However, the root bus has two contiguous apertures that can contain the
child resource requested.

Coalesce contiguous apertures so we can allocate from the entire contiguous
region.

ea4aae0597 PCI: Print a debug message on PCI device release
Commit 6279504141 ("PCI: enhance physical slot debug information") added
a debug print on releasing the PCI slot and another message on destroying
it. There is however no debug print on releasing the PCI device structure
itself and even with closely looking at the kernel log during hotplug
testing, I overlooked several missing pci_dev_put() calls for way too long.

Add a debug print in pci_release_dev() making it much easier to spot when
the PCI device structure is not released when it is supposed to be.

c037b6c818 PCI: Add sysfs "removable" attribute
A PCI device is "external_facing" if it's a Root Port with the ACPI
"ExternalFacingPort" property or if it has the DT "external-facing"
property. We consider everything downstream from such a device to
be removable by user.

We're mainly concerned with consumer platforms with user accessible
Thunderbolt ports that are vulnerable to DMA attacks, and we expect those
ports to be identified by firmware as "ExternalFacingPort". Devices in
traditional hotplug slots can technically be removed, but the expectation
is that unless the port is marked with "ExternalFacingPort", such devices
are less accessible to user / may not be removed by end user, and thus not
exposed as "removable" to userspace.

This can be used to implement userspace policies tailored for
user removable devices. Eg usage:
https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromiumos/platform2/+/2591812
https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromiumos/platform2/+/2795038
(code uses such an attribute to remove external PCI devices or disable
features on them as needed by the policy desired)

85aabbd7b3 PCI/MSI: Fix MSIs for generic hosts that use device-tree's "msi-map"
Since commit 9ec37efb87 ("PCI/MSI: Make pci_host_common_probe() declare
its reliance on MSI domains"), platforms that rely on the "msi-map"
device-tree property don't get MSIs anymore.

On the Arm Fast Model for example [1], the host bridge doesn't have a
"msi-parent" property since it doesn't itself generate MSIs, and so doesn't
get a MSI domain. It has an "msi-map" property instead to describe MSI
controllers of child devices. As a result, due to the new msi_domain check
in pci_register_host_bridge(), the whole bus gets PCI_BUS_FLAGS_NO_MSI.

Check whether the root complex has an "msi-map" property before giving
up on MSIs.

94e89b1453 PCI/MSI: Let PCI host bridges declare their reliance on MSI domains
There is a whole class of host bridges that cannot know whether
MSIs will be provided or not, as they rely on other blocks
to provide the MSI functionnality, using MSI domains. This is
the case for example on systems that use the ARM GIC architecture.

Introduce a new attribute ('msi_domain') indicating that implicit
dependency, and use this property to set the NO_MSI flag when
no MSI domain is found at probe time.

cbc40d5c33 PCI/MSI: Move MSI/MSI-X init to msi.c
Move pci_msi_setup_pci_dev(), which disables MSI and MSI-X interrupts, from
probe.c to msi.c so it's with all the other MSI code and more consistent
with other capability initialization. This means we must compile msi.c
always, even without CONFIG_PCI_MSI, so wrap the rest of msi.c in an #ifdef
and adjust the Makefile accordingly. No functional change intended.

PCIe r6.0, sec 7.5.3.18, defines a new 64.0 GT/s bit in the Supported Link

negotiated automatically by the hardware; it only adds decoding when

ecdf57b4f6 PCI/ASPM: Remove struct aspm_register_info.l1ss_cap_ptr
Save the L1 Substates Capability pointer in struct pci_dev. Then we don't
have to keep track of it in the struct aspm_register_info and struct
pcie_link_state, which makes the code easier to read. No functional change
intended.

Similar to pcibios_add_bus(), call pci_ops.add_bus() when the root bus
is added. This allows host bridge drivers to do any setup requiring a
bus pointer.

There are currently no .add_bus() callbacks, so this is safe to do.

669cbc7081 PCI: Move DT resource setup into devm_pci_alloc_host_bridge()
Now that pci_parse_request_of_pci_ranges() callers just setup
pci_host_bridge.windows and dma_ranges directly and don't need the bus
range returned, we can just initialize them when allocating the
pci_host_bridge struct.

With this, pci_parse_request_of_pci_ranges() becomes a static function.

4f5c883d78 PCI: Move setting pci_host_bridge.busnr out of host drivers
Most host drivers only parse the DT bus range to set the root bus number
in pci_host_bridge.busnr. The ones that don't set busnr are buggy in
that they ignore what's in DT. Let's set busnr in pci_scan_root_bus_bridge()

99b50be9d8 PCI: Treat "external-facing" devices themselves as internal
"External-facing" devices are internal devices that expose PCIe hierarchies
such as Thunderbolt outside the platform [1]. Previously these internal
devices were marked as "untrusted" the same as devices downstream from

Use the ACPI or DT information to identify external-facing devices, but
only mark the devices *downstream* from them as "untrusted" [2]. The
external-facing device itself is no longer marked as untrusted.

aa0ce96d72 PCI: Program MPS for RCiEP devices
Root Complex Integrated Endpoints (RCiEPs) do not have an upstream bridge,
so pci_configure_mps() previously ignored them, which may result in reduced
performance.

Instead, program the Max_Payload_Size of RCiEPs to the maximum supported
value (unless it is limited for the PCIE_BUS_PEER2PEER case). This also
affects the subsequent programming of Max_Read_Request_Size because Linux
programs MRRS based on the MPS value.

9885440b16 PCI: Fix pci_host_bridge struct device release/free handling
The PCI code has several paths where the struct pci_host_bridge is freed
directly. This is wrong because it contains a struct device which is
refcounted and should be freed using put_device(). This can result in
use-after-free errors. I think this problem has existed since 2012 with
commit 7b54366358 ("PCI: add generic device into pci_host_bridge
struct"). It generally hasn't mattered as most host bridge drivers are
still built-in and can't unbind.

The problem is a struct device should never be freed directly once
device_initialize() is called and a ref is held, but that doesn't happen
until pci_register_host_bridge(). There's then a window between allocating
the host bridge and pci_register_host_bridge() where kfree should be used.
This is fragile and requires callers to do the right thing. To fix this, we
need to split device_register() into device_initialize() and device_add()
calls, so that the host bridge struct is always freed by using a
put_device().

devm_pci_alloc_host_bridge() is using devm_kzalloc() to allocate struct
pci_host_bridge which will be freed directly. Instead, we can use a custom
devres action to call put_device().

ac1c8e35a3 PCI/DPC: Add Error Disconnect Recover (EDR) support
Error Disconnect Recover (EDR) is a feature that allows ACPI firmware to
notify OSPM that a device has been disconnected due to an error condition
(ACPI v6.3, sec 5.6.6). OSPM advertises its support for EDR on PCI devices
via _OSC (see [1], sec 4.5.1, table 4-4). The OSPM EDR notify handler
should invalidate software state associated with disconnected devices and
may attempt to recover them. OSPM communicates the status of recovery to
the firmware via _OST (sec 6.3.5.2).

For PCIe, firmware may use Downstream Port Containment (DPC) to support
EDR. Per [1], sec 4.5.1, table 4-6, even if firmware has retained control
of DPC, OSPM may read/write DPC control and status registers during the EDR
notification processing window, i.e., from the time it receives an EDR
notification until it clears the DPC Trigger Status.

Note that per [1], sec 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.4,

  1. If the OS supports EDR, it should advertise that to firmware by
     setting OSC_PCI_EDR_SUPPORT in _OSC Support.

  2. If the OS sets OSC_PCI_EXPRESS_DPC_CONTROL in _OSC Control to request
control of the DPC capability, it must also set OSC_PCI_EDR_SUPPORT in
     _OSC Support.

Add an EDR notify handler to attempt recovery.
