ocfs2: enable ocfs2_listxattr for special files
For special files in S_IFBLK/S_IFCHR/S_IFIFO type, we already have ocfs2_setattr and ocfs2_getattr enabled. It's confusing for user space if it can use setattr/getattr to control one attribute appointed but can not list attributes using listxattr for above type files: $ mknod /mnt/b b 0 0 $ setfattr -h -n trusted.name -v 0xbabe /mnt/b $ getfattr -n trusted.name /mnt/b getfattr: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names trusted.name=0sur4= $ getfattr -m trusted /mnt/b $ Fix it by enabling ocfs2_listxattr for ocfs2_special_file_iops. After the commit, fstests/generic/062 will pass. mm, slab: remove last vestiges of SLAB_MEM_SPREAD
Yes, yes, I know the slab people were planning on going slow and letting every subsystem fight this thing on their own. But let's just rip off the band-aid and get it over and done with. I don't want to see a number of unnecessary pull requests just to get rid of a flag that no longer has any meaning. This was mainly done with a couple of 'sed' scripts and then some manual cleanup of the end result. This allowed us to implement support for restricting and forbidding writes to mounted block devices. It was accompanied by converting and adding helpers to operate on bdev_handles instead of plain block devices. That was already a good step forward but ultimately it isn't necessary to have special purpose helpers for opening block devices internally that return a bdev_handle. Fundamentally, opening a block device internally should just be equivalent to opening files. So now all internal opens of block devices return files just as a userspace open would. Instead of introducing a separate indirection into bdev_open_by_*() via struct bdev_handle bdev_file_open_by_*() is made to just return a struct file. Opening and closing a block device just becomes equivalent to opening and closing a file. This all works well because internally we already have a pseudo fs for block devices and so opening block devices is simple. There's a few places where we needed to be careful such as during boot when the kernel is supposed to mount the rootfs directly without init doing it. Here we need to take care to ensure that we flush out any asynchronous file close. That's what we already do for opening, unpacking, and closing the initramfs. So nothing new here. The equivalence of opening and closing block devices to regular files is a win in and of itself. But it also has various other advantages. We can remove struct bdev_handle completely. Various low-level helpers are now private to the block layer. Other helpers were simply removable completely. A follow-up series that is already reviewed build on this and makes it possible to remove bdev->bd_inode and allows various clean ups of the buffer head code as well. All places where we stashed a bdev_handle now just stash a file and use simple accessors to get to the actual block device which was already the case for bdev_handle" * tag 'vfs-6.9.super' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs: (35 commits) block: remove bdev_handle completely block: don't rely on BLK_OPEN_RESTRICT_WRITES when yielding write access bdev: remove bdev pointer from struct bdev_handle bdev: make struct bdev_handle private to the block layer bdev: make bdev_{release, open_by_dev}() private to block layer bdev: remove bdev_open_by_path() reiserfs: port block device access to file ocfs2: port block device access to file nfs: port block device access to files jfs: port block device access to file f2fs: port block device access to files ext4: port block device access to file erofs: port device access to file btrfs: port device access to file bcachefs: port block device access to file target: port block device access to file s390: port block device access to file nvme: port block device access to file block2mtd: port device access to files bcache: port block device access to files ... |

fs: super_set_uuid()
Some weird old filesytems have UUID-like things that we wish to expose as UUIDs, but are smaller; add a length field so that the new FS_IOC_(GET|SET)UUID ioctls can handle them in generic code. And add a helper super_set_uuid(), for setting nonstandard length uuids. Helper is now required for the new FS_IOC_GETUUID ioctl; if super_set_uuid() hasn't been called, the ioctl won't be supported. filelock: split common fields into struct file_lock_core
In a future patch, we're going to split file leases into their own structure. Since a lot of the underlying machinery uses the same fields move those into a new file_lock_core, and embed that inside struct file_lock. For now, add some macros to ensure that we can continue to build while the conversion is in progress. quota: Set nofs allocation context when acquiring dqio_sem
dqio_sem can be acquired during inode reclaim through dquot_drop() -> dqput() -> dquot_release() -> write_file_info() context. In some cases (most notably through dquot_get_next_id()) it can be acquired without holding dquot->dq_lock (which already sets nofs allocation context). sysctl-6.8-rc1
To help make the move of sysctls out of kernel/sysctl.c not incur a size penalty sysctl has been changed to allow us to not require the sentinel, the final empty element on the sysctl array. Joel Granados has been doing all this work. On the v6.6 kernel we got the major infrastructure changes required to support this. For v6.7 we had all arch/ and drivers/ modified to remove the sentinel. For v6.8-rc1 we get a few more updates for fs/ directory only. The kernel/ directory is left but we'll save that for v6.9-rc1 as those patches are still being reviewed. After that we then can expect also the removal of the no longer needed check for procname == NULL. Let us recap the purpose of this work: - this helps reduce the overall build time size of the kernel and run time memory consumed by the kernel by about ~64 bytes per array - the extra 64-byte penalty is no longer inncurred now when we move sysctls out from kernel/sysctl.c to their own files Thomas Weißschuh also sent a few cleanups, for v6.9-rc1 we expect to see further work by Thomas Weißschuh with the constificatin of the struct ctl_table. Due to Joel Granados's work, and to help bring in new blood, I have suggested for him to become a maintainer and he's accepted. So for v6.9-rc1 I look forward to seeing him sent you a pull request for further sysctl changes. dlm for 6.8
This set cleans up the interface between nfs lockd and dlm, which is handling nfs file locking for gfs2 and ocfs2. Very basic lockd functionality is fixed, in which the fl owner was using the lockd pid instead of the owner value from nfs. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEEcGkeEvkvjdvlR90nOBtzx/yAaaoFAmWDZFwACgkQOBtzx/yA aapu/hAAx/9ahq4Vm+T7Lpw6wGEKISUi5djZlqrN7EddHcyAMFFX/41PkOez9KJT Rr4Mp+MBB6xjDDco4uVZxhnWJCI6RKExSB4N+eMx0Rhs09Ksf8UCtxTvKaDa18fr ZwPmGNpE/a3khTkwC5h/98m8kOyYIqSOL8/cR8zGytkHkgDiyv4VqD0cHAvwxR5a O8jQDtssXld6sF5GxhVQnLQiu0eVfFLlaaSsb28ju+yMPVOTDxmwNkP3eP+8d1le lcNp82+C7UmzO5Ds1/SgBIJZoej/xipz00BAlGH1oieD4xRLCbkoJSQsGxpkPwEI I1V8fd7zaFQ1VnDHMeMrjl46qjUQKkCfDK/v9BCvN5x8sCqaqUydMQ0mD/424NXe A/JgjAtloIhIOqmX/K/h4jioTrFlVevtTAr9Cv/sq31VX0+ALJVS3ccbhv68gjiW Cflef7Va53mXYfIAs6qc60/ArpvrPUG7Bna4aIb5iVJj4z/OOjnTxyZVOD3wJetY bs4w2dSrafX589EN/gIyKka3iOMcJS7wVsvRME9KYVikNbHgQrSpsixHPlLdjGq+ cHbozutVQYnhaGI608yMjPZ+rXu5jYEfAIQnI8FABbi4VR29+SnzxrZllMICUZ+Y pfRQ6YkiuBRy2HSbnwudemj6iSrPqZEts2GDkqj2LDfkMWeycKM= =UBeR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'dlm-6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/teigland/linux-dlm Pull dlm updates from David Teigland: "This set cleans up the interface between nfs lockd and dlm, which is handling nfs file locking for gfs2 and ocfs2. fs: convert block_write_full_page to block_write_full_folio
Convert the function to be compatible with writepage_t so that it can be passed to write_cache_pages() by blkdev. This removes a call to compound_head(). We can also remove the function export as both callers are built-in. fs: Remove the now superfluous sentinel elements from ctl_table array
This commit comes at the tail end of a greater effort to remove the empty elements at the end of the ctl_table arrays (sentinels) which will reduce the overall build time size of the kernel and run time memory bloat by ~64 bytes per sentinel (further information Link : https://lore.kernel.org/all/ZO5Yx5JFogGi%2FcBo@bombadil.infradead.org/) Remove sentinel elements ctl_table struct. Special attention was placed in making sure that an empty directory for fs/verity was created when CONFIG_FS_VERITY_BUILTIN_SIGNATURES is not defined. In this case we use the register sysctl call that expects a size. Signed-off-by: Joel Granados <j.granados@samsung.com> Reviewed-by: Jan Kara <jack@suse.cz> Reviewed-by: "Darrick J. ocfs2: replace BUG_ON() at ocfs2_num_free_extents() with ocfs2_error()
The BUG_ON() at ocfs2_num_free_extents() handles the error that l_tree_deepth of leaf extent block just read form disk is invalid. This error is mostly caused by file system metadata corruption on the disk. There is no need to call BUG_ON() to handle such errors. We can return error code, since the caller can deal with errors from ocfs2_num_free_extents(). Also, we should make the file system read-only to avoid the damage from expanding. Therefore, BUG_ON() is removed and ocfs2_error() is called instead. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated [1]. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely [2], replace strlcpy() here with sysfs_emit().
