Introduce support for virtio_transport_unsent_bytes
ioctl for virtio_transport, vhost_vsock and vsock_loopback.
For all transports the unsent bytes counter is incremented
in virtio_transport_get_credit.
In virtio_transport (G2H) and in vhost-vsock (H2G) the counter
is decremented when the skbuff is consumed. In vsock_loopback the
same skbuff is passed from the transmitter to the receiver, so
the counter is decremented before queuing the skbuff to the
receiver.

All callers of vhost_get_avail_idx() use smp_rmb() to
order the available ring entry read and avail_idx read.
Make vhost_get_avail_idx() call smp_rmb() itself whenever the avail_idx
is accessed. This way, the callers don't need to worry about the memory
barrier. As a side benefit, we also validate the index on all paths now,
which will hopefully help prevent/catch earlier future bugs.
Note that current code is inconsistent in how the errors are handled.
They are treated as an empty ring in some places, but as non-empty
ring in other places. This patch doesn't attempt to change the existing
behaviour.

1. seqpacket_allow is not initialized when socket is
created. Thus if features are never set, it will be
read uninitialized.
2. if VIRTIO_VSOCK_F_SEQPACKET is set and then cleared,
then seqpacket_allow will not be cleared appropriately
(existing apps I know about don't usually do this but
it's legal and there's no way to be sure no one relies
on this).
To fix:
- initialize seqpacket_allow after allocation
- set it unconditionally in set_features

Instead of lingering until the device is closed, this has us handle
SIGKILL by:
1. marking the worker as killed so we no longer try to use it with
new virtqueues and new flush operations.
2. setting the virtqueue to worker mapping so no new works are queued.
3. running all the exiting works.

In the next patches where the worker can be killed while in use, we
need to be able to take the worker mutex and kill queued works for
new IO and flushes, and set some new flags to prevent new
__vhost_vq_attach_worker calls from swapping in/out killed workers.
If we are holding the worker mutex during a flush and the flush's work
is still in the queue, the worker code that will handle the SIGKILL
cleanup won't be able to take the mutex and perform it's cleanup. So
this patch has us drop the worker mutex while waiting for the flush
to complete.

__vhost_vq_attach_worker uses the vhost_dev mutex to serialize the
swapping of a virtqueue's worker. This was done for simplicity because
we are already holding that mutex.
In the next patches where the worker can be killed while in use, we need
finer grained locking because some drivers will hold the vhost_dev mutex
while flushing. However in the SIGKILL handler in the next patches, we
will need to be able to swap workers (set current one to NULL), kill
queued works and stop new flushes while flushes are in progress.
To prepare us, this has us use the virtqueue mutex for swapping workers
instead of the vhost_dev one.

vhost_vq_work_queue will never fail when queueing the TMF's response
handling because a guest can only send us TMFs when the device is fully
setup so there is always a worker at that time. In the next patches we
will modify the worker code so it handles SIGKILL by exiting before
outstanding commands/TMFs have sent their responses. In that case
vhost_vq_work_queue can fail when we try to send a response.
This has us just free the TMF's resources since at this time the guest
won't be able to get a response even if we could send it.

We flush all the workers that are not also used by the ctl vq to make
sure that responses queued by LIO before the TMF response are sent
before the TMF response. This requires a special vhost_vq_flush
function which, in the next patches where we handle SIGKILL killing
workers while in use, will require extra locking/complexity. To avoid
that, this patch has us flush the entire device from the system work
queue, then queue up sending the response from there.
This is a little less optimal since we now flush all workers but this
will be ok since commands have already timed out and perf is not a
concern.

In the next patches we will support the vhost_task being killed while in
use. The problem for vhost-scsi is that we can't free some structs until
we get responses for commands we have submitted to the target layer and
we currently process the responses from the vhost_task.
This has just drop the responses and free the command's resources. When
all commands have completed then operations like flush will be woken up
and we can complete device release and endpoint cleanup.

Currently, we can try to queue an event's work before the vhost_task is
created. When this happens we just drop it in vhost_scsi_do_plug before
even calling vhost_vq_work_queue. During a device shutdown we do the
same thing after vhost_scsi_clear_endpoint has cleared the backends.
In the next patches we will be able to kill the vhost_task before we
have cleared the endpoint. In that case, vhost_vq_work_queue can fail
and we will leak the event's memory. This has handle the failure by
just freeing the event. This is safe to do, because
vhost_vq_work_queue will only return failure for us when the vhost_task
is killed and so userspace will not be able to handle events if we
sent them.

The page frag in vhost_net_page_frag_refill() uses the
'struct page_frag' from skb_page_frag_refill(), but it's
implementation is similar to page_frag_alloc_align() now.
This patch removes vhost_net_page_frag_refill() by using
'struct page_frag_cache' instead of 'struct page_frag',
and allocating frag using page_frag_alloc_align().
The added benefit is that not only unifying the page frag
implementation a little, but also having about 0.5% performance

Currently there seems to be three page frag implementations
which all try to allocate order 3 page, if that fails, it
then fail back to allocate order 0 page, and each of them
all allow order 3 page allocation to fail under certain
condition by using specific gfp bits.
The gfp bits for order 3 page allocation are different
between different implementation, __GFP_NOMEMALLOC is
or'd to forbid access to emergency reserves memory for
__page_frag_cache_refill(), but it is not or'd in other
implementions, __GFP_DIRECT_RECLAIM is masked off to avoid
direct reclaim in vhost_net_page_frag_refill(), but it is
not masked off in __page_frag_cache_refill().
This patch unifies the gfp bits used between different
implementions by or'ing __GFP_NOMEMALLOC and masking off
__GFP_DIRECT_RECLAIM for order 3 page allocation to avoid
possible pressure for mm.
Leave the gfp unifying for page frag implementation in sock.c
for now as suggested by Paolo Abeni.

Core & protocols
----------------
- Analyze and reorganize core networking structs (socks, netdev,
netns, mibs) to optimize cacheline consumption and set up
build time warnings to safeguard against future header changes.
This improves TCP performances with many concurrent connections
up to 40%.
- Add page-pool netlink-based introspection, exposing the
memory usage and recycling stats. This helps indentify
bad PP users and possible leaks.
- Refine TCP/DCCP source port selection to no longer favor even
source port at connect() time when IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE is set.
This lowers the time taken by connect() for hosts having
many active connections to the same destination.
- Refactor the TCP bind conflict code, shrinking related socket
structs.
- Refactor TCP SYN-Cookie handling, as a preparation step to
allow arbitrary SYN-Cookie processing via eBPF.
- Tune optmem_max for 0-copy usage, increasing the default value
to 128KB and namespecifying it.
- Allow coalescing for cloned skbs coming from page pools, improving
RX performances with some common configurations.
- Reduce extension header parsing overhead at GRO time.
- Add bridge MDB bulk deletion support, allowing user-space to
request the deletion of matching entries.
- Reorder nftables struct members, to keep data accessed by the
datapath first.
- Introduce TC block ports tracking and use. This allows supporting
multicast-like behavior at the TC layer.
- Remove UAPI support for retired TC qdiscs (dsmark, CBQ and ATM) and
classifiers (RSVP and tcindex).
- More data-race annotations.
- Extend the diag interface to dump TCP bound-only sockets.
- Conditional notification of events for TC qdisc class and actions.
- Support for WPAN dynamic associations with nearby devices, to form
a sub-network using a specific PAN ID.
- Implement SMCv2.1 virtual ISM device support.
- Add support for Batman-avd mulicast packet type.
BPF
---
- Tons of verifier improvements:
- BPF register bounds logic and range support along with a large
test suite
- log improvements
- complete precision tracking support for register spills
- track aligned STACK_ZERO cases as imprecise spilled registers. It
improves the verifier "instructions processed" metric from single
digit to 50-60% for some programs
- support for user's global BPF subprogram arguments with few
commonly requested annotations for a better developer experience
- support tracking of BPF_JNE which helps cases when the compiler
transforms (unsigned) "a > 0" into "if a == 0 goto xxx" and the
like
- several fixes
- Add initial TX metadata implementation for AF_XDP with support in
mlx5 and stmmac drivers. Two types of offloads are supported right
now, that is, TX timestamp and TX checksum offload.
- Fix kCFI bugs in BPF all forms of indirect calls from BPF into
kernel and from kernel into BPF work with CFI enabled. This allows
BPF to work with CONFIG_FINEIBT=y.
- Change BPF verifier logic to validate global subprograms lazily
instead of unconditionally before the main program, so they can be
guarded using BPF CO-RE techniques.
- Support uid/gid options when mounting bpffs.
- Add a new kfunc which acquires the associated cgroup of a task
within a specific cgroup v1 hierarchy where the latter is identified
by its id.
- Extend verifier to allow bpf_refcount_acquire() of a map value field
obtained via direct load which is a use-case needed in sched_ext.
- Add BPF link_info support for uprobe multi link along with bpftool
integration for the latter.
- Support for VLAN tag in XDP hints.
- Remove deprecated bpfilter kernel leftovers given the project
is developed in user-space (https://github.com/facebook/bpfilter).
Misc
----
- Support for parellel TC self-tests execution.
- Increase MPTCP self-tests coverage.
- Updated the bridge documentation, including several so-far
undocumented features.
- Convert all the net self-tests to run in unique netns, to
avoid random failures due to conflict and allow concurrent
runs.
- Add TCP-AO self-tests.
- Add kunit tests for both cfg80211 and mac80211.
- Autogenerate Netlink families documentation from YAML spec.
- Add yml-gen support for fixed headers and recursive nests, the
tool can now generate user-space code for all genetlink families
for which we have specs.
- A bunch of additional module descriptions fixes.
- Catch incorrect freeing of pages belonging to a page pool.
Driver API
----------
- Rust abstractions for network PHY drivers; do not cover yet the
full C API, but already allow implementing functional PHY drivers
in rust.
- Introduce queue and NAPI support in the netdev Netlink interface,
allowing complete access to the device <> NAPIs <> queues
relationship.
- Introduce notifications filtering for devlink to allow control
application scale to thousands of instances.
- Improve PHY validation, requesting rate matching information for
each ethtool link mode supported by both the PHY and host.
- Add support for ethtool symmetric-xor RSS hash.
- ACPI based Wifi band RFI (WBRF) mitigation feature for the AMD
platform.
- Expose pin fractional frequency offset value over new DPLL generic
netlink attribute.
- Convert older drivers to platform remove callback returning void.

The virtio standard doesn't allow for virtqueue address and state

The suspended device exception is needed because some devices support

Set vdpa device suspended state on successful suspend. Clear it on
successful resume and reset.
The state will be locked by the vhost_vdpa mutex. The mutex is taken
during suspend, resume and reset in vhost_vdpa_unlocked_ioctl. The
exception is vhost_vdpa_open which does a device reset but that should
be safe because it can only happen before the other ops.

Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains the usual miscellaneous features, cleanups, and fixes
for vfs and individual fses.
Features:
- Add Jan Kara as VFS reviewer
- Show correct device and inode numbers in proc/<pid>/maps for vma
files on stacked filesystems. This is now easily doable thanks to
the backing file work from the last cycles. This comes with
selftests
Cleanups:
- Remove a redundant might_sleep() from wait_on_inode()
- Initialize pointer with NULL, not 0
- Clarify comment on access_override_creds()
- Rework and simplify eventfd_signal() and eventfd_signal_mask()
helpers
- Process aio completions in batches to avoid needless wakeups
- Completely decouple struct mnt_idmap from namespaces. We now only
keep the actual idmapping around and don't stash references to
namespaces
- Reformat maintainer entries to indicate that a given subsystem
belongs to fs/
- Simplify fput() for files that were never opened
- Get rid of various pointless file helpers
- Rename various file helpers
- Rename struct file members after SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU switch from
last cycle
- Make relatime_need_update() return bool
- Use GFP_KERNEL instead of GFP_USER when allocating superblocks
- Replace deprecated ida_simple_*() calls with their current ida_*()
counterparts
Fixes:
- Fix comments on user namespace id mapping helpers. They aren't
kernel doc comments so they shouldn't be using /**
- s/Retuns/Returns/g in various places
- Add missing parameter documentation on can_move_mount_beneath()
- Rename i_mapping->private_data to i_mapping->i_private_data
- Fix a false-positive lockdep warning in pipe_write() for watch
queues
- Improve __fget_files_rcu() code generation to improve performance
- Only notify writer that pipe resizing has finished after setting
pipe->max_usage otherwise writers are never notified that the pipe
has been resized and hang
- Fix some kernel docs in hfsplus
- s/passs/pass/g in various places
- Fix kernel docs in ntfs

Send credit update message when SO_RCVLOWAT is updated and it is bigger
than number of bytes in rx queue. It is needed, because 'poll()' will
wait until number of bytes in rx queue will be not smaller than
O_RCVLOWAT, so kick sender to send more data. Otherwise mutual hungup
for tx/rx is possible: sender waits for free space and receiver is
waiting data in 'poll()'.
Rename 'set_rcvlowat' callback to 'notify_set_rcvlowat' and set
'sk->sk_rcvlowat' only in one place (i.e. 'vsock_set_rcvlowat'), so the
transport doesn't need to do it.

Using .compat_reset op from the previous patch, the buggy .reset
behaviour can be kept as-is on older userspace apps, which don't ack the
IOTLB_PERSIST backend feature. As this compatibility quirk is limited to
those drivers that used to be buggy in the past, it won't affect change
the behaviour or affect ABI on the setups with API compliant driver.
The separation of .compat_reset from the regular .reset allows
vhost-vdpa able to know which driver had broken behaviour before, so it
can apply the corresponding compatibility quirk to the individual driver
whenever needed. Compared to overloading the existing .reset with
flags, .compat_reset won't cause any extra burden to the implementation
of every compliant driver.

Userspace needs this feature flag to distinguish if vhost-vdpa iotlb in
the kernel can be trusted to persist IOTLB mapping across vDPA reset.
Without it, userspace has no way to tell apart if it's running on an
older kernel, which could silently drop all iotlb mapping across vDPA
reset, especially with broken parent driver implementation for the
.reset driver op. The broken driver may incorrectly drop all mappings of
its own as part of .reset, which inadvertently ends up with corrupted
mapping state between vhost-vdpa userspace and the kernel. As a
workaround, to make the mapping behaviour predictable across reset,
userspace has to pro-actively remove all mappings before vDPA reset, and
then restore all the mappings afterwards. This workaround is done
unconditionally on top of all parent drivers today, due to the parent
driver implementation issue and no means to differentiate. This
workaround had been utilized in QEMU since day one when the
corresponding vhost-vdpa userspace backend came to the world.
There are 3 cases that backend may claim this feature bit on for:
- parent device that has to work with platform IOMMU
- parent device with on-chip IOMMU that has the expected
.reset_map support in driver
- parent device with vendor specific IOMMU implementation with
persistent IOTLB mapping already that has to specifically
declare this backend feature
The reason why .reset_map is being one of the pre-condition for
persistent iotlb is because without it, vhost-vdpa can't switch back
iotlb to the initial state later on, especially for the on-chip IOMMU
case which starts with identity mapping at device creation. virtio-vdpa
requires on-chip IOMMU to perform 1:1 passthrough translation from PA to
IOVA as-is to begin with, and .reset_map is the only means to turn back
iotlb to the identity mapping mode after vhost-vdpa is gone.
The difference in behavior did not matter as QEMU unmaps all the memory
unregistering the memory listener at vhost_vdpa_dev_start( started =
false), but the backend acknowledging this feature flag allows QEMU to
make sure it is safe to skip this unmap & map in the case of vhost stop
& start cycle.
In that sense, this feature flag is actually a signal for userspace to
know that the driver bug has been solved. Not offering it indicates that
userspace cannot trust the kernel will retain the maps.

Devices with on-chip IOMMU or vendor specific IOTLB implementation may
need to restore iotlb mapping to the initial or default state using the
.reset_map op, as it's desirable for some parent devices to not work
with DMA ops and maintain a simple IOMMU model with .reset_map. In
particular, device reset should not cause mapping to go away on such
IOTLB model, so persistent mapping is implied across reset. Before the
userspace process using vhost-vdpa is gone, give it a chance to reset
iotlb back to the initial state in vhost_vdpa_cleanup().

Commit e2ae38cf3d ("vhost: fix hung thread due to erroneous iotlb
entries") Forbade vhost iotlb msg with null size to prevent entries
with size = start = 0 and last = ULONG_MAX to end up in the iotlb.
Then commit 95932ab2ea ("vhost: allow batching hint without size")
only applied the check for VHOST_IOTLB_UPDATE and VHOST_IOTLB_INVALIDATE
message types to fix a regression observed with batching hit.
Still, the introduction of that check introduced a regression for
some users attempting to invalidate the whole ULONG_MAX range by
setting the size to 0. This is the case with qemu/smmuv3/vhost
integration which does not work anymore. It Looks safe to partially
revert the original commit and allow VHOST_IOTLB_INVALIDATE messages
with null size. vhost_iotlb_del_range() will compute a correct end
iova. Same for vhost_vdpa_iotlb_unmap().

This allows userspace to request the fabric drivers do direct submissions
if they support it. With the new device file, submit_type, users can
write 0 - 2 to control how commands are submitted to the backend:
0 - TARGET_FABRIC_DEFAULT_SUBMIT - LIO will use the fabric's default
submission type. This is the default for compat.
1 - TARGET_DIRECT_SUBMIT - LIO will submit the cmd to the backend from the
calling context if the fabric the cmd was received on supports it,
else it will use the fabric's default type.
2 - TARGET_QUEUE_SUBMIT - LIO will queue the cmd to the LIO submission
workqueue which will pass it to the backend.
When using an NVMe drive and vhost-scsi with direct submission we see
around a 20% improvement in 4K I/Os:
fio jobs 1 2 4 8 10
--------------------------------------------------
defer 94K 190K 394K 770K 890K
direct 128K 252K 488K 950K -
And when using the queueing mode, we now no longer see issues like where
the iSCSI tx thread is blocked in the block layer waiting on a tag so it
can't respond to a nop or perform I/Os for other LUs.

In some cases, like with multiple LUN targets or where the target has to
respond to transport level requests from the receiving context it can be
better to defer cmd submission to a helper thread. If the backend driver
blocks on something like request/tag allocation it can block the entire
target submission path and other LUs and transport IO on that session.
In other cases like single LUN targets with storage that can support all
the commands that the target can queue, then it's best to submit the cmd
to the backend from the target's cmd receiving context.
Subsequent commits will allow the user to config what they prefer, but
drivers like loop can't directly submit because they can be called from a
context that can't sleep. And, drivers like vhost-scsi can support direct
submission, but need to keep their default behavior of deferring execution
to avoid possible regressions where the backend can block.
Make the drivers tell LIO core if they support direct submissions and their
current default, so we can prevent users from misconfiguring the system and
initialize devices correctly.
