c27e6183c6 maple_tree: remove unneeded mas_wr_walk() in mas_store_prealloc()
Users of mas_store_prealloc() enter this function with nodes already
preallocated. This means the store type must be already set. We can then
remove the call to mas_wr_store_type() and initialize the write state to
continue the partial walk that was done when determining the store type.

4037d44f54 maple_tree: have mas_store() allocate nodes if needed
Not all users of mas_store() enter with nodes already preallocated.
Check for the MA_STATE_PREALLOC flag to decide whether to preallocate nodes
within mas_store() rather than relying on future write helper functions
to perform the allocations. This allows the write helper functions to be
simplified as they do not have to do checks to make sure there are
enough allocated nodes to perform the write.

62c7b2b984 maple_tree: simplify mas_commit_b_node()
The only callers of mas_commit_b_node() are those with store type of
wr_rebalance and wr_split_store. Use mas->store_type to dispatch to the
correct helper function. This allows the removal of mas_reuse_node() as
it is no longer used.

1fd7c4f322 maple_tree: convert mas_insert() to preallocate nodes
By setting the store type in mas_insert(), we no longer need to use
mas_wr_modify() to determine the correct store function to use. Instead,
set the store type and call mas_wr_store_entry(). Also, pass in the
requested gfp flags to mas_insert() so they can be passed to the call to
mas_wr_preallocate().

580fcbd67c maple_tree: use store type in mas_wr_store_entry()
When storing an entry, we can read the store type that was set from a
previous partial walk of the tree. Now that the type of store is known,
select the correct write helper function to use to complete the store.

Also noinline mas_wr_spanning_store() to limit stack frame usage in
mas_wr_store_entry() as it allocates a maple_big_node on the stack.

5d659bbb52 maple_tree: introduce mas_wr_store_type()
Introduce mas_wr_store_type() which will set the correct store type based
on a walk of the tree.  In mas_wr_node_store() the <= min_slots condition
is changed to < as if new_end is = to mt_min_slots then there is not
enough room.

mas_prealloc_calc() is also introduced to abstract the calculation used to
determine the number of nodes needed for a store operation.

In this change a call to mas_reset() is removed in the error case of
mas_prealloc().  This is only needed in the MA_STATE_REBALANCE case of
mas_destroy().  We can move the call to mas_reset() directly to
mas_destroy().

Also, add a test case to validate the order that we check the store type
in is correct.  This test models a vma expanding and then shrinking which
is part of the boot process.

617f8e4d76 maple_tree: add test to replicate low memory race conditions
Add new callback fields to the userspace implementation of struct
kmem_cache.  This allows for executing callback functions in order to
further test low memory scenarios where node allocation is retried.

This callback can help test race conditions by calling a function when a
low memory event is tested.

e1b8b883bb maple_tree: reset mas->index and mas->last on write retries
The following scenario can result in a race condition:

Consider a node with the following indices and values

	a<------->b<----------->c<--------->d
	    0xA        NULL          0xB

	CPU 1			  CPU 2
      ---------        		---------
	mas_set_range(a,b)
	mas_erase()
		-> range is expanded (a,c) because of null expansion

	mas_nomem()
	mas_unlock()
				mas_store_range(b,c,0xC)

The node now looks like:

	a<------->b<----------->c<--------->d
	    0xA        0xC          0xB

	mas_lock()
	mas_erase() <------ range of erase is still (a,c)

The node is now NULL from (a,c) but the write from CPU 2 should have been
retained and range (b,c) should still have 0xC as its value.  We can fix
this by re-intializing to the original index and last.  This does not need
a cc: Stable as there are no users of the maple tree which use internal
locking and this condition is only possible with internal locking.

955a923d28 maple_tree: fix mas_empty_area_rev() null pointer dereference
Currently the code calls mas_start() followed by mas_data_end() if the
maple state is MA_START, but mas_start() may return with the maple state
node == NULL.  This will lead to a null pointer dereference when checking
information in the NULL node, which is done in mas_data_end().

Avoid setting the offset if there is no node by waiting until after the
maple state is checked for an empty or single entry state.

A user could trigger the events to cause a kernel oops by unmapping all
vmas to produce an empty maple tree, then mapping a vma that would cause
the scenario described above.

   lru list" which provides measurable runtime benefits in some

 - zswap cleanups and simplifications from Yosry Ahmed in the series "mm:

 - In the series "Add DAX ABI for memmap_on_memory", Vishal Verma has
   contributed several DAX cleanups as well as adding a sysfs tunable to
   control the memmap_on_memory setting when the dax device is hotplugged

   which does that.

   wherein we allocate memory across nodes in a weighted fashion rather
   than uniformly.  This is beneficial in heterogeneous memory environments
   appearing with CXL.
 
 - Christophe Leroy has contributed some cleanup and consolidation work
   against the ARM pagetable dumping code in the series "mm: ptdump:
   Refactor CONFIG_DEBUG_WX and check_wx_pages debugfs attribute".
 
 - Luis Chamberlain has added some additional xarray selftesting in the
   series "test_xarray: advanced API multi-index tests".
 
 - Muhammad Usama Anjum has reworked the selftest code to make its
   human-readable output conform to the TAP ("Test Anything Protocol")
   format.  Amongst other things, this opens up the use of third-party
   tools to parse and process out selftesting results.
 
 - Ryan Roberts has added fork()-time PTE batching of THP ptes in the
   series "mm/memory: optimize fork() with PTE-mapped THP".  Mainly
   targeted at arm64, this significantly speeds up fork() when the process
   has a large number of pte-mapped folios.
 
 - David Hildenbrand also gets in on the THP pte batching game in his
   series "mm/memory: optimize unmap/zap with PTE-mapped THP".  It
   implements batching during munmap() and other pte teardown situations.
   The microbenchmark improvements are nice.
 
 - And in the series "Transparent Contiguous PTEs for User Mappings" Ryan
   Roberts further utilizes arm's pte's contiguous bit ("contpte
   mappings").  Kernel build times on arm64 improved nicely.  Ryan's series
   "Address some contpte nits" provides some followup work.
 
 - In the series "mm/hugetlb: Restore the reservation" Breno Leitao has
   fixed an obscure hugetlb race which was causing unnecessary page faults.
   He has also added a reproducer under the selftest code.
 
 - In the series "selftests/mm: Output cleanups for the compaction test",
   Mark Brown did what the title claims.
 
 - Kinsey Ho has added the series "mm/mglru: code cleanup and refactoring".
 
 - Even more zswap material from Nhat Pham.  The series "fix and extend
   zswap kselftests" does as claimed.
 
 - In the series "Introduce cpu_dcache_is_aliasing() to fix DAX
   regression" Mathieu Desnoyers has cleaned up and fixed rather a mess in
   our handling of DAX on archiecctures which have virtually aliasing data
   caches.  The arm architecture is the main beneficiary.
 
 - Lokesh Gidra's series "per-vma locks in userfaultfd" provides dramatic
   improvements in worst-case mmap_lock hold times during certain
   userfaultfd operations.
 
 - Some page_owner enhancements and maintenance work from Oscar Salvador
   in his series
 
 	"page_owner: print stacks and their outstanding allocations"
 	"page_owner: Fixup and cleanup"
 
 - Uladzislau Rezki has contributed some vmalloc scalability improvements
   in his series "Mitigate a vmap lock contention".  It realizes a 12x
   improvement for a certain microbenchmark.
 
 - Some kexec/crash cleanup work from Baoquan He in the series "Split
   crash out from kexec and clean up related config items".
 
 - Some zsmalloc maintenance work from Chengming Zhou in the series
 
 	"mm/zsmalloc: fix and optimize objects/page migration"
 	"mm/zsmalloc: some cleanup for get/set_zspage_mapping()"
 
 - Zi Yan has taught the MM to perform compaction on folios larger than
   order=0.  This a step along the path to implementaton of the merging of
   large anonymous folios.  The series is named "Enable >0 order folio
   memory compaction".
 
 - Christoph Hellwig has done quite a lot of cleanup work in the
   pagecache writeback code in his series "convert write_cache_pages() to
   an iterator".
 
 - Some modest hugetlb cleanups and speedups in Vishal Moola's series
   "Handle hugetlb faults under the VMA lock".
 
 - Zi Yan has changed the page splitting code so we can split huge pages
   into sizes other than order-0 to better utilize large folios.  The
   series is named "Split a folio to any lower order folios".
 
 - David Hildenbrand has contributed the series "mm: remove
   total_mapcount()", a cleanup.
 
 - Matthew Wilcox has sought to improve the performance of bulk memory
   freeing in his series "Rearrange batched folio freeing".
 
 - Gang Li's series "hugetlb: parallelize hugetlb page init on boot"
   provides large improvements in bootup times on large machines which are
   configured to use large numbers of hugetlb pages.
 
 - Matthew Wilcox's series "PageFlags cleanups" does that.
 
 - Qi Zheng's series "minor fixes and supplement for ptdesc" does that

8689d75000 maple_tree: avoid duplicate variable init in mast_spanning_rebalance()
The local variables r_tmp and l_tmp in mast_spanning_rebalance() are
already initialized at its declaration; there is no need to assign the
value again.

Remove the duplicate initialization of {r,l}_tmp.  No functional change. 
Due to common compiler optimizations, also no change to object code.

This issue was identified with clang-analyzer's dead stores analysis.

7e552dcd80 maple_tree: avoid checking other gaps after getting the largest gap
The last range stored in maple tree is typically quite large.  By checking
if it exceeds the sum of the remaining ranges in that node, it is possible
to avoid checking all other gaps.

Running the maple tree test suite in user mode almost always results in a
near 100% hit rate for this optimization.

4249f13c11 maple_tree: do not preallocate nodes for slot stores
mas_preallocate() defaults to requesting 1 node for preallocation and then
,depending on the type of store, will update the request variable.  There
isn't a check for a slot store type, so slot stores are preallocating the
default 1 node.  Slot stores do not require any additional nodes, so add a
check for the slot store case that will bypass node_count_gfp().  Update
the tests to reflect that slot stores do not require allocations.

User visible effects of this bug include increased memory usage from the
unneeded node that was allocated.

a3c63c8c5d maple_tree: mtree_range_walk() clean up
mtree_range_walk() needed to be updated to avoid checking if there was a
pivot value.  On closer examination, the code could avoid setting min or
max in certain scenarios.  The commit removes the extra check for
pivot[offset] before setting max and only sets max when necessary.  It
also only sets min if it is necessary by checking offset 0 prior to the
loop (as it has always done).

The commit also drops a dead node check since the end of the node will
return the array size when the last slot is occupied (by a potential reuse
in a dead node).  The data will be discarded later if the node is marked
dead.

Benchmarking these changes results in an increase in performance of 5.45%
using the BENCH_WALK in the maple tree test code.

24662decdd maple_tree: don't find node end in mtree_lookup_walk()
Since the pivot being set is now reliable, the optimized loop no longer
needs to find the node end.  The redundant check for a dead node can also
be avoided as there is no danger of using the wrong pivot since the
results will be thrown out in the case of a dead node by the later check.

This patch also adds a benchmark test for the function to the maple tree
test framework.  The benchmark shows an average increase performance of
5.98% over 3 runs with this commit.

067311d33e maple_tree: separate ma_state node from status
The maple tree node is overloaded to keep status as well as the active
node.  This, unfortunately, results in a re-walk on underflow or overflow.
Since the maple state has room, the status can be placed in its own enum
in the structure.  Once an underflow/overflow is detected, certain modes
can restore the status to active and others may need to re-walk just that
one node to see the entry.

The status being an enum has the benefit of detecting unhandled status in
switch statements.

31c532a8af maple_tree: add end of node tracking to the maple state
Analysis of the mas_for_each() iteration showed that there is a
significant time spent finding the end of a node.  This time can be
greatly reduced if the end of the node is cached in the maple state.  Care
must be taken to update & invalidate as necessary.

37a8ab24d3 maple_tree: remove unnecessary default labels from switch statements
Patch series "maple_tree: iterator state changes".

These patches have some general cleanup and a change to separate the maple
state status tracking from the maple state node.

The maple state status change allows for walks to continue from previous
places when the status needs to be recorded to make logical sense for the
next call to the maple state.  For instance, it allows for prev/next to
function in a way that better resembles the linked list.  It also allows
switch statements to be used to detect missed states during compile, and
the addition of fast-path "active" state is cleaner as an enum.

While making the status change, perf showed some very small (one line)
functions that were not inlined even with the inline key word.  Making
these small functions __always_inline is less expensive according to perf.
As part of that change, some inlines have been dropped from larger
functions.

Perf also showed that the commonly used mas_for_each() iterator was
spending a lot of time finding the end of the node.  This series
introduces caching of the end of the node in the maple state (and updating
it during writes).  This caching along with the inline changes yielded at
23.25% improvement on the BENCH_MAS_FOR_EACH maple tree test framework
benchmark.

I've also included a change to mtree_range_walk and mtree_lookup_walk to
take advantage of Peng's change [1] to the initial pivot setup.

mmtests did not produce any significant gains.

When destroying maple tree, preserve its attributes and then turn it into
an empty tree.  This allows it to be reused without needing to be
reinitialized.
