This patch fixes a check for offset in gpio_to_irq_unbanked()
and also assigns gpio_irq, gpio_unbanked of chips[0] to
appropriate values which is used in gpio_to_irq_unbanked()
function.
Without this patch, unbanked IRQ handling is broken.

We still have some legacy code needing the callback functions
that won't work properly without platform data. To use platform
data for twl4030-gpio, we need to not trash the possible data.

Commit c111feabe2 (gpio: twl4030: Cache the direction and output
states in private data) improved things in general, but caused a
regression for setting the GPIO output direction.
The change reorganized twl_direction_out() and twl_set() and swapped
the function names around in the process. While doing that, a bug got
introduced that's not obvious while reading the patch as it appears
as no change to the code.
The bug is we now call function twl4030_set_gpio_dataout() twice in
both twl_direction_out() and twl_set(). Instead, we should first
call twl_direction_out() in twl_direction_out() followed by
twl4030_set_gpio_dataout() in twl_set().
This regression probably has gone unnoticed for a long time as the
bootloader may have set the GPIO direction properly in many cases.
This fixes at least the LCD panel not turning on omap3 LDP for
example.

Modify struct acpi_dev_node to contain a pointer to struct acpi_device
associated with the given device object (that is, its ACPI companion
device) instead of an ACPI handle corresponding to it. Introduce two
new macros for manipulating that pointer in a CONFIG_ACPI-safe way,
ACPI_COMPANION() and ACPI_COMPANION_SET(), and rework the
ACPI_HANDLE() macro to take the above changes into account.
Drop the ACPI_HANDLE_SET() macro entirely and rework its users to
use ACPI_COMPANION_SET() instead. For some of them who used to
pass the result of acpi_get_child() directly to ACPI_HANDLE_SET()
introduce a helper routine acpi_preset_companion() doing an
equivalent thing.
The main motivation for doing this is that there are things
represented by struct acpi_device objects that don't have valid
ACPI handles (so called fixed ACPI hardware features, such as
power and sleep buttons) and we would like to create platform
device objects for them and "glue" them to their ACPI companions
in the usual way (which currently is impossible due to the
lack of valid ACPI handles). However, there are more reasons
why it may be useful.
First, struct acpi_device pointers allow of much better type checking
than void pointers which are ACPI handles, so it should be more
difficult to write buggy code using modified struct acpi_dev_node
and the new macros. Second, the change should help to reduce (over
time) the number of places in which the result of ACPI_HANDLE() is
passed to acpi_bus_get_device() in order to obtain a pointer to the
struct acpi_device associated with the given "physical" device,
because now that pointer is returned by ACPI_COMPANION() directly.
Finally, the change should make it easier to write generic code that
will build both for CONFIG_ACPI set and unset without adding explicit
compiler directives to it.

There is a rather horrid merge conflict in tools/perf - I was never
notified of the conflict because it originally occurred between Will's
tree and other stuff. Consequently I have a resolution which Will
forwarded me, which I'll forward on immediately after sending this
mail.
The other notable thing is I'm expecting some build breakage in the
crypto stuff on ARM only with Ard's AES patches. These were merged
into a stable git branch which others had already pulled, so there's
little I can do about this. The problem is caused because these
patches have a dependency on some code in the crypto git tree - I
tried requesting a branch I can pull to resolve these, and all I got
each time from the crypto people was "we'll revert our patches then"
which would only make things worse since I still don't have the
dependent patches. I've no idea what's going on there or how to
resolve that, and since I can't split these patches from the rest of
this pull request, I'm rather stuck with pushing this as-is or
reverting Ard's patches.
Since it should "come out in the wash" I've left them in - the only
build problems they seem to cause at the moment are with randconfigs,
and since it's a new feature anyway. However, if by -rc1 the
dependencies aren't in, I think it'd be best to revert Ard's patches"
I resolved the perf conflict roughly as per the patch sent by Russell,
but there may be some differences. Any errors are likely mine. Let's
see how the crypto issues work out..

This branch contains code cleanups, moves and removals for 3.13.
Qualcomm msm targets had a bunch of code removal for legacy non-DT
platforms. Nomadik saw more device tree conversions and cleanup of old
code. Tegra has some code refactoring, etc.
One longish patch series from Sebastian Hasselbarth changes the init_time
hooks and tries to use a generic implementation for most platforms,
since they were all doing more or less the same things.
Finally the "shark" platform is removed in this release. It's been
abandoned for a while and nobody seems to care enough to keep it
around. If someone comes along and wants to resurrect it, the removal
can easily be reverted and code brought back.
Beyond this, mostly a bunch of removals of stale content across the
board, etc.

In case of error, the function devm_ioremap_resource() returns ERR_PTR()
and never returns NULL. The NULL test in the return value check should
be replaced with IS_ERR(). Also remove the dev_err call to avoid redundant

Current Kconfig allows GPIO_DEVRES to be selected and compiled without
GPIOLIB. This does not make sense anymore since GPIOLIB has become the
exclusive way to deal with GPIOs. This patch makes GPIO_DEVRES available
only if GPIOLIB is selected.

The SA1100 was implementing its own variants of gpio_get_value()
and gpio_set_value() and only selectively falling back to
gpiolib for extended (EGPIO) handling. However the driver in
gpio/gpio-sa1100.c already handles the same functionality for
these lines, yet remain unused.
The only upside would be things like a timing-critical hotpath
on bit-banged GPIO, but that kind of things does not seem to
happen on these GPIOs, so it is not worth having the extra
complexity.
Tested with some buttons on the Compaq iPAQ H3630.

The GPIO driver for the Abilis Systems TB10x series of SOCs based on ARC700
CPUs. It supports GPIO control and GPIO interrupt generation. This driver

The ACPI GpioInt resources contain polarity field that is used to specify
whether the interrupt is active high or low. Since gpiolib supports
GPIOF_ACTIVE_LOW we can pass this information in the flags field in
acpi_find_gpio(), analogous to the DeviceTree version.

The new GPIO descriptor based interface is now preferred over the old
integer based one. This patch converts the ACPI GPIO helpers to use this
new interface internally. In addition to that provide compatibility
function acpi_get_gpio_by_index() that converts the returned GPIO
descriptor to an integer.
We also drop acpi_get_gpio() as it is not used anywhere outside
gpiolib-acpi and even there we use acpi_get_gpiod() instead.

Add gpiod_get(), gpiod_get_index() and gpiod_put() functions that
provide safer management of GPIOs.
These functions put the GPIO framework in line with the conventions of
other frameworks in the kernel, and help ensure every GPIO is declared
properly and valid while it is used.

This patch exports the gpiod_* family of API functions, a safer
alternative to the legacy GPIO interface. Differences between the gpiod
and legacy gpio APIs are:
- gpio works with integers, whereas gpiod operates on opaque handlers
which cannot be forged or used before proper acquisition
- gpiod get/set functions are aware of the active low state of a GPIO
- gpio consumers should now include <linux/gpio/consumer.h> to access
the new interface, whereas chips drivers will use
<linux/gpio/driver.h>
The legacy gpio API is now built as inline functions on top of gpiod.

The physical address of the GPIO memory address is already printed
implicitly by dev_info() as part of the device name. The virtual
address doesn't add any value. In addition, printing a resource_size_t
with %x lead to a compiler warning on some platforms.

Whenever an IRQ is claimed or freed, call gpio_lock_as_irq() or
gpio_unlock_as_irq() on the associated GPIO, to prevent that GPIO from
being configured in a manner incompatible with an interrupt.

The OMAP GPIO driver keeps track about GPIO pins that are
used as IRQ lines for two reasons:
1) To prevent GPIO banks to be disabled while one of their
GPIO pins are only used as an interrupt line.
2) To not allow another caller to set the GPIO pin as output.
Now gpiolib has an API to mark GPIO pins as used as IRQ lines
so the GPIO core only allows to set as output GPIO pins not
tied to an IRQ. So there is no need to have custom code for 2).
The IRQ usage still has to be maintained locally for 1) though.

It is currently often possible in many GPIO drivers to request
a GPIO line to be used as IRQ after calling gpio_to_irq() and,
as the gpiolib is not aware of this, set the same line to
output and start driving it, with undesired side effects.
As it is a bogus usage scenario to request a line flagged as
output to used as IRQ, we introduce APIs to let gpiolib track
the use of a line as IRQ, and also set this flag from the
userspace ABI.
The API is symmetric so that lines can also be flagged from
.irq_enable() and unflagged from IRQ by .irq_disable().
The debugfs file is altered so that we see if a line is
reserved for IRQ.

I have no idea why this driver is using __raw* accessors for
reading and writing registers, I suspect it is just force of
habit or copy/paste. Change all to readb()/writeb() except
one chain where I used writeb_relaxed() up until the last
writeb().

When doing this I see that the hwirq argument is used
for mapping rather than the Linux IRQ in the map function.
This doesn't look right. Use the Linux IRQ instead.
I cannot test this patch so I don't know if the mapping change
is correct, however since absolutely every other driver does
it the other way around this doesn't look sound at all. Please
help out with review.

Patch be1a4b brought some improvements to the GPIO error handling code,
but also changed the return value of gpiod_request() when called on a
not yet initialized GPIO descriptor: it now returns -EINVAL instead of
-EPROBE_DEFER, and this affects some drivers.
This patch restores the original behavior for gpiod_request(). It is
safe to do so now that desc_to_gpio() does not rely on the GPIO
descriptor to be initialized. Other functions changed by patch be1a4b
do not see their return value affected, so these are not reverted.

The current implementation of desc_to_gpio() relies on the chip pointer
to be set to a valid value in order to compute the GPIO number. This
was done in the hope that we can get rid of the gpio_desc global array,
but this is not happening anytime soon.
This patch reimplements desc_to_gpio() in a fashion similar to that of
gpio_to_desc(). As a result, desc_to_gpio(gpio_to_desc(gpio)) == gpio is
now always true. This allows to call desc_to_gpio() on non-initialized
descriptors as some error-handling code currently does.

Checking LP_INT_STAT is not enough in the interrupt handler because its
contents get updated regardless of whether the pin has interrupt enabled or
not. This causes the driver to loop forever for GPIOs that are pulled up.
Fix this by checking the interrupt enable bit for the pin as well.

The OMAP GPIO controller HW requires a pin to be configured in GPIO
input mode in order to operate as an interrupt input. Since drivers
should not be aware of whether an interrupt pin is also a GPIO or not,
the HW should be fully configured/enabled as an IRQ if a driver solely
uses IRQ APIs such as request_irq(), and never calls any GPIO-related
APIs. As such, add the missing HW setup to the OMAP GPIO controller's
irq_chip driver.
Since this bypasses the GPIO subsystem we have to ensure that another
driver won't be able to request the same GPIO pin that is used as an
IRQ and set its direction as output. Requesting the GPIO and setting
its direction as input is allowed though.
This fixes smsc911x ethernet support for tobi and igep OMAP3 boards
and OMAP4 SDP SPI based ethernet that use a GPIO as an interrupt line.

The GPIO OMAP controller pins can be used as IRQ and GPIO
independently so is necessary to keep track GPIO pins and
IRQ lines usage separately to make sure that the bank will
always be enabled while being used.
Also move gpio_is_input() definition in preparation for the
next patch that setups the controller's irq_chip driver when
a caller requests an interrupt line.

The pre-existing sysfs interfaces which take explicit namespace
argument are weird in that they place the optional @ns in front of
@name which is contrary to the established convention. For example,
we end up forcing vast majority of sysfs_get_dirent() users to do
sysfs_get_dirent(parent, NULL, name), which is silly and error-prone
especially as @ns and @name may be interchanged without causing
compilation warning.
This renames sysfs_get_dirent() to sysfs_get_dirent_ns() and swap the
positions of @name and @ns, and sysfs_get_dirent() is now a wrapper
around sysfs_get_dirent_ns(). This makes confusions a lot less
likely.
There are other interfaces which take @ns before @name. They'll be
updated by following patches.
This patch doesn't introduce any functional changes.
v2: EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL() wasn't updated leading to undefined symbol
error on module builds. Reported by build test robot. Fixed.

Remove NEED_MACH_GPIO_H config select option for ARCH_DAVINCI
to start using gpiolib interface for davinci platforms. This makes
it easier to use the gpio driver on other platforms as it breaks
dependency on mach-davinci.
Latencies for gpio_get/set APIs will increase. On measurement,
latency was found to have increased by 18 microsecond with
gpiolib API as compared to inline APIs.
Measurement was done on DA850 EVM for gpio_get_value() API by
taking the printk timing across the call with interrupts disabled.

Modify DaVinci GPIO driver to become a platform device
driver.
The driver does not have platform driver structure or
a probe. Instead, it has pure_initcall function for
initialization. The platform specific informaiton is
obtained using the DaVinci specific davinci_soc_info
structure. This is a problem for Device Tree (DT)
implementation.
As a first stage of DT conversion, we implement a probe.
Additional notes:
- The driver registration happens as postcore_initcall.
This is required since machine init functions like
da850_lcd_hw_init() make use of GPIO.
- Start using devres APIs for simpler error handling.

The pca957x driver supports a handful of I2C GPIO expanders from NXP, Maxim,
and TI. For the PCA9574 and PCA9575 devices only, the driver resets the GPIO
level and direction in the pca957x_probe function. This seems like the wrong
thing to do, since it can cause hardware bit twiddles during warm reboots when
the chip state and reset values don't match.
This kind of initialization is best left upstream (in a bootloader) or
downstream (in userspace). It's also an inconsistency across devices supported
by this driver.
This patch is NOT boot-tested: the SoC I'm using is stuck on 2.6.37, and the
patch doesn't apply trivially.

This converts the IOP32x and IOP33x platforms to pass their
base address offset by a resource attached to a platform device
instead of using static offset macros implicitly passed
through <linux/gpio.h> including <mach/gpio.h>. Delete the
local <mach/gpio.h> and <asm/hardware/iop3xx-gpio.h> headers
and remove the selection of NEED_MACH_GPIO_H.
Pass the virtual address as a resource in the platform device
at this point for bisectability, next patch will pass the
physical address as is custom.

Add the GPIO driver for the Broadcom bcm281xx family of mobile SoCs.
These GPIO controllers may contain up to 8 banks where each bank
includes 32 pins that can be driven high or low and act as an edge
sensitive interrupt.

gpiod_get/set functions share common code between their regular and
cansleep variants. The exporting of the gpiod interface will make
the situation worse. This patch factorizes the common code to avoid code
redundancy.

Currently many but not all GPIO log messages log the GPIO number and the
formats vary. Ensure that this is done consistently by defining logging
helpers which take the GPIO descriptor.
The will help people pattern matching on logs and providing the number
makes the log messages that omitted it more useful.

For pcf857x driver if the initial state is not set properly (proper
n_latch is not passed), we get bad irq prints on console.
We get this only for the first interrupt and doesnot repeat for further
interrupts unles and until there are other gpio pins which are not flipping
continously.

It appears some drivers are using gpio_set_debounce()
opportunistically, i.e. without knowing whether it works or
not. (Example: input/keyboard/gpio_keys.c) to account for
this use case, return -ENOTSUPP and do not print any
warnings in this case.
Took a round over the other gpio_set_debounce() consumers
to make sure that none of them are relying on the returned
error code to be something specific.

At several places the gpiolib will proceed to handle a GPIO
descriptor even if it's ->chip member is NULL and no gpiochip
is associated.
Fix this by checking that both the descriptor cookie *and*
the chip pointer are valid.
Also bail out earlier with more specific diagnostic messages
on missing operations for setting as input/output or debounce.

This patch adds support for the GPIOs found on the Fintek super-I/O
chips F71882FG and F71889F.
A super-I/O is a legacy I/O controller embedded on x86 motherboards. It
is used to connect the low-bandwidth devices. Among others functions the
F71882FG/F71889F provides: a parallel port, two serial ports, a keyboard
controller, an hardware monitoring controller and some GPIO pins.
Note that this super-I/Os are embedded on some Atom-based LaCie NASes.
The GPIOs are used to control the LEDs and the hard drive power.

The device tree property should be more descriptive.
microchip seems more reasonable than mcp. The old mcp
prefix is still supported but marked as deprecated.
Users of mcp have to switch to the microchip prefix.

GPIO support on Exynos SoCs is provided by pinctrl-samsung driver,
leaving all the support code in gpio-samsung driver unused. This dead
code can be safely removed and so it is done by this patch.

The SOCs in the OCTEON family have 16 (or in some cases 20) on-chip
GPIO pins, this driver handles them all. Configuring the pins as
interrupt sources is handled elsewhere (OCTEON's irq handling code).

The argument is not used, remove it. No board registers a pcf857x device
with an IRQ without specifying platform data, IRQ domain registration
behaviour is thus not affected by this change.

This change fixes a regression introduced by commit
f5f0b7aa8 (gpio: pca953x: make the register access by GPIO bank)
When the pca953x driver was converted to using 8-bit reads/writes
the bitmask in pca953x_gpio_get_value wasn't adjusted with a
modulus BANK_SZ and consequently looks at the wrong bits in the
input register.

Remove unneeded error handling on the result of a call to
platform_get_resource when the value is passed to devm_ioremap_resource.
Move the call to platform_get_resource adjacent to the call to
devm_ioremap_resource to make the connection between them more clear.

In case request_threaded_irq inside adnp_irq_setup fails, the driver
segfaults. This is because irq_domain_remove is called twice with
the same pointer. First time in adnp_irq_setup and then a second time
after leaving adnp_irq_setup in the error path of adnp_i2c_probe
inside adnp_teardown.
This fixes this by removing the call to irq_domain_remove from
adnp_irq_setup.

The call to gpiochip_add made by this driver is capable of auto-selecting a
base if one is not provided. However, it was not called unless there was
already a DT entry or platform data. This patch calls it even if the base is
not already known so that gpiochip_add can attempt to find a usable base.

It seems that the value read back from the PALMAS_GPIO_DATA_IN register
isn't valid if the GPIO direction is out. When that's the case, we can
read back the PALMAS_GPIO_DATA_OUT register to get the proper output value.

Commit f87311743 ("ARM: mmp: add more compatible names in gpio driver")
changed the driver logic to determine the number of available GPIOs from
the compatible string, and hence obsoleted the (undocumented) child
nodes that were previously necessary. However, it left some remainder
which can be safely removed now.
Also, this patch makes pxa_gpio_probe_dt() return the correct value in
case irq_alloc_descs() fails.

Register the GPIO pin range, and request and free GPIO pins using the
pinctrl API. The pctl_name platform data member should be used by
platform devices to point out which pinctrl device to use.
Follows same style as "dc3465a gpio-rcar: Add pinctrl support",
by Laurent Pinchart, thanks to him.

Convert gpio-tz1090 driver to use generic irqchips. This allows the
irq_ack, irq_mask, and irq_unmask callbacks and associated helper
functions to be removed. Also switch to using irq_setup_alt_chip() in
the irq_set_type callback instead of using __irq_set_handler_locked().

Add a GPIO driver for the low-power Powerdown Controller GPIOs in the
TZ1090 SoC.
The driver is instantiated by device tree and supports interrupts for
the SysWake GPIOs only.

Add a GPIO driver for the main GPIOs found in the TZ1090 (Comet) SoC.
This doesn't include low-power GPIOs as they're controlled separately
via the Powerdown Controller (PDC) registers.
The driver is instantiated by device tree and supports interrupts for

The OMAP GPIO driver check if the chip has an associated
Device Tree node using the struct gpio_chip of_node member.
But this is only build if CONFIG_OF_GPIO is defined which
leads to the following error when using omap1_defconfig:

When an OMAP GPIO is used as an IRQ line, a call to gpio_request()
has to be made to initialize the OMAP GPIO bank before a driver
request the IRQ. Otherwise the call to request_irq() fails.
Drives should not be aware of this neither care wether an IRQ line
is a GPIO or not. They should just request the IRQ and this has to
be handled by the irq_chip driver.
With the current OMAP GPIO DT binding, if we define:

The GPIO is correctly mapped as an IRQ but a call to gpio_request()
is never made. Since a call to the custom IRQ domain .map function
handler is made for each GPIO used as an IRQ, the GPIO can be setup
and configured as input there automatically.

DT or legacy boot as suggested by Jean-Christophe PLAGNIOL-VILLARD
- Add a comment that this is just a temporary solution until and
that it has to be removed once is handled by the IRQ core.
