Pull memory folios from Matthew Wilcox:
"Add memory folios, a new type to represent either order-0 pages or the
head page of a compound page. This should be enough infrastructure to
support filesystems converting from pages to folios.
The point of all this churn is to allow filesystems and the page cache
to manage memory in larger chunks than PAGE_SIZE. The original plan
was to use compound pages like THP does, but I ran into problems with
some functions expecting only a head page while others expect the
precise page containing a particular byte.
The folio type allows a function to declare that it's expecting only a
head page. Almost incidentally, this allows us to remove various calls
to VM_BUG_ON(PageTail(page)) and compound_head().
This converts just parts of the core MM and the page cache. For 5.17,
we intend to convert various filesystems (XFS and AFS are ready; other
filesystems may make it) and also convert more of the MM and page
cache to folios. For 5.18, multi-page folios should be ready.
The multi-page folios offer some improvement to some workloads. The
80% win is real, but appears to be an artificial benchmark (postgres
startup, which isn't a serious workload). Real workloads (eg building
the kernel, running postgres in a steady state, etc) seem to benefit
between 0-10%. I haven't heard of any performance losses as a result
of this series. Nobody has done any serious performance tuning; I
imagine that tweaking the readahead algorithm could provide some more
interesting wins. There are also other places where we could choose to
create large folios and currently do not, such as writes that are
larger than PAGE_SIZE.
I'd like to thank all my reviewers who've offered review/ack tags:

Weiner, Kirill A. Shutemov, Michal Hocko, Mike Rapoport, Vlastimil

Documentation/kbuild/makefiles.rst suggests to use "archclean" for
cleaning arch/$(SRCARCH)/boot/, but it is not a hard requirement.
Since commit d92cc4d516 ("kbuild: require all architectures to have
arch/$(SRCARCH)/Kbuild"), we can use the "subdir- += boot" trick for
all architectures. This can take advantage of the parallel option (-j)
for "make clean".

The __kretprobe_trampoline_handler() callback, called from low level
arch kprobes methods, has the 'trampoline_address' parameter, which is
entirely superfluous as it basically just replicates:
dereference_kernel_function_descriptor(kretprobe_trampoline)
In fact we had bugs in arch code where it wasn't replicated correctly.
So remove this superfluous parameter and use kretprobe_trampoline_addr()
instead.

vmalloc() sets up the kernel page table (starting from @swapper_pg_dir).
But when vmalloc area is accessed in context of a user task, say opening
terminal in n_tty_open(), the user page tables need to be synced from
kernel page tables so that TLB entry is created in "user context".
The old code was doing this incorrectly, as it was updating the user pgd
entry (first level itself) to point to kernel pud table (2nd level),
effectively yanking away the entire user space translation with kernel one.
The correct way to do this is to ONLY update a user space pgd/pud/pmd entry
if it is not popluated already. This ensures that only the missing leaf
pmd entry gets updated to point to relevant kernel pte table.
From code change pov, we are chaging the pattern:
p4d = p4d_offset(pgd, address);
p4d_k = p4d_offset(pgd_k, address);
if (!p4d_present(*p4d_k))
goto bad_area;
set_p4d(p4d, *p4d_k);
with
p4d = p4d_offset(pgd, address);
p4d_k = p4d_offset(pgd_k, address);
if (p4d_none(*p4d_k))
goto bad_area;
if (!p4d_present(*p4d))
set_p4d(p4d, *p4d_k);

ARCv2 MMU is software walked and Linux implements 2 levels of paging: pgd/pte.
Forthcoming hw will have multiple levels, so this change preps mm code
for same. It is also fun to try multi levels even on soft-walked code to
ensure generic mm code is robust to handle.
overview
________
2 levels {pgd, pte} : pmd is folded but pmd_* macros are valid and operate on pgd
3 levels {pgd, pmd, pte}:
- pud is folded and pud_* macros point to pgd
- pmd_* macros operate on actual pmd
code changes
____________
1. #include <asm-generic/pgtable-nopud.h>
2. Define CONFIG_PGTABLE_LEVELS 3
3a. Define PMD_SHIFT, PMD_SIZE, PMD_MASK, pmd_t
3b. Define pmd_val() which actually deals with pmd
(pmd_offset(), pmd_index() are provided by generic code)
3c. pmd_alloc_one()/pmd_free() also provided by generic code
(pmd_populate/pmd_free already exist)
4. Define pud_none(), pud_bad() macros based on generic pud_val() which
internally pertains to pgd now.
4b. define pud_populate() to just setup pgd

So far ARC pgtable_t has not been struct page based to avoid extra
page_address() calls involved. However the differences are down to
noise and get in the way of using generic code, hence this patch.
This also allows us to reuse generic THP depost/withdraw code.
There's some additional consideration for PGDIR_SHIFT in 4K page config.
Now due to page tables being PAGE_SIZE deep only, the address split
can't be really arbitrary.

PMD_SHIFT is mapped to PUD_SHIFT or PGD_SHIFT by asm-generic/pgtable-*
but only for !__ASSEMBLY__
tlbex.S asm code has PTRS_PER_PTE which uses PMD_SHIFT hence barfs
for CONFIG_PGTABLE_LEVEL={2,3} and works for 4.
So add a workaround local to tlbex.S - the proper fix is to change
asm-generic/pgtable-* headers to expose the defines for __ASSEMBLY__ too

In the past I've refrained from doing this (at least 2 times) due to the
slight code bloat due to ABI implications of pte_t etc becoming struct
Per ARC ABI, functions return struct via memory and not through register
r0, even if the struct would fit in register(s)
- caller allocates space on stack and passes the address as first arg
(r0), shifting rest of args by one
- callee creates return struct in memory (referenced via r0)
This time around the code actually shrunk slightly (due to subtle
inlining heuristic effects), but still slightly inefficient due to
return values passed through memory. That however seems like a small
cost compared to maintenance burden given the impending new mmu support
for page walk etc
Signed-off-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@kernel.org>
Don't pollute mmu.h and cache.h with ARC internal bootlog/setup
related functions. Move them aside to setup.h

MMU SCRATCH_DATA0 register is intended to cache task pgd. However in
ARC700 SMP port, it has to be repurposed for re-entrant interrupt
handling, while UP port doesn't. We currently handle these use-cases
using a fabricated #define which has usual issues of dependency nesting
and obvious ugliness.
So clean this up: for ARC700 don't use to cache pgd (even in UP) and do
the opposite for ARCv2.
And while here, switch to canonical pgd_offset().

- !LLSC now only needs a single spinlock for atomics and bitops
- Some codegen changes (slight bloat) with generic bitops
1. code increase due to LD-check-atomic paradigm vs. unconditonal
atomic (but dirty'ing the cache line even if set already).
So despite increase, generic is right thing to do.
2. code decrease (but use of costlier instructions such as DIV vs.
shifts based math) due to signed arithmetic.
This needs to be revisited seperately.

The current ARC fetch/return atomics provide fully ordered semantics
only with 2 full barriers around the operation.
Instead implement them as relaxed variants without any barriers and
rely on generic code to generate the fully-ordered, acquire and release
varaints by adding the appropriate full barriers.
This helps elide some extra barriers in case of acquire/release/relaxed
calls.

!LLSC atomics use spinlock (SMP) or irq-disable (UP) to implement

any of that so and still being functional.
Remove this anomaly (primarily as cleanup for future code improvements)
given that this config is not worth hassle of special case code.

In most ARCHes, clear_user_page() is a macro. OTOH, in a few

PowerPC exported it in 2004. It looks like nds32 and nios2

FPU_STATUS register contains FP exception flags bits which are updated
by core as side-effect of FP instructions but can also be manually
wiggled such as by glibc C99 functions fe{raise,clear,test}except() etc.
To effect the update, the programming model requires OR'ing FWE
bit (31). This bit is write-only and RAZ, meaning it is effectively
auto-cleared after write and thus needs to be set everytime: which
is how glibc implements this.
However there's another usecase of FPU_STATUS update, at the time of
Linux task switch when incoming task value needs to be programmed into
the register. This was added as part of f45ba2bd6d ("ARCv2:
fpu: preserve userspace fpu state") which missed OR'ing FWE bit,
meaning the new value is effectively not being written at all.
This patch remedies that.
Interestingly, this snafu was not caught in interm glibc testing as the
race window which relies on a specific exception bit to be set/clear is
really small specially when it nvolves context switch.
Fortunately this was caught by glibc's math/test-fenv-tls test which
repeatedly set/clear exception flags in a big loop, concurrently in main
program and also in a thread.

Most architectures do not need a custom implementation, and in most
cases the generic implementation is preferred, so change the polariy
on these Kconfig symbols to require architectures to select them when
they provide their own version.
The new name is CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_{STRNCPY_FROM,STRNLEN}_USER.
The remaining architectures at the moment are: ia64, mips, parisc,
um and xtensa. We should probably convert these as well, but
I was not sure how far to take this series. Thomas Bogendoerfer
had some concerns about converting mips but may still do some
more detailed measurements to see which version is better.

- Tweak newidle_balance for fair-sched, to improve
'memcache'-like workloads.
- "Age" (decay) average idle time, to better track & improve workloads
such as 'tbench'.
- Fix & improve energy-aware (EAS) balancing logic & metrics.

Pull scheduler udpates from Ingo Molnar:
- Changes to core scheduling facilities:
- Add "Core Scheduling" via CONFIG_SCHED_CORE=y, which enables
coordinated scheduling across SMT siblings. This is a much
requested feature for cloud computing platforms, to allow the
flexible utilization of SMT siblings, without exposing untrusted
domains to information leaks & side channels, plus to ensure more
deterministic computing performance on SMT systems used by
heterogenous workloads.
There are new prctls to set core scheduling groups, which allows
more flexible management of workloads that can share siblings.
- Fix task->state access anti-patterns that may result in missed
wakeups and rename it to ->__state in the process to catch new
abuses.
- Load-balancing changes:
- Tweak newidle_balance for fair-sched, to improve 'memcache'-like
workloads.
- "Age" (decay) average idle time, to better track & improve
workloads such as 'tbench'.
- Fix & improve energy-aware (EAS) balancing logic & metrics.
- Fix & improve the uclamp metrics.
- Fix task migration (taskset) corner case on !CONFIG_CPUSET.
- Fix RT and deadline utilization tracking across policy changes
- Introduce a "burstable" CFS controller via cgroups, which allows
bursty CPU-bound workloads to borrow a bit against their future
quota to improve overall latencies & batching. Can be tweaked via
/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/<X>/cpu.cfs_burst_us.

The issue is triggered by an allocation in "init reclaimed" region.
ARC _stext emcompasses the init region (for historical reasons we wanted
the init.text to be under .text as well). This however trips up
__check_object_size()->check_kernel_text_object() which treats this as
object bleeding into kernel text.
Fix that by rezoning _stext to start from regular kernel .text and leave
out .init altogether.

ARCv2 has some configuration dependent registers (r30, r58, r59) which
could be targetted by the compiler. To keep the ABI stable, these were
unconditionally part of the glibc ABI
(sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/arc/sys/ucontext.h:mcontext_t) however we
missed populating them (by saving/restoring them across signal
handling).
This patch fixes the issue by
- adding arcv2 ABI regs to kernel struct sigcontext
- populating them during signal handling
Change to struct sigcontext might seem like a glibc ABI change (although
it primarily uses ucontext_t:mcontext_t) but the fact is
- it has only been extended (existing fields are not touched)
- the old sigcontext was ABI incomplete to begin with anyways

Kprobes has a counter 'nmissed', that is used to count the number of
times a probe handler was not called. This generally happens when we hit
a kprobe while handling another kprobe.
However, if one of the probe handlers causes a fault, we are currently
incrementing 'nmissed'. The comment in fault handler indicates that this
can be used to account faults taken by the probe handlers. But, this has
never been the intention as is evident from the comment above 'nmissed'
in 'struct kprobe':
/*count the number of times this probe was temporarily disarmed */

The reason for kprobe::fault_handler(), as given by their comment:
* We come here because instructions in the pre/post
* handler caused the page_fault, this could happen
* if handler tries to access user space by
* copy_from_user(), get_user() etc. Let the
* user-specified handler try to fix it first.
Is just plain bad. Those other handlers are ran from non-preemptible
context and had better use _nofault() functions. Also, there is no
upstream usage of this.

We'd like all architectures to convert to ARCH_ATOMIC, as once all
architectures are converted it will be possible to make significant
cleanups to the atomics headers, and this will make it much easier to
generically enable atomic functionality (e.g. debug logic in the
instrumented wrappers).
As a step towards that, this patch migrates alpha to ARCH_ATOMIC. The
arch code provides arch_{atomic,atomic64,xchg,cmpxchg}*(), and common
code wraps these with optional instrumentation to provide the regular
functions.

As pointed out by commit
de9b8f5dcb ("sched: Fix crash trying to dequeue/enqueue the idle thread")
init_idle() can and will be invoked more than once on the same idle
task. At boot time, it is invoked for the boot CPU thread by
sched_init(). Then smp_init() creates the threads for all the secondary
CPUs and invokes init_idle() on them.
As the hotplug machinery brings the secondaries to life, it will issue
calls to idle_thread_get(), which itself invokes init_idle() yet again.
In this case it's invoked twice more per secondary: at _cpu_up(), and at
bringup_cpu().
Given smp_init() already initializes the idle tasks for all *possible*
CPUs, no further initialization should be required. Now, removing
init_idle() from idle_thread_get() exposes some interesting expectations
with regards to the idle task's preempt_count: the secondary startup always
issues a preempt_disable(), requiring some reset of the preempt count to 0
between hot-unplug and hotplug, which is currently served by
idle_thread_get() -> idle_init().
Given the idle task is supposed to have preemption disabled once and never
see it re-enabled, it seems that what we actually want is to initialize its
preempt_count to PREEMPT_DISABLED and leave it there. Do that, and remove
init_idle() from idle_thread_get().
Secondary startups were patched via coccinelle:

We have NR_syscall syscalls from [0 .. NR_syscall-1].
However the check for invalid syscall number is "> NR_syscall" as
opposed to >=. This off-by-one error erronesously allows "NR_syscall"
to be treated as valid syscall causeing out-of-bounds access into
syscall-call table ensuing a crash (holes within syscall table have a
invalid-entry handler but this is beyond the array implementing the
table).
This problem showed up on v5.6 kernel when testing glibc 2.33 (v5.10
kernel capable, includng faccessat2 syscall 439). The v5.6 kernel has
NR_syscalls=439 (0 to 438). Due to the bug, 439 passed by glibc was
not handled as -ENOSYS but processed leading to a crash.

Patch series "mm: some config cleanups", v2.
This series contains config cleanup patches which reduces code
duplication across platforms and also improves maintainability. There
is no functional change intended with this series.
This patch (of 6):
ARCH_HAS_CACHE_LINE_SIZE config has duplicate definitions on platforms
that subscribe it. Instead, just make it a generic option which can be
selected on applicable platforms. This change reduces code duplication
and makes it cleaner.

PF_IO_WORKER are kernel threads too, but they aren't PF_KTHREAD in the
sense that we don't assign ->set_child_tid with our own structure. Just
ensure that every arch sets up the PF_IO_WORKER threads like kthreads
in the arch implementation of copy_thread().

Linux 5.11.rcX was failing to boot on ARC HSDK board. Turns out we have
a couple of issues, this being the first one, and I'm to blame as I
didn't pay attention during review.
TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL support requires checking multiple TIF_* bits in
kernel return code path. Old code only needed to check a single bit so
BBIT0 <TIF_SIGPENDING> worked. New code needs to check multiple bits so
AND <bit-mask> instruction. So needs to use bit mask variant _TIF_SIGPENDING

Merge tag 'tif-task_work.arch-2020-12-14' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-block
Pull TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL updates from Jens Axboe:
"This sits on top of of the core entry/exit and x86 entry branch from
the tip tree, which contains the generic and x86 parts of this work.
Here we convert the rest of the archs to support TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL.
With that done, we can get rid of JOBCTL_TASK_WORK from task_work and
signal.c, and also remove a deadlock work-around in io_uring around
knowing that signal based task_work waking is invoked with the sighand
wait queue head lock.
The motivation for this work is to decouple signal notify based
task_work, of which io_uring is a heavy user of, from sighand. The
sighand lock becomes a huge contention point, particularly for
threaded workloads where it's shared between threads. Even outside of
threaded applications it's slower than it needs to be.
Roman Gershman <romger@amazon.com> reported that his networked
workload dropped from 1.6M QPS at 80% CPU to 1.0M QPS at 100% CPU
after io_uring was changed to use TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL. The time was all
spent hammering on the sighand lock, showing 57% of the CPU time there
[1].
There are further cleanups possible on top of this. One example is
TIF_PATCH_PENDING, where a patch already exists to use
TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL instead. Hopefully this will also lead to more
consolidation, but the work stands on its own as well"

This cleans up two ancient timer features that were never completed in
the past, CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS and CONFIG_ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET.
There was only one user left for the ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET variant
of clocksource implementations, the ARM EBSA110 platform. Rather than
changing to use modern timekeeping, we remove the platform entirely as
Russell no longer uses his machine and nobody else seems to have one
any more.
The conditional code for using arch_gettimeoffset() is removed as
a result.
For CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS, there are still a couple of platforms
not using clockevent drivers: parisc, ia64, most of m68k, and one
Arm platform. These all do timer ticks slighly differently, and this
gets cleaned up to the point they at least all call the same helper
function. Instead of most platforms using 'select GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS'
in Kconfig, the polarity is now reversed, with the few remaining ones
selecting LEGACY_TIMER_TICK instead.

Currently ARC uses DISCONTIGMEM to cope with sparse physical memory address
space on systems with 2 memory banks. While DISCONTIGMEM avoids wasting
memory on unpopulated memory map, it adds both memory and CPU overhead
relatively to FLATMEM. Moreover, DISCONTINGMEM is generally considered
deprecated.
The obvious replacement for DISCONTIGMEM would be SPARSEMEM, but it is also
less efficient than FLATMEM in pfn_to_page() and page_to_pfn() conversions.
Besides it requires tuning of SECTION_SIZE which is not trivial for
possible ARC memory configuration.
Since the memory map for both banks is always allocated from the "lowmem"
bank, it is possible to use FLATMEM for two-bank configuration and simply
free the unused hole in the memory map. All is required for that is to
provide ARC-specific pfn_valid() that will take into account actual
physical memory configuration and define HAVE_ARCH_PFN_VALID.
The resulting kernel image configured with defconfig + HIGHMEM=y is
smaller:

If you run 'make uImage uImage.gz' with the parallel option, uImage.gz
will be created by two threads simultaneously.
This is because arch/arc/Makefile does not specify the dependency
between uImage and uImage.gz. Hence, GNU Make assumes they can be
built in parallel. One thread descends into arch/arc/boot/ to create
uImage, and another to create uImage.gz.
Please notice the same log is displayed twice in the following steps:

This is a race between the two threads trying to write to the same file
arch/arc/boot/uImage.gz. This is a potential problem that can generate
a broken file.
I fixed a similar problem for ARM by commit 3939f33450 ("ARM: 8418/1:
add boot image dependencies to not generate invalid images").
I highly recommend to avoid such build rules that cause a race condition.
Move the uImage rule to arch/arc/Makefile.
Another strangeness is that arch/arc/boot/Makefile compares the
timestamps between $(obj)/uImage and $(obj)/uImage.*:
$(obj)/uImage: $(obj)/uImage.$(suffix-y)
@ln -sf $(notdir $<) $@
@echo ' Image $@ is ready'
This does not work as expected since $(obj)/uImage is a symlink.
The symlink should be created in a phony target rule.
I used $(kecho) instead of echo to suppress the message
'Image arch/arc/boot/uImage is ready' when the -s option is given.

The top-level boot_targets (uImage and uImage.*) should be phony
targets. They just let Kbuild descend into arch/arc/boot/ and create
files there.
If a file exists in the top directory with the same name, the boot
image will not be created.
You can confirm it by the following steps:
$ export CROSS_COMPILE=<your-arc-compiler-prefix>
$ make -s ARCH=arc defconfig all # vmlinux will be built
$ touch uImage.gz
$ make ARCH=arc uImage.gz
CALL scripts/atomic/check-atomics.sh
CALL scripts/checksyscalls.sh

The reason is obvious; arch/arc/Makefile sets $(boot)/bootpImage as
the default image, but there is no rule to build it.
Remove the meaningless KBUILD_IMAGE assignment so it will fallback
to the default vmlinux. With this change, you can build the deb package.
I removed the 'bootpImage' target as well. At best, it provides
'make bootpImage' as an alias of 'make vmlinux', but I do not see
much sense in doing so.

To start stack unwinding (SP, PC and BLINK) are needed. When the
explicit execution context (pt_regs etc) is not available, unwinder
assumes the task is sleeping (in __switch_to()) and fetches SP and BLINK
from kernel mode stack.
But this assumption is not true, specially in a SMP system, when top
runs on 1 core, there may be active running processes on all cores.
So when unwinding non courrent tasks, ensure they are NOT running.
And while at it, handle the self unwinding case explicitly.

As it turns out, zsram needs to know the maximum memory size, which
is defined in MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS when CONFIG_SPARSEMEM is set, or in
MAX_POSSIBLE_PHYSMEM_BITS on the x86 architecture.
The same problem will be hit on all 32-bit architectures that have a
physical address space larger than 4GB and happen to not enable sparsemem
and include asm/sparsemem.h from asm/pgtable.h.
After the initial discussion, I suggested just always defining
MAX_POSSIBLE_PHYSMEM_BITS whenever CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_64BIT is
set, or provoking a build error otherwise. This addresses all
configurations that can currently have this runtime bug, but
leaves all other configurations unchanged.
I looked up the possible number of bits in source code and
datasheets, here is what I found:
- on ARC, CONFIG_ARC_HAS_PAE40 controls whether 32 or 40 bits are used
- on ARM, CONFIG_LPAE enables 40 bit addressing, without it we never
support more than 32 bits, even though supersections in theory allow
up to 40 bits as well.
- on MIPS, some MIPS32r1 or later chips support 36 bits, and MIPS32r5
XPA supports up to 60 bits in theory, but 40 bits are more than
anyone will ever ship
- On PowerPC, there are three different implementations of 36 bit
addressing, but 32-bit is used without CONFIG_PTE_64BIT
- On RISC-V, the normal page table format can support 34 bit
addressing. There is no highmem support on RISC-V, so anything
above 2GB is unused, but it might be useful to eventually support
CONFIG_ZRAM for high pages.

Adopt the map ordering to match the other architectures and the generic
code. Also make the maximum entries limited and not dependend on the number
of CPUs. With the original implementation did the following calculation:
nr_slots = mapsize >> PAGE_SHIFT;
The results in either 512 or 1024 total slots depending on
configuration. The total slots have to be divided by the number of CPUs to
get the number of slots per CPU (former KM_TYPE_NR). ARC supports up to 4k
CPUs, so this just falls apart in random ways depending on the number of
CPUs and the actual kmap (atomic) nesting. The comment in highmem.c:
* - fixmap anyhow needs a limited number of mappings. So 2M kvaddr == 256 PTE
* slots across NR_CPUS would be more than sufficient (generic code defines
* KM_TYPE_NR as 20).
is just wrong. KM_TYPE_NR (now KM_MAX_IDX) is the number of slots per CPU
because kmap_local/atomic() needs to support nested mappings (thread,
softirq, interrupt). While KM_MAX_IDX might be overestimated, the above
reasoning is just wrong and clearly the highmem code was never tested with
any system with more than a few CPUs.
Use the default number of slots and fail the build when it does not
fit. Randomly failing at runtime is not a really good option.

ARC HSDK platform stopped booting on released v5.10-rc1, getting stuck
in startup of non master SMP cores.
This was bisected to upstream commit 7fef431be9
"(mm/page_alloc: place pages to tail in __free_pages_core())"
That commit itself is harmless, it just exposed a subtle assumption in
our platform code (hence CC'ing linux-mm just as FYI in case some other
arches / platforms trip on it).
The upstream commit is semantically disruptive as it reverses the order
of page allocations (actually it can be good test for hardware
verification to exercise different memory patterns altogether).
For ARC HSDK platform that meant a remapped memory region (pertaining to
unused Closely Coupled Memory) started getting used early for dynamice
allocations, while not effectively remapped on all the cores, triggering
memory error exception on those cores.
The fix is to move the CCM remapping from early platform code to to early core
boot code. And while it is undesirable to riddle common boot code with
platform quirks, there is no other way to do this since the faltering code
involves setting up stack itself so even function calls are not allowed at
that point.

Almost all machines use GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS, so it feels wrong to
require each one to select that symbol manually.
Instead, enable it whenever CONFIG_LEGACY_TIMER_TICK is disabled as
a simplification. It should be possible to select both
GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS and LEGACY_TIMER_TICK from an architecture now
and decide at runtime between the two.
For the clockevents arch-support.txt file, this means that additional
architectures are marked as TODO when they have at least one machine
that still uses LEGACY_TIMER_TICK, rather than being marked 'ok' when
at least one machine has been converted. This means that both m68k and
arm (for riscpc) revert to TODO.
At this point, we could just always enable CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS
rather than leaving it off when not needed. I built an m68k
defconfig kernel (using gcc-10.1.0) and found that this would add
around 5.5KB in kernel image size:
text data bss dec hex filename
3861936 1092236 196656 5150828 4e986c obj-m68k/vmlinux-no-clockevent
3866201 1093832 196184 5156217 4ead79 obj-m68k/vmlinux-clockevent

around 11KB on top of an 6MB vmlinux.

ARC: perf: redo the pct irq missing in device-tree handling
commit feb92d7d38 "(ARC: perf: don't bail setup if pct irq

The assignment and comparison in an if statement were not bracketed
correctly leaving the order of evaluation undefined.

Using 'phy-mode = "rgmii"' is not correct because accodring RGMII

which is not generated in case of "rgmii".
Using "rgmii-id" adds necessary delay and solves the issue.

"lowmem" bank. After the addition of node information to memblock, the core
mm attempts to allocate the memory map for the "highmem" bank from its
node. The access to this memory using __va() fails because it can be only
accessed using kmap.
Anther problem that was uncovered is that {min,max}_high_pfn are calculated
from u64 high_mem_start variable which prevents truncation to 32-bit
physical address and the PFN values are above the node and zone boundaries.
Use phys_addr_t type for high_mem_start and high_mem_size to ensure
correspondence between PFNs and highmem zone boundaries and reserve the
entire highmem bank until mem_init() to avoid accesses to it before highmem
is enabled.
To test this:
1. Enable HIGHMEM in ARC config
2. Enable 2 memory banks in haps_hs.dts (uncomment the 2nd bank)
