sysctl: treewide: constify the ctl_table argument of proc_handlers
const qualify the struct ctl_table argument in the proc_handler function signatures. This is a prerequisite to moving the static ctl_table structs into .rodata data which will ensure that proc_handler function pointers cannot be modified. This patch has been generated by the following coccinelle script: ``` virtual patch @r1@ identifier ctl, write, buffer, lenp, ppos; identifier func !~ "appldata_(timer|interval)_handler|sched_(rt|rr)_handler|rds_tcp_skbuf_handler|proc_sctp_do_(hmac_alg|rto_min|rto_max|udp_port|alpha_beta|auth|probe_interval)"; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table *ctl + const struct ctl_table *ctl ,int write, void *buffer, size_t *lenp, loff_t *ppos); @r2@ identifier func, ctl, write, buffer, lenp, ppos; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table *ctl + const struct ctl_table *ctl ,int write, void *buffer, size_t *lenp, loff_t *ppos) { ... } @r3@ identifier func; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table * + const struct ctl_table * ,int , void *, size_t *, loff_t *); @r4@ identifier func, ctl; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table *ctl + const struct ctl_table *ctl ,int , void *, size_t *, loff_t *); @r5@ identifier func, write, buffer, lenp, ppos; @@ int func( - struct ctl_table * + const struct ctl_table * ,int write, void *buffer, size_t *lenp, loff_t *ppos); ``` * Code formatting was adjusted in xfs_sysctl.c to comply with code conventions. The xfs_stats_clear_proc_handler, xfs_panic_mask_proc_handler and xfs_deprecated_dointvec_minmax where adjusted. * The ctl_table argument in proc_watchdog_common was const qualified. This is called from a proc_handler itself and is calling back into another proc_handler, making it necessary to change it as part of the proc_handler migration. - 875fa64577da ("mm/hugetlb_vmemmap: fix race with speculative PFN
walkers") is known to cause a performance regression (https://lore.kernel.org/all/3acefad9-96e5-4681-8014-827d6be71c7a@linux.ibm.com/T/#mfa809800a7862fb5bdf834c6f71a3a5113eb83ff). Yu has a fix which I'll send along later via the hotfixes branch. - In the series "mm: Avoid possible overflows in dirty throttling" Jan Kara addresses a couple of issues in the writeback throttling code. These fixes are also targetted at -stable kernels. - Ryusuke Konishi's series "nilfs2: fix potential issues related to reserved inodes" does that. This should actually be in the mm-nonmm-stable tree, along with the many other nilfs2 patches. My bad. - More folio conversions from Kefeng Wang in the series "mm: convert to folio_alloc_mpol()" - Kemeng Shi has sent some cleanups to the writeback code in the series "Add helper functions to remove repeated code and improve readability of cgroup writeback" - Kairui Song has made the swap code a little smaller and a little faster in the series "mm/swap: clean up and optimize swap cache index". - In the series "mm/memory: cleanly support zeropage in vm_insert_page*(), vm_map_pages*() and vmf_insert_mixed()" David Hildenbrand has reworked the rather sketchy handling of the use of the zeropage in MAP_SHARED mappings. I don't see any runtime effects here - more a cleanup/understandability/maintainablity thing. - Dev Jain has improved selftests/mm/va_high_addr_switch.c's handling of higher addresses, for aarch64. The (poorly named) series is "Restructure va_high_addr_switch". - The core TLB handling code gets some cleanups and possible slight optimizations in Bang Li's series "Add update_mmu_tlb_range() to simplify code". - Jane Chu has improved the handling of our fake-an-unrecoverable-memory-error testing feature MADV_HWPOISON in the series "Enhance soft hwpoison handling and injection". - Jeff Johnson has sent a billion patches everywhere to add MODULE_DESCRIPTION() to everything. Some landed in this pull. - In the series "mm: cleanup MIGRATE_SYNC_NO_COPY mode", Kefeng Wang has simplified migration's use of hardware-offload memory copying. - Yosry Ahmed performs more folio API conversions in his series "mm: zswap: trivial folio conversions". - In the series "large folios swap-in: handle refault cases first", Chuanhua Han inches us forward in the handling of large pages in the swap code. This is a cleanup and optimization, working toward the end objective of full support of large folio swapin/out. - In the series "mm,swap: cleanup VMA based swap readahead window calculation", Huang Ying has contributed some cleanups and a possible fixlet to his VMA based swap readahead code. - In the series "add mTHP support for anonymous shmem" Baolin Wang has taught anonymous shmem mappings to use multisize THP. By default this is a no-op - users must opt in vis sysfs controls. Dramatic improvements in pagefault latency are realized. - David Hildenbrand has some cleanups to our remaining use of page_mapcount() in the series "fs/proc: move page_mapcount() to fs/proc/internal.h". - David also has some highmem accounting cleanups in the series "mm/highmem: don't track highmem pages manually". - Build-time fixes and cleanups from John Hubbard in the series "cleanups, fixes, and progress towards avoiding "make headers"". - Cleanups and consolidation of the core pagemap handling from Barry Song in the series "mm: introduce pmd|pte_needs_soft_dirty_wp helpers and utilize them". - Lance Yang's series "Reclaim lazyfree THP without splitting" has reduced the latency of the reclaim of pmd-mapped THPs under fairly common circumstances. A 10x speedup is seen in a microbenchmark. It does this by punting to aother CPU but I guess that's a win unless all CPUs are pegged. - hugetlb_cgroup cleanups from Xiu Jianfeng in the series "mm/hugetlb_cgroup: rework on cftypes". - Miaohe Lin's series "Some cleanups for memory-failure" does just that thing. - Is anyone reading this stuff? If so, email me! - Someone other than SeongJae has developed a DAMON feature in Honggyu Kim's series "DAMON based tiered memory management for CXL memory". This adds DAMON features which may be used to help determine the efficiency of our placement of CXL/PCIe attached DRAM. - DAMON user API centralization and simplificatio work in SeongJae Park's series "mm/damon: introduce DAMON parameters online commit function". - In the series "mm: page_type, zsmalloc and page_mapcount_reset()" David Hildenbrand does some maintenance work on zsmalloc - partially modernizing its use of pageframe fields. - Kefeng Wang provides more folio conversions in the series "mm: remove page_maybe_dma_pinned() and page_mkclean()". - More cleanup from David Hildenbrand, this time in the series "mm/memory_hotplug: use PageOffline() instead of PageReserved() for !ZONE_DEVICE". It "enlightens memory hotplug more about PageOffline() pages" and permits the removal of some virtio-mem hacks. - Barry Song's series "mm: clarify folio_add_new_anon_rmap() and __folio_add_anon_rmap()" is a cleanup to the anon folio handling in preparation for mTHP (multisize THP) swapin. - Kefeng Wang's series "mm: improve clear and copy user folio" implements more folio conversions, this time in the area of large folio userspace copying. - The series "Docs/mm/damon/maintaier-profile: document a mailing tool and community meetup series" tells people how to get better involved with other DAMON developers. From SeongJae Park. - A large series ("kmsan: Enable on s390") from Ilya Leoshkevich does that. - David Hildenbrand sends along more cleanups, this time against the migration code. The series is "mm/migrate: move NUMA hinting fault folio isolation + checks under PTL". - Jan Kara has found quite a lot of strangenesses and minor errors in the readahead code. He addresses this in the series "mm: Fix various readahead quirks". - SeongJae Park's series "selftests/damon: test DAMOS tried regions and {min,max}_nr_regions" adds features and addresses errors in DAMON's self testing code. - Gavin Shan has found a userspace-triggerable WARN in the pagecache code. The series "mm/filemap: Limit page cache size to that supported by xarray" addresses this. The series is marked cc:stable. - Chengming Zhou's series "mm/ksm: cmp_and_merge_page() optimizations and cleanup" cleans up and slightly optimizes KSM. - Roman Gushchin has separated the memcg-v1 and memcg-v2 code - lots of code motion. The series (which also makes the memcg-v1 code Kconfigurable) are "mm: memcg: separate legacy cgroup v1 code and put under config option" and "mm: memcg: put cgroup v1-specific memcg data under CONFIG_MEMCG_V1" - Dan Schatzberg's series "Add swappiness argument to memory.reclaim" adds an additional feature to this cgroup-v2 control file. - The series "Userspace controls soft-offline pages" from Jiaqi Yan permits userspace to stop the kernel's automatic treatment of excessive correctable memory errors. In order to permit userspace to monitor and handle this situation. - Kefeng Wang's series "mm: migrate: support poison recover from migrate folio" teaches the kernel to appropriately handle migration from poisoned source folios rather than simply panicing. - SeongJae Park's series "Docs/damon: minor fixups and improvements" does those things. - In the series "mm/zsmalloc: change back to per-size_class lock" Chengming Zhou improves zsmalloc's scalability and memory utilization. - Vivek Kasireddy's series "mm/gup: Introduce memfd_pin_folios() for pinning memfd folios" makes the GUP code use FOLL_PIN rather than bare refcount increments. So these paes can first be moved aside if they reside in the movable zone or a CMA block. - Andrii Nakryiko has added a binary ioctl()-based API to /proc/pid/maps for much faster reading of vma information. The series is "query VMAs from /proc/<pid>/maps". - In the series "mm: introduce per-order mTHP split counters" Lance Yang improves the kernel's presentation of developer information related to multisize THP splitting. - Michael Ellerman has developed the series "Reimplement huge pages without hugepd on powerpc (8xx, e500, book3s/64)". This permits userspace to use all available huge page sizes. - In the series "revert unconditional slab and page allocator fault injection calls" Vlastimil Babka removes a performance-affecting and not very useful feature from slab fault injection. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iHUEABYKAB0WIQTTMBEPP41GrTpTJgfdBJ7gKXxAjgUCZp2C+QAKCRDdBJ7gKXxA joTkAQDvjqOoFStqk4GU3OXMYB7WCU/ZQMFG0iuu1EEwTVDZ4QEA8CnG7seek1R3 xEoo+vw0sWWeLV3qzsxnCA1BJ8cTJA8= =z0Lf -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'mm-stable-2024-07-21-14-50' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton: - In the series "mm: Avoid possible overflows in dirty throttling" Jan Kara addresses a couple of issues in the writeback throttling code. We have also extended the kmalloc() alignment guarantees for non-power-of-two sizes in a way that benefits rust. The rest are various cleanups and non-critical fixups. - Dedicated bucket allocator (Kees Cook) This series [1] enhances the probabilistic defense against heap spraying/grooming of CONFIG_RANDOM_KMALLOC_CACHES from last year. kmalloc() users that are known to be useful for exploits can get completely separate set of kmalloc caches that can't be shared with other users. The first converted users are alloc_msg() and memdup_user(). The hardening is enabled by CONFIG_SLAB_BUCKETS. - Extended kmalloc() alignment guarantees (Vlastimil Babka) For years now we have guaranteed natural alignment for power-of-two allocations, but nothing was defined for other sizes (in practice, we have two such buckets, kmalloc-96 and kmalloc-192). To avoid unnecessary padding in the rust layer due to its alignment rules, extend the guarantee so that the alignment is at least the largest power-of-two divisor of the requested size. This fits what rust needs, is a superset of the existing power-of-two guarantee, and does not in practice change the layout (and thus does not add overhead due to padding) of the kmalloc-96 and kmalloc-192 caches, unless slab debugging is enabled for them. - Cleanups and non-critical fixups (Chengming Zhou, Suren Baghdasaryan, Matthew Willcox, Alex Shi, and Vlastimil Babka) Various tweaks related to the new alloc profiling code, folio conversion, debugging and more leftovers after SLAB" Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20240701190152.it.631-kees@kernel.org/ [1] * tag 'slab-for-6.11' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vbabka/slab: mm/memcg: alignment memcg_data define condition mm, slab: move prepare_slab_obj_exts_hook under CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING mm, slab: move allocation tagging code in the alloc path into a hook mm/util: Use dedicated slab buckets for memdup_user() ipc, msg: Use dedicated slab buckets for alloc_msg() mm/slab: Introduce kmem_buckets_create() and family mm/slab: Introduce kvmalloc_buckets_node() that can take kmem_buckets argument mm/slab: Plumb kmem_buckets into __do_kmalloc_node() mm/slab: Introduce kmem_buckets typedef slab, rust: extend kmalloc() alignment guarantees to remove Rust padding slab: delete useless RED_INACTIVE and RED_ACTIVE slab: don't put freepointer outside of object if only orig_size slab: make check_object() more consistent mm: Reduce the number of slab->folio casts mm, slab: don't wrap internal functions with alloc_hooks() |

Both memdup_user() and vmemdup_user() handle allocations that are regularly used for exploiting use-after-free type confusion flaws in the kernel (e.g. prctl() PR_SET_VMA_ANON_NAME[1] and setxattr[2][3][4] respectively). Since both are designed for contents coming from userspace, it allows for userspace-controlled allocation sizes. Use a dedicated set of kmalloc buckets so these allocations do not share caches with the global kmalloc buckets. After a fresh boot under Ubuntu 23.10, we can see the caches are already in active use: # grep ^memdup /proc/slabinfo memdup_user-8k 4 4 8192 4 8 : ... memdup_user-4k 8 8 4096 8 8 : ... memdup_user-2k 16 16 2048 16 8 : ... memdup_user-1k 0 0 1024 16 4 : ... memdup_user-512 0 0 512 16 2 : ... memdup_user-256 0 0 256 16 1 : ... memdup_user-128 0 0 128 32 1 : ... memdup_user-64 256 256 64 64 1 : ... memdup_user-32 512 512 32 128 1 : ... memdup_user-16 1024 1024 16 256 1 : ... memdup_user-8 2048 2048 8 512 1 : ... memdup_user-192 0 0 192 21 1 : ... memdup_user-96 168 168 96 42 1 : ... kunit: test: Add vm_mmap() allocation resource manager
For tests that need to allocate using vm_mmap() (e.g. usercopy and execve), provide the interface to have the allocation tracked by KUnit itself. This requires bringing up a placeholder userspace mm. This combines my earlier attempt at this with Mark Rutland's version[1]. Normally alloc_mm() and arch_pick_mmap_layout() aren't exported for modules, so export these only for KUnit testing. mm: fix xyz_noprof functions calling profiled functions
Grepping /proc/allocinfo for "noprof" reveals several xyz_noprof functions, which means internally they are calling profiled functions. This should never happen as such calls move allocation charge from a higher level location where it should be accounted for into these lower level helpers. Fix this by replacing profiled function calls with noprof ones. Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20240531205350.3973009-1-surenb@google.com Fixes: |

mm: switch mm->get_unmapped_area() to a flag
The mm_struct contains a function pointer *get_unmapped_area(), which is set to either arch_get_unmapped_area() or arch_get_unmapped_area_topdown() during the initialization of the mm. Since the function pointer only ever points to two functions that are named the same across all arch's, a function pointer is not really required. In addition future changes will want to add versions of the functions that take additional arguments. So to save a pointers worth of bytes in mm_struct, and prevent adding additional function pointers to mm_struct in future changes, remove it and keep the information about which get_unmapped_area() to use in a flag. Add the new flag to MMF_INIT_MASK so it doesn't get clobbered on fork by mmf_init_flags(). Most MM flags get clobbered on fork. In the pre-existing behavior mm->get_unmapped_area() would get copied to the new mm in dup_mm(), so not clobbering the flag preserves the existing behavior around inheriting the topdown-ness. Introduce a helper, mm_get_unmapped_area(), to easily convert code that refers to the old function pointer to instead select and call either arch_get_unmapped_area() or arch_get_unmapped_area_topdown() based on the flag. Then drop the mm->get_unmapped_area() function pointer. Leave the get_unmapped_area() pointer in struct file_operations alone. The main purpose of this change is to reorganize in preparation for future changes, but it also converts the calls of mm->get_unmapped_area() from indirect branches into a direct ones. The stress-ng bigheap benchmark calls realloc a lot, which calls through get_unmapped_area() in the kernel. On x86, the change yielded a ~1% improvement there on a retpoline config. In testing a few x86 configs, removing the pointer unfortunately didn't result in any actual size reductions in the compiled layout of mm_struct. But depending on compiler or arch alignment requirements, the change could shrink the size of mm_struct. mm/util: Introduce kmemdup_array()
Introduce kmemdup_array() API to duplicate `n` number of elements from a given array. This internally uses kmemdup to allocate and duplicate the `src` array. Signed-off-by: Kartik <kkartik@nvidia.com> Acked-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Thierry Reding <treding@nvidia.com> |

mm/util: use kmap_local_page() in memcmp_pages()
kmap_atomic() has been deprecated in favor of kmap_local_page(). Therefore, replace kmap_atomic() with kmap_local_page() in memcmp_pages(). kmap_atomic() is implemented like a kmap_local_page() which also disables page-faults and preemption (the latter only in !PREEMPT_RT kernels). The kernel virtual addresses returned by these two API are only valid in the context of the callers (i.e., they cannot be handed to other threads). With kmap_local_page() the mappings are per thread and CPU local like in kmap_atomic(); however, they can handle page-faults and can be called from any context (including interrupts). The tasks that call kmap_local_page() can be preempted and, when they are scheduled to run again, the kernel virtual addresses are restored and are still valid. In memcmp_pages(), the block of code between the mapping and un-mapping does not depend on the above-mentioned side effects of kmap_aatomic(), so that mere replacements of the old API with the new one is all that is required (i.e., there is no need to explicitly call pagefault_disable() and/or preempt_disable()). mm: Remove kmem_valid_obj()
Function kmem_dump_obj() will splat if passed a pointer to a non-slab object. So nothing calls it directly, instead calling kmem_valid_obj() first to determine whether the passed pointer to a valid slab object. This means that merging kmem_valid_obj() into kmem_dump_obj() will make the code more concise. Therefore, convert kmem_dump_obj() to work the same way as vmalloc_dump_obj(), removing the need for the kmem_dump_obj() caller to check kmem_valid_obj(). After this, there are no remaining calls to kmem_valid_obj() anymore, and it can be safely removed. rcu: dump vmalloc memory info safely
Currently, for double invoke call_rcu(), will dump rcu_head objects memory
info, if the objects is not allocated from the slab allocator, the
vmalloc_dump_obj() will be invoke and the vmap_area_lock spinlock need to
be held, since the call_rcu() can be invoked in interrupt context,
therefore, there is a possibility of spinlock deadlock scenarios.

CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack part of this feature, and just for userspace. The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction, the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy. parisc: Use generic mmap top-down layout and brk randomization
parisc uses a top-down layout by default that exactly fits the generic functions, so get rid of arch specific code and use the generic version by selecting ARCH_WANT_DEFAULT_TOPDOWN_MMAP_LAYOUT. Note that on parisc the stack always grows up and a "unlimited stack" simply means that the value as defined in CONFIG_STACK_MAX_DEFAULT_SIZE_MB should be used. mm,thp,rmap: simplify compound page mapcount handling
Compound page (folio) mapcount calculations have been different for anon and file (or shmem) THPs, and involved the obscure PageDoubleMap flag. And each huge mapping and unmapping of a file (or shmem) THP involved atomically incrementing and decrementing the mapcount of every subpage of that huge page, dirtying many struct page cachelines. Add subpages_mapcount field to the struct folio and first tail page, so that the total of subpage mapcounts is available in one place near the head: then page_mapcount() and total_mapcount() and page_mapped(), and their folio equivalents, are so quick that anon and file and hugetlb don't need to be optimized differently. Delete the unloved PageDoubleMap. page_add and page_remove rmap functions must now maintain the subpages_mapcount as well as the subpage _mapcount, when dealing with pte mappings of huge pages; and correct maintenance of NR_ANON_MAPPED and NR_FILE_MAPPED statistics still needs reading through the subpages, using nr_subpages_unmapped() - but only when first or last pmd mapping finds subpages_mapcount raised (double-map case, not the common case). But are those counts (used to decide when to split an anon THP, and in vmscan's pagecache_reclaimable heuristic) correctly maintained? Not quite: since page_remove_rmap() (and also split_huge_pmd()) is often called without page lock, there can be races when a subpage pte mapcount 0<->1 while compound pmd mapcount 0<->1 is scanning - races which the previous implementation had prevented. The statistics might become inaccurate, and even drift down until they underflow through 0. That is not good enough, but is better dealt with in a followup patch. Update a few comments on first and second tail page overlaid fields. hugepage_add_new_anon_rmap() has to "increment" compound_mapcount, but subpages_mapcount and compound_pincount are already correctly at 0, so delete its reinitialization of compound_pincount. A simple 100 X munmap(mmap(2GB, MAP_SHARED|MAP_POPULATE, tmpfs), 2GB) took 18 seconds on small pages, and used to take 1 second on huge pages, but now takes 119 milliseconds on huge pages. Mapping by pmds a second time used to take 860ms and now takes 92ms; mapping by pmds after mapping by ptes (when the scan is needed) used to take 870ms and now takes 495ms. But there might be some benchmarks which would show a slowdown, because tail struct pages now fall out of cache until final freeing checks them. bucket_table_alloc uses kvzalloc(GPF_ATOMIC). If kmalloc fails, this now
falls through to vmalloc and hits code paths that assume GFP_KERNEL.

mm: remove the vma linked list
Replace any vm_next use with vma_find(). Update free_pgtables(), unmap_vmas(), and zap_page_range() to use the maple tree. Use the new free_pgtables() and unmap_vmas() in do_mas_align_munmap(). At the same time, alter the loop to be more compact. Now that free_pgtables() and unmap_vmas() take a maple tree as an argument, rearrange do_mas_align_munmap() to use the new tree to hold the vmas to remove. If a process has not enough memory to allocate a new virtual mapping, we may meet verious kinds of error, eg, fork cannot allocate memory, SIGBUS error in shmem, but it is difficult to confirm them, let's add some debug information to easily to check this scenario if __vm_enough_memory fails. mm/util: reduce stack usage of folio_mapcount
folio_test_hugetlb() will call PageHeadHuge which is a function call, and blocks the compiler from recognizing this redundant load. Yang Shi has improved the behaviour of khugepaged collapsing of readonly
file-backed transparent hugepages. Johannes Weiner has arranged for zswap memory use to be tracked and managed on a per-cgroup basis. Munchun Song adds a /proc knob ("hugetlb_optimize_vmemmap") for runtime enablement of the recent huge page vmemmap optimization feature. Baolin Wang contributes a series to fix some issues around hugetlb pagetable invalidation. Zhenwei Pi has fixed some interactions between hwpoisoned pages and virtualization. Tong Tiangen has enabled the use of the presently x86-only page_table_check debugging feature on arm64 and riscv. David Vernet has done some fixup work on the memcg selftests. Peter Xu has taught userfaultfd to handle write protection faults against shmem- and hugetlbfs-backed files. More DAMON development from SeongJae Park - adding online tuning of the feature and support for monitoring of fixed virtual address ranges. Also easier discovery of which monitoring operations are available. Nadav Amit has done some optimization of TLB flushing during mprotect(). Neil Brown continues to labor away at improving our swap-over-NFS support. David Hildenbrand has some fixes to anon page COWing versus get_user_pages(). Peng Liu fixed some errors in the core hugetlb code. Joao Martins has reduced the amount of memory consumed by device-dax's compound devmaps. random: move randomize_page() into mm where it belongs
randomize_page is an mm function. It is documented like one. It contains the history of one. It has the naming convention of one. It looks just like another very similar function in mm, randomize_stack_top(). And it has always been maintained and updated by mm people. There is no need for it to be in random.c. In the "which shape does not look like the other ones" test, pointing to randomize_page() is correct. So move randomize_page() into mm/util.c, right next to the similar randomize_stack_top() function. This commit contains no actual code changes. mm: create new mm/swap.h header file
Patch series "MM changes to improve swap-over-NFS support". Assorted improvements for swap-via-filesystem. This is a resend of these patches, rebased on current HEAD. The only substantial changes is that swap_dirty_folio has replaced swap_set_page_dirty. Currently swap-via-fs (SWP_FS_OPS) doesn't work for any filesystem. It has previously worked for NFS but that broke a few releases back. This series changes to use a new ->swap_rw rather than ->readpage and ->direct_IO. It also makes other improvements. There is a companion series already in linux-next which fixes various issues with NFS. Once both series land, a final patch is needed which changes NFS over to use ->swap_rw. This patch (of 10): Many functions declared in include/linux/swap.h are only used within mm/ Create a new "mm/swap.h" and move some of these declarations there. Remove the redundant 'extern' from the function declarations.
