While we have test coverage for the ptrace interface in our selftests
the current programs have a number of gaps. The testing is done per
regset so does not cover interactions and at no point do any of the
tests actually run the traced processes meaning that there is no
validation that anything we read or write corresponds to register values
the process actually sees. Let's add a new program which attempts to cover
these gaps.
Each test we do performs a single ptrace write. For each test we generate
some random initial register data in memory and then fork() and trace a
child. The child will load the generated data into the registers then
trigger a breakpoint. The parent waits for the breakpoint then reads the
entire child register state via ptrace, verifying that the values expected
were actually loaded by the child. It then does the write being tested
and resumes the child. Once resumed the child saves the register state
it sees to memory and executes another breakpoint. The parent uses
process_vm_readv() to get these values from the child and verifies that
the values were as expected before cleaning up the child.
We generate configurations with combinations of vector lengths and SVCR
values and then try every ptrace write which will implement the
transition we generated. In order to control execution time (especially
in emulation) we only cover the minimum and maximum VL for each of SVE
and SME, this will ensure we generate both increasing and decreasing
changes in vector length. In order to provide a baseline test we also
check the case where we resume the child without doing a ptrace write.
In order to simplify the generation of the test count for kselftest we
will report but skip a substantial number of tests that can't actually
be expressed via a single ptrace write, several times more than we
actually run. This is noisy and will add some overhead but is very much
simpler so is probably worth the tradeoff.

The vec-syscfg selftest verifies that setting the VL of the currently
tested vector type does not disrupt the VL of the other vector type. To do
this it records the current vector length for each type but neglects to
guard this with a check for that vector type actually being supported. Add
one, using a helper function which we also update all the other instances
of this pattern.

When TPIDR2 is not supported the tpidr2 ABI test prints the same message
for each skipped test:
ok 1 skipped, TPIDR2 not supported
which isn't ideal for test automation software since it tracks kselftest
results based on the string used to describe the test. This is also not
standard KTAP output, the expected format is:
ok 1 # SKIP default_value

we would run if the test actually executed.

The arm64 BTI selftests are currently built in the source directory,
then the generated binaries are copied to the output directory.
This leaves the object files around in a potentially otherwise pristine
source tree, tainting it for out-of-tree kernel builds.
Prepend $(OUTPUT) to every reference to an object file in the Makefile,
and remove the extra handling and copying. This puts all generated files
under the output directory.

Our ABI opts to provide future proofing by defining a much larger
SVE_VQ_MAX than the architecture actually supports. Since we use
this define to control the size of our vector data buffers this results
in a lot of overhead when we initialise which can be a very noticable
problem in emulation, we fill buffers that are orders of magnitude
larger than we will ever actually use even with virtual platforms that
provide the full range of architecturally supported vector lengths.
Define and use the actual architecture maximum to mitigate this.

When we collect a signal context with one of the SME modes enabled we will
have enabled that mode behind the compiler and libc's back so they may
issue some instructions not valid in streaming mode, causing spurious
failures.
For the code prior to issuing the BRK to trigger signal handling we need to
stay in streaming mode if we were already there since that's a part of the
signal context the caller is trying to collect. Unfortunately this code
includes a memset() which is likely to be heavily optimised and is likely
to use FP instructions incompatible with streaming mode. We can avoid this
happening by open coding the memset(), inserting a volatile assembly
statement to avoid the compiler recognising what's being done and doing
something in optimisation. This code is not performance critical so the
inefficiency should not be an issue.
After collecting the context we can simply exit streaming mode, avoiding
these issues. Use a full SMSTOP for safety to prevent any issues appearing
with ZA.

We just fixed an issue where changing the SVE VL while SME was active could
result in us attempting to save the streaming mode SVE vectors without any
backing storage. Add a test case which provokes that issue, ideally we
should also verify that the contents of ZA are unaffected by any of what we
did.
Note that since we need to keep streaming mode enabled we can't use any
syscalls to trigger the issue, we have to sit in a loop in usersapce and
hope to be preempted. The chosen numbers trigger with defconfig on all the
virtual platforms for me, this won't be 100% on all systems but avoid an
overcomplicated test implementation.

The build failure reported in [1] occurred because commit <9fc96c7c19df>
("selftests: error out if kernel header files are not yet built") added
a new "kernel_header_files" dependency to "all", and that triggered
another, pre-existing problem. Specifically, the arm64 selftests
override the emit_tests target, and that override improperly declares
itself to depend upon the "all" target.
This is a problem because the "emit_tests" target in lib.mk was not
intended to be overridden. emit_tests is a very simple, sequential build
target that was originally invoked from the "install" target, which in
turn, depends upon "all".
That approach worked for years. But with 9fc96c7c19 in place,
emit_tests failed, because it does not set up all of the elaborate
things that "install" does. And that caused the new
"kernel_header_files" target (which depends upon $(KBUILD_OUTPUT) being
correct) to fail.
Some detail: The "all" target is .PHONY. Therefore, each target that
depends on "all" will cause it to be invoked again, and because
dependencies are managed quite loosely in the selftests Makefiles, many
things will run, even "all" is invoked several times in immediate
succession. So this is not a "real" failure, as far as build steps go:
everything gets built, but "all" reports a problem when invoked a second
time from a bad environment.
To fix this, simply remove the unnecessary "all" dependency from the
overridden emit_tests target. The dependency is still effectively
honored, because again, invocation is via "install", which also depends
upon "all".
An alternative approach would be to harden the emit_tests target so that
it can depend upon "all", but that's a lot more complicated and hard to
get right, and doesn't seem worth it, especially given that emit_tests
should probably not be overridden at all.

: Fix the TPIDR2_EL0 register restoring on sigreturn
kselftest/arm64: Add a test case for TPIDR2 restore
arm64/signal: Restore TPIDR2 register rather than memory state
Due to the fact that TPIDR2 is intended to be managed by libc we don't
currently test modifying it via the signal context since that might
disrupt libc's usage of it and cause instability. We can however test the
opposite case with less risk, modifying TPIDR2 in a signal handler and
making sure that the original value is restored after returning from the
signal handler. Add a test which does this.

Add the MOPS hwcap to the hwcap kselftest and check that a SIGILL is not
generated when the feature is detected. A SIGILL is reliable when the
feature is not detected as SCTLR_EL1.MSCEn won't have been set.

There was a report that the hardware breakpoints and watch points weren't
reporting the debug architecture version as expected, they were reporting
a version of 0 which is not defined in the architecture. This happens
when running in a KVM guest if the host has a debug architecture version
not supported by KVM, it in turn confuses GDB which rejects any debug
architecture version it does not know about.
Add a test that covers that situation and while we're at it reports the
debug architecture version and number of slots available to aid with
figuring out problems that may arise.

Now that kselftest.h can be used with nolibc convert the za-fork test to
use it. We do still have to open code ksft_print_msg() but that's not the
end of the world. Some of the advantage comes from using printf() which we
could have been using already.
This does change the output when tests are skipped, bringing it in line
with the standard kselftest output by removing the test name - we move
from
ok 0 skipped
to
ok 1 # SKIP fork_test
The old output was not following KTAP format for skips, and the
numbering was not standard or consistent with the reported plan.

During early development a dependedncy was added on having FA64
available so we could use the full FPSIMD register set in the signal
handler which got copied over into the SSVE+ZA registers test case.
Subsequently the ABI was finialised so the handler is run with streaming
mode disabled meaning this is redundant but the dependency was never
removed, do so now.

When copying the EXTRA context our calculation of the amount of data we
need to copy is incorrect, we only calculate the amount of data needed
within uc_mcontext.__reserved, not taking account of the fixed portion
of the context. Add in the offset of the reserved data so that we copy
everything we should.
This will only cause test failures in cases where the last context in the
EXTRA context is smaller than the missing data since we don't currently
validate any of the register data and all the buffers we copy into are
statically allocated so default to zero meaning that if we walk beyond the
end of what we copied we'll encounter what looks like a context with magic
and length both 0 which is a valid terminator record.

The current signal handling tests for SME do not account for the fact that
unlike SVE all SME vector lengths are optional so we can't guarantee that
we will encounter the minimum possible VL, they will hang enumerating VLs
on such systems. Abort enumeration when we find the lowest VL in the newly
added ssve_za_regs test.
