New subflows are created within the kernel using O_NONBLOCK, so
EINPROGRESS is the expected return value from kernel_connect().
__mptcp_subflow_connect() has the correct logic to consider EINPROGRESS
to be a successful case, but it has also used that error code as its
return value.
Before v5.19 this was benign: all the callers ignored the return
value. Starting in v5.19 there is a MPTCP_PM_CMD_SUBFLOW_CREATE generic
netlink command that does use the return value, so the EINPROGRESS gets
propagated to userspace.
Make __mptcp_subflow_connect() always return 0 on success instead.

When the listener socket owning the relevant request is closed,
it frees the unaccepted subflows and that causes later deletion
of the paired MPTCP sockets.
The mptcp socket's worker can run in the time interval between such delete
operations. When that happens, any access to msk->first will cause an UaF
access, as the subflow cleanup did not cleared such field in the mptcp
socket.
Address the issue explicitly traversing the listener socket accept
queue at close time and performing the needed cleanup on the pending
msk.
Note that the locking is a bit tricky, as we need to acquire the msk
socket lock, while still owning the subflow socket one.

When the MPTCP receive path reach a non fatal fall-back condition, e.g.
when the MPC sockets must fall-back to TCP, the existing code is a little
self-inconsistent: it reports that new data is available - return true -
but sets the MPC flag to the opposite value.
As the consequence read operations in some exceptional scenario may block
unexpectedly.
Address the issue setting the correct MPC read status. Additionally avoid
some code duplication in the fatal fall-back scenario.

If the MPTCP socket shutdown happens before a fallback
to TCP, and all the pending data have been already spooled,
we never close the TCP connection.
Address the issue explicitly checking for critical condition
at fallback time.

mptcp_mp_fail_no_response shouldn't be invoked on each worker run, it
should be invoked only when MP_FAIL response timeout occurs.
This patch refactors the MP_FAIL response logic.
It leverages the fact that only the MPC/first subflow can gracefully
fail to avoid unneeded subflows traversal: the failing subflow can
be only msk->first.
A new 'fail_tout' field is added to the subflow context to record the
MP_FAIL response timeout and use such field to reliably share the
timeout timer between the MP_FAIL event and the MPTCP socket close
timeout.
Finally, a new ack is generated to send out MP_FAIL notification as soon
as we hit the relevant condition, instead of waiting a possibly unbound
time for the next data packet.

MP_FAIL timeout (waiting for a peer to respond to an MP_FAIL with
another MP_FAIL) is implemented using the MPTCP socket's sk_timer. That
timer is also used at MPTCP socket close, so it's important to not have
the two timer users interfere with each other.
At MPTCP socket close, all subflows are orphaned before sk_timer is
manipulated. By checking the SOCK_DEAD flag on the subflows, each
subflow can determine if the timer is safe to alter without acquiring
any MPTCP-level lock. This replaces code that was using the
mptcp_data_lock and MPTCP-level socket state checks that did not
correctly protect the timer.

The mentioned helper requires the msk socket lock, and the
current callers don't own it nor can't acquire it, so the
access is racy.
All the current callers are really checking for infinite mapping
fallback, and the latter condition is explicitly tracked by
the relevant msk variable: we can safely remove the caller usage
- and the caller itself.
The issue is present since MP_FAIL implementation, but the
fix only applies since the infinite fallback support, ence the
somewhat unexpected fixes tag.

RFC 8684 section 3.7 describes several opportunities for a MPTCP
connection to "fall back" to regular TCP early in the connection
process, before it has been confirmed that MPTCP options can be
successfully propagated on all SYN, SYN/ACK, and data packets. If a peer
acknowledges the first received data packet with a regular TCP header
(no MPTCP options), fallback is allowed.
If the recipient of that first data packet finds a MPTCP DSS checksum
error, this provides an opportunity to fail gracefully with a TCP
fallback rather than resetting the connection (as might happen if a
checksum failure were detected later).
This commit modifies the checksum failure code to attempt fallback on
the initial subflow of a MPTCP connection, only if it's a failure in the
first data mapping. In cases where the peer initiates the connection,
requests checksums, is the first to send data, and the peer is sending
incorrect checksums (see
https://github.com/multipath-tcp/mptcp_net-next/issues/275), this allows
the connection to proceed as TCP rather than reset.

The MPTCP code typecasts the checksum value to u16 and
then converts it to big endian while storing the value into
the MPTCP option.
As a result, the wire encoding for little endian host is
wrong, and that causes interoperabilty interoperability
issues with other implementation or host with different endianness.
Address the issue writing in the packet the unmodified __sum16 value.
MPTCP checksum is disabled by default, interoperating with systems
with bad mptcp-level csum encoding should cause fallback to TCP.

If the PM closes a fully established MPJ subflow or the subflow
creation errors out in it's early stage the subflows counter is
not bumped accordingly.
This change adds the missing accounting, additionally taking care
of updating accordingly the 'accept_subflow' flag.

This change reads the addr id assigned to the remote endpoint
of a subflow from the MP_JOIN SYN/ACK message and stores it
in the related subflow context. The remote id was not being
captured prior to this change, and will now provide a consistent
view of remote endpoints and their ids as seen through netlink
events.

Current limits on the # of addresses/subflows must apply only to
in-kernel PM managed sockets. Thus this change removes such
restrictions on connections overseen by non-kernel (e.g. userspace)
PMs. This change also ensures that the kernel does not record stats
inside struct mptcp_pm_data updated along kernel code paths when exercised
via non-kernel PMs.
Additionally, address announcements are acknolwedged and subflow
requests are honored only when it's deemed that a userspace path
manager is active at the time.

This patch adds a new msk->flags bit MPTCP_FAIL_NO_RESPONSE, then reuses
sk_timer to trigger a check if we have not received a response from the
peer after sending MP_FAIL. If the peer doesn't respond properly, reset
the subflow.

This patch adds a new member allow_infinite_fallback in mptcp_sock,
which is initialized to 'true' when the connection begins and is set
to 'false' on any retransmit or successful MP_JOIN. Only do infinite
mapping fallback if there is a single subflow AND there have been no
retransmissions AND there have never been any MP_JOINs.

The address ID selection for MPJ subflows created in response
to incoming ADD_ADDR option is currently unreliable: it happens
at MPJ socket creation time, when the local address could be
unknown.
Additionally, if the no local endpoint is available for the local
address, a new dummy endpoint is created, confusing the user-land.
This change refactor the code to move the address ID selection inside
the rebuild_header() helper, when the local address eventually
selected by the route lookup is finally known. If the address used
is not mapped by any endpoint - and thus can't be advertised/removed
pick the id 0 instead of allocate a new endpoint.

These structures are initialised from the init hooks, so we can't make
them 'const'. But no writes occur afterwards, so we can use ro_after_init.

Currently the msk->flags bitmask carries both state for the
mptcp_release_cb() - mostly touched under the mptcp data lock
- and others state info touched even outside such lock scope.
As a consequence, msk->flags is always manipulated with
atomic operations.
This change splits such bitmask in two separate fields, so
that we use plain bit operations when touching the
cb-related info.
The MPTCP_PUSH_PENDING bit needs additional care, as it is the
only CB related field currently accessed either under the mptcp
data lock or the mptcp socket lock.
Let's add another mask just for such bit's sake.

We can simplify the join list handling leveraging the
mptcp_release_cb(): if we can acquire the msk socket
lock at mptcp_finish_join time, move the new subflow
directly into the conn_list, otherwise place it on join_list and
let the release_cb process such list.
Since pending MPJ connection are now always processed
in a timely way, we can avoid flushing the join list
every time we have to process all the current subflows.
Additionally we can now use the mptcp data lock to protect
the join_list, removing the additional spin lock.
Finally, the MPJ handshake is now always finalized under the
msk socket lock, we can drop the additional synchronization
between mptcp_finish_join() and mptcp_close().

After the previous patch, msk->subflow will never be deleted during
the whole msk lifetime. We don't need anymore to acquire references to
it in mptcp_stream_accept() and we can use the listener subflow accept
queue to simplify mptcp_poll() for listener socket.
Overall this removes a lock pair and 4 more atomic operations per
accept().

mptcp_token_get_sock() may return a mptcp socket that is in
a different net namespace than the socket that received the token value.
The mptcp syncookie code path had an explicit check for this,
this moves the test into mptcp_token_get_sock() function.
Eventually token.c should be converted to pernet storage, but
such change is not suitable for net tree.

When a bad checksum is detected, set the send_mp_fail flag to send out
the MP_FAIL option.
Add a new function mptcp_has_another_subflow() to check whether there's
only a single subflow.
When multiple subflows are in use, close the affected subflow with a RST
that includes an MP_FAIL option and discard the data with the bad
checksum.
Set the sk_state of the subsocket to TCP_CLOSE, then the flag
MPTCP_WORK_CLOSE_SUBFLOW will be set in subflow_sched_work_if_closed,
and the subflow will be closed.
When a single subfow is in use, temporarily handled by sending MP_FAIL
with a RST too.

Lots of "TCP: tcp_fin: Impossible, sk->sk_state=7" in client side
when doing stress testing using wrk and webfsd.
There are at least two cases may trigger this warning:
1.mptcp is in syncookie, and server recv MP_JOIN SYN request,
in subflow_check_req(), the mptcp_can_accept_new_subflow()
return false, so subflow_init_req_cookie_join_save() isn't
called, i.e. not store the data present in the MP_JOIN syn
request and the random nonce in hash table - join_entries[],
but still send synack. When recv 3rd-ack,
mptcp_token_join_cookie_init_state() will return false, and
3rd-ack is dropped, then if mptcp conn is closed by client,
client will send a DATA_FIN and a MPTCP FIN, the DATA_FIN
doesn't have MP_CAPABLE or MP_JOIN,
so mptcp_subflow_init_cookie_req() will return 0, and pass
the cookie check, MP_JOIN request is fallback to normal TCP.
Server will send a TCP FIN if closed, in client side,
when process TCP FIN, it will do reset, the code path is:
tcp_data_queue()->mptcp_incoming_options()
->check_fully_established()->mptcp_subflow_reset().
mptcp_subflow_reset() will set sock state to TCP_CLOSE,
so tcp_fin will hit TCP_CLOSE, and print the warning.
2.mptcp is in syncookie, and server recv 3rd-ack, in
mptcp_subflow_init_cookie_req(), mptcp_can_accept_new_subflow()
return false, and subflow_req->mp_join is not set to 1,
so in subflow_syn_recv_sock() will not reset the MP_JOIN
subflow, but fallback to normal TCP, and then the same thing
happens when server will send a TCP FIN if closed.
For case1, subflow_check_req() return -EPERM,
then tcp_conn_request() will drop MP_JOIN SYN.
For case2, let subflow_syn_recv_sock() call
mptcp_can_accept_new_subflow(), and do fatal fallback, send reset.

In subflow_check_req(), if subflow sport is mismatch, will put msk,
destroy token, and destruct req, then return -EPERM, which can be
done by subflow_req_destructor() via:
tcp_conn_request()
|--__reqsk_free()
|--subflow_req_destructor()
So we should remove these redundant code, otherwise will call
tcp_v4_reqsk_destructor() twice, and may double free
inet_rsk(req)->ireq_opt.

This patch added a new flag named deny_join_id0 in struct
mptcp_options_received. Set it when MP_CAPABLE with the flag
MPTCP_CAP_DENYJOIN_ID0 is received.
Also add a new flag remote_deny_join_id0 in struct mptcp_pm_data. When the
flag deny_join_id0 is set, set this remote_deny_join_id0 flag.
In mptcp_pm_create_subflow_or_signal_addr, if the remote_deny_join_id0 flag
is set, and the remote address id is zero, stop this connection.

This patch defined a new flag MPTCP_CAP_DENY_JOIN_ID0 for the third bit,
labeled "C" of the MP_CAPABLE option.
Add a new flag allow_join_id0 in struct mptcp_out_options. If this flag is
set, send out the MP_CAPABLE option with the flag MPTCP_CAP_DENY_JOIN_ID0.

The msk socket state is currently updated in a few spots without
owning the msk socket lock itself.
Some of such operations are safe, as they happens before exposing
the msk socket to user-space and can't race with other changes.
A couple of them, at connect time, can actually race with close()
or shutdown(), leaving breaking the socket state machine.
This change addresses the issue moving such update under the msk
socket lock with the usual:
<acquire spinlock>
<check sk lock onwers>
<ev defer to release_cb>
scheme.

The current implementation of 32 bit DSN expansion is buggy.
After the previous patch, we can simply reuse the newly
introduced helper to do the expansion safely.

This patch added three new members named data_csum, csum_len and
map_csum in struct mptcp_subflow_context, implemented a new function
named mptcp_validate_data_checksum().
If the current mapping is valid and csum is enabled traverse the later
pending skbs and compute csum incrementally till the whole mapping has
been covered. If not enough data is available in the rx queue, return
MAPPING_EMPTY - that is, no data.
Next subflow_data_ready invocation will trigger again csum computation.
When the full DSS is available, validate the csum and return to the
caller an appropriate error code, to trigger subflow reset of fallback
as required by the RFC.
Additionally:
- if the csum prevence in the DSS don't match the negotiated value e.g.
csum present, but not requested, return invalid mapping to trigger
subflow reset.
- keep some csum state, to avoid re-compute the csum on the same data
when multiple rx queue traversal are required.
- clean-up the uncompleted mapping from the receive queue on close, to
allow proper subflow disposal

This patch added a new flag csum_reqd in struct mptcp_options_received, if
the flag MPTCP_CAP_CHECKSUM_REQD is set in the receiving MP_CAPABLE
suboption, set this flag.
In mptcp_sk_clone and subflow_finish_connect, if the csum_reqd flag is set,
enable the msk->csum_enabled flag.

In mptcp_write_options, if this field is enabled, send out the MP_CAPABLE

warn_bad_map() produces a kernel WARN on bad input coming
from the network. Use pr_debug() to avoid spamming the system
log.
Additionally, when the right bound check fails, warn_bad_map() reports
the wrong ssn value, let's fix it.

races:

For outgoing subflow join, when recv SYNACK, in subflow_finish_connect(),
the mptcp_finish_join() may return false in some cases, and send a RESET
to remote, and no local hmac is required.
So generate subflow hmac after mptcp_finish_join().

When some mapping related errors occurs we close the main
MPC subflow with a RST. We should instead fallback gracefully
to TCP, and do the reset only for MPJ subflows.

In subflow_syn_recv_sock() we currently skip options parsing
for OoO packet, given that such packets may not carry the relevant
MPC option.
If the peer generates an MPC+data TSO packet and some of the early
segments are lost or get reorder, we server will ignore the peer key,
causing transient, unexpected fallback to TCP.
The solution is always parsing the incoming MPTCP options, and
do the fallback only for in-order packets. This actually cleans
the existing code a bit.

If userspace exits before calling accept() on a listener that had at least
one new connection ready, we get:
Attempt to release TCP socket in state 8
This happens because the mptcp socket gets cloned when the TCP connection
is ready, but the socket is never exposed to userspace.
The client additionally sends a DATA_FIN, which brings connection into
CLOSE_WAIT state. This in turn prevents the orphan+state reset fixup
in mptcp_sock_destruct() from doing its job.

Paolo Abeni suggested to avoid re-syncing new subflows because
they inherit options from listener. In case options were set on
listener but are not set on mptcp-socket there is no need to
do any synchronisation for new subflows.
This change sets sockopt_seq of new mptcp sockets to the seq of
the mptcp listener sock.
Subflow sequence is set to the embedded tcp listener sk.
Add a comment explaing why sk_state is involved in sockopt_seq
generation.

Handle following cases:
1. setsockopt is called with multiple subflows.
Change might have to be mirrored to all of them.
This is done directly in process context/setsockopt call.
2. Outgoing subflow is created after one or several setsockopt()
calls have been made. Old setsockopt changes should be
synced to the new socket.
3. Incoming subflow, after setsockopt call(s).
Cases 2 and 3 are handled right after the join list is spliced to the conn
list.
Not all sockopt values can be just be copied by value, some require
helper calls. Those can acquire socket lock (which can sleep).
If the join->conn list splicing is done from preemptible context,
synchronization can be done right away, otherwise its deferred to work
queue.

This patch moved the flags and ifindex fields from struct mptcp_addr_info
to struct mptcp_pm_addr_entry. Add the flags and ifindex values as two new
parameters to __mptcp_subflow_connect.
In mptcp_pm_create_subflow_or_signal_addr, pass the local address entry's
flags and ifindex fields to __mptcp_subflow_connect.
In mptcp_pm_nl_add_addr_received, just pass two zeros to it.

The MPTCP reset option allows to carry a mptcp-specific error code that
provides more information on the nature of a connection reset.
Reset option data received gets stored in the subflow context so it can
be sent to userspace via the 'subflow closed' netlink event.
When a subflow is closed, the desired error code that should be sent to
the peer is also placed in the subflow context structure.
If a reset is sent before subflow establishment could complete, e.g. on
HMAC failure during an MP_JOIN operation, the mptcp skb extension is
used to store the reset information.

Commit 6af1799aaf ("ipv6: drop incoming packets having a v4mapped
source address") introduced an input check against v4mapped addresses.
Use of such addresses on the wire is indeed questionable and not
allowed on public Internet. As the commit pointed out
https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-itojun-v6ops-v4mapped-harmful-02
lists potential issues.
Unfortunately there are applications which use v4mapped addresses,
and breaking them is a clear regression. For example v4mapped
addresses (or any semi-valid addresses, really) may be used
for uni-direction event streams or packet export.
Since the issue which sparked the addition of the check was with
TCP and request_socks in particular push the check down to TCPv6
and DCCP. This restores the ability to receive UDPv6 packets with
v4mapped address as the source.
Keep using the IPSTATS_MIB_INHDRERRORS statistic to minimize the
user-visible changes.

When the port number is mismatched with the announced ones, use
'goto dispose_child' to free the resources instead of using 'goto out'.
This patch also moves the port number checking code in
subflow_syn_recv_sock before mptcp_finish_join, otherwise subflow_drop_ctx
will fail in dispose_child.

mptcp_add_pending_subflow() performs a sock_hold() on the subflow,
then adds the subflow to the join list.
Without a sock_put the subflow sk won't be freed in case connect() fails.

MPJ subflows are not exposed as fds to user spaces. As such,
incoming MPJ subflows are removed from the accept queue by
tcp_check_req()/tcp_get_cookie_sock().
Later tcp_child_process() invokes subflow_data_ready() on the
parent socket regardless of the subflow kind, leading to poll
wakeups even if the later accept will block.
Address the issue by double-checking the queue state before
waking the user-space.

When remote side closes a subflow we should schedule the worker to
dispose of the subflow in a timely manner.
Otherwise, SF_CLOSED event won't be generated until the mptcp
socket itself is closing or local side is closing another subflow.

The mptcp subflow route_req() callback performs the subflow
req initialization after the route_req() check. If the latter
fails, mptcp-specific bits of the current request sockets
are left uninitialized.
The above causes bad things at req socket disposal time, when
the mptcp resources are cleared.
This change addresses the issue by splitting subflow_init_req()
into the actual initialization and the mptcp-specific checks.
The initialization is moved before any possibly failing check.

Currently all errors received on msk subflows are ignored.
We need to catch at least the errors on connect() and
on fallback sockets.
Use a custom sk_error_report callback at subflow level,
and do the real action under the msk socket lock - via
the usual sock_owned_by_user()/release_callback() schema.

receiving the MP_JOIN's SYN/SYNACK/ACK, we do these port number checks
and print out the different port numbers.
And furthermore, when receiving the MP_JOIN's SYN/ACK, we also use a new
helper mptcp_pm_sport_in_anno_list to check whether this port number is
announced. If it isn't, we need to abort this connection.
This patch also populates the local address's port field in
local_address.

This patch adds a new helper named subflow_req_create_thmac, which is
extracted from subflow_token_join_request. It initializes subflow_req's
local_nonce and thmac fields, those are the more expensive to populate.

This patch creates a listening socket when an address with a port-number
is added by PM netlink. Then binds the new port to the socket, and
listens for new connections.
When the address is removed or the addresses are flushed by PM netlink,
release the listening socket.

With an IPv4 mapped in v6 socket, we were trying to call inet6_bind()
with an IPv4 address resulting in a -EINVAL error because the given
addr_len -- size of the address structure -- was too short.
We now make sure to use address structures for the same family as the
MPTCP socket for both the bind() and the connect(). It means we convert
v4 addresses to v4 mapped in v6 or the opposite if needed.

On MPTCP-level ack reception, the packet scheduler
may select a subflow other then the current one.
Prior to this commit we rely on the workqueue to trigger
action on such subflow.
This changeset introduces an infrastructure that allows
any MPTCP subflow to schedule actions (MPTCP xmit) on
others subflows without resorting to (multiple) process
reschedule.
A dummy NAPI instance is used instead. When MPTCP needs to
trigger action an a different subflow, it enqueues the target
subflow on the NAPI backlog and schedule such instance as needed.
The dummy NAPI poll method walks the sockets backlog and tries
to acquire the (BH) socket lock on each of them. If the socket
is owned by the user space, the action will be completed by
the sock release cb, otherwise push is started.
This change leverages the delegated action infrastructure
to avoid invoking the MPTCP worker to spool the pending data,
when the packet scheduler picks a subflow other then the one
currently processing the incoming MPTCP-level ack.
Additionally we further refine the subflow selection
invoking the packet scheduler for each chunk of data
even inside __mptcp_subflow_push_pending().

After commit 6e628cd3a8 ("mptcp: use mptcp release_cb for
delayed tasks"), MPTCP never sets the flag bit SOCK_NOSPACE
on its subflow. As a side effect, autotune never takes place,
as it happens inside tcp_new_space(), which in turn is called
only when the mentioned bit is set.
Let's sendmsg() set the subflows NOSPACE bit when looking for
more memory and use the subflow write_space callback to propagate
the snd buf update and wake-up the user-space.
Additionally, this allows dropping a bunch of duplicate code and
makes the SNDBUF_LIMITED chrono relevant again for MPTCP subflows.

Currently, incoming subflows link to the parent socket,
while outgoing ones link to a per subflow socket. The latter
is not really needed, except at the initial connect() time and
for the first subflow.
Always graft the outgoing subflow to the parent socket and
free the unneeded ones early.
This allows some code cleanup, reduces the amount of memory
used and will simplify the next patch

It has been observed that the kernel sockets created for the subflows
(except the first one) are not in the same cgroup as their parents.
That's because the additional subflows are created by kernel workers.
This is a problem with eBPF programs attached to the parent's
cgroup won't be executed for the children. But also with any other features
of CGroup linked to a sk.
This patch fixes this behaviour.
As the subflow sockets are created by the kernel, we can't use
'mem_cgroup_sk_alloc' because of the current context being the one of the
kworker. This is why we have to do low level memcg manipulation, if
required.

When a MPTCP listener socket is closed with unaccepted
children pending, the ULP release callback will be invoked,
but nobody will call into __mptcp_close_ssk() on the
corresponding subflow.
As a consequence, at ULP release time, the 'disposable' flag
will be cleared and the subflow context memory will be leaked.
This change addresses the issue always freeing the context if
the subflow is still in the accept queue at ULP release time.
Additionally, this fixes an incorrect code reference in the
related comment.
Note: this fix leverages the changes introduced by the previous
commit.
