mm, arch: add generic implementation of pfn_valid() for FLATMEM
Every architecture that supports FLATMEM memory model defines its own version of pfn_valid() that essentially compares a pfn to max_mapnr. Use mips/powerpc version implemented as static inline as a generic implementation of pfn_valid() and drop its per-architecture definitions. __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE is now supported by all architectures that support swp PTEs, so let's drop it. Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20230113171026.582290-27-david@redhat.com Signed-off-by: David Hildenbrand <david@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> |

sh/mm: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE
Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE by using bit 6 in the PTE, reducing the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case to 5 bits. Generic MM currently only uses 5 bits for the type (MAX_SWAPFILES_SHIFT), so the stolen bit is effectively unused. Interrestingly, the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case could currently overlap with the _PAGE_PRESENT bit, because there is a sneaky shift by 1 in __pte_to_swp_entry() and __swp_entry_to_pte(). Bit 0-7 in the architecture specific swap PTE would get shifted to bit 1-8 in the PTE. As generic MM uses 5 bits only, this didn't matter so far. While at it, mask the type in __swp_entry(). gpio: Remove unused and obsoleted irq_to_gpio()
irq_to_gpio() is legacy and unused API, remove it for good. This leaves gpio_to_irq() as it's used yet in many places. Nevertheless, removal of its counterpart is a good signal to whoever even trying to consider using them that do not. stackprotector: actually use get_random_canary()
The RNG always mixes in the Linux version extremely early in boot. It also always includes a cycle counter, not only during early boot, but each and every time it is invoked prior to being fully initialized. Together, this means that the use of additional xors inside of the various stackprotector.h files is superfluous and over-complicated. Instead, we can get exactly the same thing, but better, by just calling `get_random_canary()`. mm: remove kern_addr_valid() completely
Most architectures (except arm64/x86/sparc) simply return 1 for kern_addr_valid(), which is only used in read_kcore(), and it calls copy_from_kernel_nofault() which could check whether the address is a valid kernel address. So as there is no need for kern_addr_valid(), let's remove it. Pull kernel hardening updates from Kees Cook:
"Most of the collected changes here are fixes across the tree for
various hardening features (details noted below).
The most notable new feature here is the addition of the memcpy()
overflow warning (under CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE), which is the next step
on the path to killing the common class of "trivially detectable"
buffer overflow conditions (i.e. on arrays with sizes known at compile
time) that have resulted in many exploitable vulnerabilities over the
years (e.g. BleedingTooth).
This feature is expected to still have some undiscovered false
positives. It's been in -next for a full development cycle and all the
reported false positives have been fixed in their respective trees.
All the known-bad code patterns we could find with Coccinelle are also
either fixed in their respective trees or in flight.

perf/hw_breakpoint: Optimize constant number of breakpoint slots
Optimize internal hw_breakpoint state if the architecture's number of breakpoint slots is constant. This avoids several kmalloc() calls and potentially unnecessary failures if the allocations fail, as well as subtly improves code generation and cache locality. The protocol is that if an architecture defines hw_breakpoint_slots via the preprocessor, it must be constant and the same for all types. PCI: Move isa_dma_bridge_buggy out of asm/dma.h
The isa_dma_bridge_buggy symbol is only used for x86_32, and only x86_32 platforms or quirks ever set it. Add a new linux/isa-dma.h header that #defines isa_dma_bridge_buggy to 0 except on x86_32, where we keep it as a variable, and remove all the arch- specific definitions. PCI: Remove pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() and asm-generic/pci.h
pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is only used on platforms that support PNP, so many architectures define it but never use it. Replace uses of it with ATA_PRIMARY_IRQ() and ATA_SECONDARY_IRQ(), which provide the same functionality. Since pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is no longer used, remove all the architecture-specific definitions of it as well as asm-generic/pci.h, which only provides pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() [bhelgaas: commit log] Co-developed-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220722214944.831438-2-shorne@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Stafford Horne <shorne@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> Reviewed-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Acked-by: Pierre Morel <pmorel@linux.ibm.com> Acked-by: Rafael J. sh/mm: enable ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT
This enables ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT on the platform and exports standard vm_get_page_prot() implementation via DECLARE_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT, which looks up a private and static protection_map[] array. bitops: unify non-atomic bitops prototypes across architectures
Currently, there is a mess with the prototypes of the non-atomic bitops across the different architectures: ret bool, int, unsigned long nr int, long, unsigned int, unsigned long addr volatile unsigned long *, volatile void * Thankfully, it doesn't provoke any bugs, but can sometimes make the compiler angry when it's not handy at all. Adjust all the prototypes to the following standard: ret bool retval can be only 0 or 1 nr unsigned long native; signed makes no sense addr volatile unsigned long * bitmaps are arrays of ulongs Next, some architectures don't define 'arch_' versions as they don't support instrumentation, others do. To make sure there is always the same set of callables present and to ease any potential future changes, make them all follow the rule: * architecture-specific files define only 'arch_' versions; * non-prefixed versions can be defined only in asm-generic files; and place the non-prefixed definitions into a new file in asm-generic to be included by non-instrumented architectures. Finally, add some static assertions in order to prevent people from making a mess in this room again. I also used the %__always_inline attribute consistently, so that they always get resolved to the actual operations. mm: change huge_ptep_clear_flush() to return the original pte
Patch series "Fix CONT-PTE/PMD size hugetlb issue when unmapping or migrating", v4. presently, migrating a hugetlb page or unmapping a poisoned hugetlb page, we'll use ptep_clear_flush() and set_pte_at() to nuke the page table entry and remap it, and this is incorrect for CONT-PTE or CONT-PMD size hugetlb page, which will cause potential data consistent issue. This patch set will change to use hugetlb related APIs to fix this issue. Note: Mike pointed out the huge_ptep_get() will only return the one specific value, and it would not take into account the dirty or young bits of CONT-PTE/PMDs like the huge_ptep_get_and_clear() [1]. This inconsistent issue is not introduced by this patch set, and this issue will be addressed in another thread [2]. Meanwhile the uffd for hugetlb case [3] pointed out by Gerald also needs another patch to address. [1] https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/85bd80b4-b4fd-0d3f-a2e5-149559f2f387@oracle.com/ [2] https://lore.kernel.org/all/cover.1651998586.git.baolin.wang@linux.alibaba.com/ [3] https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/20220503120343.6264e126@thinkpad/ This patch (of 3): It is incorrect to use ptep_clear_flush() to nuke a hugetlb page table when unmapping or migrating a hugetlb page, and will change to use huge_ptep_clear_flush() instead in the following patches. So this is a preparation patch, which changes the huge_ptep_clear_flush() to return the original pte to help to nuke a hugetlb page table. asm-generic updates for 5.18
There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. This was already gone from all major architectures, but now we can finally remove it everywhere, which loses some particularly tricky and error-prone code. There is a small merge conflict against a parisc cleanup, the solution is to use their new version. - The nds32 architecture ends its tenure in the Linux kernel. The hardware is still used and the code is in reasonable shape, but the mainline port is not actively maintained any more, as all remaining users are thought to run vendor kernels that would never be updated to a future release. There are some obvious conflicts against changes to the removed files. - A series from Masahiro Yamada cleans up some of the uapi header files to pass the compile-time checks. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmI69BsACgkQmmx57+YA GNn/zA//f4d5VTT0ThhRxRWTu9BdThGHoB8TUcY7iOhbsWu0X/913NItRC3UeWNl IdmisaXgVtirg1dcC2pWUmrcHdoWOCEGfK4+Zr2NhSWfuZDWvODHK9pGWk4WLnhe cQgUNBvIuuAMryGtrOBwHPO4TpfCyy2ioeVP36ZfcsWXdDxTrqfaq/56mk3sxIP6 sUTk1UEjut9NG4C9xIIvcSU50R3l6LryQE/H9kyTLtaSvfvTOvprcVYCq0GPmSzo DtQ1Wwa9zbJ+4EqoMiP5RrgQwWvOTg2iRByLU8ytwlX3e/SEF0uihvMv1FQbL8zG G8RhGUOKQSEhaBfc3lIkm8GpOVPh0uHzB6zhn7daVmAWtazRD2Nu59BMjipa+ims a8Z58iHH7jRAnKeEkVZqXKb1CEiUxaQx/IeVPzN4QlwMhDtwrI76LY7ZJ1zCqTGY ENG0yRLav1XselYBslOYXGtOEWcY5EZPWqLyWbp4P9vz2g0Fe0gZxoIOvPmNQc89 QnfXpCt7vm/DGkyO255myu08GOLeMkisVqUIzLDB9avlym5mri7T7vk9abBa2YyO CRpTL5gl1/qKPWuH1UI5mvhT+sbbBE2SUHSuy84btns39ZKKKynwCtdu+hSQkKLE h9pV30Gf1cLTD4JAE0RWlUgOmbBLVp34loTOexQj4MrLM1noOnw= =vtCN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. arch: Add pmd_pfn() where it is missing
We need to use this function in common code, so define it for architectures and/or configrations that miss it. The result of pmd_pfn() will only be used if TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE is enabled, but a function or macro called pmd_pfn() must be defined, even on machines with two level page tables. sh: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support
sh uses set_fs/get_fs only in one file, to handle address errors in both user and kernel memory. It already has an abstraction to differentiate between I/O and memory, so adding a third class for kernel memory fits into the same scheme and lets us kill off CONFIG_SET_FS. uaccess: generalize access_ok()
There are many different ways that access_ok() is defined across architectures, but in the end, they all just compare against the user_addr_max() value or they accept anything. Provide one definition that works for most architectures, checking against TASK_SIZE_MAX for user processes or skipping the check inside of uaccess_kernel() sections. For architectures without CONFIG_SET_FS(), this should be the fastest check, as it comes down to a single comparison of a pointer against a compile-time constant, while the architecture specific versions tend to do something more complex for historic reasons or get something wrong. Type checking for __user annotations is handled inconsistently across architectures, but this is easily simplified as well by using an inline function that takes a 'const void __user *' argument. A handful of callers need an extra __user annotation for this. Some architectures had trick to use 33-bit or 65-bit arithmetic on the addresses to calculate the overflow, however this simpler version uses fewer registers, which means it can produce better object code in the end despite needing a second (statically predicted) branch. treewide: Replace zero-length arrays with flexible-array members
There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should no longer be used[2]. This code was transformed with the help of Coccinelle: (next-20220214$ spatch --jobs $(getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN) --sp-file script.cocci --include-headers --dir . > output.patch) @@ identifier S, member, array; type T1, T2; @@ struct S { ... locking: Allow to include asm/spinlock_types.h from linux/spinlock_types_raw.h
The printk header file includes ratelimit_types.h for its __ratelimit() based usage. It is required for the static initializer used in printk_ratelimited(). It uses a raw_spinlock_t and includes the spinlock_types.h. PREEMPT_RT substitutes spinlock_t with a rtmutex based implementation and so its spinlock_t implmentation (provided by spinlock_rt.h) includes rtmutex.h and atomic.h which leads to recursive includes where defines are missing. By including only the raw_spinlock_t defines it avoids the atomic.h related includes at this stage. Add linux/cacheflush.h
Many architectures do not include asm-generic/cacheflush.h, so turn
the includes on their head and add linux/cacheflush.h which includes
asm/cacheflush.h.
Move the flush_dcache_folio() declaration from asm-generic/cacheflush.h
to linux/cacheflush.h and change linux/highmem.h to include
linux/cacheflush.h instead of asm/cacheflush.h so that all necessary
places will see flush_dcache_folio().
More functions should have their default implementations moved in the
future, but those are for follow-on patches. This fixes csky, sparc and
sparc64 which were missed in the commit which added flush_dcache_folio().

Scheduler updates:
- Revert the printk format based wchan() symbol resolution as it can leak the raw value in case that the symbol is not resolvable. - Make wchan() more robust and work with all kind of unwinders by enforcing that the task stays blocked while unwinding is in progress. - Prevent sched_fork() from accessing an invalid sched_task_group - Improve asymmetric packing logic - Extend scheduler statistics to RT and DL scheduling classes and add statistics for bandwith burst to the SCHED_FAIR class. - Properly account SCHED_IDLE entities - Prevent a potential deadlock when initial priority is assigned to a newly created kthread. A recent change to plug a race between cpuset and __sched_setscheduler() introduced a new lock dependency which is now triggered. Break the lock dependency chain by moving the priority assignment to the thread function. - Fix the idle time reporting in /proc/uptime for NOHZ enabled systems. - Improve idle balancing in general and especially for NOHZ enabled systems. - Provide proper interfaces for live patching so it does not have to fiddle with scheduler internals. - Add cluster aware scheduling support. - A small set of tweaks for RT (irqwork, wait_task_inactive(), various scheduler options and delaying mmdrop) - The usual small tweaks and improvements all over the place -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJHBAABCgAxFiEEQp8+kY+LLUocC4bMphj1TA10mKEFAmF/OUkTHHRnbHhAbGlu dXRyb25peC5kZQAKCRCmGPVMDXSYoR/5D/9ikdGNpKg9osNqJ3GjAmxsK6kVkB29 iFe2k8pIpWDToWQf/wQRGih4Yj3Cl49QSnZcPIibh2/12EB1qrrW6iSPJkInz8Ec /1LS5/Vewn2OyoxyXZjdvGC5gTXEodSbIazASvX7nvdMeI4gsAsL5etzrMJirT/t aymqvr7zovvywrwMTQJrGjUMo9l4ewE8tafMNNhRu1BHU1U4ojM9yvThyRAAcmp7 3Xy49A+Yq3IgrvYI4u8FMK5Zh08KaxSFjiLhePGm/bF+wSfYmWop2TP1jY05W2Uo ti8hfbJMUoFRYuMxAiEldkItnc0wV4M9PtWZZ/x+B71bs65Y4Zjt9cW+rxJv2+m1 vzV31EsQwGnOti072dzWN4c/cZqngVXAjaNtErvDwJUr+Tw1ayv9KUvuodMQqZY6 mu68bFUO2kV9EMe1CBOv51Uy1RGHyLj3rlNqrkw+Xp5ISE9Ad2vhUEiRp5bQx5Ci V/XFhGZkGUluh0vccrdFlNYZwhj8cZEzkOPCnPSeZ+bq8SyZE6xuHH/lTP1CJCOy s800rW1huM+kgV+zRN8adDkGXibAk9N3RtVGnQXmuEy8gB9LZmQg+JeM2wsc9B+6 i0gdqZnsjNAfoK+BBAG4holxptSL8/eOJsFH8ZNIoxQ+iqooyPx9tFX7yXnRTBQj d2qWG7UvoseT+g== =fgtS -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'sched-core-2021-11-01' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull scheduler updates from Thomas Gleixner: - Revert the printk format based wchan() symbol resolution as it can leak the raw value in case that the symbol is not resolvable. - Properly account SCHED_IDLE entities - Prevent a potential deadlock when initial priority is assigned to a newly created kthread. sh: pgtable-3level: Fix cast to pointer from integer of different size
If X2TLB=y (CPU_SHX2=y or CPU_SHX3=y, e.g. migor_defconfig), pgd_t.pgd
is "unsigned long long", causing:
In file included from arch/sh/include/asm/pgtable.h:13,

from arch/sh/kernel/asm-offsets.c:14:
arch/sh/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h: In function ‘pud_pgtable’:
arch/sh/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h:37:9: warning: cast to pointer from integer of different size [-Wint-to-pointer-cast]

Fix this by adding an intermediate cast to "unsigned long", which is
basically what the old code did before.

sh: define __BIG_ENDIAN for math-emu
Fix this by defining both ENDIAN macros in
<asm/sfp-machine.h> so that they can be utilized in
<math-emu/soft-fp.h> according to the latter's comment:
/* Allow sfp-machine to have its own byte order definitions. */
(This is what is done in arch/nds32/include/asm/sfp-machine.h.)
This placates these build warnings:
In file included from ../arch/sh/math-emu/math.c:23:
.../include/math-emu/single.h:50:21: warning: "__BIG_ENDIAN" is not defined, evaluates to 0 [-Wundef]
