381bf7cad9 fuse: mark variables uninitialized
gcc 4.6.3 complains about uninitialized variables in fs/fuse/control.c:

  CC fs/fuse/control.o
fs/fuse/control.c: In function 'fuse_conn_congestion_threshold_write':
fs/fuse/control.c:165:29: warning: 'val' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wuninitialized]
fs/fuse/control.c: In function 'fuse_conn_max_background_write':
fs/fuse/control.c:128:23: warning: 'val' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wuninitialized]

fuse_conn_limit_write() will always return non-zero unless the &val
is modified, so the warning is misleading. Let the compiler know
about it by marking 'val' with 'uninitialized_var'.

e2690695ce fuse: Convert to kstrtoul_from_user
This patch replaces the code for getting an number from a
userspace buffer by a simple call to kstroul_from_user.
This makes it easier to read and less error prone.

85fe4025c6 fs: do not assign default i_ino in new_inode
Instead of always assigning an increasing inode number in new_inode
move the call to assign it into those callers that actually need it.
For now callers that need it is estimated conservatively, that is
the call is added to all filesystems that do not assign an i_ino
by themselves. For a few more filesystems we can avoid assigning
any inode number given that they aren't user visible, and for others
it could be done lazily when an inode number is actually needed,
but that's left for later patches.

6038f373a3 llseek: automatically add .llseek fop
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make
nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a
.llseek pointer.

The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek
and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that
the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains
the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek.

New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek
and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted
to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code
relies on calling seek on the device file.

The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains
comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was
chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will
be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not
seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle.

Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get
the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window.

Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic
patch that does all this.

d6db07ded5 fuse: use drop_nlink() instead of direct nlink manipulation
drop_nlink() is the API function to decrease the link count of an inode.
However, at a place the control filesystem used the decrement operator
on i_nlink directly. Fix this.

b6f2fcbcfc mm: bdi: expose the BDI object in sysfs for FUSE
Register FUSE's backing_dev_info under sysfs with the name "fuse-MAJOR:MINOR"

Make the fuse control filesystem use s_dev instead of a fuse specific ID.
This makes it easier to match directories under /sys/fs/fuse/connections/ with
directories under /sys/class/bdi, and with actual mounts.

754661f143 [PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 1
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const
moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential
dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to
these shared resources.

ff79544754 [PATCH] fuse: fix bug in control filesystem mount
The BUG in fuse_ctl_add_dentry() could be triggered if the control
filesystem was unmounted and mounted again while one or more fuse
filesystems were present.

The fix is to reset the dentry counter in fuse_ctl_kill_sb().

Bug reported by Florent Mertens.

8e18e2941c [PATCH] inode_diet: Replace inode.u.generic_ip with inode.i_private
The following patches reduce the size of the VFS inode structure by 28 bytes
on a UP x86. (It would be more on an x86_64 system). This is a 10% reduction
in the inode size on a UP kernel that is configured in a production mode
(i.e., with no spinlock or other debugging functions enabled; if you want to
save memory taken up by in-core inodes, the first thing you should do is
disable the debugging options; they are responsible for a huge amount of bloat
in the VFS inode structure).

This patch:

The filesystem or device-specific pointer in the inode is inside a union,
which is pretty pointless given that all 30+ users of this field have been
using the void pointer. Get rid of the union and rename it to i_private, with
a comment to explain who is allowed to use the void pointer. This is just a
cleanup, but it allows us to reuse the union 'u' for something something where
the union will actually be used.

bafa96541b [PATCH] fuse: add control filesystem
Add a control filesystem to fuse, replacing the attributes currently exported
through sysfs. An empty directory '/sys/fs/fuse/connections' is still created
in sysfs, and mounting the control filesystem here provides backward
compatibility.

Advantages of the control filesystem over the previous solution:

  - allows the object directory and the attributes to be owned by the
filesystem owner, hence letting unpriviled users abort the
    filesystem connection

  - does not suffer from module unload race
