regmap_bulk_read() can return a non zero value on failure. The fix checks
if the function call succeeded before calling mod_timer. The issue was
identified by a static analysis tool.

Not all devices use the same keycodes in the same order,
so add possibility to define keycodes for buttons present
on actual hardware.
If keycodes property is not present, we assume that device has
at least MENU and BACK keys.

The Microsoft documenation for the PNP0C40 device aka the
"Windows-compatible button array" describes the 5th GpioInt listed in
the resources as: '5. Interrupt corresponding to the "Rotation Lock"
button, if supported'.
Notice this describes the 5th entry as a button while we sofar have been
mapping it to EV_SW, SW_ROTATE_LOCK. On my Point of View TAB P1006W-232
which actually comes with a rotation-lock button, the button indeed is a
button and not a slider/switch. An image search for other Windows tablets
has found 2 more models with a rotation-lock button and on both of those
it too is a push-button and not a slider/switch.
Further evidence can be found in the HUT extension HUTRR52 from Microsoft
which adds rotation lock support to the HUT, which describes 2 different
usages: "0xC9 System Display Rotation Lock Button" and
"0xCA System Display Rotation Lock Slider Switch" note that switch is seen
as a separate thing here and the non switch wording is an exact match for
the "Windows-compatible button array" spec wording.
TL;DR: our current mapping of the 5th GPIO to SW_ROTATE_LOCK is wrong
because the 5th GPIO is for a push-button not a switch.
This commit fixes this by maping the 5th GPIO to KEY_ROTATE_LOCK_TOGGLE.

The ACPI0011 _DSD button descriptor on a CHT based Intel Compute Sticks
contains a mapping for usage-page 0x01 usage-id 0xca.
As described in hutrr52_system_display_rotation_lock_controls_0.pdf this
should be mapped as a "System Display Rotation Lock Slider Switch", this
commit adds support for this, silencing the following warning:

If the user attempts to update Atmel device with an invalid configuration
cfg file, error handling code is trying to free cfg file memory which is
not allocated yet hence results into kernel crash.
This patch fixes the order of memory free operations.

I've tested the offered psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 with 4.18.x and
4.19.x and it seems to work well. No problems seen with suspend/resume.
Also, it appears that RMI/SMBus mode is actually required for 3-4 finger
multitouch gestures to work -- otherwise they are not reported at all.

The current implementation of elan_i2c is known to not support those
2 laptops.
A proper fix is to tweak both elantech and elan_i2c to transmit the
correct information from PS/2, which would make a bad candidate for
stable.
So to give us some time for fixing the root of the problem, disable
elan_i2c for the devices we know are not behaving properly.

Before commit 7fd6d98b89 ("i2c: i801: Allow ACPI AML access I/O
ports not reserved for SMBus"), enabling RMI on the T560 would cause
the touchpad to stop working after resuming from suspend. Now that
this issue is fixed, RMI can be enabled safely and works fine.

With PM enabled, I noticed that pressing a key on the droid4 keyboard will
block deeper idle states for the SoC. Let's fix this by using IRQF_ONESHOT
and stop constantly toggling the device OMAP4_KBD_IRQENABLE register as
suggested by Dmitry Torokhov <dmitry.torokhov@gmail.com>.
From the hardware point of view, looks like we need to manage the registers
for OMAP4_KBD_IRQENABLE and OMAP4_KBD_WAKEUPENABLE together to avoid
blocking deeper SoC idle states. And with toggling of OMAP4_KBD_IRQENABLE
register now gone with IRQF_ONESHOT, also the SoC idle state problem is
gone during runtime. We still also need to clear OMAP4_KBD_WAKEUPENABLE in
omap4_keypad_close() though to pair it with omap4_keypad_open() to prevent
blocking deeper SoC idle states after rmmod omap4-keypad.

I noticed that the Android v3.0.8 kernel on droid4 is using different
keypad values from the mainline kernel and does not have issues with
keys occasionally being stuck until pressed again. Turns out there was
an earlier patch posted to fix this as "Input: omap-keypad: errata i689:
Correct debounce time", but it was never reposted to fix use macros
for timing calculations.
This updated version is using macros, and also fixes the use of the
input clock rate to use 32768KiHz instead of 32000KiHz. And we want to
use the known good Android kernel values of 3 and 6 instead of 2 and 6
in the earlier patch.

Noticed the other day the trackpoint felt different on my P50, then
realized it was because rmi4 wasn't loading for this machine
automatically. Suspend/resume, hibernate, and everything else seem to
work perfectly fine on here.

It makes little sense but still possible to put Hyper-V guests into
suspend-to-idle state. To wake them up two wakeup sources were registered
in the past: hyperv-keyboard and hid-hyperv. However, since
commit eed4d47efe ("ACPI / sleep: Ignore spurious SCI wakeups from
suspend-to-idle") pm_wakeup_event() from these devices is ignored. Switch
to pm_wakeup_hard_event() API as these devices are actually the only
possible way to wakeup Hyper-V guests.

This driver supports configuration via platform data but
absolutely nothing in the upstream kernel uses it. Since this
configuration allows harmful practices such as encoding the
GPIO base for the chip, delete platform data support so that
no new platform using it gets introduced.

The cros_ec_keyb_bs array lists buttons and switches together, expecting
that its users will match the appropriate type and bit fields. But
cros_ec_keyb_register_bs() only checks the 'bit' field, which causes
misreported input capabilities in some cases. For example, tablets
(e.g., Scarlet -- a.k.a. Acer Chromebook Tab 10) were reporting a SW_LID
capability, because EC_MKBP_POWER_BUTTON and EC_MKBP_LID_OPEN happen to
share the same bit.
(This has comedic effect on a tablet, in which a power-management daemon
then thinks this "lid" is closed, and so puts the system to sleep as
soon as it boots!)
To fix this, check both the 'ev_type' and 'bit' fields before reporting
the capability.
Tested with a lid (Kevin / Samsung Chromebook Plus) and without a lid
(Scarlet / Acer Chromebook Tab 10).
This error got introduced when porting the feature from the downstream
Chromium OS kernel to be upstreamed.

"of_get_named_gpio()" returns a negative error value if it fails
and drivers should check for this. This missing check was now
added to the matrix_keypad driver.
In my case "of_get_named_gpio()" returned -EPROBE_DEFER because
the referenced GPIOs belong to an I/O expander, which was not yet
probed at the point in time when the matrix_keypad driver was
loading. Because the driver did not check for errors from the
"of_get_named_gpio()" routine, it was assuming that "-EPROBE_DEFER"
is actually a GPIO number and continued as usual, which led to further
errors like this later on:

Note that the "GPIO number" -517 in the error message above is
actually "-EPROBE_DEFER".
As part of the patch a misleading error message "no platform data defined"

First of all, make it return int. Returning long when native method
had never allowed that is ridiculous and inconvenient.
More importantly, change the caller; if ldisc ->compat_ioctl() is NULL
or returns -ENOIOCTLCMD, tty_compat_ioctl() will try to feed cmd and
compat_ptr(arg) to ldisc's native ->ioctl().
That simplifies ->compat_ioctl() instances quite a bit - they only
need to deal with ioctls that are neither generic tty ones (those
would get shunted off to tty_ioctl()) nor simple compat pointer ones.
Note that something like TCFLSH won't reach ->compat_ioctl(),
even if ldisc ->ioctl() does handle it - it will be recognized
earlier and passed to tty_ioctl() (and ultimately - ldisc ->ioctl()).
For many ldiscs it means that NULL ->compat_ioctl() does the
right thing. Those where it won't serve (see e.g. n_r3964.c) are
also easily dealt with - we need to handle the numeric-argument
ioctls (calling the native instance) and, if such would exist,
the ioctls that need layout conversion, etc.
All in-tree ldiscs dealt with.

Some touchscreens, depending on the firmware and/or the digitizer, report
coordinates which never reach 0 along one or both of their axis.
This has been seen for example on the Silead touchscreens on a Onda V891w
and a Point of View mobii TAB-P800w(v2.0).
This commit adds support for touchscreen-min-x and touchscreen-min-y
device-properties which can be set to communicate the actual start
coordinates (rather then 0,0) to userspace.
This commit also drop the "(in pixels)" comment from the documentation
of the touchscreen-size-x and touchscreen-size-y properties. The comment
suggested that there is a relation between the range of reported
coordinates and the display resolution, which is only true for some
devices. The "(in pixels)" comment is replaced with "(maximum x coordinate
reported + 1)" to mirror the language describing the new touchscreen-min-x
and -min-y properties.
When set this fixes e.g. not being able to click things in the GNOME3
top-bar on the 2 example tablets.

A certain silead controller (Chip ID: 0x56810000) loses its firmware
after suspend, causing the resume to fail. This patch tries to load
the firmware, should a resume error occur and retries the resuming.

Previously, on typical consumer laptops, pressing a key on the keyboard
when the system is in suspend would cause it to wake up (default or
unconditional behaviour). This happens because the EC generates a SCI
interrupt in this scenario.
That is no longer true on modern laptops based on Intel WhiskeyLake,
including Acer Swift SF314-55G, Asus UX333FA, Asus UX433FN and Asus
UX533FD. We confirmed with Asus EC engineers that the "Modern Standby"
design has been modified so that the EC no longer generates a SCI
in this case; the keyboard controller itself should be used for wakeup.
In order to retain the standard behaviour of being able to use the
keyboard to wake up the system, enable serio wakeups by default on
platforms that are using s2idle.

The "Xbox One PDP Wired Controller - Camo series" has a different
product-id than the regular PDP controller and the PDP stealth series,
but it uses the same initialization sequence. This patch adds the
product-id of the camo series to the structures that handle the other
PDP Xbox One controllers.

The CapsLock key on Atari keyboards is not a toggle, it does send the
normal make and break scancodes.
Drop the CapsLock toggle handling code, which did cause the CapsLock
key to merely act as a Shift key.

Split regmap_config.use_single_rw into use_single_read and
use_single_write. This change enables drivers of devices which only
support bulk operations in one direction to use the regmap_bulk_*()
functions for both directions and have their bulk operation split into
single operations only when necessary.
Update all struct regmap_config instances where use_single_rw==true to
instead set both use_single_read and use_single_write. No attempt was
made to evaluate whether it is possible to set only one of
use_single_read or use_single_write.

- new FSI driver subsystem, yet-another-powerpc low-level

- gnss, finally an in-kernel GPS subsystem to try to tame all of
the crazy out-of-tree drivers that have been floating around
for years, combined with some really hacky userspace
implementations. This is only for GNSS receivers, but you
have to start somewhere, and this is great to see.
Other than that, there are new slimbus drivers, new coresight drivers,
new fpga drivers, and loads of DT bindings for all of these and existing
drivers.

Here are the big staging/iio patches for 4.19-rc1.
Lots of churn here, with tons of cleanups happening in staging drivers,
a removal of an old crypto driver that no one was using (skein), and the
addition of some new IIO drivers. Also added was a "gasket" driver from
Google that needs loads of work and the erofs filesystem.
Even with adding all of the new drivers and a new filesystem, we are
only adding about 1000 lines overall to the kernel linecount, which
shows just how much cleanup happened, and how big the unused crypto
driver was.
All of these have been in the linux-next tree for a while now with no
reported issues.
Note, you will have a merge problem with a device tree IIO file and the
MAINTAINERS file, both resolutions are easy, just take all changed.
There will be a skein file merge issue as well, but that file got
deleted so just drop that.

Some of fuzzers set panic_on_warn=1 so that they can handle WARN()ings
the same way they handle full-blown kernel crashes. We used WARN() in
input_alloc_absinfo() to get a better idea where memory allocation
failed, but since then kmalloc() and friends started dumping call stack on
memory allocation failures anyway, so we are not getting anything extra
from WARN().
Because of the above, let's replace WARN with dev_err(). We use dev_err()
instead of simply removing message and relying on kcalloc() to give us
stack dump so that we'd know the instance of hardware device to which we
were trying to attach input device.

Comparing an int to a size, which is unsigned, causes the int to become
unsigned, giving the wrong result. i2c_smbus_read_block_data can return the
result of i2c_smbus_xfer, whih can return a negative error code.

In order to support resin thru the pwrkey driver (they are very
similar in nature) we need to abstract the handling in this driver.
First we abstract pull_up_bit and status_bit along in driver data.
The event code sent for key events is quiried from DT.
Since the device can be child of pon lookup regmap and reg from
parent if lookup fails (we are child).

Internally, hilkbd uses "unsigned long" I/O addresses everywhere.
This works fine as:
- On PA-RISC, hilkbd uses the gsc_{read,write}b() I/O accessors, which
take "unsigned long" addresses,
- On m68k, hilkbd uses {read,write}b(), which are currently mapped to
{in,out}_8(), and convert the passed addresses to pointers
internally.
However, the asm-generic version of {read,write}b() does not perform

* btn_avb_pegasus and btn_avb_tw are the same. Unify them
into btn_joystick_avb.
* btn_wheel is an exact copy of btn_joystick, so remove it.
Rename btn_avb_wheel into btn_wheel since it is the only
sane configuration for a wheel.
* Assign the (new) btn_wheel configuration to the "AVB Top
Shot Force Feedback Racing Wheel", because the previous
configuration was meant for a joystick.

We use sscanf to parse the configuration file, so it's necessary to zero
terminate the configuration otherwise a truncated file can cause the
parser to run off into uninitialised memory.

The driver only registers one input device, which uses the screen
parameters from the first T9 instance. The first T63 instance also uses
those parameters.
It is incorrect to send input reports from the second instances of these
objects if they are enabled: the input scaling will be wrong and the
positions will be mashed together.
This also causes problems on Android if the number of slots exceeds 32.
In the future, this could be handled by looking for enabled touch object
instances and creating an input device for each one.

Move BTN_DEAD into the arrays with the specific button sets
instead of assigning it for every iforce device.
BTN_DEAD represents an optical sensor which detects if the
user is interacting with the device. On devices without that
optical sensor BTN_DEAD is repeatedly causing false inputs
on every status update of the joystick.

Use dev_dbg to dump the packages only when requested and to list
the parent device as well. Use printf logic to generate the hexdump
instead of looping through every char that needs to be printed (which
in turn fixes the unnecessary newlines and looks more clean in general).

Instead of splitting probe code into separate USB and input setup, flatten it.
This allows for easier inspection of order of set up steps, since the probe code

URB is the only resource that is not managed, and thus is destroyed too early,
before we unregister input device and stop URB in pxrc_close(). To fix it let's
install custom devm handler to free the URB at the right time in devm unwind
sequence.

The USB device is only needed during setup, so put it back after
initialization and do not store it in our private struct.
Also, the USB device is a parent of USB interface so our driver
model rules ensure that USB device should not disappear while
interface device is still there; there is no need to take reference
to the USB device.

The Lenovo LaVie Z laptop requires i8042 to be reset in order to
consistently detect its Elantech touchpad. The nomux and kbdreset
quirks are not sufficient.
It's possible the other LaVie Z models from NEC require this as well.

Locking the root adapter for __i2c_transfer will deadlock if the
device sits behind a mux-locked I2C mux. Switch to the finer-grained
i2c_lock_bus with the I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT flag. If the device does not
sit behind a mux-locked mux, the two locking variants are equivalent.

The only user of this driver in mainline does not make use of the module
parameters, so let's remove them. All properties for this driver should be
set through DT or pdata.
Use touchscreen_parse_properties() to automatically set some of the common
touchscreen properties and derive the axis inversion through that.
And finally, use touchscreen_report_pos() to handle the DT properties
automatically instead of doing the inversion ourselves.

The driver still obtains IRQ number from a hardcoded GPIO. Use IRQ
resource instead.
For this to work on Amstrad Delta, add the IRQ resource to
ams-delta-serio platform device structure. Obtain the IRQ number
assigned to "keybrd_clk" GPIO pin from FIQ initialization routine.
As a benefit, the driver no longer needs to include
<mach/board-ams-delta.h>.

From the very beginning, input GPIO pins of ams-delta serio port have
been used by FIQ handler, not serio driver.
Don't request those pins from the ams-delta-serio driver any longer,
instead keep them requested and initialized by the FIQ initialization
routine which already requests them and releases while identifying GPIO
IRQs.

"keybrd_dataout" GPIO pin used to be initialized by ams-delta-serio
driver to a state safe for ams-delta-serio device function and not
changed thereafter. As such, it may be assumed not under the driver
control and responsibility for its initialization handed over to board
init file.
Introduce a GPIO hog table and take over control of the
"keybrd_dataout" GPIO pin from the ams-delta-serio driver.

Modify the driver so it no longer requests and manipulates the
"keybrd_pwr" GPIO pin but a "vcc" regulator supply instead.
For this to work with Amstrad Delta, define a regulator over the
"keybrd_pwr" GPIO pin with the "vcc" supply for ams-delta-serio device
and register it from the board file. Both assign an absulute GPIO
number to the soon depreciated .gpio member of the regulator config
structure, and also build and register a GPIO lookup table so it is
ready for use by the regulator driver as soon as its upcoming update
is applied.

Commit 40f7090bb1 ("Input: elan_i2c_smbus - fix corrupted stack")
fixed most of the functions using i2c_smbus_read_block_data() to
allocate a buffer with the maximum block size. However three
functions were left unchanged:
* In elan_smbus_initialize(), increase the buffer size in the same
way.
* In elan_smbus_calibrate_result(), the buffer is provided by the
caller (calibrate_store()), so introduce a bounce buffer. Also
name the result buffer size.
* In elan_smbus_get_report(), the buffer is provided by the caller
but happens to be the right length. Add a compile-time assertion
to ensure this remains the case.

It is now only possible to control if multi-touch virtual device
is created or not (via the corresponding XenStore entries),
but keyboard and pointer devices are always created.
In some cases this is not desirable. For example, if virtual
keyboard device is exposed to Android then the latter won't
automatically show on-screen keyboard as it expects that a
physical keyboard device can be used for typing.
Utilize keyboard and pointer device XenStore feature fields to
configure which virtual devices are created:
- set "feature-disable-keyboard" to 1 if no keyboard device
needs to be created
- set "feature-disable-pointer" to 1 if no pointer device
needs to be created
Keep old behavior by default.

swapping is done after inverting if both are used. RMI4 did it the other

This adds a generic resistive touchscreen (GRTS) driver, which is based
on an IIO device (an ADC). It must be connected to the channels of an ADC
to receive touch data. Then it will feed the data into the input subsystem
where it registers an input device.
It uses an IIO callback buffer to register to the IIO device

the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along

Prevent system suspend while user has finger on touch screen,
because TSC is wakeup source and suspending device while in use will
result in failure to disable the module.
This patch uses pm_stay_awake() and pm_relax() APIs to prevent and
resume system suspend as required.

It is seen that just enabling the TSC module triggers a HW_PEN IRQ
without any interaction with touchscreen by user. This results in first
suspend/resume sequence to fail as system immediately wakes up from
suspend as soon as HW_PEN IRQ is enabled in suspend handler due to the
pending IRQ. Therefore clear all IRQs at probe and also in suspend
callback for sanity.

The current reset-gpio support triggers an interrupt storm on platforms
using the maxtouch with level based interrupt. The Motorola Droid 4,
which I used for some of the tests is not affected, since it uses a edge
based interrupt.
This change avoids the interrupt storm by enabling the device while its
interrupt is disabled. Afterwards we wait 100ms. This is important for
two reasons: The device is unresponsive for some time (~22ms for
mxt224E) and the CHG (interrupt) line is not working properly for 100ms.
We don't need to wait for any following interrupts, since the following
mxt_initialize() checks for bootloader mode anyways.
This fixes a boot issue on GE PPD (watchdog kills device due to
interrupt storm) and does not cause regression on Motorola Droid 4.

The driver needs help determining whether it is dealing with a touchscreen
or a touchpad, and with button mapping. Previously we supported passing
this data via device properties, and also had DMI lists for Chromebooks
that specified Atmel devices in ACPI, but did not provide enough data
there. Now that chromeos_laptop driver is adjusted to supply necessary
device properties even for ACPI devices, we can drop the DMI tables and
refuse to probe if device properties are not attached to the device.
We use presence of "compatible" property to determine if device properties
are attached to the device or not and rely on chromeos_laptop to re-probe
the device after attaching missing device properties to it.

New ICs are using a different scheme for the alternate bus parameter.
Given that they are new and are only using either PS2 only or PS2 + SMBus
Host Notify, we force those new ICs to use the SMBus solution for enhanced
reporting.
This allows the touchpad found on the Lenovo T480s to report 5 fingers
every 8 ms, instead of having a limit of 2 every 8 ms.

Many of the Elantech devices are connected through PS/2 and a different
bus (SMBus or plain I2C).
To not break any existing device, we only enable SMBus based
on a module parameter. If some laptops require the quirk to
be set, we will have to rely on a list of PNPIds or MDI matching
to individually expose those hardware over SMBus.
the parameter mentioned above is elantech_smbus from the psmouse
module.

The Elan touchpads over I2C/SMBus also can handle a trackstick.
Unfortunately, nothing tells us if the device supports trackstick (the
information lies in the PS/2 node), so rely on device properties to
determine whether to enable the trackstick node.

New ICs (like the one on the Lenovo T480s) answer to
ETP_SMBUS_IAP_VERSION_CMD 4 bytes instead of 3. This corrupts the stack
as i2c_smbus_read_block_data() uses the values returned by the i2c
device to know how many data it need to return.
i2c_smbus_read_block_data() can read up to 32 bytes (I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX)
and there is no safeguard on how many bytes are provided in the return
value. Ensure we always have enough space for any future firmware.
Also 0-initialize the values to prevent any access to uninitialized memory.

This time, Lenovo decided to go with different pieces in its latest
series of Thinkpads.
For those we have been able to test:
- the T480 is using Synaptics with an IBM trackpoint
-> it behaves properly with or without intertouch, there is no point
not using RMI4
- the X1 Carbon 6th gen is using Synaptics with an IBM trackpoint
-> the touchpad doesn't behave properly under PS/2 so we have to
switch it to RMI4 if we do not want to have disappointed users
- the X280 is using Synaptics with an ALPS trackpoint
-> the recent fixes in the trackpoint handling fixed it so upstream
now works fine with or without RMI4, and there is no point not
using RMI4
- the T480s is using an Elan touchpad, so that's a different story

Synaptics devices reported it has Intertouch support,
and it fails via PS/2 as following logs:
psmouse serio2: Failed to reset mouse on synaptics-pt/serio0
psmouse serio2: Failed to enable mouse on synaptics-pt/serio0
Set these new devices to use SMBus to fix this issue, then they report
SMBus version 3 is using, patch:

makes synaptics devices work fine on SMBus mode.

Lenovo use two different trackpoints in the fifth generation Thinkpad X1
Carbon. Both are accessible over SMBUS/RMI but the pnpIDs are missing.
This patch is for the Elantech trackpoint specifically which also
reports SMB version 3 so rmi_smbus needs to be updated in order to
handle it.
For the record, I was not the first one to come up with this patch as it
has been floating around the internet for a while now. However, I have
spent significant time with testing and my efforts to find the original
author of the patch have been unsuccessful.

The ChipOne icn8505 is an i2c capacitive touchscreen controller typically
used in cheap x86 tablets, this commit adds a driver for it.
Note the icn8505 is somewhat similar to the icn8318 and I started with
modifying that driver to support both, but in the end the differences were
too large and I decided to write a new driver instead.

Commit af503716ac ("i2c: core: report OF style module alias for devices
registered via OF") fixed how the I2C core reports the module alias when
devices are registered via OF.
But the atmel_mxt_ts driver only has an "atmel,maxtouch" compatible in its
OF device ID table, so if a Device Tree is using a different one, autoload
won't be working for the module (the matching works because the I2C device
ID table is used as a fallback).
So add compatible strings for each of the entries in the I2C device table.

The automatic update mechanism will trigger an update if the
info block CRCs are different between maxtouch configuration
file (maxtouch.cfg) and chip.
The driver compared the CRCs without retrieving the chip CRC,
resulting always in a failure and firmware flashing action
triggered. Fix this issue by retrieving the chip info block
CRC before the check.
Note that this solution has the benefit that by reading the
information block and the object table into a contiguous region
of memory, we can verify the checksum at probe time. This means
we make sure that we are indeed talking to a chip that supports
object protocol correctly.
Using this patch on a kevin chromebook, the touchscreen and
touchpad drivers are able to match the CRC:

This patch adds the correct platform data information for the Caroline
Chromebook, so that the mouse button does not get stuck in pressed state
after the first click.
The Samus button keymap and platform data definition are the correct
ones for Caroline, so they have been reused here.

As stated in the pull request for the unification of CLOCK_MONOTONIC and
CLOCK_BOOTTIME, it was clear that we might have to revert the change.
As reported by several folks systemd and other applications rely on the
documented behaviour of CLOCK_MONOTONIC on Linux and break with the above
changes. After resume daemons time out and other timeout related issues are
observed. Rafael compiled this list:
* systemd kills daemons on resume, after >WatchdogSec seconds
of suspending (Genki Sky). [Verified that that's because systemd uses
CLOCK_MONOTONIC and expects it to not include the suspend time.]
* systemd-journald misbehaves after resume:
systemd-journald[7266]: File /var/log/journal/016627c3c4784cd4812d4b7e96a34226/system.journal
corrupted or uncleanly shut down, renaming and replacing.
(Mike Galbraith).
* NetworkManager reports "networking disabled" and networking is broken
after resume 50% of the time (Pavel). [May be because of systemd.]
* MATE desktop dims the display and starts the screensaver right after
system resume (Pavel).
* Full system hang during resume (me). [May be due to systemd or NM or both.]
That happens on debian and open suse systems.
It's sad, that these problems were neither catched in -next nor by those
folks who expressed interest in this change.

Extract initialization of trackstick part when touchpad is in passthrough
mode for v3 and v6 protocols into own function. Initialization for v3 is:
setscale11, setscale11, setscale11, nibble 0x9, nibble 0x4. Initialization
for v6 is: setscale11, setscale11, setscale11, setrate 0xC8, setrate 0x14.
Nibbles 0x9 and 0x4 for v3 protocol correspond to setrate 0xC8 and 0x14,
therefore these sequences are same.
When touchpad is in passthrough mode, then OS communicates with trackstick
and this sequence is some magic vendor PS/2 command to put trackstick into
"extended" mode. After that sequence trackstick starts reporting packets in
some vendor 4 bytes format (first byte is always 0xE8).
Next step after configuring trackstick to be in "extended" mode, is to
configure touchpad for v3 protocol to expect that trackstick reports data
in "extended" mode. For v3 protocol this is done by setting bit 1 in
register 0xC2C8 (offset 0x08 from base address 0xC2C0).
When both touchpad and trackstick are not configured for "extended" mode
then touchpad reports trackstick packets in different format, which is not
supported by psmouse/alps driver (yet).

Move older ChromeOS devices describing Atmel controllers in ACPI, but not
providing enough details to configure the controllers properly, from
platform data over to generic device properties. This will allow us
remove support for platform data later on, leaving only generic device
properties in place.

Instead of using OF-specific APIs to fecth device properties, let's switch
to generic device properties API. This will allow us to use device
properties on legacy ChromeOS devices and get rid of platform data down
the road.

The way we are supposed to put controller to sleep and wake it up does not
depend on the platform, but rather on controller itself, so we want to get
rid of suspend mode in platform data (and eventually get rid of platform
data completely). Unfortunately some early chromebooks (the original Pixel,
Acer C720) were shipped with config that requires manually re-enabling
touch reporting in T9. We will sort it out, but in the meantime let's
switch to a simple DMI quirk.
We'll keep pdata->suspend_mode for now and remove it when we rework
chromeos-laptop driver.

When extending the rmi_spi buffers, we must check that no out of memory
error occurs, otherwise we may access data above the currently allocated
memory.
Propagate the error code returned by 'rmi_spi_manage_pools()' instead.

The touch sensor buttons on Sony VAIO VGN-CS series laptops (e.g.
VGN-CS31S) are a separate PS/2 device. As the MUX is disabled for all
VAIO machines by the nomux blacklist, the data from touch sensor
buttons and touchpad are combined. The protocol used by the buttons is
probably similar to the touchpad protocol (both are Synaptics) so both
devices get enabled. The controller combines the data, creating a mess
which results in random button clicks, touchpad stopping working and
lost sync error messages:

metag, mn10300, score, and tile, including the associated device drivers.
I have been working with the (former) maintainers for each one to ensure
that my interpretation was right and the code is definitely unused in
mainline kernels. Many had fond memories of working on the respective
ports to start with and getting them included in upstream, but also saw
no point in keeping the port alive without any users.
In the end, it seems that while the eight architectures are extremely
different, they all suffered the same fate: There was one company
in charge of an SoC line, a CPU microarchitecture and a software
ecosystem, which was more costly than licensing newer off-the-shelf
CPU cores from a third party (typically ARM, MIPS, or RISC-V). It seems
that all the SoC product lines are still around, but have not used the
custom CPU architectures for several years at this point. In contrast,
CPU instruction sets that remain popular and have actively maintained
kernel ports tend to all be used across multiple licensees.
The removal came out of a discussion that is now documented at
https://lwn.net/Articles/748074/. Unlike the original plans, I'm not
marking any ports as deprecated but remove them all at once after I made
sure that they are all unused. Some architectures (notably tile, mn10300,
and blackfin) are still being shipped in products with old kernels,
but those products will never be updated to newer kernel releases.
After this series, we still have a few architectures without mainline
gcc support:

Executing stmfts_power_on() function lasts over 2 seconds, what
significantly slows down the boot and resume processes if driver is
compiled in. Avoid this delay by forcing this driver to be probed
and suspended/resumed asynchronously.

The primary interface for the touchpad device in Thinkpad L570 is SMBus,
so ALPS overlooked PS2 interface Firmware setting of TrackStick, and
shipped with TrackStick otp bit is disabled.
The address 0xD7 contains device number information, so we can identify
the device by checking this value, but to access it we need to enable
Command mode, and then re-enable the device. Devices shipped in Thinkpad
L570 report either 0x0C or 0x1D as device numbers, if we see them we assume
that the devices are DualPoints.
The same issue exists on Dell Latitude 7370.

ALPS v3 and v7 packet formats reports trackstick pressure. This information
is already parsed in unused "z" variable.
ALPS SS4 S2 devices already reports trackstick pressure as ABS_PRESSURE
attribute, therefore reports pressure in the same way also for v3 and v7.
This patch also updates parsing v3 pressure information, it is also stored
in 7 bits.

input_dev->users is already incremented by the input subsystem,
therefore this expression will always be evaluated to true:

usb_autopm_get_interface() that is called in usbtouch_open() does an
autoresume if the device is suspended.
input_dev->mutex used in usbtouch_resume() is in this case already

If the device is unused and suspended, a call to open will cause the
device to autoresume through the call to usb_autopm_get_interface().
input_dev->users is already incremented by the input subsystem,
therefore this expression will always be evaluated to true:

Add support for specifying event actions to trigger wakeup when using
the gpio-keys input device as a wakeup source.
This would allow the device to configure when to wakeup the system. For
example a gpio-keys input device for pen insert, may only want to wakeup
the system when ejecting the pen.

This commit add ACPI support for Chuwi Hi8 tablet. On the ACPI table of
the tablet, GSL1680 is registered as MSSL0001, so the driver does not

Now that the MONOTONIC and BOOTTIME clocks are indentical, remove all the
special casing.
The user space visible interfaces still support both clocks, but their behavior
is identical.

Reset i8042 before probing because of insufficient BIOS initialisation of
the i8042 serial controller. This makes Synaptics touchpad detection
possible. Without resetting the Synaptics touchpad is not detected because
there are always NACK messages from AUX port.

These functions provide write access to the internal LCD panel registers
which also control the sensor. They can be used to disable the
preprocessor, set the illumination brightness, and adjust gain/contrast
(which are stored together in one register internally called "vsvideo").

values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

If matrix_keypad_stop() is executing and the keypad interrupt is triggered,
disable_row_irqs() may be called by both matrix_keypad_interrupt() and
matrix_keypad_stop() at the same time, causing interrupts to be disabled
twice and the keypad being "stuck" after resuming.
Take lock when setting keypad->stopped to ensure that ISR will not race
with matrix_keypad_stop() disabling interrupts.

We do not need to call ps2_command() several times in a row, transmitting
every byte as it were a command byte, we can often pack it all in a single
command.
Also, now that ps2_command() handles retransmission, we do not need to do
it ourselves in trackpoint_power_on_reset().

When we probe PS/2 devices we first issue "Get ID" command and only if we
receive what we consider a valid keyboard or mouse ID we disable the device
and continue with protocol detection. That means that the device may be
transmitting motion or keystroke data, while we expect ACK response.
Instead of signaling failure if we see anything but ACK/NAK let's ignore
"garbage" response until we see ACK for the command byte (first byte). The
checks for subsequent ACKs of command parameters will continue be strict.

The devices are allowed to respond to either command byte or command
parameter with a NAK (0xfe), and the host is supposed to resend the
"correct" byte. The device then will either respond with ACK or ERR (0xfc).
Let's teach libps2 to handle the NAK responses properly, so that individual
drivers do not need to handle them.

Debugging via i8042.debug and analyzing raw PS/2 data stream may be
cumbersome as you need to locate the boundaries of commands, decipher the
sliced commands, etc, etc. Let's add a bit more high level debug statements
for ps2_sendbyte(), ps2_command(), and ps2_sliced_command().
We do not introduce a new module parameter, but rater rely on the kernel
having dynamic debug facility enabled (which most everyone has nowadays).
Enable with:

or add "libps2.dyndbg=+pf" to the kernel command line.

Instead of using unsigned char for the byte data switch to using u8. Also
use unsigned int for the command codes and timeouts, and have
ps2_handle_ack() and ps2_handle_response() return bool instead of int, as
they do not return error codes but rather signal whether a byte was handled
or not handled. ps2_is_keyboard_id() now returns bool as well.

This Far-Eastern company's PS/2 mice use a deviant format for the data
relating to movement of the scroll wheels for, at least, their dual wheel
mice, such as their "Optical GreatEye Wheelmouse" model "WOP-35". This
product has five "buttons" (one of which is the click action on the first
wheel) and TWO scroll wheels. However for a byte comprising d0-d7 instead
of setting one of d6-7 in the forth byte of the mouse data packet and a
twos complement number of scroll steps in the remaining d5-d0 (or d3-d0
should there be a fourth (BTN_SIDE - d4) or fifth (BTN_EXTRA - d5) button
to report; they only report a single +/- event for each wheel and use a bit
pattern that corresponds to +/-1 for the first wheel and +/- 2 for the
second in the lower nibble of the fourth byte.
The effect with existing code is that the second mouse wheel merely repeats
the effect of the first but providing two steps per click rather than the
one of the first wheel - so there is no HORIZONTAL scroll wheel movement
detected from the device as far as the rest of the kernel sees it.
This patch, if enabled by the "a4tech_workaround" module parameter modifies
the handling just for mice of type PSMOUSE_IMEX so that the second scroll
wheel movement gets correctly reported as REL_HWHEEL events. Should this
module parameter be activated for other mice of the same PSMOUSE_IMEX type
then it is possible that at the point where the mouse reports more than a
single movement step the user may start seeing horizontal rather than
vertical wheel events, but should the movement steps get to be more than
two at a time the hack will get immediately deactivated and the behaviour
will revert to the past code.
This was discussed around *fifteen* *years* *ago* on the LKML and the best
summary is in post https://lkml.org/lkml/2002/7/18/111 "Re: PS2 Input Core
Support" by Vojtech Pavlik. I was not able to locate any discussion later
than this on this topic.
Given that most users of the "psmouse" module will NOT want this additional
feature enabled I have taken the apparently erroneous step of defaulting
the module parameter that enables it to be "disabled" - this functionality
may interfere with the operation of "normal" mice of this type (until a
large enough scroll wheel movement is detected) so I cannot see how it
would want to be enabled for "normal" users - i.e. everyone without this
brand of mouse.
I am using this patch at the moment and I can confirm that it is working
for me as both a module and compiled into the kernel for my mouse that is
of the type (WOP-35) described - I note that it is still available from
certain on-line retailers and that the manufacturers site does not list
GNU/Linux as being supported on the product page - this patch however does
enable full use of this product:

Sync with mainline to get in trackpoint updates and other changes.
Use touchscreen_properties structure instead of implementing all
properties by our own. It allows us to reuse generic code for parsing
device-tree properties (which was implemented manually in the driver for
now). Additionally, it allows us to report events using generic
touchscreen_report_pos(), which automatically handles inverted and
swapped axes.
This fixes the issue with the custom code incorrectly handling case where
ts->inverted_x and ts->swapped_x_y were true, but ts->inverted_y was
false. Assuming we have 720x1280 touch panel, ts->abs_x_max == 1279 and
ts->abs_y_max == 719 (because we inverted that in goodix_read_config()).
Now let's assume that we received event from (0:0) position (in touch
panel original coordinates). In function goodix_ts_report_touch() we
calculate input_x as 1279, but after swapping input_y takes that value
(which is more that maximum 719 value reported during initialization).
Note that since touchscreen coordinates are 0-indexed, we now report
touchscreen range as (0:size-1).
Developed and tested on custom DT-based device with gt1151 touch
panel.

Pull poll annotations from Al Viro:
"This introduces a __bitwise type for POLL### bitmap, and propagates
the annotations through the tree. Most of that stuff is as simple as
'make ->poll() instances return __poll_t and do the same to local
variables used to hold the future return value'.
Some of the obvious brainos found in process are fixed (e.g. POLLIN
misspelled as POLL_IN). At that point the amount of sparse warnings is
low and most of them are for genuine bugs - e.g. ->poll() instance
deciding to return -EINVAL instead of a bitmap. I hadn't touched those
in this series - it's large enough as it is.
Another problem it has caught was eventpoll() ABI mess; select.c and
eventpoll.c assumed that corresponding POLL### and EPOLL### were
equal. That's true for some, but not all of them - EPOLL### are
arch-independent, but POLL### are not.
The last commit in this series separates userland POLL### values from
the (now arch-independent) kernel-side ones, converting between them
in the few places where they are copied to/from userland. AFAICS, this
is the least disruptive fix preserving poll(2) ABI and making epoll()
work on all architectures.
As it is, it's simply broken on sparc - try to give it EPOLLWRNORM and
it will trigger only on what would've triggered EPOLLWRBAND on other
architectures. EPOLLWRBAND and EPOLLRDHUP, OTOH, are never triggered
at all on sparc. With this patch they should work consistently on all
architectures"

The MMS114 platform data has no in-tree users, so drop it.
Switch to using the standard touchscreen properties via
touchscreen_parse_properties(), and move the old DT parsing code
to use device_property_*() APIs.
Finally, use touchscreen_report_pos to report x/y coordinates
and drop the custom x/y inversion code.

When attempting enter factory mode on firmware that does not support it,
we'd error out, but leave the device with interrupts disabled, and thus
touch not working. Fix it by moving the check before we disable
interrupts/allocate memory for debug buffers.

The interrupt is requested before the device is powered on and
it's value in some cases cannot be reliable. It happens on some
devices that an interrupt is generated as soon as requested
before having the chance to disable the irq.
Set the irq flag as IRQ_NOAUTOEN before requesting it.
This patch mutes the error:
stmfts 2-0049: failed to read events: -11
received sometimes during boot time.

To ease analyzing boot behavior from logs, let's log when we are about to
register the pass-through serio port.
Also, let's drop "Synaptics" prefix from the port name, as RMI4 is good
enough indicator already, and having the prefix means that the name does
not fit into serio->name field. While at it move from hard-coded seio->phys
to one mentioning the sensor ID (such as "rmi4-00.fn03/serio0").

Currently we register the pass-through serio port when we probe the F03 RMI
function, and then, in sensor configure phase, we unmask interrupts.
Unfortunately this is too late, as other drivers are free probe devices
attached to the serio port as soon as it is probed. Because interrupts are
masked, the IO times out, which may result in not being able to detect
trackpoints on the pass-through port.
To fix the issue we implement open() and close() methods for the
pass-through serio port and unmask interrupts from there. We also move
creation of the pass-through port form probe to configure stage, as RMI
driver does not enable transport interrupt until all functions are probed
(we should change this, but this is a separate topic).
We also try to clear the pending data before unmasking interrupts, because
some devices like to spam the system with multiple 0xaa 0x00 announcements,
which may interfere with us trying to query ID of the device.

The newer trackpoints from ALPS, Elan and NXP implement a very limited
subset of extended commands and controls that the original trackpoints
implemented, so we should not be exposing not working controls in sysfs.
The newer trackpoints also do not implement "Power On Reset" or "Read
Extended Button Status", so we should not be using these commands during
initialization.
While we are at it, let's change "unsigned char" to u8 for byte data or
bool for booleans and use better suited error codes instead of -1.

Lenovo introduced trackpoint compatible sticks with minimum PS/2 commands.
They supposed to reply with 0x02, 0x03, or 0x04 in response to the
"Read Extended ID" command, so we would know not to try certain extended
commands. Unfortunately even some trackpoints reporting the original IBM
version (0x01 firmware 0x0e) now respond with incorrect data to the "Get
Extended Buttons" command:

could have been rewritten to work with AT91 devices, but the driver is from

There is no need to #define the license of the driver, just put it in
the MODULE_LICENSE() line directly as a text string.
This allows tools that check that the module license matches the source
code license to work properly, as there is no need to unwind the
unneeded dereference. For some of these drivers, the #define is just a
few lines above the MODULE_LICENSE() line, which is extra pointless.

input_mt_init_slots() resets the ABS_X/Y fuzz to 0 and expects the driver
to call input_mt_report_pointer_emulation(). That is based on the MT
position bits which are already defuzzed - hence a fuzz of 0.
In the case of synaptics semi-mt devices, we report the ABS_X/Y axes
manually. This results in the MT position being defuzzed but the
single-touch emulation missing that defuzzing.
Work around this by re-initializing the ABS_X/Y axes after the MT axis to
get the same fuzz value back.

When Synaptics protocol is disabled, we still need to try and detect the
hardware, so we can switch to SMBus device if SMbus is detected, or we know
that it is Synaptics device and reset it properly for the bare PS/2
protocol.

We should not try to do any i2c transfers before the controller is
resumed (which happens before our resume method gets called).
So we need to disable our IRQ while suspended to enforce this. The
code paths for devices with GPIOs for the int and reset pins already
disable the IRQ the through goodix_free_irq().
This commit also disables the IRQ while suspended for devices without
GPIOs for the int and reset pins.
This fixes the i2c bus sometimes getting stuck after a suspend/resume
causing the touchscreen to sometimes not work after a suspend/resume.
This has been tested on a GPD pocked device.

The fix for handling two-finger scroll (i4a646580f793 - "Input: ALPS -
fix two-finger scroll breakage in right side on ALPS touchpad")
introduced a minor "typo" that broke decoding of multi-touch events are
decoded on some ALPS touchpads. For example, tapping with three-fingers
can no longer be used to emulate middle-mouse-button (the kernel doesn't
recognize this as the proper event, and doesn't report it correctly to
userspace). This affects touchpads that use SS4 "plus" protocol
variant, like those found on Dell E7270 & E7470 laptops (tested on
E7270).
First, probably the code in alps_decode_ss4_v2() for case
SS4_PACKET_ID_MULTI used inconsistent indices to "f->mt[]". You can see
0 & 1 are used for the "if" part but 2 & 3 are used for the "else" part.
Second, in the previous patch, new macros were introduced to decode X
coordinates specific to the SS4 "plus" variant, but the macro to
define the maximum X value wasn't changed accordingly. The macros to
decode X values for "plus" variant are effectively shifted right by 1
bit, but the max wasn't shifted too. This causes the driver to
incorrectly handle "no data" cases, which also interfered with how
multi-touch was handled.

The input events use struct timeval to store event time, unfortunately
this structure is not y2038 safe and is being replaced in kernel with
y2038 safe structures.
Because of ABI concerns we can not change the size or the layout of
structure input_event, so we opt to re-interpreting the 'seconds' part
of timestamp as an unsigned value, effectively doubling the range of
values, to year 2106.
Newer glibc that has support for 32 bit applications to use 64 bit
time_t supplies __USE_TIME_BITS64 define [1], that we can use to present
the userspace with updated input_event layout. The updated layout will
cause the compile time breakage, alerting applications and distributions
maintainers to the issue. Existing 32 binaries will continue working
without any changes until 2038.
Ultimately userspace applications should switch to using monotonic or
boot time clocks, as realtime clock is not very well suited for input
event timestamps as it can go backwards (see a80b83b7b8 "Input: evdev -
add CLOCK_BOOTTIME support" by by John Stultz). With monotonic clock the
practical range of reported times will always fit into the pair of 32
bit values, as we do not expect any system to stay up for a hundred
years without a single reboot.

On some x86 tablets with a silead touchscreen the windows logo on the
front is a capacitive home button. Touching this button results in a touch
with bits 12-15 of the Y coordinates set, while normally only the lower 12
are used.
Detect this and report a KEY_LEFTMETA press when this happens. Note for
now we only respond to the Y coordinate bits 12-15 containing 0x01, on some
tablets *without* a capacative button I've noticed these bits containing

Fix child node-lookup during probe, which ended up searching the whole
device tree depth-first starting at parent rather than just matching on
its children.
To make things worse, the parent node was prematurely freed, while the
child node was leaked.
