a2bff2694b cfg80211: avoid flushing the global workqueue for core reg hints
When cfg80211 starts it will send a core regulatory hint. This is
sent to the global workqueue but we force processing of it by
flushing the global workqueue. The flushing was done since
cfg80211 needs last_request to always be populated.

Avoid flushing the global workqueue by processing the work
required immediately instead of putting it into a linked
list and processing it after the flush.

84920e3e47 cfg80211: make regulatory_hint_11d() band specific
In practice APs do not send country IE channel triplets for channels
the AP is not operating on and if they were to do so they would have
to use the regulatory extension which we currently do not process.
No AP has been seen in practice that does this though so just drop
those country IEs.

Additionally it has been noted the first series of country IE
channels triplets are specific to the band the AP sends. Propagate
the band on which the country IE was found on reject the country
IE then if the triplets are ever oustide of the band.

Although we now won't process country IE information with multiple
band information we leave the intersection work as is as it is
technically possible for someone to want to eventually process these
type of country IEs with regulatory extensions.

a0f2e0fca1 cfg80211: Ingore country IEs with a zero set of number of channels
Previous to this and the last patch, titled,

"cfg80211: Fix 2 GHz subband calculation for country IEs"

we would end up treating these IEs as single channel units. These are in
fact just bogus IE triplets so ignore the entire IE if these are found.

e99c7cd57b cfg80211: fix 2 GHz subband calculation for country IEs
Country IEs triplets are getting an extra channel with
the current count. This does not affect regulatory because
we always took the intersection between what the AP gave
and what CRDA believed is correct.

This however does fix processing some Country IEs with multiple
sequential 2 GHz triplets. Since our parser and the spec mandates
all channels be monitonically increasing we would drop the IE after
noticing the second triplet begins on a channel already processed.
APs that send these type of country IEs seems rare though.

cc5d8a3772 cfg80211: Fix country IE parsing for single channel triplets
This enhances the way we parse country IEs to minimize
the number of regulatory rules that we create. It also fixes
our current implementation which treated country IE triplets
with only one channel as one independed regulatory rule even
though adjecent rules were also being provided.

Without this patch APs which send country IE information with
a channel triplet for each individual channel will force cfg80211
to deny HT40 operation as a regulatory rule would have been created
independently for each channel and as such configured only for
20 MHz operation.

Although 802.11n APs which send country IEs triplets in this fassion
are likely rare Benoit reports this against the Ubiquity NanoStation M5,
with Country "FR" and HT40 enabled.

Since we now have a helper which parses the triplets in intermediate
steps we now take care extra care to process padding.

08030db6e5 cfg80211: process the max power on a country IE
The max power from each country IE triplet was being ignored.
This fix isn't critical as CRDA was always being used for the lower
limit, but we should process it in case the AP still wants to
decrease power output even more for whatever reason.

3b377ea9d4 wireless: support internal statically compiled regulatory database
This patch provides infrastructure for machine translation of the
regulatory rules database used by CRDA into a C data structure.
It includes code for searching that database as an alternative

use CRDA instead of this infrastructure, but it provides a better
alternative than the WIRELESS_OLD_REGULATORY infrastructure (which

8b19e6ca3b cfg80211: enable country IE support to all cfg80211 drivers
Since the bss is always set now once we are connected, if the
bss has its own information element we refer to it and pass that
instead of relying on mac80211's parsing.

Now all cfg80211 drivers get country IE support, automatically and
we reduce the call overhead that we had on mac80211 which called this
upon every beacon and instead now call this only upon a successfull
connection by a STA on cfg80211.

abc7381bcc cfg80211: decouple regulatory variables from cfg80211_mutex
We change regulatory code to be protected by its own regulatory
mutex and alleviate cfg80211_mutex to only be used to protect

without having to have hog up the cfg80211_mutex. An example here is
we no longer need to use the cfg80211_mutex during driver specific
wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory(). We also no longer need it for the
the country IE regulatory hint; by doing so we end up curing this

4b44c8bc4d cfg80211: do not iterate over rdev list on country IE hint
Simplify the country IE hint code by just bailing out if
a previous country IE has been issued. We currently just trust
the first AP we connect to on any card. The idea was to perform
conflict resolution within this routine but since we can no longer
iterate over the registered device list here we leave conflict
resolution to be dealt with at a later time on the workqueue.

This code has no functional changes other than saving us an
interation over the registered device list when a second card
is connected, or you unplug and connect the same one, and a
country IE is received. This would have been done upon every
beacon received.

371842448c cfg80211: fix regression on beacon world roaming feature
A regression was added through patch a4ed90d6:

"cfg80211: respect API on orig_flags on channel for beacon hint"

We did indeed respect _orig flags but the intention was not clearly
stated in the commit log. This patch fixes firmware issues picked
up by iwlwifi when we lift passive scan of beaconing restrictions
on channels its EEPROM has been configured to always enable.

By doing so though we also disallowed beacon hints on devices
registering their wiphy with custom world regulatory domains
enabled, this happens to be currently ath5k, ath9k and ar9170.
The passive scan and beacon restrictions on those devices would
never be lifted even if we did find a beacon and the hardware did
support such enhancements when world roaming.

Since Johannes indicates iwlwifi firmware cannot be changed to
allow beacon hinting we set up a flag now to specifically allow
drivers to disable beacon hints for devices which cannot use them.

We enable the flag on iwlwifi to disable beacon hints and by default
enable it for all other drivers. It should be noted beacon hints lift
passive scan flags and beacon restrictions when we receive a beacon from
an AP on any 5 GHz non-DFS channels, and channels 12-14 on the 2.4 GHz
band. We don't bother with channels 1-11 as those channels are allowed
world wide.

This should fix world roaming for ath5k, ath9k and ar9170, thereby
improving scan time when we receive the first beacon from any AP,
and also enabling beaconing operation (AP/IBSS/Mesh) on cards which
would otherwise not be allowed to do so. Drivers not using custom
regulatory stuff (wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory()) were not affected
by this as the orig_flags for the channels would have been cleared
upon wiphy registration.

I tested this with a world roaming ath5k card.

ae9e4b0d1a cfg80211: treat ieee80211_regdom hints as user hints
We were treating ieee80211_regdom module parameter hints
as core hints, this means we were not letting the user help
compliance further when using the module parameter. It also
meant that users with a device with a custom regulatory
domain set (wiphy->custom_regulatory) using this module
parameter were being stuck to the original default core
static regualtory domain. We fix this by using the static
cfg80211_regdomain alpha2 as the core hint and treating the
module parameter separately.

All iwlwifi and ath5k/ath9k/ar9170 devices which world roam
set the wiphy->custom_regulatory. This change allows users
using this module parameter to have it trated as a a proper
user hint and not have it ignored.

729e9c7663 cfg80211: fix for duplicate userspace replies
This fixes an incorrect assumption (BUG_ON) made in
cfg80211 when handling country IE regulatory requests.
The assumption was that we won't try to call_crda()
twice for the same event and therefore we will not
recieve two replies through nl80211 for the regulatory
request. As it turns out it is true we don't call_crda()
twice for the same event, however, kobject_uevent_env()
*might* send the udev event twice and/or userspace can
simply process the udev event twice. We remove the BUG_ON()
and simply ignore the duplicate request.

For details refer to this thread:

61405e9778 cfg80211: fix in nl80211_set_reg()
There is a race on access to last_request and its alpha2

038659e7c6 cfg80211: Process regulatory max bandwidth checks for HT40
We are not correctly listening to the regulatory max bandwidth
settings. To actually make use of it we need to redesign things
a bit. This patch does the work for that. We do this to so we
can obey to regulatory rules accordingly for use of HT40.

We end up dealing with HT40 by having two passes for each channel.

The first check will see if a 20 MHz channel fits into the channel's
center freq on a given frequency range. We check for a 20 MHz
banwidth channel as that is the maximum an individual channel
will use, at least for now. The first pass will go ahead and
check if the regulatory rule for that given center of frequency
allows 40 MHz bandwidths and we use this to determine whether
or not the channel supports HT40 or not. So to support HT40 you'll
need at a regulatory rule that allows you to use 40 MHz channels
but you're channel must also be enabled and support 20 MHz by itself.

The second pass is done after we do the regulatory checks over
an device's supported channel list. On each channel we'll check
if the control channel and the extension both:

 o exist
 o are enabled
o regulatory allows 40 MHz bandwidth on its frequency range

This work allows allows us to idependently check for HT40- and
HT40+.

ac46d48e00 cfg80211: fix race condition with wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory()
We forgot to lock using the cfg80211_mutex in
wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory(). Without the lock
there is possible race between processing a reply from CRDA
and a driver calling wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory(). During
the processing of the reply from CRDA we free last_request and
wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory() eventually accesses an
element from last_request in the through freq_reg_info_regd().

This is very difficult to reproduce (I haven't), it takes us
3 hours and you need to be banging hard, but the race is obvious
by looking at the code.

This should only affect those who use this caller, which currently
is ath5k, ath9k, and ar9170.

d323655372 cfg80211: clean up includes
Trying to separate header files into net/wireless.h and
net/cfg80211.h has been a source of confusion. Remove
net/wireless.h (because there also is the linux/wireless.h)
and subsume everything into net/cfg80211.h -- except the
definitions for regulatory structures which get moved to
a new header net/regulatory.h.

The "new" net/cfg80211.h is now divided into sections.

There are no real changes in this patch but code shuffling
and some very minor documentation fixes.

I have also, to make things reflect reality, put in a
copyright line for Luis to net/regulatory.h since that
is probably exclusively written by him but was formerly
in a file that only had my copyright line.

It seems a few users are using this module parameter although its not

Until userspace and distributions catch up with a default userspace
automatic replacement (GeoClue integration would be nirvana) we copy
the ieee80211_regdom module parameter from OLD_REG to the new reg
code to help these users migrate.

Users who are using the non-valid ISO / IEC 3166 alpha "EU" in their
ieee80211_regdom module parameter and migrate to non-OLD_REG enabled
system will world roam.

This also schedules removal of this same ieee80211_regdom module

users will abandoned the module parameter completely.

e38f8a7a8b cfg80211: Add AP beacon regulatory hints
When devices are world roaming they cannot beacon or do active scan
on 5 GHz or on channels 12, 13 and 14 on the 2 GHz band. Although
we have a good regulatory API some cards may _always_ world roam, this
is also true when a system does not have CRDA present. Devices doing world
roaming can still passive scan, if they find a beacon from an AP on
one of the world roaming frequencies we make the assumption we can do
the same and we also remove the passive scan requirement.

This adds support for providing beacon regulatory hints based on scans.
This works for devices that do either hardware or software scanning.
If a channel has not yet been marked as having had a beacon present
on it we queue the beacon hint processing into the workqueue.

All wireless devices will benefit from beacon regulatory hints from
any wireless device on a system including new devices connected to
the system at a later time.

bcf4f99b7b cfg80211: propagate -ENOMEM during regulatory_init()
Calling kobject_uevent_env() can fail mainly due to out of
memory conditions. We do not want to continue during such
conditions so propagate that as well instead of letting
cfg80211 load as if everything is peachy.

Additionally lets clarify that when CRDA is not called during
cfg80211's initialization _and_ if the error is not an -ENOMEM
its because kobject_uevent_env() failed to call CRDA, not because
CRDA failed. For those who want to find out why we also let you
do so by enabling the kernel config CONFIG_CFG80211_REG_DEBUG --
you'll get an actual stack trace.

So for now we'll treat non -ENOMEM kobject_uevent_env() failures as
non fatal during cfg80211's initialization.

0c7dc45d21 cfg80211: Fix regression with 11d on bands
This fixes a regression on disallowing bands introduced with the new
802.11d support. The issue is that IEEE-802.11 allows APs to send
a subset of what a country regulatory domain defines. This was clarified
in this document:

http://tinyurl.com/11d-clarification

As such it is possible, and this is what is done in practice, that a
single band 2.4 GHz AP will only send 2.4 GHz band regulatory information
through the 802.11 country information element and then the current
intersection with what CRDA provided yields a regulatory domain with
no 5 GHz information -- even though that country may actually allow
5 GHz operation. We correct this by only applying the intersection rules
on a channel if the the intersection yields a regulatory rule on the
same band the channel is on.

within the new regulatory infrastructure in cfg80211. We parse
the country IEs only on management beacons for the BSSID you are

(indoor, outdoor, any) matches the already processed country IE.

To avoid following misinformed or outdated APs we build and use
a regulatory domain out of the intersection between what the AP
provides us on the country IE and what CRDA is aware is allowed
on the same country.

A secondary device is allowed to follow only the same country IE
as it make no sense for two devices on a system to be in two
different countries.

In the case the AP is using country IEs for an incorrect country
the user may help compliance further by setting the regulatory
domain before or after the IE is parsed and in that case another
intersection will be performed.

b8295acdc3 cfg80211: separate intersection section in __set_regdom()
So far the __set_regdom() code is pretty generic as the
intersection case is fairly straight forward; this will however
change when 802.11d support is added so lets separate intersection
code for now in preparation for 802.11d support.

This patch only has slight functional changes.

9c96477d10 cfg80211: Add regulatory domain intersection capability
There are certain scenerios where we require intersecting
two regulatory domains. This adds intersection support.
When we enable 802.11d support we will use this to intersect
the regulatory domain from the AP's country IE and what our
regulatory agent believes is correct for a country.

This patch enables intersection for now in the case where
the last regdomain was set by a country IE which was parsed
and the user then wants to set the regulatory domain. Since
we don't support country IE parsing yet this code path will not
be hit, however this allows us to pave the way for 11d support.

Intersection code has been tested in userspace with CRDA.

2083c4997b wireless: clean up regulatory ignore_request function
This function has a few WARNs that may eventually trigger
when an AP sends rogue beacons, those must be removed. Some
of the comments in the function are also inappropriate as
this function is concerned with the global hint, not a per-
wiphy thing (which a multidomain flag on a wiphy would imply).

I'm convinced that we don't need to do anything to implement
multi-domain capability as 802.11-2007 specifies it because
it makes only two things mandatory:
 * starting of BSS/IBSS must have country information
(this can easily be done with a mac80211 patch)
 * a STA must adopt the country information (we already have
   the framework for this)

But we don't have anything implemented anyway for now.

b2e1b30290 cfg80211: Add new wireless regulatory infrastructure
This adds the new wireless regulatory infrastructure. The
main motiviation behind this was to centralize regulatory
code as each driver was implementing their own regulatory solution,
and to replace the initial centralized code we have where:

* only 3 regulatory domains are supported: US, JP and EU
* regulatory domains can only be changed through module parameter
* all rules were built statically in the kernel

We now have support for regulatory domains for many countries
and regulatory domains are now queried through a userspace agent
through udev allowing distributions to update regulatory rules
without updating the kernel.

Each driver can regulatory_hint() a regulatory domain
based on either their EEPROM mapped regulatory domain value to a
respective ISO/IEC 3166-1 country code or pass an internally built
regulatory domain. We also add support to let the user set the
regulatory domain through userspace in case of faulty EEPROMs to
further help compliance.

Support for world roaming will be added soon for cards capable of
this.

For more information see:

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/developers/Regulatory/CRDA

For now we leave an option to enable the old module parameter,
ieee80211_regdom, and to build the 3 old regdomains statically
(US, JP and EU). This option is CONFIG_WIRELESS_OLD_REGULATORY.
These old static definitions and the module parameter is being
scheduled for removal for 2.6.29. Note that if you use this
you won't make use of a world regulatory domain as its pointless.
If you leave this option enabled and if CRDA is present and you
use US or JP we will try to ask CRDA to update us a regulatory
domain for us.

8318d78a44 cfg80211 API for channels/bitrates, mac80211 and driver conversion
This patch creates new cfg80211 wiphy API for channel and bitrate
registration and converts mac80211 and drivers to the new API. The
old mac80211 API is completely ripped out. All drivers (except ath5k)
are updated to the new API, in many cases I expect that optimisations
can be done.

Along with the regulatory code I've also ripped out the
IEEE80211_HW_DEFAULT_REG_DOMAIN_CONFIGURED flag, I believe it to be
unnecessary if the hardware simply gives us whatever channels it wants
to support and we then enable/disable them as required, which is pretty
much required for travelling.

Additionally, the patch adds proper "basic" rate handling for STA
mode interface, AP mode interface will have to have new API added
to allow userspace to set the basic rate set, currently it'll be
empty... However, the basic rate handling will need to be moved to
the BSS conf stuff.

I do expect there to be bugs in this, especially wrt. transmit
power handling where I'm basically clueless about how it should work.
