b9789bfbfe scsi: docs: Update outdated link to IBM developerworks
IBM decided to retire a lot of the content that was previously hosted on
"developerworks", and so some of the links we've used for documentation are
now dead or redirect to some general landing page with no correlation to
what the links were meant to provide.

The s390-tools package is meanwhile also hosted on github, so we can link
to the script directly instead of to the archive.

79f51b7b9c SCSI misc on 20200402
update changing all our txt files to rst ones. Excluding that, we
have the usual driver updates (qla2xxx, ufs, lpfc, zfcp, ibmvfc,
pm80xx, aacraid), a treewide update for scnprintf and some other minor
updates. The major core update is Hannes moving functions out of the
aacraid driver and into the core.

a10183d744 scsi: simplify scsi_partsize
Call scsi_bios_ptable from scsi_partsize instead of requiring boilerplate
code in the callers. Also switch the calling convention to match that
of the ->bios_param instances calling this function, and use true/false
for the return value instead of the weird -1 convention.

dade67f4a5 scsi: docs: convert arcmsr_spec.txt to ReST
This file had its own peculiar style, not following any other
files inside the Kernel (as far as I saw).

Had to do a number of changes here, starting by removing the two
leading asterisks from each line, adding table and literal
block markups and changing whitespace and blank lines.

The end result is that (IMHO), it is now a lot easier to read
it as a text file, while producing a good html output.

Add this functionality, placing the descriptor being read in the actual

That is, for both read and write descriptors query upiu, we are using the

4eaa329e33 scsi: ufs-bsg: Change the calling convention for write descriptor
When we had a write descriptor query upiu, we appended the descriptor right
after the bsg request. This was fine as the bsg driver allows to allocate
whatever buffer we needed in its job request.

Still, the proper way to deliver payload, however small (we only write
config descriptors of 144 bytes), is by using the job request payload data
buffer.

So change this ABI now, while ufs-bsg is still new, and nobody is actually
using it.

df032bf27a scsi: ufs: Add a bsg endpoint that supports UPIUs
For now, just provide an API to allocate and remove ufs-bsg node. We
will use this framework to manage ufs devices by sending UPIU
transactions.

For the time being, implements an empty bsg_request() - will add some
more functionality in coming patches.

Nonetheless, we reveal here the protocol we are planning to use: UFS
Transport Protocol Transactions. UFS transactions consist of packets
called UFS Protocol Information Units (UPIU).

There are UPIU’s defined for UFS SCSI commands, responses, data in and
data out, task management, utility functions, vendor functions,
transaction synchronization and control, and more.

By using UPIUs, we get access to the most fine-grained internals of this
protocol, and able to communicate with the device in ways, that are
sometimes beyond the capacity of the ufs driver.

Moreover and as a result, our core structure - ufs_bsg_node has a pretty
lean structure: using upiu transactions that contains the outmost
detailed info, so we don't really need complex constructs to support it.

a7ddcea58a Drop all 00-INDEX files from Documentation/
This is a respin with a wider audience (all that get_maintainer returned)
and I know this spams a *lot* of people. Not sure what would be the correct
way, so my apologies for ruining your inbox.

The 00-INDEX files are supposed to give a summary of all files present
in a directory, but these files are horribly out of date and their
usefulness is brought into question. Often a simple "ls" would reveal
the same information as the filenames are generally quite descriptive as
a short introduction to what the file covers (it should not surprise
anyone what Documentation/sched/sched-design-CFS.txt covers)

A few years back it was mentioned that these files were no longer really
needed, and they have since then grown further out of date, so perhaps
it is time to just throw them out.

A short status yields the following _outdated_ 00-INDEX files, first
counter is files listed in 00-INDEX but missing in the directory, last
is files present but not listed in 00-INDEX.

List of outdated 00-INDEX:
Documentation: (4/10)
Documentation/sysctl: (0/1)
Documentation/timers: (1/0)
Documentation/blockdev: (3/1)
Documentation/w1/slaves: (0/1)
Documentation/locking: (0/1)
Documentation/devicetree: (0/5)
Documentation/power: (1/1)
Documentation/powerpc: (0/5)

Documentation/scsi: (4/4)
Documentation/filesystems: (2/9)

Documentation/cgroup-v1: (0/2)
Documentation/kbuild: (0/4)
Documentation/spi: (1/0)
Documentation/virtual/kvm: (1/0)
Documentation/scheduler: (0/2)
Documentation/fb: (0/1)
Documentation/block: (0/1)
Documentation/networking: (6/37)
Documentation/vm: (1/3)

Then there are 364 subdirectories in Documentation/ with several files that
are missing 00-INDEX alltogether (and another 120 with a single file and no
00-INDEX).

I don't really have an opinion to whether or not we /should/ have 00-INDEX,
but the above 00-INDEX should either be removed or be kept up to date. If
we should keep the files, I can try to keep them updated, but I rather not
if we just want to delete them anyway.

As a starting point, remove all index-files and references to 00-INDEX and
see where the discussion is going.

72d8c36ec3 scsi: fix race between simultaneous decrements of ->host_failed
sas_ata_strategy_handler() adds the works of the ata error handler to
system_unbound_wq. This workqueue asynchronously runs work items, so the
ata error handler will be performed concurrently on different CPUs. In
this case, ->host_failed will be decreased simultaneously in
scsi_eh_finish_cmd() on different CPUs, and become abnormal.

It will lead to permanently inequality between ->host_failed and
->host_busy, and scsi error handler thread won't start running. IO
errors after that won't be handled.

Since all scmds must have been handled in the strategy handler, just
remove the decrement in scsi_eh_finish_cmd() and zero ->host_busy after
the strategy handler to fix this race.

d9b43a10f0 st: allow debug output to be enabled or disabled via sysfs
Change st driver to allow enabling or disabling debug output
via sysfs file /sys/bus/scsi/drivers/st/debug_flag.

Previously the only way to enable debug output was:

1. loading the driver with the module parameter debug_flag=1
2. an ioctl call (this method was also the only way to dynamically
disable debug output).

To use the ioctl you need a second tape drive (if you are
actively testing the first tape drive) since a second process
cannot open the first tape drive if it is in use.

The this change is only functional if the value of the macro
DEBUG in st.c is a non-zero value (which it is by default).

05545c92db st: implement tape statistics
This patch implements tape statistics in the st module via
sysfs. Current no statistics are available for tape I/O and there
is no easy way to reuse the block layer statistics for tape
as tape is a character device and does not have perform I/O in
sector sized chunks (the size of the data written to tape
can change). For tapes we also need extra stats related to
things like tape movement (via other I/O).

There have been multiple end users requesting statistics
including AT&T (and some HP customers who have not given
permission to be named). It is impossible for them
to investigate any issues related to tape performance
in a non-invasive way.
