ab28e94419 topology/sysfs: Add PPIN in sysfs under cpu topology
PPIN is the Protected Processor Identification Number.
This is used to identify the socket as a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU).

Existing code only displays this when reporting errors. But this makes
it inconvenient for large clusters to use it for its intended purpose
of inventory control.

Add ppin to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/topology to make what
is already available using RDMSR more easily accessible. Make
the file read only for root in case there are still people
concerned about making a unique system "serial number" available.

182ecfaf75 topology/sysfs: Add format parameter to macro defining "show" functions for proc
All the simple (non-mask and non-list files in
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/topology/ are currently printed as decimal
integers.

Refactor the macro that generates the "show" functions to take a format
parameter to allow future files to display in other formats.

No functional change.

f1045056c7 topology/sysfs: rework book and drawer topology ifdefery
Provide default defines for the topology_book_[id|cpumask] and
topology_drawer_[id|cpumask] macros just like for each other topology
level.
This way all topology levels are handled in a similar way. Still the
the book and drawer levels are only used on s390, and also the sysfs
attributes are only created on s390. However other architectures may
opt in if wanted.

e795707703 topology/sysfs: export cluster attributes only if an architectures has support
The cluster_id and cluster_cpus topology sysfs attributes have been
added with commit c5e22feffd ("topology: Represent clusters of CPUs
within a die").

They are currently only used for x86, arm64, and riscv (via generic
arch topology), however they are still present with bogus default
values for all other architectures. Instead of enforcing such new
sysfs attributes to all architectures, make them only optional visible
if an architecture opts in by defining both the topology_cluster_id
and topology_cluster_cpumask attributes.

This is similar to what was done when the book and drawer topology
levels were introduced: avoid useless and therefore confusing sysfs
attributes for architectures which cannot make use of them.

This should not break any existing applications, since this is a
new interface introduced with the v5.16 merge window.

2c4dcd7fd5 topology/sysfs: export die attributes only if an architectures has support
The die_id and die_cpus topology sysfs attributes have been added with
commit 0e344d8c70 ("cpu/topology: Export die_id") and commit
2e4c54dac7 ("topology: Create core_cpus and die_cpus sysfs attributes").

While they are currently only used and useful for x86 they are still
present with bogus default values for all architectures. Instead of
enforcing such new sysfs attributes to all architectures, make them
only optional visible if an architecture opts in by defining both the
topology_die_id and topology_die_cpumask attributes.

This is similar to what was done when the book and drawer topology
levels were introduced: avoid useless and therefore confusing sysfs
attributes for architectures which cannot make use of them.

This should not break any existing applications, since this is a
rather new interface and applications should be able to handle also
older kernel versions without such attributes - besides that they
contain only useful information for x86.

c5e22feffd topology: Represent clusters of CPUs within a die
Both ACPI and DT provide the ability to describe additional layers of
topology between that of individual cores and higher level constructs
such as the level at which the last level cache is shared.
In ACPI this can be represented in PPTT as a Processor Hierarchy
Node Structure [1] that is the parent of the CPU cores and in turn
has a parent Processor Hierarchy Nodes Structure representing
a higher level of topology.

For example Kunpeng 920 has 6 or 8 clusters in each NUMA node, and each
cluster has 4 cpus. All clusters share L3 cache data, but each cluster
has local L3 tag. On the other hand, each clusters will share some
internal system bus.

That means spreading tasks among clusters will bring more bandwidth
while packing tasks within one cluster will lead to smaller cache
synchronization latency. So both kernel and userspace will have
a chance to leverage this topology to deploy tasks accordingly to
achieve either smaller cache latency within one cluster or an even
distribution of load among clusters for higher throughput.

This patch exposes cluster topology to both kernel and userspace.
Libraried like hwloc will know cluster by cluster_cpus and related
sysfs attributes. PoC of HWLOC support at [2].

Note this patch only handle the ACPI case.

Special consideration is needed for SMT processors, where it is
necessary to move 2 levels up the hierarchy from the leaf nodes
(thus skipping the processor core level).

Note that arm64 / ACPI does not provide any means of identifying
a die level in the topology but that may be unrelate to the cluster
level.

bb9ec13d15 topology: use bin_attribute to break the size limitation of cpumap ABI
Reading /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/ returns cpu topology.
However, the size of this file is limited to PAGE_SIZE because of
the limitation for sysfs attribute.
This patch moves to use bin_attribute to extend the ABI to be more
than one page so that cpumap bitmask and list won't be potentially
trimmed.

b73ed8dc05 topology: Create package_cpus sysfs attribute
The existing sysfs cpu/topology/core_siblings (and core_siblings_list)
attributes are documented, implemented, and used by programs to represent
set of logical CPUs sharing the same package.

This makes sense if the next topology level above a core is always a
package. But on systems where there is a die topology level between a core
and a package, the name and its definition become inconsistent.

So without changing its function, add a name for this map that describes
what it actually is -- package CPUs -- the set of CPUs that share the same
package.

This new name will be immune to changes in topology, since it describes
threads at the current level, not siblings at a contained level.

Now that the SPDX tag is in all driver core files, that identifies the
license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text

This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in
the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff
like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never
needed.

No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed.

a62247e1f5 topology/sysfs: provide drawer id and siblings attributes
The s390 cpu topology gained another hierarchy level. The top level is
now called drawer and contains several books. A book used to be the
top level.

In order to expose the cpu topology to user space allow to create new
sysfs attributes dependent on CONFIG_SCHED_DRAWER which an
architecture may define and select.

These additional attributes will be available:

/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/drawer_id
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/drawer_siblings
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/drawer_siblings_list

This patch creates a new helper function cpumap_print_to_pagebuf in

The topology_##name() macro does not use its argument when CONFIG_SMP is not

So we avoid maintaining a possibly unused `cpu' variable, to avoid the

  drivers/base/topology.c: In function ‘show_physical_package_id’:

467a9e1633 CPU hotplug notifiers registration fixes for 3.15-rc1
The purpose of this single series of commits from Srivatsa S Bhat (with
 a small piece from Gautham R Shenoy) touching multiple subsystems that use
 CPU hotplug notifiers is to provide a way to register them that will not
 lead to deadlocks with CPU online/offline operations as described in the
 changelog of commit 93ae4f978c (CPU hotplug: Provide lockless versions
 of callback registration functions).

 The first three commits in the series introduce the API and document it
 and the rest simply goes through the users of CPU hotplug notifiers and
 converts them to using the new method.

e12b711196 drivers/base/topology.c: Fix CPU hotplug callback registration
Subsystems that want to register CPU hotplug callbacks, as well as perform
initialization for the CPUs that are already online, often do it as shown
below:

	get_online_cpus();

	for_each_online_cpu(cpu)
		init_cpu(cpu);

	register_cpu_notifier(&foobar_cpu_notifier);

	put_online_cpus();

This is wrong, since it is prone to ABBA deadlocks involving the
cpu_add_remove_lock and the cpu_hotplug.lock (when running concurrently
with CPU hotplug operations).

Instead, the correct and race-free way of performing the callback
registration is:

	cpu_notifier_register_begin();

	for_each_online_cpu(cpu)
		init_cpu(cpu);

	/* Note the use of the double underscored version of the API */
	__register_cpu_notifier(&foobar_cpu_notifier);

	cpu_notifier_register_done();

Fix the topology code by using this latter form of callback registration.

29f1953d51 cpu topology: remove stale arch_provides_topology_pointers and define_siblings_show_map/list()
arch_provides_topology_pointers was introduced in commit 23ca4bba3 (x86:
cleanup early per cpu variables/accesses v4) to indicate pointers to the
topology cpumask_t maps are valid to avoid copying data on to/off of the
stack.

But later in commit fbd59a8d (cpumask: Use topology_core_cpumask()/
topology_thread_cpumask()), the pointers to the topology struct cpumask maps
are always valid.

After that commit, the only difference is that there is a redundant
"unsigned int cpu = dev->id;" if arch_provides_topology_pointers defined, but
dev->id is type 'u32' which devolves to 'unsigned int' on all supported arches.
So this arch_provides_topology_pointers define is pointless and only cause
obfuscation now, remove it.

Tested on x86 machine, topology information in sys/devices/system/cpu/
cpuX/topology/ is the same after appling this patch set.

a83048ebd4 drivers: delete __cpuinit usage from all remaining drivers files
The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense
some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings
do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in
commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time")
is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created
with improper use of the various __init prefixes.

After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go
the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone,
we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h.

This removes all the remaining one-off uses of the __cpuinit macros
from all C files in the drivers/* directory.

8a25a2fd12 cpu: convert 'cpu' and 'machinecheck' sysdev_class to a regular subsystem
This moves the 'cpu sysdev_class' over to a regular 'cpu' subsystem

After all sysdev classes are ported to regular driver core entities, the
sysdev implementation will be entirely removed from the kernel.

Userspace relies on events and generic sysfs subsystem infrastructure
from sysdev devices, which are made available with this conversion.

b13d3720ec topology: Fix sparc64 build.
Due to changeset ba84be2338 ("remove
linux/hardirq.h from asm-generic/local.h") the sparc64 build started
failing on drivers/base/topology.c:

  drivers/base/topology.c: In function ‘show_physical_package_id’:
  drivers/base/topology.c:103: error: implicit declaration of function ‘cpu_data’
  drivers/base/topology.c:103: error: request for member ‘proc_id’ in something not a structure or union
  drivers/base/topology.c: In function ‘show_core_id’:
  drivers/base/topology.c:106: error: request for member ‘core_id’ in something not a structure or union

Adding the obvious fix of including asm/cpudata.h into asm/topology.h on
sparc64 doesn't fix it, in fact it makes things worse because of the
header file dependency chain:

	linux/gfp.h --> linux/mmzone.h --> linux/topology.h -->
	asm/topology.h --> asm/cpudata.h --> linux/percpu.h -->
	linux/slab.h

which results in:

  include/linux/slub_def.h: In function ‘kmalloc_large’:
  include/linux/slub_def.h:209: error: implicit declaration of function ‘__get_free_pages’
  include/linux/slub_def.h:209: error: ‘__GFP_COMP’ undeclared (first use in this function)
  include/linux/slub_def.h:209: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
  include/linux/slub_def.h:209: error: for each function it appears in.)
  include/linux/slub_def.h:209: warning: cast to pointer from integer of different size

of the guilty changeset did, by putting an explicit linux/hardirq.h

4a0b2b4dbe sysdev: Pass the attribute to the low level sysdev show/store function
This allow to dynamically generate attributes and share show/store
functions between attributes. Right now most attributes are generated
by special macros and lots of duplicated code. With the attribute
passed it's instead possible to attach some data to the attribute
and then use that in shared low level functions to do different things.

I need this for the dynamically generated bank attributes in the x86

I converted all users in tree to the new show/store prototype. It's a single
huge patch to avoid unbisectable sections.

23ca4bba3e x86: cleanup early per cpu variables/accesses v4
* Introduce a new PER_CPU macro called "EARLY_PER_CPU". This is
    used by some per_cpu variables that are initialized and accessed
    before there are per_cpu areas allocated.

    ["Early" in respect to per_cpu variables is "earlier than the per_cpu
    areas have been setup".]

    This patchset adds these new macros:

	DEFINE_EARLY_PER_CPU(_type, _name, _initvalue)
	EXPORT_EARLY_PER_CPU_SYMBOL(_name)
	DECLARE_EARLY_PER_CPU(_type, _name)

	early_per_cpu_ptr(_name)
	early_per_cpu_map(_name, _idx)
	early_per_cpu(_name, _cpu)

    The DEFINE macro defines the per_cpu variable as well as the early
    map and pointer. It also initializes the per_cpu variable and map
    elements to "_initvalue". The early_* macros provide access to
    the initial map (usually setup during system init) and the early
    pointer. This pointer is initialized to point to the early map
    but is then NULL'ed when the actual per_cpu areas are setup. After
    that the per_cpu variable is the correct access to the variable.

    The early_per_cpu() macro is not very efficient but does show how to
    access the variable if you have a function that can be called both
    "early" and "late". It tests the early ptr to be NULL, and if not
    then it's still valid. Otherwise, the per_cpu variable is used
    instead:

	#define early_per_cpu(_name, _cpu) 			\
		(early_per_cpu_ptr(_name) ?			\
			early_per_cpu_ptr(_name)[_cpu] :	\
			per_cpu(_name, _cpu))

    A better method is to actually check the pointer manually. In the
    case below, numa_set_node can be called both "early" and "late":

	void __cpuinit numa_set_node(int cpu, int node)
	{
	    int *cpu_to_node_map = early_per_cpu_ptr(x86_cpu_to_node_map);

	    if (cpu_to_node_map)
		    cpu_to_node_map[cpu] = node;
	    else
		    per_cpu(x86_cpu_to_node_map, cpu) = node;
	}

  * Add a flag "arch_provides_topology_pointers" that indicates pointers
    to topology cpumask_t maps are available. Otherwise, use the function
    returning the cpumask_t value. This is useful if cpumask_t set size
    is very large to avoid copying data on to/off of the stack.

  * The coverage of CONFIG_DEBUG_PER_CPU_MAPS has been increased while
    the non-debug case has been optimized a bit.

  * Remove an unreferenced compiler warning in drivers/base/topology.c

  * Clean up #ifdef in setup.c

c50cbb05a0 cpu topology: always define CPU topology information
This can result in an empty topology directory in sysfs, and requires
in-kernel users to protect all uses with #ifdef - see
<http://marc.info/?l=linux-netdev&m=120639033904472&w=2>.

The documentation of CPU topology specifies what the defaults should be if
only partial information is available from the hardware. So we can
provide these defaults as a fallback.

This patch:

- Adds default definitions of the 4 topology macros to <linux/topology.h>
- Changes drivers/base/topology.c to use the topology macros unconditionally
  and to cope with definitions that aren't lvalues
- Updates documentation accordingly

8bb7844286 Add suspend-related notifications for CPU hotplug
Since nonboot CPUs are now disabled after tasks and devices have been
frozen and the CPU hotplug infrastructure is used for this purpose, we need
special CPU hotplug notifications that will help the CPU-hotplug-aware
subsystems distinguish normal CPU hotplug events from CPU hotplug events
related to a system-wide suspend or resume operation in progress. This
patch introduces such notifications and causes them to be used during
suspend and resume transitions. It also changes all of the
CPU-hotplug-aware subsystems to take these notifications into consideration
(for now they are handled in the same way as the corresponding "normal"
ones).

0231606785 [PATCH] hotplug CPU: clean up hotcpu_notifier() use
There was lots of #ifdef noise in the kernel due to hotcpu_notifier(fn,
prio) not correctly marking 'fn' as used in the !HOTPLUG_CPU case, and thus
generating compiler warnings of unused symbols, hence forcing people to add
#ifdefs.

the compiler can skip truly unused functions just fine:

06a4bcae1f cpu topology: consider sysfs_create_group return value
Take return value of sysfs_create_group() into account. That function got
called in case of CPU_ONLINE notification. Since callbacks are not allowed
to fail on CPU_ONLINE notification do the sysfs group creation on
CPU_UP_PREPARE notification.

Also remember if creation succeeded in a bitmask. So it's possible to know
whether it's legal to call sysfs_remove_group or not.

In addition some other minor stuff:

- since CPU_UP_PREPARE might fail add CPU_UP_CANCELED handling as well.
- use hotcpu_notifier instead of register_hotcpu_notifier.
- #ifdef code that isn't needed in the !CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU case.

9c7b216d23 [PATCH] cpu hotplug: revert init patch submitted for 2.6.17
In 2.6.17, there was a problem with cpu_notifiers and XFS. I provided a
band-aid solution to solve that problem. In the process, i undid all the
changes you both were making to ensure that these notifiers were available
only at init time (unless CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is defined).

We deferred the real fix to 2.6.18. Here is a set of patches that fixes the
XFS problem cleanly and makes the cpu notifiers available only at init time
(unless CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is defined).

If CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is defined then cpu notifiers are available at run
time.

This patch reverts the notifier_call changes made in 2.6.17

83d722f7e1 [PATCH] Remove __devinit and __cpuinit from notifier_call definitions
Few of the notifier_chain_register() callers use __init in the definition
of notifier_call. It is incorrect as the function definition should be
available after the initializations (they do not unregister them during
initializations).

This patch fixes all such usages to _not_ have the notifier_call __init
section.

69dcc99199 [PATCH] Export cpu topology in sysfs
The patch implements cpu topology exportation by sysfs.

Items (attributes) are similar to /proc/cpuinfo.

1) /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/physical_package_id:
	represent the physical package id of  cpu X;
2) /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/core_id:
	represent the cpu core id to cpu X;
3) /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/thread_siblings:
	represent the thread siblings to cpu X in the same core;
4) /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/topology/core_siblings:
	represent the thread siblings to cpu X in the same physical package;

To implement it in an architecture-neutral way, a new source file,
driver/base/topology.c, is to export the 5 attributes.

If one architecture wants to support this feature, it just needs to
implement 4 defines, typically in file include/asm-XXX/topology.h.
The 4 defines are:
#define topology_physical_package_id(cpu)
#define topology_core_id(cpu)
#define topology_thread_siblings(cpu)
#define topology_core_siblings(cpu)

The type of **_id is int.
The type of siblings is cpumask_t.

To be consistent on all architectures, the 4 attributes should have
deafult values if their values are unavailable. Below is the rule.

1) physical_package_id: If cpu has no physical package id, -1 is the
default value.

2) core_id: If cpu doesn't support multi-core, its core id is 0.

3) thread_siblings: Just include itself, if the cpu doesn't support
HT/multi-thread.

4) core_siblings: Just include itself, if the cpu doesn't support
multi-core and HT/Multi-thread.

So be careful when declaring the 4 defines in include/asm-XXX/topology.h.

If an attribute isn't defined on an architecture, it won't be exported.

Thank Nathan, Greg, Andi, Paul and Venki.

The patch provides defines for i386/x86_64/ia64.
