ip_sendmsg() increments socket private counters without using
atomic operations.

Thankfully, we're only interested in fetching the faddr value

We lack proper synchronization to manipulate inet->opt ip_options
Problem is ip_make_skb() calls ip_setup_cork() and
ip_setup_cork() possibly makes a copy of ipc->opt (struct ip_options),
without any protection against another thread manipulating inet->opt.
Another thread can change inet->opt pointer and free old one under us.
Use RCU to protect inet->opt (changed to inet->inet_opt).
Instead of handling atomic refcounts, just copy ip_options when
necessary, to avoid cache line dirtying.
We cant insert an rcu_head in struct ip_options since its included in
skb->cb[], so this patch is large because I had to introduce a new
ip_options_rcu structure.

These functions are used together as a unit for route resolution
during connect(). They address the chicken-and-egg problem that
exists when ports need to be allocated during connect() processing,
yet such port allocations require addressing information from the
routing code.
It's currently more heavy handed than it needs to be, and in
particular we allocate and initialize a flow object twice.
Let the callers provide the on-stack flow object. That way we only
need to initialize it once in the ip_route_connect() call.
Later, if ip_route_newports() needs to do anything, it re-uses that
flow object as-is except for the ports which it updates before the
route re-lookup.
Also, describe why this set of facilities are needed and how it works
in a big comment.

This patch adds support for static (unmanaged) L2TPv3 tunnels, where
the tunnel socket is created by the kernel rather than being created
by userspace. This means L2TP tunnels and sessions can be created
manually, without needing an L2TP control protocol implemented in
userspace. This might be useful where the user wants a simple ethernet
over IP tunnel.
A patch to iproute2 adds a new command set under "ip l2tp" to make use
of this feature. This will be submitted separately.

The existing pppol2tp driver exports debug info to
/proc/net/pppol2tp. Rather than adding info to that file for the new
functionality added in this patch series, we add new files in debugfs,
leaving the old /proc file for backwards compatibility (L2TPv2 only).
Currently only one file is provided: l2tp/tunnels, which lists
internal debug info for all l2tp tunnels and sessions. More files may
be added later. The info is for debug and problem analysis only -
userspace apps should use netlink to obtain status about l2tp tunnels
and sessions.
Although debugfs does not support net namespaces, the tunnels and
sessions dumped in l2tp/tunnels are only those in the net namespace of
the process reading the file.

This driver presents a regular net_device for each L2TP ethernet
pseudowire instance. These interfaces are named l2tpethN by default,
though userspace can specify an alternative name when the L2TP
session is created, if preferred. When the pseudowire is established,
regular Linux networking utilities may be used to configure the
interface, i.e. give it IP address info or add it to a bridge. Any
data passed over the interface is carried over an L2TP tunnel.

In L2TPv3, we need to create/delete/modify/query L2TP tunnel and
session contexts. The number of parameters is significant. So let's
use netlink. Userspace uses this API to control L2TP tunnel/session
contexts in the kernel.
The previous pppol2tp driver was managed using [gs]etsockopt(). This
API is retained for backwards compatibility. Unlike L2TPv2 which
carries only PPP frames, L2TPv3 can carry raw ethernet frames or other
frame types and these do not always have an associated socket
family. Therefore, we need a way to use L2TP sessions that doesn't
require a socket type for each supported frame type. Hence netlink is
used.

This patch adds a new L2TPIP socket family and modifies the core to

packets differ in layout, the datapath packet handling code needs
changes too. Userspace uses an L2TPIP socket instead of a UDP socket
when IP encapsulation is required.

This patch makes changes to the L2TP PPP code for L2TPv3.
The existing code has some assumptions about the L2TP header which are
broken by L2TPv3. Also the sockaddr_pppol2tp structure of the original
code is too small to support the increased size of the L2TPv3 tunnel
and session id, so a new sockaddr_pppol2tpv3 structure is needed. In
the socket calls, the size of this structure is used to tell if the
operation is for L2TPv2 or L2TPv3.

to prepare for L2TPv3 support. In L2TPv3, protocols other than PPP can
be carried, so this split creates a common L2TP core that will handle
the common L2TP bits which protocol support modules such as PPP will

Note that the existing pppol2tp module is split into l2tp_core and
