A freezable kernel thread can enter frozen state during freezing by
either calling try_to_freeze() or using wait_event_freezable() and its
variants. So for the following snippet of code in a kernel thread loop:
wait_event_interruptible();
try_to_freeze();
We can change it to a simple wait_event_freezable() and then eliminate
a function call.

The kernel thread function agent_thread_fn() invokes the try_to_freeze()
in its loop. But all the kernel threads are non-freezable by default.
So if we want to make a kernel thread to be freezable, we have to invoke
set_freezable() explicitly.

The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

This final variant in the e300 family of Modular Development System
(MDS) in this series was actually aimed at feature reduction - things
like floating point and ethernet were removed in order to make for a
lower power and lower cost system.
Like all the MDS systems, it was meant as a vehicle to get the CPU out
early to hardware OEMs so software and board development could take place
in parallel.
These were made in limited numbers and availability preference was given
to partners who were planning to make their own boards.
Given that the whole reason for existence was to assist in enabling new
board designs [not happening for 10+ years], and that they weren't
generally available, and that the hardware wasn't really hobbyist friendly
even for retro computing, it makes sense to retire the support for this
particular platform.

This next evolutionary step in the e300 family of Modular Development
System (MDS) still has, at its core component, a full length card with a
PCI edge. No case. Serial and network connectors were on card, so it
could optionally be fitted with plastic stand-offs and run stand-alone
off a power brick.
This is very similar to the MPC834x_MDS and MPC836x_MDS removed in the
prior commits, but with this board variant as yet another evolutionary
step. SATA and PCI-e were now available. But overall the form factor
and design goals were unchanged.

ppc_md.calibrate_decr() is a mandatory item. Its nullity is never
checked so it must be non null on all platforms.
Most platforms define generic_calibrate_decr() as their
ppc_md.calibrate_decr(). Have time_init() call
generic_calibrate_decr() when ppc_md.calibrate_decr() is NULL,
and remove default assignment from all machines.

Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these
members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the
transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the
spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and
spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls.
While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the
"idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e.,
spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively.

The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

Returning an error in .remove() doesn't prevent a driver from being
unloaded. On unbind this only results in an error message, but the
device is remove anyhow.
I guess the author's idea of just returning -EPERM in .remove() was to
prevent unbinding a device. To achieve that set the suppress_bind_attrs
driver property and drop the useless .remove callback.
This is a preparation for making platform remove callbacks return void.

Having to call qe_ic_init() from platform-specific code makes it
awkward to allow building the QE drivers for ARM. It's also a needless
duplication of code, and slightly error-prone: Instead of the caller
needing to know the details of whether the QUICC Engine High and QUICC
Engine Low are actually the same interrupt (see e.g. the machine_is()
in mpc85xx_mds_qeic_init), just let the init function choose the
appropriate handlers after it has parsed the DT and figured it out. If
the two interrupts are distinct, use separate handlers, otherwise use
the handler which first checks the CHIVEC register (for the high
priority interrupts), then the CIVEC.
All existing callers pass 0 for flags, so continue to do that from the
new single caller. Later cleanups will remove that argument
from qe_ic_init and simplify the body, as well as make qe_ic_init into
a proper init function for an IRQCHIP_DECLARE, eliminating the need to
manually look up the fsl,qe-ic node.

The *_ipic and *_mpic handlers are almost identical - the only
difference is that the latter end with an unconditional
chip->irq_eoi() call. Since IPIC does not have ->irq_eoi, we can
reduce some code duplication by calling irq_eoi conditionally.
This is similar to what is already done in mpc8xxx_gpio_irq_cascade().
This leaves the functions slightly misnamed, but that will be fixed in
a subsequent patch.

There is a config item CONFIG_SIMPLE_GPIO which
provides simple memory mapped GPIOs specific to powerpc.
However, the only platform which selects this option is
mpc5200, and this platform doesn't use it.
There are three boards calling simple_gpiochip_init(), but
as they don't select CONFIG_SIMPLE_GPIO, this is just a nop.
Simple_gpio is just redundant with the generic MMIO GPIO
driver which can be found in driver/gpio/ and selected via
CONFIG_GPIO_GENERIC_PLATFORM, so drop simple_gpio driver.

On mpc83xx with a QE, IMMR is 2Mbytes and aligned on 2Mbytes boundarie.
On mpc83xx without a QE, IMMR is 1Mbyte and 1Mbyte aligned.
Each driver will map a part of it to access the registers it needs.
Some drivers will map the same part of IMMR as other drivers.
In order to reduce TLB misses, map the full IMMR with a BAT. If it is
2Mbytes aligned, map 2Mbytes. If there is no QE, the upper part will
remain unused, but it doesn't harm as it is mapped as guarded memory.
When the IMMR is not aligned on a 2Mbytes boundarie, only map 1Mbyte.
