init: consolidate prototypes in linux/init.h
The init/main.c file contains some extern declarations for functions defined in architecture code, and it defines some other functions that are called from architecture code with a custom prototype. Both of those result in warnings with 'make W=1': init/calibrate.c:261:37: error: no previous prototype for 'calibrate_delay_is_known' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] init/main.c:790:20: error: no previous prototype for 'mem_encrypt_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] init/main.c:792:20: error: no previous prototype for 'poking_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm64/kernel/irq.c:122:13: error: no previous prototype for 'init_IRQ' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm64/kernel/time.c:55:13: error: no previous prototype for 'time_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/x86/kernel/process.c:935:13: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_post_acpi_subsys_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] init/calibrate.c:261:37: error: no previous prototype for 'calibrate_delay_is_known' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] kernel/fork.c:991:20: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_task_cache_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] Add prototypes for all of these in include/linux/init.h or another appropriate header, and remove the duplicate declarations from architecture specific code. SMP cross-CPU function-call updates for v6.4:
- Remove diagnostics and adjust config for CSD lock diagnostics - Add a generic IPI-sending tracepoint, as currently there's no easy way to instrument IPI origins: it's arch dependent and for some major architectures it's not even consistently available. Driver core changes for 6.4-rc1
Here is the large set of driver core changes for 6.4-rc1. Once again, a busy development cycle, with lots of changes happening in the driver core in the quest to be able to move "struct bus" and "struct class" into read-only memory, a task now complete with these changes. This will make the future rust interactions with the driver core more "provably correct" as well as providing more obvious lifetime rules for all busses and classes in the kernel. The changes required for this did touch many individual classes and busses as many callbacks were changed to take const * parameters instead. All of these changes have been submitted to the various subsystem maintainers, giving them plenty of time to review, and most of them actually did so. Commit volume in documentation is relatively low this time, but there is
still a fair amount going on, including: - Reorganizing the architecture-specific documentation under Documentation/arch. This makes the structure match the source directory and helps to clean up the mess that is the top-level Documentation directory a bit. This work creates the new directory and moves x86 and most of the less-active architectures there. The current plan is to move the rest of the architectures in 6.5, with the patches going through the appropriate subsystem trees. - Some more Spanish translations and maintenance of the Italian translation. - A new "Kernel contribution maturity model" document from Ted. - A new tutorial on quickly building a trimmed kernel from Thorsten. sh: sq: Fix incorrect element size for allocating bitmap buffer
The Store Queue code allocates a bitmap buffer with the size of
multiple of sizeof(long) in sq_api_init(). While the buffer size
is calculated correctly, the code uses the wrong element size to
allocate the buffer which results in the allocated bitmap buffer
being too small.
Fix this by allocating the buffer with kcalloc() with element size
sizeof(long) instead of kzalloc() whose elements size defaults to
sizeof(char).

Kconfig: introduce HAS_IOPORT option and select it as necessary
We introduce a new HAS_IOPORT Kconfig option to indicate support for I/O Port access. In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will disable compilation of the I/O accessor functions inb()/outb() and friends on architectures which can not meaningfully support legacy I/O spaces such as s390. The following architectures do not select HAS_IOPORT: * ARC * C-SKY * Hexagon * Nios II * OpenRISC * s390 * User-Mode Linux * Xtensa All other architectures select HAS_IOPORT at least conditionally. The "depends on" relations on HAS_IOPORT in drivers as well as ifdefs for HAS_IOPORT specific sections will be added in subsequent patches on a per subsystem basis. sh: nmi_debug: fix return value of __setup handler
__setup() handlers should return 1 to obsolete_checksetup() in
init/main.c to indicate that the boot option has been handled.
A return of 0 causes the boot option/value to be listed as an Unknown
kernel parameter and added to init's (limited) argument or environment
strings. Also, error return codes don't mean anything to
obsolete_checksetup() -- only non-zero (usually 1) or zero.
So return 1 from nmi_debug_setup().

sched/idle: Mark arch_cpu_idle_dead() __noreturn
Before commit 076cbf5d2163 ("x86/xen: don't let xen_pv_play_dead() return"), in Xen, when a previously offlined CPU was brought back online, it unexpectedly resumed execution where it left off in the middle of the idle loop. There were some hacks to make that work, but the behavior was surprising as do_idle() doesn't expect an offlined CPU to return from the dead (in arch_cpu_idle_dead()). Now that Xen has been fixed, and the arch-specific implementations of arch_cpu_idle_dead() also don't return, give it a __noreturn attribute. This will cause the compiler to complain if an arch-specific implementation might return. It also improves code generation for both caller and callee. Also fixes the following warning: vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: do_idle+0x25f: unreachable instruction Reported-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@kernel.org> Tested-by: Paul E. Networking changes for 6.3.
Core ---- - Add dedicated kmem_cache for typical/small skb->head, avoid having to access struct page at kfree time, and improve memory use. - Introduce sysctl to set default RPS configuration for new netdevs. - Define Netlink protocol specification format which can be used to describe messages used by each family and auto-generate parsers. Add tools for generating kernel data structures and uAPI headers. - Expose all net/core sysctls inside netns. - Remove 4s sleep in netpoll if carrier is instantly detected on boot. - Add configurable limit of MDB entries per port, and port-vlan. - Continue populating drop reasons throughout the stack. - Retire a handful of legacy Qdiscs and classifiers. Protocols --------- - Support IPv4 big TCP (TSO frames larger than 64kB). - Add IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE socket option, to control local port range on socket by socket basis. - Track and report in procfs number of MPTCP sockets used. - Support mixing IPv4 and IPv6 flows in the in-kernel MPTCP path manager. - IPv6: don't check net.ipv6.route.max_size and rely on garbage collection to free memory (similarly to IPv4). - Support Penultimate Segment Pop (PSP) flavor in SRv6 (RFC8986). - ICMP: add per-rate limit counters. - Add support for user scanning requests in ieee802154. - Remove static WEP support. - Support minimal Wi-Fi 7 Extremely High Throughput (EHT) rate reporting. - WiFi 7 EHT channel puncturing support (client & AP). BPF --- - Add a rbtree data structure following the "next-gen data structure" precedent set by recently added linked list, that is, by using kfunc + kptr instead of adding a new BPF map type. - Expose XDP hints via kfuncs with initial support for RX hash and timestamp metadata. - Add BPF_F_NO_TUNNEL_KEY extension to bpf_skb_set_tunnel_key to better support decap on GRE tunnel devices not operating in collect metadata. - Improve x86 JIT's codegen for PROBE_MEM runtime error checks. - Remove the need for trace_printk_lock for bpf_trace_printk and bpf_trace_vprintk helpers. - Extend libbpf's bpf_tracing.h support for tracing arguments of kprobes/uprobes and syscall as a special case. - Significantly reduce the search time for module symbols by livepatch and BPF. - Enable cpumasks to be used as kptrs, which is useful for tracing programs tracking which tasks end up running on which CPUs in different time intervals. - Add support for BPF trampoline on s390x and riscv64. - Add capability to export the XDP features supported by the NIC. - Add __bpf_kfunc tag for marking kernel functions as kfuncs. - Add cgroup.memory=nobpf kernel parameter option to disable BPF memory accounting for container environments. Netfilter --------- - Remove the CLUSTERIP target. It has been marked as obsolete for years, and we still have WARN splats wrt. races of the out-of-band /proc interface installed by this target. - Add 'destroy' commands to nf_tables. They are identical to the existing 'delete' commands, but do not return an error if the referenced object (set, chain, rule...) did not exist. Driver API ---------- - Improve cpumask_local_spread() locality to help NICs set the right IRQ affinity on AMD platforms. - Separate C22 and C45 MDIO bus transactions more clearly. - Introduce new DCB table to control DSCP rewrite on egress. - Support configuration of Physical Layer Collision Avoidance (PLCA) Reconciliation Sublayer (RS) (802.3cg-2019). Modern version of shared medium Ethernet. - Support for MAC Merge layer (IEEE 802.3-2018 clause 99). Allowing preemption of low priority frames by high priority frames. - Add support for controlling MACSec offload using netlink SET. - Rework devlink instance refcounts to allow registration and de-registration under the instance lock. Split the code into multiple files, drop some of the unnecessarily granular locks and factor out common parts of netlink operation handling. - Add TX frame aggregation parameters (for USB drivers). - Add a new attr TCA_EXT_WARN_MSG to report TC (offload) warning messages with notifications for debug. - Allow offloading of UDP NEW connections via act_ct. - Add support for per action HW stats in TC. - Support hardware miss to TC action (continue processing in SW from a specific point in the action chain). - Warn if old Wireless Extension user space interface is used with modern cfg80211/mac80211 drivers. Do not support Wireless Extensions for Wi-Fi 7 devices at all. Everyone should switch to using nl80211 interface instead. - Improve the CAN bit timing configuration. Use extack to return error messages directly to user space, update the SJW handling, including the definition of a new default value that will benefit CAN-FD controllers, by increasing their oscillator tolerance. sh: initialize max_mapnr
sh never initializes max_mapnr which is used by the generic implementation
of pfn_valid().
Initialize max_mapnr with set_max_mapnr() in sh::paging_init().

sh: mm: set VM_IOREMAP flag to the vmalloc area
Currently, for vmalloc areas with flag VM_IOREMAP set, except of the specific alignment clamping in __get_vm_area_node(), they will be 1) Shown as ioremap in /proc/vmallocinfo; 2) Ignored by /proc/kcore reading via vread() So for the ioremap in __sq_remap() of sh, we should set VM_IOREMAP in flag to make it handled correctly as above. mm, arch: add generic implementation of pfn_valid() for FLATMEM
Every architecture that supports FLATMEM memory model defines its own version of pfn_valid() that essentially compares a pfn to max_mapnr. Use mips/powerpc version implemented as static inline as a generic implementation of pfn_valid() and drop its per-architecture definitions. mm: remove __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE is now supported by all architectures that support swp PTEs, so let's drop it. Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20230113171026.582290-27-david@redhat.com Signed-off-by: David Hildenbrand <david@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> |

sh/mm: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE
Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE by using bit 6 in the PTE, reducing the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case to 5 bits. Generic MM currently only uses 5 bits for the type (MAX_SWAPFILES_SHIFT), so the stolen bit is effectively unused. Interrestingly, the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case could currently overlap with the _PAGE_PRESENT bit, because there is a sneaky shift by 1 in __pte_to_swp_entry() and __swp_entry_to_pte(). Bit 0-7 in the architecture specific swap PTE would get shifted to bit 1-8 in the PTE. As generic MM uses 5 bits only, this didn't matter so far. While at it, mask the type in __swp_entry().
