arch: Register fchmodat2, usually as syscall 452
This registers the new fchmodat2 syscall in most places as nuber 452, with alpha being the exception where it's 562. I found all these sites by grepping for fspick, which I assume has found me everything. - Fix KMSAN vs FORTIFY in strlcpy/strlcat (Alexander Potapenko) - Convert strreplace() to return string start (Andy Shevchenko) - Flexible array conversions (Arnd Bergmann, Wyes Karny, Kees Cook) - Add missing function prototypes seen with W=1 (Arnd Bergmann) - Fix strscpy() kerndoc typo (Arne Welzel) - Replace strlcpy() with strscpy() across many subsystems which were either Acked by respective maintainers or were trivial changes that went ignored for multiple weeks (Azeem Shaikh) - Remove unneeded cc-option test for UBSAN_TRAP (Nick Desaulniers) - Add KUnit tests for strcat()-family - Enable KUnit tests of FORTIFY wrappers under UML - Add more complete FORTIFY protections for strlcat() - Add missed disabling of FORTIFY for all arch purgatories. - Enable -fstrict-flex-arrays=3 globally - Tightening UBSAN_BOUNDS when using GCC - Improve checkpatch to check for strcpy, strncpy, and fake flex arrays - Improve use of const variables in FORTIFY - Add requested struct_size_t() helper for types not pointers - Add __counted_by macro for annotating flexible array size members -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJKBAABCgA0FiEEpcP2jyKd1g9yPm4TiXL039xtwCYFAmSbftQWHGtlZXNjb29r QGNocm9taXVtLm9yZwAKCRCJcvTf3G3AJj0MD/9X9jzJzCmsAU+yNldeoAzC84Sk GVU3RBxGcTNysL1gZXynkIgigw7DWc4htMGeSABHHwQRVP65JCH1Kw/VqIkyumbx 9LdX6IklMJb4pRT4PVU3azebV4eNmSjlur2UxMeW54Czm91/6I8RHbJOyAPnOUmo 2oomGdP/hpEHtKR7hgy8Axc6w5ySwQixh2V5sVZG3VbvCS5WKTmTXbs6puuRT5hz iHt7v+7VtEg/Qf1W7J2oxfoghvVBsaRrSLrExWT/oZYh1ZxM7DsCAAoG/IsDgHGA 9LBXiRECgAFThbHVxLvvKZQMXdVk0i8iXLX43XMKC0wTA+NTyH7wlcQQ4RWNMuo8 sfA9Qm9gMArXaf64aymr3Uwn20Zan0391HdlbhOJZAE6v3PPJbleUnM58AzD2d3r 5Lz6AIFBxDImy+3f9iDWgacCT5/PkeiXTHzk9QnKhJyKKtRA58XJxj4q2+rPnGJP n4haXqoxD5FJbxdXiGKk31RS0U5HBug7wkOcUrTqDHUbc/QNU2b7dxTKUx+zYtCU uV5emPzpF4H4z+91WpO47n9gkMAfwV0lt9S2dwS8pxsgqctbmIan+Jgip7rsqZ2G OgLXBsb43eEs+6WgO8tVt/ZHYj9ivGMdrcNcsIfikzNs/xweUJ53k2xSEn2xEa5J cwANDmkL6QQK7yfeeg== =s0j1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'hardening-v6.5-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux Pull hardening updates from Kees Cook: "There are three areas of note: A bunch of strlcpy()->strscpy() conversions ended up living in my tree since they were either Acked by maintainers for me to carry, or got ignored for multiple weeks (and were trivial changes). The compiler option '-fstrict-flex-arrays=3' has been enabled globally, and has been in -next for the entire devel cycle. This changes compiler diagnostics (though mainly just -Warray-bounds which is disabled) and potential UBSAN_BOUNDS and FORTIFY _warning_ coverage. In other words, there are no new restrictions, just potentially new warnings. Any new FORTIFY warnings we've seen have been fixed (usually in their respective subsystem trees). sh: Replace all non-returning strlcpy with strscpy
strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated [1]. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely [2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy(). No return values were used, so direct replacement is safe. sh: Avoid using IRQ0 on SH3 and SH4
IRQ0 is no longer returned by platform_get_irq() and its ilk -- they now
return -EINVAL instead. However, the kernel code supporting SH3/4-based
SoCs still maps the IRQ #s starting at 0 -- modify that code to start the
IRQ #s from 16 instead.
The patch should mostly affect the AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A boards as they
indeed are using IRQ0 for the SMSC911x compatible Ethernet chip.

sh: sq: Fix incorrect element size for allocating bitmap buffer
The Store Queue code allocates a bitmap buffer with the size of
multiple of sizeof(long) in sq_api_init(). While the buffer size
is calculated correctly, the code uses the wrong element size to
allocate the buffer which results in the allocated bitmap buffer
being too small.
Fix this by allocating the buffer with kcalloc() with element size
sizeof(long) instead of kzalloc() whose elements size defaults to
sizeof(char).

sh: nmi_debug: fix return value of __setup handler
__setup() handlers should return 1 to obsolete_checksetup() in
init/main.c to indicate that the boot option has been handled.
A return of 0 causes the boot option/value to be listed as an Unknown
kernel parameter and added to init's (limited) argument or environment
strings. Also, error return codes don't mean anything to
obsolete_checksetup() -- only non-zero (usually 1) or zero.
So return 1 from nmi_debug_setup().

sched/idle: Mark arch_cpu_idle_dead() __noreturn
Before commit 076cbf5d2163 ("x86/xen: don't let xen_pv_play_dead() return"), in Xen, when a previously offlined CPU was brought back online, it unexpectedly resumed execution where it left off in the middle of the idle loop. There were some hacks to make that work, but the behavior was surprising as do_idle() doesn't expect an offlined CPU to return from the dead (in arch_cpu_idle_dead()). Now that Xen has been fixed, and the arch-specific implementations of arch_cpu_idle_dead() also don't return, give it a __noreturn attribute. This will cause the compiler to complain if an arch-specific implementation might return. It also improves code generation for both caller and callee. Also fixes the following warning: vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: do_idle+0x25f: unreachable instruction Reported-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@kernel.org> Tested-by: Paul E. arch/idle: Change arch_cpu_idle() behavior: always exit with IRQs disabled
Current arch_cpu_idle() is called with IRQs disabled, but will return with IRQs enabled. However, the very first thing the generic code does after calling arch_cpu_idle() is raw_local_irq_disable(). This means that architectures that can idle with IRQs disabled end up doing a pointless 'enable-disable' dance. Therefore, push this IRQ disabling into the idle function, meaning that those architectures can avoid the pointless IRQ state flipping. Pull kernel hardening updates from Kees Cook:
"Most of the collected changes here are fixes across the tree for
various hardening features (details noted below).
The most notable new feature here is the addition of the memcpy()
overflow warning (under CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE), which is the next step
on the path to killing the common class of "trivially detectable"
buffer overflow conditions (i.e. on arrays with sizes known at compile
time) that have resulted in many exploitable vulnerabilities over the
years (e.g. BleedingTooth).
This feature is expected to still have some undiscovered false
positives. It's been in -next for a full development cycle and all the
reported false positives have been fixed in their respective trees.
All the known-bad code patterns we could find with Coccinelle are also
either fixed in their respective trees or in flight.

kbuild: use obj-y instead extra-y for objects placed at the head
The objects placed at the head of vmlinux need special treatments: - arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile adds them to head-y in order to place them before other archives in the linker command line. - arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile adds them to extra-y instead of obj-y to avoid them going into built-in.a. This commit gets rid of the latter. Create vmlinux.a to collect all the objects that are unconditionally linked to vmlinux. The objects listed in head-y are moved to the head of vmlinux.a by using 'ar m'. With this, arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile can consistently use obj-y for builtin objects. There is no *.o that is directly linked to vmlinux. Drop unneeded code in scripts/clang-tools/gen_compile_commands.py. $(AR) mPi needs 'T' to workaround the llvm-ar bug. The fix was suggested by Nathan Chancellor [1]. asm-generic: Conditionally enable do_softirq_own_stack() via Kconfig.
Remove the CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT symbol from the ifdef around do_softirq_own_stack() and move it to Kconfig instead. Enable softirq stacks based on SOFTIRQ_ON_OWN_STACK which depends on HAVE_SOFTIRQ_ON_OWN_STACK and its default value is set to !PREEMPT_RT. sh: Use do_kernel_power_off()
Kernel now supports chained power-off handlers. Use do_kernel_power_off() that invokes chained power-off handlers. It also invokes legacy pm_power_off() for now, which will be removed once all drivers will be converted to the new sys-off API. fork: Generalize PF_IO_WORKER handling
Add fn and fn_arg members into struct kernel_clone_args and test for them in copy_thread (instead of testing for PF_KTHREAD | PF_IO_WORKER). This allows any task that wants to be a user space task that only runs in kernel mode to use this functionality. The code on x86 is an exception and still retains a PF_KTHREAD test because x86 unlikely everything else handles kthreads slightly differently than user space tasks that start with a function. The functions that created tasks that start with a function have been updated to set ".fn" and ".fn_arg" instead of ".stack" and ".stack_size". These functions are fork_idle(), create_io_thread(), kernel_thread(), and user_mode_thread(). Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220506141512.516114-4-ebiederm@xmission.com Signed-off-by: "Eric W. fork: Pass struct kernel_clone_args into copy_thread
With io_uring we have started supporting tasks that are for most purposes user space tasks that exclusively run code in kernel mode. The kernel task that exec's init and tasks that exec user mode helpers are also user mode tasks that just run kernel code until they call kernel execve. Pass kernel_clone_args into copy_thread so these oddball tasks can be supported more cleanly and easily. v2: Fix spelling of kenrel_clone_args on h8300 Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220506141512.516114-2-ebiederm@xmission.com Signed-off-by: "Eric W. vmcore: convert copy_oldmem_page() to take an iov_iter
Patch series "Convert vmcore to use an iov_iter", v5. For some reason several people have been sending bad patches to fix compiler warnings in vmcore recently. Here's how it should be done. Compile-tested only on x86. As noted in the first patch, s390 should take this conversion a bit further, but I'm not inclined to do that work myself. This patch (of 3): Instead of passing in a 'buf' and 'userbuf' argument, pass in an iov_iter. s390 needs more work to pass the iov_iter down further, or refactor, but I'd be more comfortable if someone who can test on s390 did that work. It's more convenient to convert the whole of read_from_oldmem() to take an iov_iter at the same time, so rename it to read_from_oldmem_iter() and add a temporary read_from_oldmem() wrapper that creates an iov_iter. ptrace: Cleanups for v5.18
This set of changes removes tracehook.h, moves modification of all of the ptrace fields inside of siglock to remove races, adds a missing permission check to ptrace.c The removal of tracehook.h is quite significant as it has been a major source of confusion in recent years. Much of that confusion was around task_work and TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL (which I have now decoupled making the semantics clearer). For people who don't know tracehook.h is a vestiage of an attempt to implement uprobes like functionality that was never fully merged, and was later superseeded by uprobes when uprobes was merged. For many years now we have been removing what tracehook functionaly a little bit at a time. asm-generic updates for 5.18
There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. This was already gone from all major architectures, but now we can finally remove it everywhere, which loses some particularly tricky and error-prone code. There is a small merge conflict against a parisc cleanup, the solution is to use their new version. - The nds32 architecture ends its tenure in the Linux kernel. The hardware is still used and the code is in reasonable shape, but the mainline port is not actively maintained any more, as all remaining users are thought to run vendor kernels that would never be updated to a future release. There are some obvious conflicts against changes to the removed files. - A series from Masahiro Yamada cleans up some of the uapi header files to pass the compile-time checks. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmI69BsACgkQmmx57+YA GNn/zA//f4d5VTT0ThhRxRWTu9BdThGHoB8TUcY7iOhbsWu0X/913NItRC3UeWNl IdmisaXgVtirg1dcC2pWUmrcHdoWOCEGfK4+Zr2NhSWfuZDWvODHK9pGWk4WLnhe cQgUNBvIuuAMryGtrOBwHPO4TpfCyy2ioeVP36ZfcsWXdDxTrqfaq/56mk3sxIP6 sUTk1UEjut9NG4C9xIIvcSU50R3l6LryQE/H9kyTLtaSvfvTOvprcVYCq0GPmSzo DtQ1Wwa9zbJ+4EqoMiP5RrgQwWvOTg2iRByLU8ytwlX3e/SEF0uihvMv1FQbL8zG G8RhGUOKQSEhaBfc3lIkm8GpOVPh0uHzB6zhn7daVmAWtazRD2Nu59BMjipa+ims a8Z58iHH7jRAnKeEkVZqXKb1CEiUxaQx/IeVPzN4QlwMhDtwrI76LY7ZJ1zCqTGY ENG0yRLav1XselYBslOYXGtOEWcY5EZPWqLyWbp4P9vz2g0Fe0gZxoIOvPmNQc89 QnfXpCt7vm/DGkyO255myu08GOLeMkisVqUIzLDB9avlym5mri7T7vk9abBa2YyO CRpTL5gl1/qKPWuH1UI5mvhT+sbbBE2SUHSuy84btns39ZKKKynwCtdu+hSQkKLE h9pV30Gf1cLTD4JAE0RWlUgOmbBLVp34loTOexQj4MrLM1noOnw= =vtCN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. drivers/base/node: consolidate node device subsystem initialization in node_dev_init()
... and call node_dev_init() after memory_dev_init() from driver_init(), so before any of the existing arch/subsys calls. All online nodes should be known at that point: early during boot, arch code determines node and zone ranges and sets the relevant nodes online; usually this happens in setup_arch(). This is in line with memory_dev_init(), which initializes the memory device subsystem and creates all memory block devices. Similar to memory_dev_init(), panic() if anything goes wrong, we don't want to continue with such basic initialization errors. The important part is that node_dev_init() gets called after memory_dev_init() and after cpu_dev_init(), but before any of the relevant archs call register_cpu() to register the new cpu device under the node device. The latter should be the case for the current users of topology_init(). resume_user_mode: Move to resume_user_mode.h
Move set_notify_resume and tracehook_notify_resume into resume_user_mode.h. While doing that rename tracehook_notify_resume to resume_user_mode_work. Update all of the places that included tracehook.h for these functions to include resume_user_mode.h instead. Update all of the callers of tracehook_notify_resume to call resume_user_mode_work.
