e42ac14180 bpf: Check unsupported ops from the bpf_struct_ops's cfi_stubs
The bpf_tcp_ca struct_ops currently uses a "u32 unsupported_ops[]"
array to track which ops is not supported.

After cfi_stubs had been added, the function pointer in cfi_stubs is
also NULL for the unsupported ops. Thus, the "u32 unsupported_ops[]"
becomes redundant. This observation was originally brought up in the
bpf/cfi discussion:
https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/CAADnVQJoEkdjyCEJRPASjBw1QGsKYrF33QdMGc1RZa9b88bAEA@mail.gmail.com/

The recent bpf qdisc patch (https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/20240714175130.4051012-6-amery.hung@bytedance.com/)
also needs to specify quite many unsupported ops. It is a good time
to clean it up.

This patch removes the need of "u32 unsupported_ops[]" and tests for null-ness
in the cfi_stubs instead.

Testing the cfi_stubs is done in a new function bpf_struct_ops_supported().
The verifier will call bpf_struct_ops_supported() when loading the
struct_ops program. The ".check_member" is removed from the bpf_tcp_ca
in this patch. ".check_member" could still be useful for other subsytems
to enforce other restrictions (e.g. sched_ext checks for prog->sleepable).

To keep the same error return, ENOTSUPP is used.

73287fe228 bpf: pass bpf_struct_ops_link to callbacks in bpf_struct_ops.
Pass an additional pointer of bpf_struct_ops_link to callback function reg,
unreg, and update provided by subsystems defined in bpf_struct_ops. A
bpf_struct_ops_map can be registered for multiple links. Passing a pointer
of bpf_struct_ops_link helps subsystems to distinguish them.

This pointer will be used in the later patches to let the subsystem
initiate a detachment on a link that was registered to it previously.

57bfc7605c tcp: Add new args for cong_control in tcp_congestion_ops
This patch adds two new arguments for cong_control of struct
tcp_congestion_ops:
 - ack
 - flag
These two arguments are inherited from the caller tcp_cong_control in
tcp_intput.c. One use case of them is to update cwnd and pacing rate
inside cong_control based on the info they provide. For example, the
flag can be used to decide if it is the right time to raise or reduce a

6f3189f38a bpf: treewide: Annotate BPF kfuncs in BTF
This commit marks kfuncs as such inside the .BTF_ids section. The upshot
of these annotations is that we'll be able to automatically generate
kfunc prototypes for downstream users. The process is as follows:

1. In source, use BTF_KFUNCS_START/END macro pair to mark kfuncs
2. During build, pahole injects into BTF a "bpf_kfunc" BTF_DECL_TAG for
   each function inside BTF_KFUNCS sets
3. At runtime, vmlinux or module BTF is made available in sysfs
4. At runtime, bpftool (or similar) can look at provided BTF and
   generate appropriate prototypes for functions with "bpf_kfunc" tag

To ensure future kfunc are similarly tagged, we now also return error
inside kfunc registration for untagged kfuncs. For vmlinux kfuncs,
we also WARN(), as initcall machinery does not handle errors.

68b04864ca bpf: Create links for BPF struct_ops maps.
Make bpf_link support struct_ops. Previously, struct_ops were always
used alone without any associated links. Upon updating its value, a
struct_ops would be activated automatically. Yet other BPF program
types required to make a bpf_link with their instances before they
could become active. Now, however, you can create an inactive
struct_ops, and create a link to activate it later.

With bpf_links, struct_ops has a behavior similar to other BPF program
types. You can pin/unpin them from their links and the struct_ops will
be deactivated when its link is removed while previously need someone
to delete the value for it to be deactivated.

bpf_links are responsible for registering their associated
struct_ops. You can only use a struct_ops that has the BPF_F_LINK flag
set to create a bpf_link, while a structs without this flag behaves in
the same manner as before and is registered upon updating its value.

The BPF_LINK_TYPE_STRUCT_OPS serves a dual purpose. Not only is it
used to craft the links for BPF struct_ops programs, but also to
create links for BPF struct_ops them-self. Since the links of BPF
struct_ops programs are only used to create trampolines internally,
they are never seen in other contexts. Thus, they can be reused for
struct_ops themself.

To maintain a reference to the map supporting this link, we add
bpf_struct_ops_link as an additional type. The pointer of the map is
RCU and won't be necessary until later in the patchset.

51a52a29eb bpf: Pass const struct bpf_prog * to .check_member
The .check_member field of struct bpf_struct_ops is currently passed the
member's btf_type via const struct btf_type *t, and a const struct
btf_member *member. This allows the struct_ops implementation to check
whether e.g. an ops is supported, but it would be useful to also enforce
that the struct_ops prog being loaded for that member has other
qualities, like being sleepable (or not). This patch therefore updates
the .check_member() callback to also take a const struct bpf_prog *prog

3f00c52393 bpf: Allow trusted pointers to be passed to KF_TRUSTED_ARGS kfuncs
Kfuncs currently support specifying the KF_TRUSTED_ARGS flag to signal
to the verifier that it should enforce that a BPF program passes it a
"safe", trusted pointer. Currently, "safe" means that the pointer is
either PTR_TO_CTX, or is refcounted. There may be cases, however, where
the kernel passes a BPF program a safe / trusted pointer to an object
that the BPF program wishes to use as a kptr, but because the object
does not yet have a ref_obj_id from the perspective of the verifier, the
program would be unable to pass it to a KF_ACQUIRE | KF_TRUSTED_ARGS
kfunc.

The solution is to expand the set of pointers that are considered
trusted according to KF_TRUSTED_ARGS, so that programs can invoke kfuncs
with these pointers without getting rejected by the verifier.

There is already a PTR_UNTRUSTED flag that is set in some scenarios,
such as when a BPF program reads a kptr directly from a map
without performing a bpf_kptr_xchg() call. These pointers of course can
and should be rejected by the verifier. Unfortunately, however,
PTR_UNTRUSTED does not cover all the cases for safety that need to
be addressed to adequately protect kfuncs. Specifically, pointers
obtained by a BPF program "walking" a struct are _not_ considered
PTR_UNTRUSTED according to BPF. For example, say that we were to add a
kfunc called bpf_task_acquire(), with KF_ACQUIRE | KF_TRUSTED_ARGS, to
acquire a struct task_struct *. If we only used PTR_UNTRUSTED to signal
that a task was unsafe to pass to a kfunc, the verifier would mistakenly
allow the following unsafe BPF program to be loaded:

SEC("tp_btf/task_newtask")
int BPF_PROG(unsafe_acquire_task,
             struct task_struct *task,
             u64 clone_flags)
{
        struct task_struct *acquired, *nested;

        nested = task->last_wakee;

        /* Would not be rejected by the verifier. */
        acquired = bpf_task_acquire(nested);
        if (!acquired)
                return 0;

        bpf_task_release(acquired);
        return 0;
}

To address this, this patch defines a new type flag called PTR_TRUSTED
which tracks whether a PTR_TO_BTF_ID pointer is safe to pass to a
KF_TRUSTED_ARGS kfunc or a BPF helper function. PTR_TRUSTED pointers are
passed directly from the kernel as a tracepoint or struct_ops callback
argument. Any nested pointer that is obtained from walking a PTR_TRUSTED
pointer is no longer PTR_TRUSTED. From the example above, the struct
task_struct *task argument is PTR_TRUSTED, but the 'nested' pointer
obtained from 'task->last_wakee' is not PTR_TRUSTED.

A subsequent patch will add kfuncs for storing a task kfunc as a kptr,
and then another patch will add selftests to validate.

c6f1bfe89a bpf: reject program if a __user tagged memory accessed in kernel way
BPF verifier supports direct memory access for BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACING type
of bpf programs, e.g., a->b. If "a" is a pointer
pointing to kernel memory, bpf verifier will allow user to write
code in C like a->b and the verifier will translate it to a kernel
load properly. If "a" is a pointer to user memory, it is expected
that bpf developer should be bpf_probe_read_user() helper to
get the value a->b. Without utilizing BTF __user tagging information,
current verifier will assume that a->b is a kernel memory access
and this may generate incorrect result.

Now BTF contains __user information, it can check whether the
pointer points to a user memory or not. If it is, the verifier
can reject the program and force users to use bpf_probe_read_user()
helper explicitly.

In the future, we can easily extend btf_add_space for other
address space tagging, for example, rcu/percpu etc.

0e32dfc80b bpf: Enable TCP congestion control kfunc from modules
This commit moves BTF ID lookup into the newly added registration
helper, in a way that the bbr, cubic, and dctcp implementation set up
their sets in the bpf_tcp_ca kfunc_btf_set list, while the ones not
dependent on modules are looked up from the wrapper function.

This lifts the restriction for them to be compiled as built in objects,
and can be loaded as modules if required. Also modify Makefile.modfinal
to call resolve_btfids for each module.

Note that since kernel kfunc_ids never overlap with module kfunc_ids, we
only match the owner for module btf id sets.

Kumar Kartikeya Dwivedi
2357672c54 bpf: Introduce BPF support for kernel module function calls
This change adds support on the kernel side to allow for BPF programs to
call kernel module functions. Userspace will prepare an array of module
BTF fds that is passed in during BPF_PROG_LOAD using fd_array parameter.
In the kernel, the module BTFs are placed in the auxilliary struct for
bpf_prog, and loaded as needed.

The verifier then uses insn->off to index into the fd_array. insn->off
0 is reserved for vmlinux BTF (for backwards compat), so userspace must
use an fd_array index > 0 for module kfunc support. kfunc_btf_tab is
sorted based on offset in an array, and each offset corresponds to one
descriptor, with a max limit up to 256 such module BTFs.

We also change existing kfunc_tab to distinguish each element based on
imm, off pair as each such call will now be distinct.

Another change is to check_kfunc_call callback, which now include a
struct module * pointer, this is to be used in later patch such that the
kfunc_id and module pointer are matched for dynamically registered BTF
sets from loadable modules, so that same kfunc_id in two modules doesn't
lead to check_kfunc_call succeeding. For the duration of the
check_kfunc_call, the reference to struct module exists, as it returns
the pointer stored in kfunc_btf_tab.

eb18b49ea7 bpf: tcp: Allow bpf-tcp-cc to call bpf_(get|set)sockopt
This patch allows the bpf-tcp-cc to call bpf_setsockopt. One use
case is to allow a bpf-tcp-cc switching to another cc during init().
For example, when the tcp flow is not ecn ready, the bpf_dctcp
can switch to another cc by calling setsockopt(TCP_CONGESTION).

During setsockopt(TCP_CONGESTION), the new tcp-cc's init() will be
called and this could cause a recursion but it is stopped by the
current trampoline's logic (in the prog->active counter).

While retiring a bpf-tcp-cc (e.g. in tcp_v[46]_destroy_sock()),
the tcp stack calls bpf-tcp-cc's release(). To avoid the retiring
bpf-tcp-cc making further changes to the sk, bpf_setsockopt is not
available to the bpf-tcp-cc's release(). This will avoid release()
making setsockopt() call that will potentially allocate new resources.

Although the bpf-tcp-cc already has a more powerful way to read tcp_sock
from the PTR_TO_BTF_ID, it is usually expected that bpf_getsockopt and
bpf_setsockopt are available together. Thus, bpf_getsockopt() is also
added to all tcp_congestion_ops except release().

When the old bpf-tcp-cc is calling setsockopt(TCP_CONGESTION)
to switch to a new cc, the old bpf-tcp-cc will be released by
bpf_struct_ops_put(). Thus, this patch also puts the bpf_struct_ops_map
after a rcu grace period because the trampoline's image cannot be freed
while the old bpf-tcp-cc is still running.

bpf-tcp-cc can only access icsk_ca_priv as SCALAR. All kernel's
tcp-cc is also accessing the icsk_ca_priv as SCALAR. The size
of icsk_ca_priv has already been raised a few times to avoid
extra kmalloc and memory referencing. The only exception is the
kernel's tcp_cdg.c that stores a kmalloc()-ed pointer in icsk_ca_priv.
To avoid the old bpf-tcp-cc accidentally overriding this tcp_cdg's pointer
value stored in icsk_ca_priv after switching and without over-complicating
the bpf's verifier for this one exception in tcp_cdg, this patch does not
allow switching to tcp_cdg. If there is a need, bpf_tcp_cdg can be
implemented and then use the bpf_sk_storage as the extended storage.

bpf_sk_setsockopt proto has only been recently added and used
in bpf-sockopt and bpf-iter-tcp, so impose the tcp_cdg limitation in the
same proto instead of adding a new proto specifically for bpf-tcp-cc.

569c484f99 bpf: Limit static tcp-cc functions in the .BTF_ids list to x86
During the discussion in [0]. It was pointed out that static functions
in ppc64 is prefixed with ".". For example, the 'readelf -s vmlinux.ppc':

  89326: c000000001383280    24 NOTYPE  LOCAL  DEFAULT   31 cubictcp_init
  89327: c000000000c97c50   168 FUNC    LOCAL  DEFAULT    2 .cubictcp_init

The one with FUNC type is ".cubictcp_init" instead of "cubictcp_init".
The "." seems to be done by arch/powerpc/include/asm/ppc_asm.h.

This caused that pahole cannot generate the BTF for these tcp-cc kernel
functions because pahole only captures the FUNC type and "cubictcp_init"
is not. It then failed the kernel compilation in ppc64.

This behavior is only reported in ppc64 so far. I tried arm64, s390,
and sparc64 and did not observe this "." prefix and NOTYPE behavior.

Since the kfunc call is only supported in the x86_64 and x86_32 JIT,
this patch limits those tcp-cc functions to x86 only to avoid unnecessary
compilation issue in other ARCHs. In the future, we can examine if it
is better to change all those functions from static to extern.

7aae231ac9 bpf: tcp: Limit calling some tcp cc functions to CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE
pahole currently only generates the btf_id for external function and
ftrace-able function. Some functions in the bpf_tcp_ca_kfunc_ids
are static (e.g. cubictcp_init).  Thus, unless CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE
is set, btf_ids for those functions will not be generated and the
compilation fails during resolve_btfids.

This patch limits those functions to CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE. I will
address the pahole generation in a followup and then remove the
CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE limitation.

e78aea8b21 bpf: tcp: Put some tcp cong functions in allowlist for bpf-tcp-cc
This patch puts some tcp cong helper functions, tcp_slow_start()
and tcp_cong_avoid_ai(), into the allowlist for the bpf-tcp-cc
program.

A few tcp cc implementation functions are also put into the
allowlist. A potential use case is the bpf-tcp-cc implementation
may only want to override a subset of a tcp_congestion_ops. For others,
the bpf-tcp-cc can directly call the kernel counter parts instead of
re-implementing (or copy-and-pasting) them to the bpf program.

They will only be available to the bpf-tcp-cc typed program.
The allowlist functions are not bounded to a fixed ABI contract.
When any of them has changed, the bpf-tcp-cc program has to be changed
like any in-tree/out-of-tree kernel tcp-cc implementations do also.

22dc4a0f5e bpf: Remove hard-coded btf_vmlinux assumption from BPF verifier
Remove a permeating assumption thoughout BPF verifier of vmlinux BTF. Instead,

module BTFs and using/tracking module types across BPF helper calls and

clash with using btf_id to denote BTF *type* ID, rather than BTF *object*'s ID.

Also, altough btf_vmlinux can't get destructed and thus doesn't need
refcounting, module BTFs need that, so apply BTF refcounting universally when
BPF program is using BTF-powered attachment (tp_btf, fentry/fexit, etc). This
makes for simpler clean up code.

Now that BTF type ID is not enough to uniquely identify a BTF type, extend BPF
trampoline key to include BTF object ID. To differentiate that from target
program BPF ID, set 31st bit of type ID. BTF type IDs (at least currently) are
not allowed to take full 32 bits, so there is no danger of confusing that bit
with a valid BTF type ID.

592a349864 bpf: Change bpf_sk_storage_*() to accept ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON
This patch changes the bpf_sk_storage_*() to take
ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON such that they will work with the pointer
returned by the bpf_skc_to_*() helpers also.

A micro benchmark has been done on a "cgroup_skb/egress" bpf program
which does a bpf_sk_storage_get(). It was driven by netperf doing
a 4096 connected UDP_STREAM test with 64bytes packet.
The stats from "kernel.bpf_stats_enabled" shows no meaningful difference.

The sk_storage_get_btf_proto, sk_storage_delete_btf_proto,
btf_sk_storage_get_proto, and btf_sk_storage_delete_proto are
no longer needed, so they are removed.

9436ef6e86 bpf: Allow specifying a BTF ID per argument in function protos
Function prototypes using ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID currently use two ways to signal
which BTF IDs are acceptable. First, bpf_func_proto.btf_id is an array of
IDs, one for each argument. This array is only accessed up to the highest
numbered argument that uses ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID and may therefore be less than
five arguments long. It usually points at a BTF_ID_LIST. Second, check_btf_id
is a function pointer that is called by the verifier if present. It gets the
actual BTF ID of the register, and the argument number we're currently checking.
It turns out that the only user check_arg_btf_id ignores the argument, and is
simply used to check whether the BTF ID has a struct sock_common at it's start.

Replace both of these mechanisms with an explicit BTF ID for each argument
in a function proto. Thanks to btf_struct_ids_match this is very flexible:
check_arg_btf_id can be replaced by requiring struct sock_common.

ab14fd4ee8 bpf: Add bpf_sk_storage support to bpf_tcp_ca
This patch adds bpf_sk_storage_get() and bpf_sk_storage_delete()
helper to the bpf_tcp_ca's struct_ops. That would allow
bpf-tcp-cc to:
1) share sk private data with other bpf progs.
2) use bpf_sk_storage as a private storage for a bpf-tcp-cc
   if the existing icsk_ca_priv is not big enough.

8e7ae2518f bpf: Sanitize the bpf_struct_ops tcp-cc name
The bpf_struct_ops tcp-cc name should be sanitized in order to
avoid problematic chars (e.g. whitespaces).

This patch reuses the bpf_obj_name_cpy() for accepting the same set
of characters in order to keep a consistent bpf programming experience.
A "size" param is added. Also, the strlen is returned on success so
that the caller (like the bpf_tcp_ca here) can error out on empty name.
The existing callers of the bpf_obj_name_cpy() only need to change the
testing statement to "if (err < 0)". For all these existing callers,
the err will be overwritten later, so no extra change is needed
for the new strlen return value.

v3:
  - reverse xmas tree style
v2:
  - Save the orig_src to avoid "end - size" (Andrii)

0baf26b0fc bpf: tcp: Support tcp_congestion_ops in bpf
This patch makes "struct tcp_congestion_ops" to be the first user
of BPF STRUCT_OPS. It allows implementing a tcp_congestion_ops
in bpf.

The BPF implemented tcp_congestion_ops can be used like
regular kernel tcp-cc through sysctl and setsockopt. e.g.
[root@arch-fb-vm1 bpf]# sysctl -a | egrep congestion
net.ipv4.tcp_allowed_congestion_control = reno cubic bpf_cubic
net.ipv4.tcp_available_congestion_control = reno bic cubic bpf_cubic
net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = bpf_cubic

There has been attempt to move the TCP CC to the user space
(e.g. CCP in TCP). The common arguments are faster turn around,
get away from long-tail kernel versions in production...etc,
which are legit points.

BPF has been the continuous effort to join both kernel and
userspace upsides together (e.g. XDP to gain the performance
advantage without bypassing the kernel). The recent BPF
advancements (in particular BTF-aware verifier, BPF trampoline,
BPF CO-RE...) made implementing kernel struct ops (e.g. tcp cc)
possible in BPF. It allows a faster turnaround for testing algorithm
in the production while leveraging the existing (and continue growing)
BPF feature/framework instead of building one specifically for
userspace TCP CC.

This patch allows write access to a few fields in tcp-sock
(in bpf_tcp_ca_btf_struct_access()).

The optional "get_info" is unsupported now. It can be added
later. One possible way is to output the info with a btf-id
to describe the content.
