ΕΛΕΝΗ reported that ksmbd binds to the IPV6 wildcard (::) by default for
ipv4 and ipv6 binding. So IPV4 connections are successful only when
the Linux system parameter bindv6only is set to 0 [default value].
If this parameter is set to 1, then the ipv6 wildcard only represents
any IPV6 address. Samba creates different sockets for ipv4 and ipv6
by default. This patch off sk_ipv6only to support IPV4/IPV6 connections
without creating two sockets.

Now that cifs is using netfslib for its VM interaction, it only sees I/O in
terms of iov_iter iterators and does not see pages or folios. This makes
large multipage folios transparent to cifs and so we can turn on multipage
folios on regular files.

Make the cifs filesystem use netfslib to handle reading and writing on
behalf of cifs. The changes include:
(1) Various read_iter/write_iter type functions are turned into wrappers
around netfslib API functions or are pointed directly at those
functions:
cifs_file_direct{,_nobrl}_ops switch to use
netfs_unbuffered_read_iter and netfs_unbuffered_write_iter.

Provide implementation of the netfslib hooks that will be used by netfslib
to ask cifs to set up and perform operations. Of particular note are
(*) cifs_clamp_length() - This is used to negotiate the size of the next
subrequest in a read request, taking into account the credit available
and the rsize. The credits are attached to the subrequest.
(*) cifs_req_issue_read() - This is used to issue a subrequest that has
been set up and clamped.
(*) cifs_prepare_write() - This prepares to fill a subrequest by picking a
channel, reopening the file and requesting credits so that we can set
the maximum size of the subrequest and also sets the maximum number of
segments if we're doing RDMA.
(*) cifs_issue_write() - This releases any unneeded credits and issues an
asynchronous data write for the contiguous slice of file covered by
the subrequest. This should possibly be folded in to all
->async_writev() ops and that called directly.
(*) cifs_begin_writeback() - This gets the cached writable handle through
which we do writeback (this does not affect writethrough, unbuffered
or direct writes).
At this point, cifs is not wired up to actually *use* netfslib; that will
be done in a subsequent patch.

After commit 2c7d399e55 ("smb: client: reuse file lease key in
compound operations") the client started reusing lease keys for
rename, unlink and set path size operations to prevent it from
breaking its own leases and thus causing unnecessary lease breaks to
same connection.
The implementation relies on positive dentries and
cifsInodeInfo::lease_granted to decide whether reusing lease keys for
the compound requests. cifsInodeInfo::lease_granted was introduced by
commit 0ab95c2510 ("Defer close only when lease is enabled.") to
indicate whether lease caching is granted for a specific file, but
that can only happen until file is open, so
cifsInodeInfo::lease_granted was left uninitialised in ->alloc_inode
and then client started sending random lease keys for files that
hadn't any leases.
This fixes the following test case against samba:
mount.cifs //srv/share /mnt/1 -o ...,nosharesock
mount.cifs //srv/share /mnt/2 -o ...,nosharesock

During mount, cifs_mount_get_tcon() gets a tcon resource connection record
and then attaches an fscache volume cookie to it. However, it does this
irrespective of whether or not the tcon returned from cifs_get_tcon() is a
new record or one that's already in use. This leads to a warning about a
volume cookie collision and a leaked volume cookie because tcon->fscache
gets reset.
Fix this be adding a mutex and a "we've already tried this" flag and only
doing it once for the lifetime of the tcon.
[!] Note: Looking at cifs_mount_get_tcon(), a more general solution may
actually be required. Reacquiring the volume cookie isn't the only thing
that function does: it also partially reinitialises the tcon record without
any locking - which may cause live filesystem ops already using the tcon
through a previous mount to malfunction.
This can be reproduced simply by something like:
mount //example.com/test /xfstest.test -o user=shares,pass=xxx,fsc
mount //example.com/test /mnt -o user=shares,pass=xxx,fsc

There are various use cases that are becoming more common in which password
changes are scheduled on a server(s) periodically but the clients connected
to this server need to stay connected (even in the face of brief network
reconnects) due to mounts which can not be easily unmounted and mounted at
will, and servers that do password rotation do not always have the ability
to tell the clients exactly when to the new password will be effective,
so add support for an alt password ("password2=") on mount (and also
remount) so that we can anticipate the upcoming change to the server
without risking breaking existing mounts.
An alternative would have been to use the kernel keyring for this but the
processes doing the reconnect do not have access to the keyring but do
have access to the ses structure.

When we're engaged in local caching of a cifs filesystem, we cannot perform
caching of a partially written cache granule unless we can read the rest of
the granule. This can result in unexpected access errors being reported to
the user.
Fix this by the following: if a file is opened O_WRONLY locally, but the
mount was given the "-o fsc" flag, try first opening the remote file with
GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE and if that returns -EACCES, try dropping the
GENERIC_READ and doing the open again. If that last succeeds, invalidate
the cache for that file as for O_DIRECT.

The UAF bug is due to smb2_reconnect_server() accessing a session that
is already being teared down by another thread that is executing
__cifs_put_smb_ses(). This can happen when (a) the client has
connection to the server but no session or (b) another thread ends up
setting @ses->ses_status again to something different than
SES_EXITING.
To fix this, we need to make sure to unconditionally set
@ses->ses_status to SES_EXITING and prevent any other threads from
setting a new status while we're still tearing it down.
The following can be reproduced by adding some delay to right after
the ipc is freed in __cifs_put_smb_ses() - which will give
smb2_reconnect_server() worker a chance to run and then accessing
@ses->ipc:

strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings
[1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string
interfaces.
In cifssmb.c:
Using strncpy with a length argument equal to strlen(src) is generally
dangerous because it can cause string buffers to not be NUL-terminated.
In this case, however, there was extra effort made to ensure the buffer
was NUL-terminated via a manual NUL-byte assignment. In an effort to rid
the kernel of strncpy() use, let's swap over to using strscpy() which
guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer.
To handle the case where ea_name is NULL, let's use the ?: operator to
substitute in an empty string, thereby allowing strscpy to still
NUL-terminate the destintation string.
Interesting note: this flex array buffer may go on to also have some
value encoded after the NUL-termination:
| if (ea_value_len)
| memcpy(parm_data->list.name + name_len + 1,
| ea_value, ea_value_len);
Now for smb2ops.c and smb2transport.c:
Both of these cases are simple, strncpy() is used to copy string
literals which have a length less than the destination buffer's size. We
can simply swap in the new 2-argument version of strscpy() introduced in
Commit e6584c3964 ("string: Allow 2-argument strscpy()").

fscache emits a lot of duplicate cookie warnings with cifs because the
index key for the fscache cookies does not include everything that the
cifs_find_inode() function does. The latter is used with iget5_locked() to
distinguish between inodes in the local inode cache.
Fix this by adding the creation time and file type to the fscache cookie
key.
Additionally, add a couple of comments to note that if one is changed the
other must be also.

Yes, yes, I know the slab people were planning on going slow and letting
every subsystem fight this thing on their own. But let's just rip off
the band-aid and get it over and done with. I don't want to see a
number of unnecessary pull requests just to get rid of a flag that no
longer has any meaning.
This was mainly done with a couple of 'sed' scripts and then some manual
cleanup of the end result.

Pull file locking updates from Christian Brauner:
"A few years ago struct file_lock_context was added to allow for
separate lists to track different types of file locks instead of using
a singly-linked list for all of them.
Now leases no longer need to be tracked using struct file_lock.
However, a lot of the infrastructure is identical for leases and locks
so separating them isn't trivial.
This splits a group of fields used by both file locks and leases into
a new struct file_lock_core. The new core struct is embedded in struct
file_lock. Coccinelle was used to convert a lot of the callers to deal
with the move, with the remaining 25% or so converted by hand.
Afterwards several internal functions in fs/locks.c are made to work
with struct file_lock_core. Ultimately this allows to split struct
file_lock into struct file_lock and struct file_lease. The file lease
APIs are then converted to take struct file_lease"

cifs writeback doesn't correctly handle the case where
cifs_extend_writeback() hits a point where it is considering an additional
folio, but this would overrun the wsize - at which point it drops out of
the xarray scanning loop and calls xas_pause(). The problem is that
xas_pause() advances the loop counter - thereby skipping that page.
What needs to happen is for xas_reset() to be called any time we decide we
don't want to process the page we're looking at, but rather send the
request we are building and start a new one.
Fix this by copying and adapting the netfslib writepages code as a
temporary measure, with cifs writeback intending to be offloaded to
netfslib in the near future.
This also fixes the issue with the use of filemap_get_folios_tag() causing
retry of a bunch of pages which the extender already dealt with.
This can be tested by creating, say, a 64K file somewhere not on cifs
(otherwise copy-offload may get underfoot), mounting a cifs share with a
wsize of 64000, copying the file to it and then comparing the original file
and the copy:
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/tmp/64K bs=64k count=1
mount //192.168.6.1/test /mnt -o user=...,pass=...,wsize=64000
cp /tmp/64K /mnt/64K
cmp /tmp/64K /mnt/64K
Without the fix, the cmp fails at position 64000 (or shortly thereafter).

There is a shortcoming in the current implementation of the file
lease mechanism exposed when the lease keys were attempted to be
reused for unlink, rename and set_path_size operations for a client. As
per MS-SMB2, lease keys are associated with the file name. Linux smb
client maintains lease keys with the inode. If the file has any hardlinks,
it is possible that the lease for a file be wrongly reused for an
operation on the hardlink or vice versa. In these cases, the mentioned
compound operations fail with STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER.
This patch adds a fallback to the old mechanism of not sending any
lease with these compound operations if the request with lease key fails
with STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER.
Resending the same request without lease key should not hurt any
functionality, but might impact performance especially in cases where
the error is not because of the usage of wrong lease key and we might
end up doing an extra roundtrip.

When a file/dentry has been deleted before closing all its open
handles, currently, closing them can add them to the deferred
close list. This can lead to problems in creating file with the
same name when the file is re-created before the deferred close
completes. This issue was seen while reusing a client's already
existing lease on a file for compound operations and xfstest 591
failed because of the deferred close handle that remained valid
even after the file was deleted and was being reused to create a
file with the same name. The server in this case returns an error
on open with STATUS_DELETE_PENDING. Recreating the file would
fail till the deferred handles are closed (duration specified in
closetimeo).
This patch fixes the issue by flagging all open handles for the
deleted file (file path to be precise) by setting
status_file_deleted to true in the cifsFileInfo structure. As per
the information classes specified in MS-FSCC, SMB2 query info
response from the server has a DeletePending field, set to true
to indicate that deletion has been requested on that file. If
this is the case, flag the open handles for this file too.
When doing close in cifs_close for each of these handles, check the
value of this boolean field and do not defer close these handles
if the corresponding filepath has been deleted.

Currently, when a rename, unlink or set path size compound operation
is requested on a file that has a lot of dirty pages to be written
to the server, we do not send the lease key for these requests. As a
result, the server can assume that this request is from a new client, and
send a lease break notification to the same client, on the same
connection. As a response to the lease break, the client can consume
several credits to write the dirty pages to the server. Depending on the
server's credit grant implementation, the server can stop granting more
credits to this connection, and this can cause a deadlock (which can only
be resolved when the lease timer on the server expires).
One of the problems here is that the client is sending no lease key,
even if it has a lease for the file. This patch fixes the problem by
reusing the existing lease key on the file for rename, unlink and set path
size compound operations so that the client does not break its own lease.
A very trivial example could be a set of commands by a client that
maintains open handle (for write) to a file and then tries to copy the
contents of that file to another one, eg.,
tail -f /dev/null > myfile &
mv myfile myfile2
Presently, the network capture on the client shows that the move (or
rename) would trigger a lease break on the same client, for the same file.
With the lease key reused, the lease break request-response overhead is
eliminated, thereby reducing the roundtrips performed for this set of
operations.
The patch fixes the bug described above and also provides perf benefit.

Changes to allocation size are approximated for extending writes of cached
files until the server returns the actual value (on SMB3 close or query info
for example), but it was setting the estimated value for number of blocks
to larger than the file size even if the file is likely sparse which
breaks various xfstests (e.g. generic/129, 130, 221, 228).
When i_size and i_blocks are updated in write completion do not increase
allocation size more than what was written (rounded up to 512 bytes).

There are cases where a session is disconnected and password has changed
on the server (or expired) for this user and this currently can not
be fixed without unmount and mounting again. This patch allows
remount to change the password (for the non Kerberos case, Kerberos
ticket refresh is handled differently) when the session is disconnected
and the user can not reconnect due to still using old password.
Future patches should also allow us to setup the keyring (cifscreds)
to have an "alternate password" so we would be able to change
the password before the session drops (without the risk of races
between when the password changes and the disconnect occurs -
ie cases where the old password is still needed because the new
password has not fully rolled out to all servers yet).

In cases of large directories, the readdir operation may span multiple
round trips to retrieve contents. This introduces a potential race
condition in case of concurrent write and readdir operations. If the
readdir operation initiates before a write has been processed by the
server, it may update the file size attribute to an older value.
Address this issue by avoiding file size updates from readdir when we
have read/write lease.
Scenario:
1) process1: open dir xyz
2) process1: readdir instance 1 on xyz
3) process2: create file.txt for write
4) process2: write x bytes to file.txt
5) process2: close file.txt
6) process2: open file.txt for read
7) process1: readdir 2 - overwrites file.txt inode size to 0
8) process2: read contents of file.txt - bug, short read with 0 bytes

[ More explanations for people who aren't familiar with the vagaries of
RCU path walking: most of it is hidden from filesystems, but if a
filesystem actively participates in the low-level path walking it
needs to make sure the fields involved in that walk are RCU-safe.
That "actively participate in low-level path walking" includes things
like having its own ->d_hash()/->d_compare() routines, or by having
its own directory permission function that doesn't just use the common
helpers. Having a ->d_revalidate() function will also have this issue.
Note that instead of making everything RCU safe you can also choose to
abort the RCU pathwalk if your operation cannot be done safely under
RCU, but that obviously comes with a performance penalty. One common
pattern is to allow the simple cases under RCU, and abort only if you
need to do something more complicated.
So not everything needs to be RCU-safe, and things like the inode etc
that the VFS itself maintains obviously already are. But these fixes
tend to be about properly RCU-delaying things like ->s_fs_info that
are maintained by the filesystem and that got potentially released too
early. - Linus ]

The conversion to netfs in the 6.3 kernel caused a regression when
maximum write size is set by the server to an unexpected value which is
not a multiple of 4096 (similarly if the user overrides the maximum
write size by setting mount parm "wsize", but sets it to a value that
is not a multiple of 4096). When negotiated write size is not a
multiple of 4096 the netfs code can skip the end of the final

This section of code is being rewritten/removed due to a large
netfs change, but until that point (ie for the 6.3 kernel until now)
we can not support non-standard maximum write sizes.
Add a warning if a user specifies a wsize on mount that is not

round down the maximum write size if the server negotiates a value
that is not a multiple of 4096 (we also have to check to make sure that
we do not round it down to zero).

File open requests made to the server contain a
CreateGuid, which is used by the server to identify
the open request. If the same request needs to be
replayed, it needs to be sent with the same CreateGuid
in the durable handle v2 context.
Without doing so, we could end up leaking handles on
the server when:
1. multichannel is used AND
2. connection goes down, but not for all channels
This is because the replayed open request would have a
new CreateGuid and the server will treat this as a new
request and open a new handle.
This change fixes this by reusing the existing create_guid

In this loop, we step through the buffer and after each item we check
if the size_left is greater than the minimum size we need. However,
the problem is that "bytes_left" is type ssize_t while sizeof() is type
size_t. That means that because of type promotion, the comparison is
done as an unsigned and if we have negative bytes left the loop
continues instead of ending.

Add a new struct file_lease and move the lease-specific fields from
struct file_lock to it. Convert the appropriate API calls to take
struct file_lease instead, and convert the callers to use them.

With the introduction of SMB2_OP_QUERY_WSL_EA, the client may now send
5 commands in a single compound request in order to query xattrs from
potential WSL reparse points, which should be fine as we currently
allow up to 5 PDUs in a single compound request. However, if
encryption is enabled (e.g. 'seal' mount option) or enforced by the
server, current MAX_COMPOUND(5) won't be enough as we require an extra
PDU for the transform header.
Fix this by increasing MAX_COMPOUND to 7 and, while we're at it, add
an WARN_ON_ONCE() and return -EIO instead of -ENOMEM in case we
attempt to send a compound request that couldn't include the extra
transform header.

After the interface selection policy change to do a weighted
round robin, each iface maintains a weight_fulfilled. When the
weight_fulfilled reaches the total weight for the iface, we know
that the weights can be reset and ifaces can be allocated from
scratch again.
During channel allocation failures on a particular channel,
weight_fulfilled is not incremented. If a few interfaces are
inactive, we could end up in a situation where the active
interfaces are all allocated for the total_weight, and inactive
ones are all that remain. This can cause a situation where
no more channels can be allocated further.
This change fixes it by increasing weight_fulfilled, even when
channel allocation failure happens. This could mean that if
there are temporary failures in channel allocation, the iface
weights may not strictly be adhered to. But that's still okay.

In order to scale down the channels, the following sequence
of operations happen:
1. server struct is marked for terminate
2. the channel is deallocated in the ses->chans array
3. at a later point the cifsd thread actually terminates the server
Between 2 and 3, there can be calls to find the channel for
a server struct. When that happens, there can be an ugly warning
that's logged. But this is expected.

Following a successful cifs_tree_connect, we have the code
to scale up/down the number of channels in the session.
However, it is not protected by a lock today.
As a result, this code can be executed by several processes
that select the same channel. The core functions handle this
well, as they pick chan_lock. However, we've seen cases where
smb2_reconnect throws some warnings.
To fix that, this change introduces a flags bitmap inside the
cifs_ses structure. A new flag type is used to ensure that
only one process enters this section at any time.

Similar to the rest of the commands, this is a change

MS-SMB2 states that the header flag SMB2_FLAGS_REPLAY_OPERATION
needs to be set when a command needs to be retried, so that
the server is aware that this is a replay for an operation that
appeared before.
This can be very important, for example, for state changing
operations and opens which get retried following a reconnect;
since the client maybe unaware of the status of the previous
open.
This is particularly important for multichannel scenario, since
disconnection of one connection does not mean that the session
is lost. The requests can be replayed on another channel.
This change also makes use of exponential back-off before replays
and also limits the number of retries to "retrans" mount option
value.
Also, this change does not modify the read/write codepath.

cases, the send request or receive response may result in
network errors, which we're now mapping to -ECONNABORTED.

When the network stack returns various errors, we today bubble
up the error to the user (in case of soft mounts).
This change translates all network errors except -EINTR and

"user" allocation, and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE ends up emitting a

Merge tag 'vfs-6.8.netfs' of gitolite.kernel.org:pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs
Pull netfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"This extends the netfs helper library that network filesystems can use
to replace their own implementations. Both afs and 9p are ported. cifs
is ready as well but the patches are way bigger and will be routed
separately once this is merged. That will remove lots of code as well.
The overal goal is to get high-level I/O and knowledge of the page
cache and ouf of the filesystem drivers. This includes knowledge about
the existence of pages and folios
The pull request converts afs and 9p. This removes about 800 lines of
code from afs and 300 from 9p. For 9p it is now possible to do writes
in larger than a page chunks. Additionally, multipage folio support
can be turned on for 9p. Separate patches exist for cifs removing
another 2000+ lines. I've included detailed information in the
individual pulls I took.
Summary:
- Add NFS-style (and Ceph-style) locking around DIO vs buffered I/O
calls to prevent these from happening at the same time.
- Support for direct and unbuffered I/O.
- Support for write-through caching in the page cache.
- O_*SYNC and RWF_*SYNC writes use write-through rather than writing
to the page cache and then flushing afterwards.
- Support for write-streaming.
- Support for write grouping.
- Skip reads for which the server could only return zeros or EOF.
- The fscache module is now part of the netfs library and the
corresponding maintainer entry is updated.
- Some helpers from the fscache subsystem are renamed to mark them as
belonging to the netfs library.
- Follow-up fixes for the netfs library.
- Follow-up fixes for the 9p conversion"

iface_last_update was an unused field when it was introduced.
Later, when we had periodic update of server interface list,
this field was used regularly to decide when to update next.
However, with the new logic of updating the interfaces, it
becomes crucial that this field be updated whenever
parse_server_interfaces runs successfully.
This change updates this field when either the server does
not support query of interfaces; so that we do not query
the interfaces repeatedly. It also updates the field when
the function reaches the end.

Some servers like Azure SMB servers always advertise multichannel
capability in server capabilities list. Such servers return error
STATUS_NOT_IMPLEMENTED for ioctl calls to query server interfaces,
and expect clients to consider that as a sign that they do not support
multichannel.
We already handled this at mount time. Soon after the tree connect,
we query server interfaces. And when server returned STATUS_NOT_IMPLEMENTED,
we kept interface list as empty. When cifs_try_adding_channels gets
called, it would not find any interfaces, so will not add channels.
For the case where an active multichannel mount exists, and multichannel
is disabled by such a server, this change will now allow the client
to disable secondary channels on the mount. It will check the return
status of query server interfaces call soon after a tree reconnect.
If the return status is EOPNOTSUPP, then instead of the check to add
more channels, we'll disable the secondary channels instead.
For better code reuse, this change also moves the common code for
disabling multichannel to a helper function.

We have several places in the code where we treat the
error -EAGAIN very differently. Some code retry for
arbitrary number of times.
Introducing this new mount option named "retrans", so
that all these handlers of -EAGAIN can retry a fixed
number of times. This applies only to soft mounts.

Today, we schedule periodic query for server interfaces
once every 10 minutes once a tree connection has been
established. Recent change to handle disabling of
multichannel disabled this delayed work.
This change reenables it following a reconnect, and
the server advertises multichannel.

Parse owner/group when creating special files and symlinks under

The data offset for the SMB3.1.1 POSIX create context will always be
8-byte aligned so having the check 'noff + nlen >= doff' in

+ nlen == doff.

Today, the tree connect and disconnect requests are
sent on the primary channel only. However, the new
multichannel logic allows the session to remain active
even if one of the channels are alive. So a tree connect
can now be triggered during a reconnect on any of
its channels.
This change changes tcon and tdis calls to pick an
active channel instead of the first one.

open_cached_dir today selects ses->server a.k.a primary channel
to send requests. When multichannel is used, the primary
channel maybe down. So it does not make sense to rely only
on that channel.
This fix makes this function pick a channel with the standard
helper function cifs_pick_channel.

3. smb2 create with v1 lease(RH, LEASE1 key)

Pull vfs rw updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains updates from Amir for read-write backing file helpers
for stacking filesystems such as overlayfs:
- Fanotify is currently in the process of introducing pre content
events. Roughly, a new permission event will be added indicating
that it is safe to write to the file being accessed. These events
are used by hierarchical storage managers to e.g., fill the content
of files on first access.
During that work we noticed that our current permission checking is
inconsistent in rw_verify_area() and remap_verify_area().
Especially in the splice code permission checking is done multiple
times. For example, one time for the whole range and then again for
partial ranges inside the iterator.
In addition, we mostly do permission checking before we call
file_start_write() except for a few places where we call it after.
For pre-content events we need such permission checking to be done
before file_start_write(). So this is a nice reason to clean this
all up.
After this series, all permission checking is done before
file_start_write().
As part of this cleanup we also massaged the splice code a bit. We
got rid of a few helpers because we are alredy drowning in special
read-write helpers. We also cleaned up the return types for splice
helpers.
- Introduce generic read-write helpers for backing files. This lifts
some overlayfs code to common code so it can be used by the FUSE
passthrough work coming in over the next cycles. Make Amir and
Miklos the maintainers for this new subsystem of the vfs"

from the list only when the last refcount is dropped.
i.e. in release_iface. However, this can result in undercounting
of refcount if the server stops advertising interfaces (which
Azure SMB server does).
This change puts parse_server_interfaces in full charge of

Once the server disables multichannel for an active multichannel
session, on the following reconnect, the client would reduce
the number of channels to 1. However, it could be the case that
the tree connect was active on one of these disabled channels.
This results in an unrecoverable state.
This change fixes that by making sure that whenever a channel
is being terminated, the session and tcon are marked for
reconnect too. This could mean a few redundant tree connect
calls to the server, but considering that this is not a frequent
event, we should be okay.

* tag '6.7rc7-smb3-srv-fix' of git://git.samba.org/ksmbd:
ksmbd: fix slab-out-of-bounds in smb_strndup_from_utf16()
Track the file position above which the server is not expected to have any
data (the "zero point") and preemptively assume that we can satisfy
requests by filling them with zeroes locally rather than attempting to
download them if they're over that line - even if we've written data back
to the server. Assume that any data that was written back above that
position is held in the local cache. Note that we have to split requests
that straddle the line.
Make use of this to optimise away some reads from the server. We need to
set the zero point in the following circumstances:
(1) When we see an extant remote inode and have no cache for it, we set
the zero_point to i_size.
(2) On local inode creation, we set zero_point to 0.
(3) On local truncation down, we reduce zero_point to the new i_size if
the new i_size is lower.
(4) On local truncation up, we don't change zero_point.
(5) On local modification, we don't change zero_point.
(6) On remote invalidation, we set zero_point to the new i_size.
(7) If stored data is discarded from the pagecache or culled from fscache,
we must set zero_point above that if the data also got written to the
server.
(8) If dirty data is written back to the server, but not fscache, we must
set zero_point above that.
(9) If a direct I/O write is made, set zero_point above that.
Assuming the above, any read from the server at or above the zero_point
position will return all zeroes.
The zero_point value can be stored in the cache, provided the above rules
are applied to it by any code that culls part of the local cache.

Make netfslib pass the maximum length to the ->prepare_write() op to tell
the cache how much it can expand the length of a write to. This allows a
write to the server at the end of a file to be limited to a few bytes
whilst writing an entire block to the cache (something required by direct
I/O).

Move the resource pinning-for-writeback from fscache code to netfslib code.
This is used to keep a cache backing object pinned whilst we have dirty
pages on the netfs inode in the pagecache such that VM writeback will be
able to reach it.
Whilst we're at it, switch the parameters of netfs_unpin_writeback() to
match ->write_inode() so that it can be used for that directly.
Note that this mechanism could be more generically useful than that for
network filesystems. Quite often they have to keep around other resources
(e.g. authentication tokens or network connections) until the writeback is
complete.

cifs_chan_update_iface is meant to check and update the server
interface used for a channel when the existing server interface
is no longer available.
So far, this handler had the code to remove an interface entry
even if a new candidate interface is not available. Allowing
this leads to several corner cases to handle.
This change makes the logic much simpler by not deallocating
the current channel interface entry if a new interface is not
found to replace it with.

Commit 9b9c5bea0b ("cifs: do not return atime less than mtime") indicates
that in cifs, if atime is less than mtime, some apps will break.
Therefore, it introduce a function to compare this two variables in two
places where atime is updated. If atime is less than mtime, update it to
mtime.
However, the patch was handled incorrectly, resulting in atime and mtime
being exactly equal. A previous commit 69738cfdfa ("fs: cifs: Fix atime
update check vs mtime") fixed one place and forgot to fix another. Fix it.

The only caller of splice_file_range(), namely __ceph_copy_file_range()

Reconnect worker currently assumes that the server struct
is alive and only takes reference on the server if it needs
to call smb2_reconnect.
With the new ability to disable channels based on whether the
server has multichannel disabled, this becomes a problem when
we need to disable established channels. While disabling the
channels and deallocating the server, there could be reconnect
work that could not be cancelled (because it started).
This change forces the reconnect worker to unconditionally
take a reference on the server when it runs.
Also, this change now allows smb2_reconnect to know if it was
called by the reconnect worker. Based on this, the cifs_put_tcp_session
can decide whether it can cancel the reconnect work synchronously or not.

Fix a number of issues in the cifs filesystem implementation of the FICLONE
ioctl in cifs_remap_file_range(). This is analogous to the previously
fixed bug in cifs_file_copychunk_range() and can share the helper
functions.
Firstly, the invalidation of the destination range is handled incorrectly:
We shouldn't just invalidate the whole file as dirty data in the file may
get lost and we can't just call truncate_inode_pages_range() to invalidate
the destination range as that will erase parts of a partial folio at each
end whilst invalidating and discarding all the folios in the middle. We
need to force all the folios covering the range to be reloaded, but we
mustn't lose dirty data in them that's not in the destination range.
Further, we shouldn't simply round out the range to PAGE_SIZE at each end
as cifs should move to support multipage folios.
Secondly, there's an issue whereby a write may have extended the file
locally, but not have been written back yet. This can leaves the local
idea of the EOF at a later point than the server's EOF. If a clone request
is issued, this will fail on the server with STATUS_INVALID_VIEW_SIZE
(which gets translated to -EIO locally) if the clone source extends past
the server's EOF.
Fix this by:
(0) Flush the source region (already done). The flush does nothing and
the EOF isn't moved if the source region has no dirty data.
(1) Move the EOF to the end of the source region if it isn't already at
least at this point. If we can't do this, for instance if the server
doesn't support it, just flush the entire source file.
(2) Find the folio (if present) at each end of the range, flushing it and
increasing the region-to-be-invalidated to cover those in their
entirety.
(3) Fully discard all the folios covering the range as we want them to be
reloaded.
(4) Then perform the extent duplication.
Thirdly, set i_size after doing the duplicate_extents operation as this
value may be used by various things internally. stat() hides the issue
because setting ->time to 0 causes cifs_getatr() to revalidate the
attributes.
These were causing the cifs/001 xfstest to fail.

Fix the cifs filesystem implementations of FALLOC_FL_INSERT_RANGE, in
smb3_insert_range(), to set i_size after extending the file on the server
and before we do the copy to open the gap (as we don't clean up the EOF
marker if the copy fails).

We can't rely on FILE_STANDARD_INFORMATION::EndOfFile for reparse
points as they will be always zero. Set it to symlink target's length
as specified by POSIX.
This will make stat() family of syscalls return the correct st_size
for such files.

@cifs_sb->ctx->file_mode as we already do for the other special files.

... and fix the directory locking documentation and proof of correctness.
Holding ->s_vfs_rename_mutex *almost* prevents ->d_parent changes; the
case where we really don't want it is splicing the root of disconnected
tree to somewhere.
In other words, ->s_vfs_rename_mutex is sufficient to stabilize "X is an
ancestor of Y" only if X and Y are already in the same tree. Otherwise
it can go from false to true, and one can construct a deadlock on that.
Make lock_two_directories() report an error in such case and update the
callers of lock_rename()/lock_rename_child() to handle such errors.
And yes, such conditions are not impossible to create ;-/

op_state of lease should not be updated because client can send lease
break ack again. This patch fix smb2.lease.breaking2 test failure.
