mm: only enforce minimum stack gap size if it's sensible
The generic mmap_base code tries to leave a gap between the top of the
stack and the mmap base address, but enforces a minimum gap size (MIN_GAP)
of 128MB, which is too large on some setups. In particular, on arm tasks
without ADDR_LIMIT_32BIT, the STACK_TOP value is less than 128MB, so it's
impossible to fit such a gap in.
Only enforce this minimum if MIN_GAP < MAX_GAP, as we'd prefer to honour
MAX_GAP, which is defined proportionally, so scales better and always
leaves us with both _some_ stack space and some room for mmap.
This fixes the usercopy KUnit test suite on 32-bit arm, as it doesn't set
any personality flags so gets the default (in this case 26-bit) task size.
This test can be run with: ./tools/testing/kunit/kunit.py run --arch arm
usercopy --make_options LLVM=1

mm: kvmalloc: align kvrealloc() with krealloc()
Besides the obvious (and desired) difference between krealloc() and kvrealloc(), there is some inconsistency in their function signatures and behavior: - krealloc() frees the memory when the requested size is zero, whereas kvrealloc() simply returns a pointer to the existing allocation. - krealloc() behaves like kmalloc() if a NULL pointer is passed, whereas kvrealloc() does not accept a NULL pointer at all and, if passed, would fault instead. - krealloc() is self-contained, whereas kvrealloc() relies on the caller to provide the size of the previous allocation. Inconsistent behavior throughout allocation APIs is error prone, hence make kvrealloc() behave like krealloc(), which seems superior in all mentioned aspects. Besides that, implementing kvrealloc() by making use of krealloc() and vrealloc() provides oppertunities to grow (and shrink) allocations more efficiently. For instance, vrealloc() can be optimized to allocate and map additional pages to grow the allocation or unmap and free unused pages to shrink the allocation. sysctl: treewide: constify the ctl_table argument of proc_handlers
const qualify the struct ctl_table argument in the proc_handler function signatures. This is a prerequisite to moving the static ctl_table structs into .rodata data which will ensure that proc_handler function pointers cannot be modified. This patch has been generated by the following coccinelle script: ``` virtual patch @r1@ identifier ctl, write, buffer, lenp, ppos; identifier func !~ "appldata_(timer|interval)_handler|sched_(rt|rr)_handler|rds_tcp_skbuf_handler|proc_sctp_do_(hmac_alg|rto_min|rto_max|udp_port|alpha_beta|auth|probe_interval)"; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table *ctl + const struct ctl_table *ctl ,int write, void *buffer, size_t *lenp, loff_t *ppos); @r2@ identifier func, ctl, write, buffer, lenp, ppos; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table *ctl + const struct ctl_table *ctl ,int write, void *buffer, size_t *lenp, loff_t *ppos) { ... } @r3@ identifier func; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table * + const struct ctl_table * ,int , void *, size_t *, loff_t *); @r4@ identifier func, ctl; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table *ctl + const struct ctl_table *ctl ,int , void *, size_t *, loff_t *); @r5@ identifier func, write, buffer, lenp, ppos; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table * + const struct ctl_table * ,int write, void *buffer, size_t *lenp, loff_t *ppos); ``` * Code formatting was adjusted in xfs_sysctl.c to comply with code conventions. The xfs_stats_clear_proc_handler, xfs_panic_mask_proc_handler and xfs_deprecated_dointvec_minmax where adjusted. * The ctl_table argument in proc_watchdog_common was const qualified. This is called from a proc_handler itself and is calling back into another proc_handler, making it necessary to change it as part of the proc_handler migration. - 875fa64577da ("mm/hugetlb_vmemmap: fix race with speculative PFN
walkers") is known to cause a performance regression (https://lore.kernel.org/all/3acefad9-96e5-4681-8014-827d6be71c7a@linux.ibm.com/T/#mfa809800a7862fb5bdf834c6f71a3a5113eb83ff). Yu has a fix which I'll send along later via the hotfixes branch. - In the series "mm: Avoid possible overflows in dirty throttling" Jan Kara addresses a couple of issues in the writeback throttling code. These fixes are also targetted at -stable kernels. - Ryusuke Konishi's series "nilfs2: fix potential issues related to reserved inodes" does that. This should actually be in the mm-nonmm-stable tree, along with the many other nilfs2 patches. My bad. - More folio conversions from Kefeng Wang in the series "mm: convert to folio_alloc_mpol()" - Kemeng Shi has sent some cleanups to the writeback code in the series "Add helper functions to remove repeated code and improve readability of cgroup writeback" - Kairui Song has made the swap code a little smaller and a little faster in the series "mm/swap: clean up and optimize swap cache index". - In the series "mm/memory: cleanly support zeropage in vm_insert_page*(), vm_map_pages*() and vmf_insert_mixed()" David Hildenbrand has reworked the rather sketchy handling of the use of the zeropage in MAP_SHARED mappings. I don't see any runtime effects here - more a cleanup/understandability/maintainablity thing. - Dev Jain has improved selftests/mm/va_high_addr_switch.c's handling of higher addresses, for aarch64. The (poorly named) series is "Restructure va_high_addr_switch". - The core TLB handling code gets some cleanups and possible slight optimizations in Bang Li's series "Add update_mmu_tlb_range() to simplify code". - Jane Chu has improved the handling of our fake-an-unrecoverable-memory-error testing feature MADV_HWPOISON in the series "Enhance soft hwpoison handling and injection". - Jeff Johnson has sent a billion patches everywhere to add MODULE_DESCRIPTION() to everything. Some landed in this pull. - In the series "mm: cleanup MIGRATE_SYNC_NO_COPY mode", Kefeng Wang has simplified migration's use of hardware-offload memory copying. - Yosry Ahmed performs more folio API conversions in his series "mm: zswap: trivial folio conversions". - In the series "large folios swap-in: handle refault cases first", Chuanhua Han inches us forward in the handling of large pages in the swap code. This is a cleanup and optimization, working toward the end objective of full support of large folio swapin/out. - In the series "mm,swap: cleanup VMA based swap readahead window calculation", Huang Ying has contributed some cleanups and a possible fixlet to his VMA based swap readahead code. - In the series "add mTHP support for anonymous shmem" Baolin Wang has taught anonymous shmem mappings to use multisize THP. By default this is a no-op - users must opt in vis sysfs controls. Dramatic improvements in pagefault latency are realized. - David Hildenbrand has some cleanups to our remaining use of page_mapcount() in the series "fs/proc: move page_mapcount() to fs/proc/internal.h". - David also has some highmem accounting cleanups in the series "mm/highmem: don't track highmem pages manually". - Build-time fixes and cleanups from John Hubbard in the series "cleanups, fixes, and progress towards avoiding "make headers"". - Cleanups and consolidation of the core pagemap handling from Barry Song in the series "mm: introduce pmd|pte_needs_soft_dirty_wp helpers and utilize them". - Lance Yang's series "Reclaim lazyfree THP without splitting" has reduced the latency of the reclaim of pmd-mapped THPs under fairly common circumstances. A 10x speedup is seen in a microbenchmark. It does this by punting to aother CPU but I guess that's a win unless all CPUs are pegged. - hugetlb_cgroup cleanups from Xiu Jianfeng in the series "mm/hugetlb_cgroup: rework on cftypes". - Miaohe Lin's series "Some cleanups for memory-failure" does just that thing. - Is anyone reading this stuff? If so, email me! - Someone other than SeongJae has developed a DAMON feature in Honggyu Kim's series "DAMON based tiered memory management for CXL memory". This adds DAMON features which may be used to help determine the efficiency of our placement of CXL/PCIe attached DRAM. - DAMON user API centralization and simplificatio work in SeongJae Park's series "mm/damon: introduce DAMON parameters online commit function". - In the series "mm: page_type, zsmalloc and page_mapcount_reset()" David Hildenbrand does some maintenance work on zsmalloc - partially modernizing its use of pageframe fields. - Kefeng Wang provides more folio conversions in the series "mm: remove page_maybe_dma_pinned() and page_mkclean()". - More cleanup from David Hildenbrand, this time in the series "mm/memory_hotplug: use PageOffline() instead of PageReserved() for !ZONE_DEVICE". It "enlightens memory hotplug more about PageOffline() pages" and permits the removal of some virtio-mem hacks. - Barry Song's series "mm: clarify folio_add_new_anon_rmap() and __folio_add_anon_rmap()" is a cleanup to the anon folio handling in preparation for mTHP (multisize THP) swapin. - Kefeng Wang's series "mm: improve clear and copy user folio" implements more folio conversions, this time in the area of large folio userspace copying. - The series "Docs/mm/damon/maintaier-profile: document a mailing tool and community meetup series" tells people how to get better involved with other DAMON developers. From SeongJae Park. - A large series ("kmsan: Enable on s390") from Ilya Leoshkevich does that. - David Hildenbrand sends along more cleanups, this time against the migration code. The series is marked cc:stable. - Chengming Zhou's series "mm/ksm: cmp_and_merge_page() optimizations and cleanup" cleans up and slightly optimizes KSM. - Roman Gushchin has separated the memcg-v1 and memcg-v2 code - lots of code motion. The series (which also makes the memcg-v1 code Kconfigurable) are "mm: memcg: separate legacy cgroup v1 code and put under config option" and "mm: memcg: put cgroup v1-specific memcg data under CONFIG_MEMCG_V1" - Dan Schatzberg's series "Add swappiness argument to memory.reclaim" adds an additional feature to this cgroup-v2 control file. - The series "Userspace controls soft-offline pages" from Jiaqi Yan permits userspace to stop the kernel's automatic treatment of excessive correctable memory errors. In order to permit userspace to monitor and handle this situation. - Kefeng Wang's series "mm: migrate: support poison recover from migrate folio" teaches the kernel to appropriately handle migration from poisoned source folios rather than simply panicing. - SeongJae Park's series "Docs/damon: minor fixups and improvements" does those things. - In the series "mm/zsmalloc: change back to per-size_class lock" Chengming Zhou improves zsmalloc's scalability and memory utilization. - Vivek Kasireddy's series "mm/gup: Introduce memfd_pin_folios() for pinning memfd folios" makes the GUP code use FOLL_PIN rather than bare refcount increments. The first converted users are alloc_msg() and memdup_user(). The hardening is enabled by CONFIG_SLAB_BUCKETS. - Extended kmalloc() alignment guarantees (Vlastimil Babka) For years now we have guaranteed natural alignment for power-of-two allocations, but nothing was defined for other sizes (in practice, we have two such buckets, kmalloc-96 and kmalloc-192). mm/util: Use dedicated slab buckets for memdup_user()
Both memdup_user() and vmemdup_user() handle allocations that are regularly used for exploiting use-after-free type confusion flaws in the kernel (e.g. prctl() PR_SET_VMA_ANON_NAME[1] and setxattr[2][3][4] respectively). Since both are designed for contents coming from userspace, it allows for userspace-controlled allocation sizes. Use a dedicated set of kmalloc buckets so these allocations do not share caches with the global kmalloc buckets. After a fresh boot under Ubuntu 23.10, we can see the caches are already in active use: # grep ^memdup /proc/slabinfo memdup_user-8k 4 4 8192 4 8 : ... memdup_user-4k 8 8 4096 8 8 : ... memdup_user-2k 16 16 2048 16 8 : ... memdup_user-1k 0 0 1024 16 4 : ... memdup_user-512 0 0 512 16 2 : ... memdup_user-256 0 0 256 16 1 : ... memdup_user-128 0 0 128 32 1 : ... memdup_user-64 256 256 64 64 1 : ... memdup_user-32 512 512 32 128 1 : ... memdup_user-16 1024 1024 16 256 1 : ... memdup_user-8 2048 2048 8 512 1 : ... memdup_user-192 0 0 192 21 1 : ... memdup_user-96 168 168 96 42 1 : ... kunit: test: Add vm_mmap() allocation resource manager
For tests that need to allocate using vm_mmap() (e.g. usercopy and execve), provide the interface to have the allocation tracked by KUnit itself. This requires bringing up a placeholder userspace mm. This combines my earlier attempt at this with Mark Rutland's version[1]. Normally alloc_mm() and arch_pick_mmap_layout() aren't exported for modules, so export these only for KUnit testing. mm: fix xyz_noprof functions calling profiled functions
Grepping /proc/allocinfo for "noprof" reveals several xyz_noprof functions, which means internally they are calling profiled functions. This should never happen as such calls move allocation charge from a higher level location where it should be accounted for into these lower level helpers. Fix this by replacing profiled function calls with noprof ones. Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20240531205350.3973009-1-surenb@google.com Fixes: |

mm: switch mm->get_unmapped_area() to a flag
The mm_struct contains a function pointer *get_unmapped_area(), which is set to either arch_get_unmapped_area() or arch_get_unmapped_area_topdown() during the initialization of the mm. Since the function pointer only ever points to two functions that are named the same across all arch's, a function pointer is not really required. In addition future changes will want to add versions of the functions that take additional arguments. So to save a pointers worth of bytes in mm_struct, and prevent adding additional function pointers to mm_struct in future changes, remove it and keep the information about which get_unmapped_area() to use in a flag. Add the new flag to MMF_INIT_MASK so it doesn't get clobbered on fork by mmf_init_flags(). Most MM flags get clobbered on fork. In the pre-existing behavior mm->get_unmapped_area() would get copied to the new mm in dup_mm(), so not clobbering the flag preserves the existing behavior around inheriting the topdown-ness. Introduce a helper, mm_get_unmapped_area(), to easily convert code that refers to the old function pointer to instead select and call either arch_get_unmapped_area() or arch_get_unmapped_area_topdown() based on the flag. Then drop the mm->get_unmapped_area() function pointer. Leave the get_unmapped_area() pointer in struct file_operations alone. The main purpose of this change is to reorganize in preparation for future changes, but it also converts the calls of mm->get_unmapped_area() from indirect branches into a direct ones. The stress-ng bigheap benchmark calls realloc a lot, which calls through get_unmapped_area() in the kernel. On x86, the change yielded a ~1% improvement there on a retpoline config. In testing a few x86 configs, removing the pointer unfortunately didn't result in any actual size reductions in the compiled layout of mm_struct. But depending on compiler or arch alignment requirements, the change could shrink the size of mm_struct. Amongst other things, this opens up the use of third-party tools to parse and process out selftesting results. - Ryan Roberts has added fork()-time PTE batching of THP ptes in the series "mm/memory: optimize fork() with PTE-mapped THP". Mainly targeted at arm64, this significantly speeds up fork() when the process has a large number of pte-mapped folios. - David Hildenbrand also gets in on the THP pte batching game in his series "mm/memory: optimize unmap/zap with PTE-mapped THP". It implements batching during munmap() and other pte teardown situations. The microbenchmark improvements are nice. - And in the series "Transparent Contiguous PTEs for User Mappings" Ryan Roberts further utilizes arm's pte's contiguous bit ("contpte mappings"). Kernel build times on arm64 improved nicely. Ryan's series "Address some contpte nits" provides some followup work. - In the series "mm/hugetlb: Restore the reservation" Breno Leitao has fixed an obscure hugetlb race which was causing unnecessary page faults. He has also added a reproducer under the selftest code. - In the series "selftests/mm: Output cleanups for the compaction test", Mark Brown did what the title claims. - Kinsey Ho has added the series "mm/mglru: code cleanup and refactoring". - Even more zswap material from Nhat Pham. The series "fix and extend zswap kselftests" does as claimed. - In the series "Introduce cpu_dcache_is_aliasing() to fix DAX regression" Mathieu Desnoyers has cleaned up and fixed rather a mess in our handling of DAX on archiecctures which have virtually aliasing data caches. The arm architecture is the main beneficiary. - Lokesh Gidra's series "per-vma locks in userfaultfd" provides dramatic improvements in worst-case mmap_lock hold times during certain userfaultfd operations. - Some page_owner enhancements and maintenance work from Oscar Salvador in his series "page_owner: print stacks and their outstanding allocations" "page_owner: Fixup and cleanup" - Uladzislau Rezki has contributed some vmalloc scalability improvements in his series "Mitigate a vmap lock contention". This a step along the path to implementaton of the merging of large anonymous folios. The series is named "Enable >0 order folio memory compaction". - Christoph Hellwig has done quite a lot of cleanup work in the pagecache writeback code in his series "convert write_cache_pages() to an iterator". - Some modest hugetlb cleanups and speedups in Vishal Moola's series "Handle hugetlb faults under the VMA lock". - Zi Yan has changed the page splitting code so we can split huge pages into sizes other than order-0 to better utilize large folios. The series is named "Split a folio to any lower order folios". - David Hildenbrand has contributed the series "mm: remove total_mapcount()", a cleanup. - Matthew Wilcox has sought to improve the performance of bulk memory freeing in his series "Rearrange batched folio freeing". - Gang Li's series "hugetlb: parallelize hugetlb page init on boot" provides large improvements in bootup times on large machines which are configured to use large numbers of hugetlb pages. - Matthew Wilcox's series "PageFlags cleanups" does that. - Qi Zheng's series "minor fixes and supplement for ptdesc" does that also. S390 is affected. - Cleanups to our pagemap utility functions from Peter Xu in his series "mm/treewide: Replace pXd_large() with pXd_leaf()". - Nico Pache has fixed a few things with our hugepage selftests in his series "selftests/mm: Improve Hugepage Test Handling in MM Selftests". - Also, of course, many singleton patches to many things. Measured improvements are modest. - zswap cleanups and simplifications from Yosry Ahmed in the series "mm: zswap: simplify zswap_swapoff()". - In the series "Add DAX ABI for memmap_on_memory", Vishal Verma has contributed several DAX cleanups as well as adding a sysfs tunable to control the memmap_on_memory setting when the dax device is hotplugged as system memory. - Johannes Weiner has added the large series "mm: zswap: cleanups", which does that. - More DAMON work from SeongJae Park in the series "mm/damon: make DAMON debugfs interface deprecation unignorable" "selftests/damon: add more tests for core functionalities and corner cases" "Docs/mm/damon: misc readability improvements" "mm/damon: let DAMOS feeds and tame/auto-tune itself" - In the series "mm/mempolicy: weighted interleave mempolicy and sysfs extension" Rakie Kim has developed a new mempolicy interleaving policy wherein we allocate memory across nodes in a weighted fashion rather than uniformly. This is beneficial in heterogeneous memory environments appearing with CXL. - Christophe Leroy has contributed some cleanup and consolidation work against the ARM pagetable dumping code in the series "mm: ptdump: Refactor CONFIG_DEBUG_WX and check_wx_pages debugfs attribute". - Luis Chamberlain has added some additional xarray selftesting in the series "test_xarray: advanced API multi-index tests". - Muhammad Usama Anjum has reworked the selftest code to make its human-readable output conform to the TAP ("Test Anything Protocol") format. It realizes a 12x improvement for a certain microbenchmark. - Some kexec/crash cleanup work from Baoquan He in the series "Split crash out from kexec and clean up related config items". - Some zsmalloc maintenance work from Chengming Zhou in the series "mm/zsmalloc: fix and optimize objects/page migration" "mm/zsmalloc: some cleanup for get/set_zspage_mapping()" - Zi Yan has taught the MM to perform compaction on folios larger than order=0. - Also, of course, many singleton patches to many things. mm/util: use kmap_local_page() in memcmp_pages()
kmap_atomic() has been deprecated in favor of kmap_local_page(). Therefore, replace kmap_atomic() with kmap_local_page() in memcmp_pages(). kmap_atomic() is implemented like a kmap_local_page() which also disables page-faults and preemption (the latter only in !PREEMPT_RT kernels). The kernel virtual addresses returned by these two API are only valid in the context of the callers (i.e., they cannot be handed to other threads). With kmap_local_page() the mappings are per thread and CPU local like in kmap_atomic(); however, they can handle page-faults and can be called from any context (including interrupts). The tasks that call kmap_local_page() can be preempted and, when they are scheduled to run again, the kernel virtual addresses are restored and are still valid. In memcmp_pages(), the block of code between the mapping and un-mapping does not depend on the above-mentioned side effects of kmap_aatomic(), so that mere replacements of the old API with the new one is all that is required (i.e., there is no need to explicitly call pagefault_disable() and/or preempt_disable()). mm: Remove kmem_valid_obj()
Function kmem_dump_obj() will splat if passed a pointer to a non-slab object. So nothing calls it directly, instead calling kmem_valid_obj() first to determine whether the passed pointer to a valid slab object. This means that merging kmem_valid_obj() into kmem_dump_obj() will make the code more concise. Therefore, convert kmem_dump_obj() to work the same way as vmalloc_dump_obj(), removing the need for the kmem_dump_obj() caller to check kmem_valid_obj(). After this, there are no remaining calls to kmem_valid_obj() anymore, and it can be safely removed. rcu: dump vmalloc memory info safely
Currently, for double invoke call_rcu(), will dump rcu_head objects memory
info, if the objects is not allocated from the slab allocator, the
vmalloc_dump_obj() will be invoke and the vmap_area_lock spinlock need to
be held, since the call_rcu() can be invoked in interrupt context,
therefore, there is a possibility of spinlock deadlock scenarios.

CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack part of this feature, and just for userspace. The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction, the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy. parisc: Use generic mmap top-down layout and brk randomization
parisc uses a top-down layout by default that exactly fits the generic functions, so get rid of arch specific code and use the generic version by selecting ARCH_WANT_DEFAULT_TOPDOWN_MMAP_LAYOUT. Note that on parisc the stack always grows up and a "unlimited stack" simply means that the value as defined in CONFIG_STACK_MAX_DEFAULT_SIZE_MB should be used. So RLIM_INFINITY is not an indicator to use the legacy memory layout. Signed-off-by: Helge Deller <deller@gmx.de> |

mm,thp, rmap: simplify compound page mapcount handling
Compound page (folio) mapcount calculations have been different for anon and file (or shmem) THPs, and involved the obscure PageDoubleMap flag. And each huge mapping and unmapping of a file (or shmem) THP involved atomically incrementing and decrementing the mapcount of every subpage of that huge page, dirtying many struct page cachelines. Add subpages_mapcount field to the struct folio and first tail page, so that the total of subpage mapcounts is available in one place near the head: then page_mapcount() and total_mapcount() and page_mapped(), and their folio equivalents, are so quick that anon and file and hugetlb don't need to be optimized differently. Delete the unloved PageDoubleMap. page_add and page_remove rmap functions must now maintain the subpages_mapcount as well as the subpage _mapcount, when dealing with pte mappings of huge pages; and correct maintenance of NR_ANON_MAPPED and NR_FILE_MAPPED statistics still needs reading through the subpages, using nr_subpages_unmapped() - but only when first or last pmd mapping finds subpages_mapcount raised (double-map case, not the common case). But are those counts (used to decide when to split an anon THP, and in vmscan's pagecache_reclaimable heuristic) correctly maintained? Not quite: since page_remove_rmap() (and also split_huge_pmd()) is often called without page lock, there can be races when a subpage pte mapcount 0<->1 while compound pmd mapcount 0<->1 is scanning - races which the previous implementation had prevented. The statistics might become inaccurate, and even drift down until they underflow through 0. That is not good enough, but is better dealt with in a followup patch. Update a few comments on first and second tail page overlaid fields. hugepage_add_new_anon_rmap() has to "increment" compound_mapcount, but subpages_mapcount and compound_pincount are already correctly at 0, so delete its reinitialization of compound_pincount. A simple 100 X munmap(mmap(2GB, MAP_SHARED|MAP_POPULATE, tmpfs), 2GB) took 18 seconds on small pages, and used to take 1 second on huge pages, but now takes 119 milliseconds on huge pages. Mapping by pmds a second time used to take 860ms and now takes 92ms; mapping by pmds after mapping by ptes (when the scan is needed) used to take 870ms and now takes 495ms. But there might be some benchmarks which would show a slowdown, because tail struct pages now fall out of cache until final freeing checks them. mm: fix BUG splat with kvmalloc + GFP_ATOMIC
Martin Zaharinov reports BUG with 5.19.10 kernel:
kernel BUG at mm/vmalloc.c:2437!
invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] SMP
CPU: 28 PID: 0 Comm: swapper/28 Tainted: G W O 5.19.9 #1

bucket_table_alloc uses kvzalloc(GPF_ATOMIC). If kmalloc fails, this now
falls through to vmalloc and hits code paths that assume GFP_KERNEL.

mm: remove the vma linked list
Replace any vm_next use with vma_find(). Update free_pgtables(), unmap_vmas(), and zap_page_range() to use the maple tree. Use the new free_pgtables() and unmap_vmas() in do_mas_align_munmap(). At the same time, alter the loop to be more compact. Now that free_pgtables() and unmap_vmas() take a maple tree as an argument, rearrange do_mas_align_munmap() to use the new tree to hold the vmas to remove. Remove __vma_link_list() and __vma_unlink_list() as they are exclusively used to update the linked list. Drop linked list update from __insert_vm_struct(). Rework validation of tree as it was depending on the linked list. mm/util.c: add warning if __vm_enough_memory fails
If a process has not enough memory to allocate a new virtual mapping, we may meet verious kinds of error, eg, fork cannot allocate memory, SIGBUS error in shmem, but it is difficult to confirm them, let's add some debug information to easily to check this scenario if __vm_enough_memory fails. Munchun Song adds a /proc knob ("hugetlb_optimize_vmemmap") for runtime enablement of the recent huge page vmemmap optimization feature. Baolin Wang contributes a series to fix some issues around hugetlb pagetable invalidation. Zhenwei Pi has fixed some interactions between hwpoisoned pages and virtualization. Tong Tiangen has enabled the use of the presently x86-only page_table_check debugging feature on arm64 and riscv. David Vernet has done some fixup work on the memcg selftests. More DAMON development from SeongJae Park - adding online tuning of the feature and support for monitoring of fixed virtual address ranges. Also easier discovery of which monitoring operations are available. Nadav Amit has done some optimization of TLB flushing during mprotect(). Neil Brown continues to labor away at improving our swap-over-NFS support. David Hildenbrand has some fixes to anon page COWing versus get_user_pages(). Peng Liu fixed some errors in the core hugetlb code. Joao Martins has reduced the amount of memory consumed by device-dax's compound devmaps. random: move randomize_page() into mm where it belongs
randomize_page is an mm function. It is documented like one. It contains the history of one. It has the naming convention of one. It looks just like another very similar function in mm, randomize_stack_top(). And it has always been maintained and updated by mm people. There is no need for it to be in random.c. In the "which shape does not look like the other ones" test, pointing to randomize_page() is correct. So move randomize_page() into mm/util.c, right next to the similar randomize_stack_top() function. This commit contains no actual code changes.
