When implementing .flash_update, drivers which do not support
per-component update are manually checking the component parameter to
verify that it is NULL. Without this check, the driver might accept an
update request with a component specified even though it will not honor
such a request.
Instead of having each driver check this, move the logic into
net/core/devlink.c, and use a new `supported_flash_update_params` field
in the devlink_ops. Drivers which will support per-component update must
now specify this by setting DEVLINK_SUPPORT_FLASH_UPDATE_COMPONENT in
the supported_flash_update_params in their devlink_ops.
This helps ensure that drivers do not forget to check for a NULL
component if they do not support per-component update. This also enables
a slightly better error message by enabling the core stack to set the
netlink bad attribute message to indicate precisely the unsupported
attribute in the message.
Going forward, any new additional parameter to flash update will require
a bit in the supported_flash_update_params bitfield.

This patch changes the bpf_sk_assign() to take
ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON such that they will work with the pointer
returned by the bpf_skc_to_*() helpers also.
The bpf_sk_lookup_assign() is taking ARG_PTR_TO_SOCKET_"OR_NULL". Meaning
it specifically takes a literal NULL. ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON
does not allow a literal NULL, so another ARG type is required
for this purpose and another follow-up patch can be used if
there is such need.

This patch changes the bpf_sk_storage_*() to take
ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON such that they will work with the pointer
returned by the bpf_skc_to_*() helpers also.
A micro benchmark has been done on a "cgroup_skb/egress" bpf program
which does a bpf_sk_storage_get(). It was driven by netperf doing
a 4096 connected UDP_STREAM test with 64bytes packet.
The stats from "kernel.bpf_stats_enabled" shows no meaningful difference.
The sk_storage_get_btf_proto, sk_storage_delete_btf_proto,
btf_sk_storage_get_proto, and btf_sk_storage_delete_proto are
no longer needed, so they are removed.

The previous patch allows the networking bpf prog to use the
bpf_skc_to_*() helpers to get a PTR_TO_BTF_ID socket pointer,
e.g. "struct tcp_sock *". It allows the bpf prog to read all the
fields of the tcp_sock.
This patch changes the bpf_sk_release() and bpf_sk_*cgroup_id()
to take ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON such that they will
work with the pointer returned by the bpf_skc_to_*() helpers
also. For example, the following will work:

Since PTR_TO_BTF_ID could be NULL, the helper taking
ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON has to check for NULL at runtime.
A btf_id of "struct sock" may not always mean a fullsock. Regardless
the helper's running context may get a non-fullsock or not,
considering fullsock check/handling is pretty cheap, it is better to
keep the same verifier expectation on helper that takes ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID*
will be able to handle the minisock situation. In the bpf_sk_*cgroup_id()
case, it will try to get a fullsock by using sk_to_full_sk() as its
skb variant bpf_sk"b"_*cgroup_id() has already been doing.
bpf_sk_release can already handle minisock, so nothing special has to
be done.

There is a constant need to add more fields into the bpf_tcp_sock
for the bpf programs running at tc, sock_ops...etc.
A current workaround could be to use bpf_probe_read_kernel(). However,
other than making another helper call for reading each field and missing
CO-RE, it is also not as intuitive to use as directly reading
"tp->lsndtime" for example. While already having perfmon cap to do
bpf_probe_read_kernel(), it will be much easier if the bpf prog can
directly read from the tcp_sock.
This patch tries to do that by using the existing casting-helpers
bpf_skc_to_*() whose func_proto returns a btf_id. For example, the
func_proto of bpf_skc_to_tcp_sock returns the btf_id of the
kernel "struct tcp_sock".
These helpers are also added to is_ptr_cast_function().
It ensures the returning reg (BPF_REF_0) will also carries the ref_obj_id.
That will keep the ref-tracking works properly.
The bpf_skc_to_* helpers are made available to most of the bpf prog
types in filter.c. The bpf_skc_to_* helpers will be limited by
perfmon cap.
This patch adds a ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON. The helper accepting
this arg can accept a btf-id-ptr (PTR_TO_BTF_ID + &btf_sock_ids[BTF_SOCK_TYPE_SOCK_COMMON])
or a legacy-ctx-convert-skc-ptr (PTR_TO_SOCK_COMMON). The bpf_skc_to_*()
helpers are changed to take ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON such that
they will accept pointer obtained from skb->sk.
Instead of specifying both arg_type and arg_btf_id in the same func_proto
which is how the current ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID does, the arg_btf_id of
the new ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON is specified in the
compatible_reg_types[] in verifier.c. The reason is the arg_btf_id is

The ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_ part gives a clear expectation that the helper is
expecting a PTR_TO_BTF_ID which could be NULL. This is the same
behavior as the existing helper taking ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID.
The _SOCK_COMMON part means the helper is also expecting the legacy
SOCK_COMMON pointer.
By excluding the _OR_NULL part, the bpf prog cannot call helper
with a literal NULL which doesn't make sense in most cases.
e.g. bpf_skc_to_tcp_sock(NULL) will be rejected. All PTR_TO_*_OR_NULL
reg has to do a NULL check first before passing into the helper or else
the bpf prog will be rejected. This behavior is nothing new and
consistent with the current expectation during bpf-prog-load.
[ ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON will be used to replace
ARG_PTR_TO_SOCK* of other existing helpers later such that
those existing helpers can take the PTR_TO_BTF_ID returned by
the bpf_skc_to_*() helpers.
The only special case is bpf_sk_lookup_assign() which can accept a
literal NULL ptr. It has to be handled specially in another follow
up patch if there is a need (e.g. by renaming ARG_PTR_TO_SOCKET_OR_NULL
to ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON_OR_NULL). ]
[ When converting the older helpers that take ARG_PTR_TO_SOCK* in
the later patch, if the kernel does not support BTF,
ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_SOCK_COMMON will behave like ARG_PTR_TO_SOCK_COMMON
because no reg->type could have PTR_TO_BTF_ID in this case.
It is not a concern for the newer-btf-only helper like the bpf_skc_to_*()
here though because these helpers must require BTF vmlinux to begin

Two minor conflicts:

If a bucket contains a lot of sockets, during bpf_iter traversing
a bucket, concurrent userspace bpf_map_update_elem() and
bpf program bpf_sk_storage_{get,delete}() may experience
some undesirable delays as they will compete with bpf_iter
for bucket lock.
Note that the number of buckets for bpf_sk_storage_map
is roughly the same as the number of cpus. So if there
are lots of sockets in the system, each bucket could
contain lots of sockets.
Different actual use cases may experience different delays.
Here, using selftest bpf_iter subtest bpf_sk_storage_map,
I hacked the kernel with ktime_get_mono_fast_ns()
to collect the time when a bucket was locked
during bpf_iter prog traversing that bucket. This way,
the maximum incurred delay was measured w.r.t. the
number of elements in a bucket.

The potential delays will be further increased if
we have even more elemnts in a bucket. Using rcu_read_lock()
is a reasonable compromise here. It may lose some precision, e.g.,
access stale sockets, but it will not hurt performance of
bpf program or user space application which also tries
to get/delete or update map elements.

Function prototypes using ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID currently use two ways to signal
which BTF IDs are acceptable. First, bpf_func_proto.btf_id is an array of
IDs, one for each argument. This array is only accessed up to the highest
numbered argument that uses ARG_PTR_TO_BTF_ID and may therefore be less than
five arguments long. It usually points at a BTF_ID_LIST. Second, check_btf_id
is a function pointer that is called by the verifier if present. It gets the
actual BTF ID of the register, and the argument number we're currently checking.
It turns out that the only user check_arg_btf_id ignores the argument, and is
simply used to check whether the BTF ID has a struct sock_common at it's start.
Replace both of these mechanisms with an explicit BTF ID for each argument
in a function proto. Thanks to btf_struct_ids_match this is very flexible:
check_arg_btf_id can be replaced by requiring struct sock_common.

Currently the backlog status in not exposed to user-space.
Since long backlogs (or simply not empty ones) can be a
source of noticeable latency, -RT deployments need some way
to inspect it.
Additionally, there isn't a direct match between 'softnet_stat'
lines and the related CPU - sd for offline CPUs are not dumped -
so this patch also includes the CPU id into such entry.

When budget is non-zero, skb_unref() has already handled the
NULL checking.
When budget is zero, the dev_consume_skb_any() has handled NULL
checking in __dev_kfree_skb_irq(), or dev_kfree_skb() which also
ultimately call skb_unref().
So remove the unnecessary checking in napi_consume_skb().

Add a timeout element to the DEVLINK_CMD_FLASH_UPDATE_STATUS
netlink message for use by a userland utility to show that
a particular firmware flash activity may take a long but
bounded time to finish. Also add a handy helper for drivers
to make use of the new timeout value.
UI usage hints:
- if non-zero, add timeout display to the end of the status line
[component] status_msg ( Xm Ys : Am Bs )
using the timeout value for Am Bs and updating the Xm Ys
every second
- if the timeout expires while awaiting the next update,
display something like
[component] status_msg ( timeout reached : Am Bs )
- if new status notify messages are received, remove
the timeout and start over

The combination of aca_free_rcu, introduced in commit 2384d02520
("net/ipv6: Add anycast addresses to a global hashtable"), and
fib6_info_destroy_rcu, introduced in commit 9b0a8da8c4 ("net/ipv6:
respect rcu grace period before freeing fib6_info"), can result in
an extra rcu grace period being needed when deleting an interface,
with the result that netdev_wait_allrefs ends up hitting the msleep(250),
which is considerably longer than the required grace period.
This can result in long delays when deleting a large number of interfaces,
and it can be observed with this script:

To support modifying the used_maps array, we use a mutex to protect
the use of the counter and the array. The mutex is initialized right
after the prog aux is allocated, and destroyed right before prog
aux is freed. This way we guarantee it's initialized for both cBPF
and eBPF.

BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACING. The traced PTR_TO_BTF_ID may be NULL.

A DSA master interface has upper network devices, each representing an
Ethernet switch port attached to it. Demultiplexing the source ports and
setting skb->dev accordingly is done through the catch-all ETH_P_XDSA
packet_type handler. Catch-all because DSA vendors have various header
implementations, which can be placed anywhere in the frame: before the
DMAC, before the EtherType, before the FCS, etc. So, the ETH_P_XDSA
handler acts like an rx_handler more than anything.
It is unlikely for the DSA master interface to have any other upper than
the DSA switch interfaces themselves. Only maybe a bridge upper*, but it
is very likely that the DSA master will have no 8021q upper. So
__netif_receive_skb_core() will try to untag the VLAN, despite the fact
that the DSA switch interface might have an 8021q upper. So the skb will
never reach that.
So far, this hasn't been a problem because most of the possible
placements of the DSA switch header mentioned in the first paragraph
will displace the VLAN header when the DSA master receives the frame, so
__netif_receive_skb_core() will not actually execute any VLAN-specific
code for it. This only becomes a problem when the DSA switch header does
not displace the VLAN header (for example with a tail tag).
What the patch does is it bypasses the untagging of the skb when there
is a DSA switch attached to this net device. So, DSA is the only
packet_type handler which requires seeing the VLAN header. Once skb->dev
will be changed, __netif_receive_skb_core() will be invoked again and
untagging, or delivery to an 8021q upper, will happen in the RX of the
DSA switch interface itself.
*see commit 9eb8eff0cf ("net: bridge: allow enslaving some DSA master
network devices". This is actually the reason why I prefer keeping DSA
as a packet_type handler of ETH_P_XDSA rather than converting to an
rx_handler. Currently the rx_handler code doesn't support chaining, and
this is a problem because a DSA master might be bridged.

flowi4_multipath_hash was added by the commit referenced below for
tunnels. Unfortunately, the patch did not initialize the new field
for several fast path lookups that do not initialize the entire flow
struct to 0. Fix those locations. Currently, flowi4_multipath_hash
is random garbage and affects the hash value computed by
fib_multipath_hash for multipath selection.

flush_all_backlogs() may cause deadlock on systems
running processes with FIFO scheduling policy.
The above is critical in -RT scenarios, where user-space
specifically ensure no network activity is scheduled on
the CPU running the mentioned FIFO process, but still get
stuck.
This commit tries to address the problem checking the
backlog status on the remote CPUs before scheduling the
flush operation. If the backlog is empty, we can skip it.

control twice, when EBPF sets the congestion control algorithm at
connection establishment we can simplify the code by simply
initializing the congestion control module at that time.

When a netdev is enslaved to a bridge, its parent identifier is queried.
This is done so that packets that were already forwarded in hardware
will not be forwarded again by the bridge device between netdevs
belonging to the same hardware instance.
The operation fails when the netdev is an upper of netdevs with
different parent identifiers.
Instead of failing the enslavement, have dev_get_port_parent_id() return
'-EOPNOTSUPP' which will signal the bridge to skip the query operation.
Other callers of the function are not affected by this change.

To RCUify napi->dev_list we need to replace list_del_init()
with list_del_rcu(). There is no _init() version for RCU for
obvious reasons. Up until now netif_napi_del() was idempotent
so to make sure it remains such add a bit which is set when
NAPI is listed, and cleared when it removed. Since we don't
expect multiple calls to netif_napi_add() to be correct,
add a warning on that side.
Now that napi_hash_add / napi_hash_del are only called by
napi_add / del we can actually steal its bit. We just need
to make sure hash node is initialized correctly.

We allow drivers to call napi_hash_del() before calling
netif_napi_del() to batch RCU grace periods. This makes
the API asymmetric and leaks internal implementation details.
Soon we will want the grace period to protect more than just
the NAPI hash table.
Restructure the API and have drivers call a new function -
__netif_napi_del() if they want to take care of RCU waits.
Note that only core was checking the return status from
napi_hash_del() so the new helper does not report if the
NAPI was actually deleted.
Some notes on driver oddness:
- veth observed the grace period before calling netif_napi_del()
but that should not matter
- myri10ge observed normal RCU flavor
- bnx2x and enic did not actually observe the grace period
(unless they did so implicitly)
- virtio_net and enic only unhashed Rx NAPIs
The last two points seem to indicate that the calls to
napi_hash_del() were a left over rather than an optimization.
Regardless, it's easy enough to correct them.
This patch may introduce extra synchronize_net() calls for
interfaces which set NAPI_STATE_NO_BUSY_POLL and depend on
free_netdev() to call netif_napi_del(). This seems inevitable
since we want to use RCU for netpoll dev->napi_list traversal,
and almost no drivers set IFF_DISABLE_NETPOLL.

Following change will add support for a corner case where
we may not have a netdev to pass to devlink_port_type_eth_set()
but we still want to set port type.
This is definitely a corner case, and drivers should not normally
pass NULL netdev - print a warning message when this happens.
Sadly for other port types (ib) switches don't have a device
reference, the way we always do for Ethernet, so we can't put
the warning in __devlink_port_type_set().

Add bpf_iter support for sockmap / sockhash, based on the bpf_sk_storage and
hashtable implementation. sockmap and sockhash share the same iteration
context: a pointer to an arbitrary key and a pointer to a socket. Both
pointers may be NULL, and so BPF has to perform a NULL check before accessing
them. Technically it's not possible for sockhash iteration to yield a NULL
socket, but we ignore this to be able to use a single iteration point.
Iteration will visit all keys that remain unmodified during the lifetime of
the iterator. It may or may not visit newly added ones.
Switch from using rcu_dereference_raw to plain rcu_dereference, so we gain
another guard rail if CONFIG_PROVE_RCU is enabled.

The lookup paths for sockmap and sockhash currently include a check
that returns NULL if the socket we just found is not a full socket.
However, this check is not necessary. On insertion we ensure that
we have a full socket (caveat around sock_ops), so request sockets
are not a problem. Time-wait sockets are allocated separate from
the original socket and then fed into the hashdance. They don't
affect the sockets already stored in the sockmap.

A devlink port may be for a controller consist of PCI device.
A devlink instance holds ports of two types of controllers.
(1) controller discovered on same system where eswitch resides
This is the case where PCI PF/VF of a controller and devlink eswitch
instance both are located on a single system.
(2) controller located on external host system.
This is the case where a controller is located in one system and its
devlink eswitch ports are located in a different system.
When a devlink eswitch instance serves the devlink ports of both
controllers together, PCI PF/VF numbers may overlap.
Due to this a unique phys_port_name cannot be constructed.
For example in below such system controller-0 and controller-1, each has
PCI PF pf0 whose eswitch ports can be present in controller-0.
These results in phys_port_name as "pf0" for both.
Similar problem exists for VFs and upcoming Sub functions.

A devlink eswitch port may represent PCI PF/VF ports of a controller.
A controller either located on same system or it can be an external
controller located in host where such NIC is plugged in.
Add the ability for driver to specify if a port is for external
controller.
Use such flag in the mlx5_core driver.
An example of an external controller having VF1 of PF0 belong to
controller 1.

The xlated sequence was incorrectly clobbering r2 with pointer
value of r6 ...

... and hence call to the load helper never succeeded given the

affected after the insn.

The sysctl that was added earlier by commit 79134e6ce2 ("net: do
not create fallback tunnels for non-default namespaces") to create
fall-back only in root-ns. This patch enhances that behavior to provide
option not to create fallback tunnels in root-ns as well. Since modules
that create fallback tunnels could be built-in and setting the sysctl
value after booting is pointless, so added a kernel cmdline options to
change this default. The default setting is preseved for backward
compatibility. The kernel command line option of fb_tunnels=initns will
set the sysctl value to 1 and will create fallback tunnels only in initns
while kernel cmdline fb_tunnels=none will set the sysctl value to 2 and
fallback tunnels are skipped in every netns.

Some properties of the inner map is used in the verification time.
When an inner map is inserted to an outer map at runtime,
bpf_map_meta_equal() is currently used to ensure those properties
of the inserting inner map stays the same as the verification
time.
In particular, the current bpf_map_meta_equal() checks max_entries which
turns out to be too restrictive for most of the maps which do not use
max_entries during the verification time. It limits the use case that
wants to replace a smaller inner map with a larger inner map. There are
some maps do use max_entries during verification though. For example,
the map_gen_lookup in array_map_ops uses the max_entries to generate
the inline lookup code.
To accommodate differences between maps, the map_meta_equal is added
to bpf_map_ops. Each map-type can decide what to check when its
map is used as an inner map during runtime.
Also, some map types cannot be used as an inner map and they are
currently black listed in bpf_map_meta_alloc() in map_in_map.c.
It is not unusual that the new map types may not aware that such
blacklist exists. This patch enforces an explicit opt-in
and only allows a map to be used as an inner map if it has
implemented the map_meta_equal ops. It is based on the
discussion in [1].
All maps that support inner map has its map_meta_equal points
to bpf_map_meta_equal in this patch. A later patch will
relax the max_entries check for most maps. bpf_types.h
counts 28 map types. This patch adds 23 ".map_meta_equal"
by using coccinelle. -5 for

napi_disable() makes sure to set the NAPI_STATE_NPSVC bit to prevent
netpoll from accessing rings before init is complete. However, the
same is not done for fresh napi instances in netif_napi_add(),
even though we expect NAPI instances to be added as disabled.
This causes crashes during driver reconfiguration (enabling XDP,
changing the channel count) - if there is any printk() after
netif_napi_add() but before napi_enable().
To ensure memory ordering is correct we need to use RCU accessors.

Adds support for both bpf_{sk, inode}_storage_{get, delete} to be used
in LSM programs. These helpers are not used for tracing programs
(currently) as their usage is tied to the life-cycle of the object and
should only be used where the owning object won't be freed (when the
owning object is passed as an argument to the LSM hook). Thus, they
are safer to use in LSM hooks than tracing. Usage of local storage in
tracing programs will probably follow a per function based whitelist
approach.
Since the UAPI helper signature for bpf_sk_storage expect a bpf_sock,
it, leads to a compilation warning for LSM programs, it's also updated
to accept a void * pointer instead.

Refactor the functionality in bpf_sk_storage.c so that concept of
storage linked to kernel objects can be extended to other objects like
inode, task_struct etc.
Each new local storage will still be a separate map and provide its own
set of helpers. This allows for future object specific extensions and
still share a lot of the underlying implementation.

This patch is adapted from Eric's patch in an earlier discussion [1].
The TCP_SAVE_SYN currently only stores the network header and
tcp header. This patch allows it to optionally store
the mac header also if the setsockopt's optval is 2.
It requires one more bit for the "save_syn" bit field in tcp_sock.
This patch achieves this by moving the syn_smc bit next to the is_mptcp.
The syn_smc is currently used with the TCP experimental option. Since
syn_smc is only used when CONFIG_SMC is enabled, this patch also puts
the "IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_SMC)" around it like the is_mptcp did
with "IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_MPTCP)".
The mac_hdrlen is also stored in the "struct saved_syn"
to allow a quick offset from the bpf prog if it chooses to start
getting from the network header or the tcp header.

pieces into the bpf_skops_*() functions introduced
in the earlier patches. ]
The earlier effort in BPF-TCP-CC allows the TCP Congestion Control
algorithm to be written in BPF. It opens up opportunities to allow
a faster turnaround time in testing/releasing new congestion control
ideas to production environment.
The same flexibility can be extended to writing TCP header option.
It is not uncommon that people want to test new TCP header option
to improve the TCP performance. Another use case is for data-center
that has a more controlled environment and has more flexibility in
putting header options for internal only use.
For example, we want to test the idea in putting maximum delay
ACK in TCP header option which is similar to a draft RFC proposal [1].
This patch introduces the necessary BPF API and use them in the
TCP stack to allow BPF_PROG_TYPE_SOCK_OPS program to parse
and write TCP header options. It currently supports most of
the TCP packet except RST.
Supported TCP header option:
───────────────────────────
This patch allows the bpf-prog to write any option kind.
Different bpf-progs can write its own option by calling the new helper
bpf_store_hdr_opt(). The helper will ensure there is no duplicated
option in the header.
By allowing bpf-prog to write any option kind, this gives a lot of
flexibility to the bpf-prog. Different bpf-prog can write its
own option kind. It could also allow the bpf-prog to support a
recently standardized option on an older kernel.
Sockops Callback Flags:
──────────────────────
The bpf program will only be called to parse/write tcp header option
if the following newly added callback flags are enabled
in tp->bpf_sock_ops_cb_flags:
BPF_SOCK_OPS_PARSE_UNKNOWN_HDR_OPT_CB_FLAG
BPF_SOCK_OPS_PARSE_ALL_HDR_OPT_CB_FLAG
BPF_SOCK_OPS_WRITE_HDR_OPT_CB_FLAG
A few words on the PARSE CB flags. When the above PARSE CB flags are
turned on, the bpf-prog will be called on packets received
at a sk that has at least reached the ESTABLISHED state.
The parsing of the SYN-SYNACK-ACK will be discussed in the
"3 Way HandShake" section.
The default is off for all of the above new CB flags, i.e. the bpf prog
will not be called to parse or write bpf hdr option. There are
details comment on these new cb flags in the UAPI bpf.h.
sock_ops->skb_data and bpf_load_hdr_opt()
─────────────────────────────────────────
sock_ops->skb_data and sock_ops->skb_data_end covers the whole
TCP header and its options. They are read only.
The new bpf_load_hdr_opt() helps to read a particular option "kind"
from the skb_data.
Please refer to the comment in UAPI bpf.h. It has details
on what skb_data contains under different sock_ops->op.
3 Way HandShake
───────────────
The bpf-prog can learn if it is sending SYN or SYNACK by reading the
sock_ops->skb_tcp_flags.
* Passive side
When writing SYNACK (i.e. sock_ops->op == BPF_SOCK_OPS_WRITE_HDR_OPT_CB),
the received SYN skb will be available to the bpf prog. The bpf prog can
use the SYN skb (which may carry the header option sent from the remote bpf
prog) to decide what bpf header option should be written to the outgoing
SYNACK skb. The SYN packet can be obtained by getsockopt(TCP_BPF_SYN*).
More on this later. Also, the bpf prog can learn if it is in syncookie
mode (by checking sock_ops->args[0] == BPF_WRITE_HDR_TCP_SYNACK_COOKIE).
The bpf prog can store the received SYN pkt by using the existing
bpf_setsockopt(TCP_SAVE_SYN). The example in a later patch does it.
[ Note that the fullsock here is a listen sk, bpf_sk_storage
is not very useful here since the listen sk will be shared
by many concurrent connection requests.
Extending bpf_sk_storage support to request_sock will add weight
to the minisock and it is not necessary better than storing the
whole ~100 bytes SYN pkt. ]
When the connection is established, the bpf prog will be called
in the existing PASSIVE_ESTABLISHED_CB callback. At that time,
the bpf prog can get the header option from the saved syn and
then apply the needed operation to the newly established socket.
The later patch will use the max delay ack specified in the SYN
header and set the RTO of this newly established connection
as an example.
The received ACK (that concludes the 3WHS) will also be available to
the bpf prog during PASSIVE_ESTABLISHED_CB through the sock_ops->skb_data.
It could be useful in syncookie scenario. More on this later.
There is an existing getsockopt "TCP_SAVED_SYN" to return the whole
saved syn pkt which includes the IP[46] header and the TCP header.
A few "TCP_BPF_SYN*" getsockopt has been added to allow specifying where to
start getting from, e.g. starting from TCP header, or from IP[46] header.
The new getsockopt(TCP_BPF_SYN*) will also know where it can get
the SYN's packet from:
- (a) the just received syn (available when the bpf prog is writing SYNACK)
and it is the only way to get SYN during syncookie mode.
or
- (b) the saved syn (available in PASSIVE_ESTABLISHED_CB and also other
existing CB).
The bpf prog does not need to know where the SYN pkt is coming from.
The getsockopt(TCP_BPF_SYN*) will hide this details.
Similarly, a flags "BPF_LOAD_HDR_OPT_TCP_SYN" is also added to
bpf_load_hdr_opt() to read a particular header option from the SYN packet.
* Fastopen
Fastopen should work the same as the regular non fastopen case.
This is a test in a later patch.
* Syncookie
For syncookie, the later example patch asks the active
side's bpf prog to resend the header options in ACK. The server
can use bpf_load_hdr_opt() to look at the options in this
received ACK during PASSIVE_ESTABLISHED_CB.
* Active side
The bpf prog will get a chance to write the bpf header option
in the SYN packet during WRITE_HDR_OPT_CB. The received SYNACK
pkt will also be available to the bpf prog during the existing
ACTIVE_ESTABLISHED_CB callback through the sock_ops->skb_data
and bpf_load_hdr_opt().
* Turn off header CB flags after 3WHS
If the bpf prog does not need to write/parse header options
beyond the 3WHS, the bpf prog can clear the bpf_sock_ops_cb_flags
to avoid being called for header options.
Or the bpf-prog can select to leave the UNKNOWN_HDR_OPT_CB_FLAG on
so that the kernel will only call it when there is option that
the kernel cannot handle.

A later patch needs to add a few pointers and a few u8 to
sock_ops_kern. Hence, this patch saves some spaces by moving
some of the existing members from u32 to u8 so that the later
patch can still fit everything in a cacheline.

This patch adds bpf_setsockopt(TCP_BPF_RTO_MIN) to allow bpf prog
to set the min rto of a connection. It could be used together
with the earlier patch which has added bpf_setsockopt(TCP_BPF_DELACK_MAX).
A later selftest patch will communicate the max delay ack in a
bpf tcp header option and then the receiving side can use
bpf_setsockopt(TCP_BPF_RTO_MIN) to set a shorter rto.

This change is mostly from an internal patch and adapts it from sysctl
config to the bpf_setsockopt setup.
The bpf_prog can set the max delay ack by using
bpf_setsockopt(TCP_BPF_DELACK_MAX). This max delay ack can be communicated
to its peer through bpf header option. The receiving peer can then use
this max delay ack and set a potentially lower rto by using
bpf_setsockopt(TCP_BPF_RTO_MIN) which will be introduced
in the next patch.
Another later selftest patch will also use it like the above to show
how to write and parse bpf tcp header option.

The TCP_SAVE_SYN has both the network header and tcp header.
The total length of the saved syn packet is currently stored in
the first 4 bytes (u32) of an array and the actual packet data is
stored after that.
A later patch will add a bpf helper that allows to get the tcp header
alone from the saved syn without the network header. It will be more
convenient to have a direct offset to a specific header instead of
re-parsing it. This requires to separately store the network hdrlen.
The total header length (i.e. network + tcp) is still needed for the
current usage in getsockopt. Although this total length can be obtained
by looking into the tcphdr and then get the (th->doff << 2), this patch
chooses to directly store the tcp hdrlen in the second four bytes of
this newly created "struct saved_syn". By using a new struct, it can
give a readable name to each individual header length.

Allow calling bpf_map_update_elem on sockmap and sockhash from a BPF
context. The synchronization required for this is a bit fiddly: we
need to prevent the socket from changing its state while we add it
to the sockmap, since we rely on getting a callback via
sk_prot->unhash. However, we can't just lock_sock like in
sock_map_sk_acquire because that might sleep. So instead we disable
softirq processing and use bh_lock_sock to prevent further
modification.
Yet, this is still not enough. BPF can be called in contexts where
the current CPU might have locked a socket. If the BPF can get
a hold of such a socket, inserting it into a sockmap would lead to
a deadlock. One straight forward example are sock_ops programs that
have ctx->sk, but the same problem exists for kprobes, etc.
We deal with this by allowing sockmap updates only from known safe
contexts. Improper usage is rejected by the verifier.
I've audited the enabled contexts to make sure they can't run in
a locked context. It's possible that CGROUP_SKB and others are
safe as well, but the auditing here is much more difficult. In
any case, we can extend the safe contexts when the need arises.

Initializing psock->sk_proto and other saved callbacks is only
done in sk_psock_update_proto, after sk_psock_init has returned.
The logic for this is difficult to follow, and needlessly complex.
Instead, initialize psock->sk_proto whenever we allocate a new
psock. Additionally, assert the following invariants:
* The SK has no ULP: ULP does it's own finagling of sk->sk_prot
* sk_user_data is unused: we need it to store sk_psock
Protect our access to sk_user_data with sk_callback_lock, which
is what other users like reuseport arrays, etc. do.
The result is that an sk_psock is always fully initialized, and
that psock->sk_proto is always the "original" struct proto.
The latter allows us to use psock->sk_proto when initializing
IPv6 TCP / UDP callbacks for sockmap.

Currently, tcp sendmsg(MSG_ZEROCOPY) is building skbs with order-0 fragments.
Compared to standard sendmsg(), these skbs usually contain up to 16 fragments
on arches with 4KB page sizes, instead of two.
This adds considerable costs on various ndo_start_xmit() handlers,
especially when IOMMU is in the picture.
As high performance applications are often using huge pages,
we can try to combine adjacent pages belonging to same
compound page.
Tested on AMD Rome platform, with IOMMU, nominal single TCP flow speed
is roughly doubled (~55Gbit -> ~100Gbit), when user application
is using hugepages.
For reference, nominal single TCP flow speed on this platform
without MSG_ZEROCOPY is ~65Gbit.

inadvertently changed which XDP mode is assumed when no mode flags are
specified explicitly. Previously, driver mode was preferred, if driver
supported it. If not, generic SKB mode was chosen. That commit changed default
to SKB mode always. This patch fixes the issue and restores the original
logic.

It's always 0. Note that we theoretically could use ~0U as well -
result will be the same modulo 0xffff, _if_ the damn thing did the
right thing for any value of initial sum; later we'll make use of
that when convenient.
However, unlike csum_and_copy_..._user(), there are instances that
did not work for arbitrary initial sums; c6x is one such.

Reason: A lot of the ptp drivers - which implement hardware time stamping - need
specific fields such as the sequence id from the ptp v2 header. Currently all
drivers implement that themselves.
Introduce a generic function to retrieve a pointer to the start of the ptp v2
header.

Switch over network namespaces to use the newly introduced common lifetime
counter.
Network namespaces have an additional counter named "passive". This counter
does not guarantee that the network namespace is not already de-initialized
and so isn't concerned with the actual lifetime of the network namespace;
only the "count" counter is. So the latter is moved into struct ns_common.
Currently every namespace type has its own lifetime counter which is stored
in the specific namespace struct. The lifetime counters are used
identically for all namespaces types. Namespaces may of course have
additional unrelated counters and these are not altered.
This introduces a common lifetime counter into struct ns_common. The
ns_common struct encompasses information that all namespaces share. That
should include the lifetime counter since its common for all of them.
It also allows us to unify the type of the counters across all namespaces.
Most of them use refcount_t but one uses atomic_t and at least one uses
kref. Especially the last one doesn't make much sense since it's just a
wrapper around refcount_t since 2016 and actually complicates cleanup
operations by having to use container_of() to cast the correct namespace
struct out of struct ns_common.
Having the lifetime counter for the namespaces in one place reduces
maintenance cost. Not just because after switching all namespaces over we
will have removed more code than we added but also because the logic is
more easily understandable and we indicate to the user that the basic
lifetime requirements for all namespaces are currently identical.

It is possible to trigger this WARN_ON from user space by triggering a
devlink snapshot with an ID which already exists. We don't need both
-EEXISTS being reported and spamming the kernel log.

We may access the two bytes after vlan_hdr in vlan_set_encap_proto(). So
we should pull VLAN_HLEN + sizeof(unsigned short) in skb_vlan_untag() or
we may access the wrong data.

When an XDP program changes the ethernet header protocol field,
eth_type_trans is used to recalculate skb->protocol. In order for
eth_type_trans to work correctly, the ethernet header must actually be
part of the skb data segment, so the code first pushes that onto the
head of the skb. However, it subsequently forgets to pull it back off,
making the behavior of the passed-on packet inconsistent between the
protocol modifying case and the static protocol case. This patch fixes
the issue by simply pulling the ethernet header back off of the skb
head.

src_reg = dst_reg when reading the sk field of a sock_ops struct we
generate xlated code,

This stomps on the r9 reg to do the sk_fullsock check and then when
reading the skops->sk field instead of the sk pointer we get the
sk_fullsock. To fix use similar pattern noted in the previous fix
and use the temp field to save/restore a register used to do
sk_fullsock check.

This adds a new macro SOCK_OPS_GET_SK it is almost possible to merge
this with SOCK_OPS_GET_FIELD, but I found the extra branch logic a
bit more confusing than just adding a new macro despite a bit of
duplicating code.

Oh no, we read 'r1 +28' into r1, this is skops->fullsock and then in
line 2 we read the 'r1 +0' as a pointer. Now jumping back to our spat,

The 0x01 makes sense because that is exactly the fullsock value. And
its not a valid dereference so we splat.
To fix we need to guard the case when a program is doing a sock_ops field
access with src_reg == dst_reg. This is already handled in the load case
where the ctx_access handler uses a tmp register being careful to
store the old value and restore it. To fix the get case test if
src_reg == dst_reg and in this case do the is_fullsock test in the
temporary register. Remembering to restore the temporary register before
writing to either dst_reg or src_reg to avoid smashing the pointer into
the struct holding the tmp variable.
Adding this inline code to test_tcpbpf_kern will now be generated
correctly from,

If we failed to assign proto idx, we free the twsk_slab_name but forget to
free the twsk_slab. Add a helper function tw_prot_cleanup() to free these

A symmetric naming is only helpful if it implies symmetries in use.
Otherwise it's actively misleading.
In "kzalloc()", the z is meaningful and an important part of what the
caller wants.
In "kzfree()", the z is actively detrimental, because maybe in the
future we really _might_ want to use that "memfill(0xdeadbeef)" or
something. The "zero" part of the interface isn't even _relevant_.
The main reason that kzfree() exists is to clear sensitive information
that should not be leaked to other future users of the same memory
objects.
Rename kzfree() to kfree_sensitive() to follow the example of the recently
added kvfree_sensitive() and make the intention of the API more explicit.
In addition, memzero_explicit() is used to clear the memory to make sure
that it won't get optimized away by the compiler.
The renaming is done by using the command sequence:

Commit a5cbe05a66 ("bpf: Implement bpf iterator for
map elements") added bpf iterator support for
map elements. The map element bpf iterator requires
info to identify a particular map. In the above
commit, the attr->link_create.target_fd is used
to carry map_fd and an enum bpf_iter_link_info
is added to uapi to specify the target_fd actually
representing a map_fd:

This is an extensible approach as we can grow

This patch changed the uapi to have fields

for additional iter_info for link_create.

Add LINK_DETACH command to force-detach bpf_link without destroying it. It has
the same behavior as auto-detaching of bpf_link due to cgroup dying for
bpf_cgroup_link or net_device being destroyed for bpf_xdp_link. In such case,
bpf_link is still a valid kernel object, but is defuncts and doesn't hold BPF
program attached to corresponding BPF hook. This functionality allows users
with enough access rights to manually force-detach attached bpf_link without
killing respective owner process.
This patch implements LINK_DETACH for cgroup, xdp, and netns links, mostly
re-using existing link release handling code.

netdev protodown is a mechanism that allows protocols to
hold an interface down. It was initially introduced in
the kernel to hold links down by a multihoming protocol.
There was also an attempt to introduce protodown
reason at the time but was rejected. protodown and protodown reason
is supported by almost every switching and routing platform.
It was ok for a while to live without a protodown reason.
But, its become more critical now given more than
one protocol may need to keep a link down on a system
at the same time. eg: vrrp peer node, port security,
multihoming protocol. Its common for Network operators and
protocol developers to look for such a reason on a networking
box (Its also known as errDisable by most networking operators)
This patch adds support for link protodown reason
attribute. There are two ways to maintain protodown
reasons.
(a) enumerate every possible reason code in kernel
- A protocol developer has to make a request and
have that appear in a certain kernel version
(b) provide the bits in the kernel, and allow user-space
(sysadmin or NOS distributions) to manage the bit-to-reasonname
map.
- This makes extending reason codes easier (kind of like
the iproute2 table to vrf-name map /etc/iproute2/rt_tables.d/)
This patch takes approach (b).
a few things about the patch:
- It treats the protodown reason bits as counter to indicate
active protodown users
- Since protodown attribute is already an exposed UAPI,
the reason is not enforced on a protodown set. Its a no-op
if not used.
the patch follows the below algorithm:
- presence of reason bits set indicates protodown
is in use
- user can set protodown and protodown reason in a
single or multiple setlink operations
- setlink operation to clear protodown, will return -EBUSY
if there are active protodown reason bits
- reason is not included in link dumps if not used

This change adds TCP_NLA_EDT to SCM_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS that reports
the earliest departure time(EDT) of the timestamped skb. By tracking EDT
values of the skb from different timestamps, we can observe when and how
much the value changed. This allows to measure the precise delay
injected on the sender host e.g. by a bpf-base throttler.

Number of .dumpit functions try to ignore -EOPNOTSUPP errors.
Recent change missed that, and started reporting all errors
but -EMSGSIZE back from dumps. This leads to situation like
this:
$ devlink dev info
devlink answers: Operation not supported
Dump should not report an error just because the last device
to be queried could not provide an answer.
To fix this and avoid similar confusion make sure we clear
err properly, and not leave it set to an error if we don't
terminate the iteration.

This lets us use socket storage from the following hooks:
* BPF_CGROUP_INET_SOCK_CREATE
* BPF_CGROUP_INET_SOCK_RELEASE
* BPF_CGROUP_INET4_POST_BIND
* BPF_CGROUP_INET6_POST_BIND
Using existing 'bpf_sk_storage_get_proto' doesn't work because
second argument is ARG_PTR_TO_SOCKET. Even though
BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SOCK hooks operate on 'struct bpf_sock',
the verifier still considers it as a PTR_TO_CTX.
That's why I'm adding another 'bpf_sk_storage_get_cg_sock_proto'
definition strictly for BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SOCK which accepts
ARG_PTR_TO_CTX which is really 'struct sock' for this program type.

Cited commit mistakenly removed the trap group for externally routed
packets (e.g., via the management interface) and grouped locally routed
and externally routed packet traps under the same group, thereby
subjecting them to the same policer.
This can result in problems, for example, when FRR is restarted and
suddenly all transient traffic is trapped to the CPU because of a
default route through the management interface. Locally routed packets
required to re-establish a BGP connection will never reach the CPU and
the routing tables will not be re-populated.
Fix this by using a different trap group for externally routed packets.

Now that BPF program/link management is centralized in generic net_device
code, kernel code never queries program id from drivers, so
XDP_QUERY_PROG/XDP_QUERY_PROG_HW commands are unnecessary.
This patch removes all the implementations of those commands in kernel, along
the xdp_attachment_query().
This patch was compile-tested on allyesconfig.

Add bpf_link-based API (bpf_xdp_link) to attach BPF XDP program through
BPF_LINK_CREATE command.
bpf_xdp_link is mutually exclusive with direct BPF program attachment,
previous BPF program should be detached prior to attempting to create a new
bpf_xdp_link attachment (for a given XDP mode). Once BPF link is attached, it
can't be replaced by other BPF program attachment or link attachment. It will
be detached only when the last BPF link FD is closed.
bpf_xdp_link will be auto-detached when net_device is shutdown, similarly to
how other BPF links behave (cgroup, flow_dissector). At that point bpf_link
will become defunct, but won't be destroyed until last FD is closed.

Further refactor XDP attachment code. dev_change_xdp_fd() is split into two
parts: getting bpf_progs from FDs and attachment logic, working with
bpf_progs. This makes attachment logic a bit more straightforward and
prepares code for bpf_xdp_link inclusion, which will share the common logic.

Instead of delegating to drivers, maintain information about which BPF
programs are attached in which XDP modes (generic/skb, driver, or hardware)
locally in net_device. This effectively obsoletes XDP_QUERY_PROG command.
Such re-organization simplifies existing code already. But it also allows to
further add bpf_link-based XDP attachments without drivers having to know
about any of this at all, which seems like a good setup.
XDP_SETUP_PROG/XDP_SETUP_PROG_HW are just low-level commands to driver to
install/uninstall active BPF program. All the higher-level concerns about
prog/link interaction will be contained within generic driver-agnostic logic.
All the XDP_QUERY_PROG calls to driver in dev_xdp_uninstall() were removed.
It's not clear for me why dev_xdp_uninstall() were passing previous prog_flags
when resetting installed programs. That seems unnecessary, plus most drivers
don't populate prog_flags anyways. Having XDP_SETUP_PROG vs XDP_SETUP_PROG_HW
should be enough of an indicator of what is required of driver to correctly
reset active BPF program. dev_xdp_uninstall() is also generalized as an
iteration over all three supported mode.

The bpf iterator for bpf sock local storage map
is implemented. User space interacts with sock
local storage map with fd as a key and storage value.
In kernel, passing fd to the bpf program does not
really make sense. In this case, the sock itself is
passed to bpf program.

The UDP reuseport conflict was a little bit tricky.
The net-next code, via bpf-next, extracted the reuseport handling
into a helper so that the BPF sk lookup code could invoke it.
At the same time, the logic for reuseport handling of unconnected
sockets changed via commit efc6b6f6c3
which changed the logic to carry on the reuseport result into the
rest of the lookup loop if we do not return immediately.
This requires moving the reuseport_has_conns() logic into the callers.
While we are here, get rid of inline directives as they do not belong
in foo.c files.
The other changes were cases of more straightforward overlapping
modifications.

I noticed that touching linux/rhashtable.h causes lib/vsprintf.c to
be rebuilt. This dependency came through a bogus inclusion in the
file net/flow_offload.h. This patch moves it to the right place.
This patch also removes a lingering rhashtable inclusion in cls_api
created by the same commit.

The purpose of this override is to give the user an indication of what
the number of the CPU port is (in DSA, the CPU port is a hardware
implementation detail and not a network interface capable of traffic).
However, it has always failed (by design) at providing this information
to the user in a reliable fashion.
Prior to commit 3369afba1e ("net: Call into DSA netdevice_ops
wrappers"), the behavior was to only override this callback if it was
not provided by the DSA master.
That was its first failure: if the DSA master itself was a DSA port or a
switchdev, then the user would not see the number of the CPU port in
/sys/class/net/eth0/phys_port_name, but the number of the DSA master
port within its respective physical switch.
But that was actually ok in a way. The commit mentioned above changed
that behavior, and now overrides the master's ndo_get_phys_port_name
unconditionally. That comes with problems of its own, which are worse in
a way.
The idea is that it's typical for switchdev users to have udev rules for
consistent interface naming. These are based, among other things, on
the phys_port_name attribute. If we let the DSA switch at the bottom
to start randomly overriding ndo_get_phys_port_name with its own CPU
port, we basically lose any predictability in interface naming, or even
uniqueness, for that matter.
So, there are reasons to let DSA override the master's callback (to
provide a consistent interface, a number which has a clear meaning and
must not be interpreted according to context), and there are reasons to
not let DSA override it (it breaks udev matching for the DSA master).
But, there is an alternative method for users to retrieve the number of
the CPU port of each DSA switch in the system:

So remove this duplicated, unreliable and troublesome method. From this
patch on, the phys_port_name attribute of the DSA master will only
contain information about itself (if at all). If the users need reliable
information about the CPU port they're probably using devlink anyway.

Currently devlink instance is searched on all doit() operations.
But it is optionally stored into user_ptr[0]. This requires
rediscovering devlink again doing post_doit().
Few devlink commands related to port shared buffers needs 3 pointers
(devlink, devlink_port, and devlink_sb) while executing doit commands.
Though devlink pointer can be derived from the devlink_port during
post_doit() operation when doit() callback has acquired devlink
instance lock, relying on such scheme to access devlik pointer makes
code very fragile.
Hence, to avoid ambiguity in post_doit() and to avoid searching
devlink instance again, simplify code by always storing devlink
instance in user_ptr[0] and derive devlink_sb pointer in their
respective callback routines.

If an unconnected socket in a UDP reuseport group connect()s, has_conns is
set to 1. Then, when a packet is received, udp[46]_lib_lookup2() scans all
sockets in udp_hslot looking for the connected socket with the highest
score.
However, when the number of sockets bound to the port exceeds max_socks,
reuseport_grow() resets has_conns to 0. It can cause udp[46]_lib_lookup2()
to return without scanning all sockets, resulting in that packets sent to
connected sockets may be distributed to unconnected sockets.
Therefore, reuseport_grow() should copy has_conns.

Currently, socket types (struct tcp_sock, udp_sock, etc.)
used by bpf_skc_to_*() helpers are computed when vmlinux_btf
is first built in the kernel.
Commit 5a2798ab32
("bpf: Add BTF_ID_LIST/BTF_ID/BTF_ID_UNUSED macros")
implemented a mechanism to compute btf_ids at kernel build
time which can simplify kernel implementation and reduce
runtime overhead by removing in-kernel btf_id calculation.
This patch did exactly this, removing in-kernel btf_id
computation and utilizing build-time btf_id computation.
If CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF is not defined, BTF_ID_LIST will
define an array with size of 5, which is not enough for
btf_sock_ids. So define its own static array if
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF is not defined.

Run a BPF program before looking up a listening socket on the receive path.
Program selects a listening socket to yield as result of socket lookup by
calling bpf_sk_assign() helper and returning SK_PASS code. Program can
revert its decision by assigning a NULL socket with bpf_sk_assign().
Alternatively, BPF program can also fail the lookup by returning with
SK_DROP, or let the lookup continue as usual with SK_PASS on return, when
no socket has been selected with bpf_sk_assign().
This lets the user match packets with listening sockets freely at the last
possible point on the receive path, where we know that packets are destined
for local delivery after undergoing policing, filtering, and routing.
With BPF code selecting the socket, directing packets destined to an IP
range or to a port range to a single socket becomes possible.
In case multiple programs are attached, they are run in series in the order
in which they were attached. The end result is determined from return codes
of all the programs according to following rules:
1. If any program returned SK_PASS and selected a valid socket, the socket
is used as result of socket lookup.
2. If more than one program returned SK_PASS and selected a socket,
last selection takes effect.
3. If any program returned SK_DROP, and no program returned SK_PASS and
selected a socket, socket lookup fails with -ECONNREFUSED.
4. If all programs returned SK_PASS and none of them selected a socket,
socket lookup continues to htable-based lookup.

Add a new program type BPF_PROG_TYPE_SK_LOOKUP with a dedicated attach type
BPF_SK_LOOKUP. The new program kind is to be invoked by the transport layer
when looking up a listening socket for a new connection request for
connection oriented protocols, or when looking up an unconnected socket for
a packet for connection-less protocols.
When called, SK_LOOKUP BPF program can select a socket that will receive
the packet. This serves as a mechanism to overcome the limits of what
bind() API allows to express. Two use-cases driving this work are:
(1) steer packets destined to an IP range, on fixed port to a socket
192.0.2.0/24, port 80 -> NGINX socket
(2) steer packets destined to an IP address, on any port to a socket
198.51.100.1, any port -> L7 proxy socket
In its run-time context program receives information about the packet that
triggered the socket lookup. Namely IP version, L4 protocol identifier, and
address 4-tuple. Context can be further extended to include ingress
interface identifier.
To select a socket BPF program fetches it from a map holding socket
references, like SOCKMAP or SOCKHASH, and calls bpf_sk_assign(ctx, sk, ...)
helper to record the selection. Transport layer then uses the selected
socket as a result of socket lookup.
In its basic form, SK_LOOKUP acts as a filter and hence must return either
SK_PASS or SK_DROP. If the program returns with SK_PASS, transport should
look for a socket to receive the packet, or use the one selected by the
program if available, while SK_DROP informs the transport layer that the
lookup should fail.
This patch only enables the user to attach an SK_LOOKUP program to a
network namespace. Subsequent patches hook it up to run on local delivery
path in ipv4 and ipv6 stacks.

Introduce the capability to attach an eBPF program to cpumap entries.
The idea behind this feature is to add the possibility to define on
which CPU run the eBPF program if the underlying hw does not support
RSS. Current supported verdicts are XDP_DROP and XDP_PASS.
This patch has been tested on Marvell ESPRESSObin using xdp_redirect_cpu
sample available in the kernel tree to identify possible performance
regressions. Results show there are no observable differences in
packet-per-second:

Previously, shared blocks were only relevant for the pseudo-qdiscs ingress
and clsact. Recently, a qevent facility was introduced, which allows to
bind blocks to well-defined slots of a qdisc instance. RED in particular
got two qevents: early_drop and mark. Drivers that wish to offload these
blocks will be sent the usual notification, and need to know which qdisc it
is related to.
To that end, extend flow_block_offload with a "sch" pointer, and initialize
as appropriate. This prompts changes in the indirect block facility, which
now tracks the scheduler in addition to the netdevice. Update signatures of
several functions similarly.

For both pidfd and seccomp, the __user pointer is not used. Update
__receive_fd() to make writing to ufd optional via a NULL check. However,
for the receive_fd_user() wrapper, ufd is NULL checked so an -EFAULT
can be returned to avoid changing the SCM_RIGHTS interface behavior. Add
new wrapper receive_fd() for pidfd and seccomp that does not use the ufd
argument. For the new helper, the allocated fd needs to be returned on
success. Update the existing callers to handle it.

In preparation for users of the "install a received file" logic outside
of net/ (pidfd and seccomp), relocate and rename __scm_install_fd() from
net/core/scm.c to __receive_fd() in fs/file.c, and provide a wrapper
named receive_fd_user(), as future patches will change the interface
to __receive_fd().
Additionally add a comment to fd_install() as a counterpoint to how
__receive_fd() interacts with fput().

Duplicate the cleanups from commit 2618d530dd ("net/scm: cleanup
scm_detach_fds") into the compat code.
Replace open-coded __receive_sock() with a call to the helper.
Move the check added in commit 1f466e1f15 ("net: cleanly handle kernel
vs user buffers for ->msg_control") to before the compat call, even
though it should be impossible for an in-kernel call to also be compat.
Correct the int "flags" argument to unsigned int to match fd_install()
and similar APIs.
Regularize any remaining differences, including a whitespace issue,
a checkpatch warning, and add the check from commit 6900317f5e ("net,
scm: fix PaX detected msg_controllen overflow in scm_detach_fds") which
fixed an overflow unique to 64-bit. To avoid confusion when comparing
the compat handler to the native handler, just include the same check
in the compat handler.

Add devlink-health reporter support on per-port basis.
The main difference existing devlink-health is that port reporters are
stored in per-devlink_port lists. Upon creation of such health reporter the
reference to a port it belongs to is stored in reporter struct.
Fill the port index attribute in devlink-health response to
allow devlink userspace utility to distinguish between device and port
reporters.

Devlink keeps its own reference to every reporter in a list and inits
refcount to 1 upon reporter's creation. Existing destructor waits to
free the memory indefinitely using msleep() until all references except
devlink's own are put.
Rework this mechanism by moving memory free routine to a separate
function, which is called when the last reporter reference is put.
Besides, it allows to call __devlink_health_reporter_destroy() while
locked on a reporters list mutex in symmetry to
__devlink_health_reporter_create(), which is required in follow-up
patch.

After commit bf9765145b ("sock: Make sk_protocol a 16-bit value")
the current size of 'sdiag_protocol' is not sufficient to represent
the possible protocol values.
This change introduces a new inet diag request attribute to let
user space specify the relevant protocol number using u32 values.
The attribute is parsed by inet diag core on get/dump command
and the extended protocol value, if available, is preferred to
'sdiag_protocol' to lookup the diag handler.
The parse attributed are exposed to all the diag handlers via
the cb->data.
Note that inet_diag_dump_one_icsk() is left unmodified, as it
will not be used by protocol using the extended attribute.

When evaluating access control over kallsyms visibility, credentials at
open() time need to be used, not the "current" creds (though in BPF's
case, this has likely always been the same). Plumb access to associated
file->f_cred down through bpf_dump_raw_ok() and its callers now that
kallsysm_show_value() has been refactored to take struct cred.

With the existing implementation of store_rps_map(), packets are queued
in the receive path on the backlog queues of other CPUs irrespective of
whether they are isolated or not. This could add a latency overhead to
any RT workload that is running on the same CPU.
Ensure that store_rps_map() only uses available housekeeping CPUs for
storing the rps_map.

Sometimes it's handy to know when the socket gets freed. In
particular, we'd like to try to use a smarter allocation of
ports for bpf_bind and explore the possibility of limiting
the number of SOCK_DGRAM sockets the process can have.
Implement BPF_CGROUP_INET_SOCK_RELEASE hook that triggers on
inet socket release. It triggers only for userspace sockets
(not in-kernel ones) and therefore has the same semantics as
the existing BPF_CGROUP_INET_SOCK_CREATE.

When we clone a socket in sk_clone_lock(), its sk_cgrp_data is
copied, so the cgroup refcnt must be taken too. And, unlike the
sk_alloc() path, sock_update_netprioidx() is not called here.
Therefore, it is safe and necessary to grab the cgroup refcnt
even when cgroup_sk_alloc is disabled.
sk_clone_lock() is in BH context anyway, the in_interrupt()
would terminate this function if called there. And for sk_alloc()
skcd->val is always zero. So it's safe to factor out the code
to make it more readable.
The global variable 'cgroup_sk_alloc_disabled' is used to determine
whether to take these reference counts. It is impossible to make
the reference counting correct unless we save this bit of information
in skcd->val. So, add a new bit there to record whether the socket
has already taken the reference counts. This obviously relies on
kmalloc() to align cgroup pointers to at least 4 bytes,
ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN is certainly larger than that.
This bug seems to be introduced since the beginning, commit
d979a39d72 ("cgroup: duplicate cgroup reference when cloning sockets")
tried to fix it but not compeletely. It seems not easy to trigger until
the recent commit 090e28b229
("netprio_cgroup: Fix unlimited memory leak of v2 cgroups") was merged.

There are a couple of places in net/sched/ that check skb->protocol and act
on the value there. However, in the presence of VLAN tags, the value stored
in skb->protocol can be inconsistent based on whether VLAN acceleration is
enabled. The commit quoted in the Fixes tag below fixed the users of
skb->protocol to use a helper that will always see the VLAN ethertype.
However, most of the callers don't actually handle the VLAN ethertype, but
expect to find the IP header type in the protocol field. This means that
things like changing the ECN field, or parsing diffserv values, stops
working if there's a VLAN tag, or if there are multiple nested VLAN
tags (QinQ).
To fix this, change the helper to take an argument that indicates whether
the caller wants to skip the VLAN tags or not. When skipping VLAN tags, we
make sure to skip all of them, so behaviour is consistent even in QinQ
mode.
To make the helper usable from the ECN code, move it to if_vlan.h instead
of pkt_sched.h.

The sockmap code currently ignores the value of attach_bpf_fd when
detaching a program. This is contrary to the usual behaviour of
checking that attach_bpf_fd represents the currently attached
program.
Ensure that attach_bpf_fd is indeed the currently attached
program. It turns out that all sockmap selftests already do this,
which indicates that this is unlikely to cause breakage.

Prepare for having multi-prog attachments for new netns attach types by
storing programs to run in a bpf_prog_array, which is well suited for
iterating over programs and running them in sequence.
After this change bpf(PROG_QUERY) may block to allocate memory in
bpf_prog_array_copy_to_user() for collected program IDs. This forces a
change in how we protect access to the attached program in the query
callback. Because bpf_prog_array_copy_to_user() can sleep, we switch from
an RCU read lock to holding a mutex that serializes updaters.
Because we allow only one BPF flow_dissector program to be attached to
netns at all times, the bpf_prog_array pointed by net->bpf.run_array is
always either detached (null) or one element long.
No functional changes intended.

Prepare for using bpf_prog_array to store attached programs by moving out
code that updates the attached program out of flow dissector.
Managing bpf_prog_array is more involved than updating a single bpf_prog
pointer. This will let us do it all from one place, bpf/net_namespace.c, in
the subsequent patch.
No functional change intended.

A following patch introduces qevents, points in qdisc algorithm where
packet can be processed by user-defined filters. Should this processing
lead to a situation where a new packet is to be enqueued on the same port,
holding the root lock would lead to deadlocks. To solve the issue, qevent
handler needs to unlock and relock the root lock when necessary.
To that end, add the root lock argument to the qdisc op enqueue, and
propagate throughout.

If an ingress verdict program specifies message sizes greater than
skb->len and there is an ENOMEM error due to memory pressure we
may call the rcv_msg handler outside the strp_data_ready() caller
context. This is because on an ENOMEM error the strparser will
retry from a workqueue. The caller currently protects the use of
psock by calling the strp_data_ready() inside a rcu_read_lock/unlock
block.
But, in above workqueue error case the psock is accessed outside
the read_lock/unlock block of the caller. So instead of using
psock directly we must do a look up against the sk again to
ensure the psock is available.
There is an an ugly piece here where we must handle
the case where we paused the strp and removed the psock. On
psock removal we first pause the strparser and then remove
the psock. If the strparser is paused while an skb is
scheduled on the workqueue the skb will be dropped on the
flow and kfree_skb() is called. If the workqueue manages
to get called before we pause the strparser but runs the rcvmsg
callback after the psock is removed we will hit the unlikely
case where we run the sockmap rcvmsg handler but do not have
a psock. For now we will follow strparser logic and drop the
skb on the floor with skb_kfree(). This is ugly because the
data is dropped. To date this has not caused problems in practice
because either the application controlling the sockmap is
coordinating with the datapath so that skbs are "flushed"
before removal or we simply wait for the sock to be closed before
removing it.
This patch fixes the describe RCU bug and dropping the skb doesn't
make things worse. Future patches will improve this by allowing
the normal case where skbs are not merged to skip the strparser
altogether. In practice many (most?) use cases have no need to
merge skbs so its both a code complexity hit as seen above and
a performance issue. For example, in the Cilium case we always
set the strparser up to return sbks 1:1 without any merging and
have avoided above issues.

There are two paths to generate the below RCU splat the first and
most obvious is the result of the BPF verdict program issuing a
redirect on a TLS socket (This is the splat shown below). Unlike
the non-TLS case the caller of the *strp_read() hooks does not
wrap the call in a rcu_read_lock/unlock. Then if the BPF program
issues a redirect action we hit the RCU splat.
However, in the non-TLS socket case the splat appears to be
relatively rare, because the skmsg caller into the strp_data_ready()
is wrapped in a rcu_read_lock/unlock. Shown here,

If the above was the only way to run the verdict program we
would be safe. But, there is a case where the strparser may throw an
ENOMEM error while parsing the skb. This is a result of a failed
skb_clone, or alloc_skb_for_msg while building a new merged skb when
the msg length needed spans multiple skbs. This will in turn put the
skb on the strp_wrk workqueue in the strparser code. The skb will
later be dequeued and verdict programs run, but now from a
different context without the rcu_read_lock()/unlock() critical
section in sk_psock_strp_data_ready() shown above. In practice
I have not seen this yet, because as far as I know most users of the
verdict programs are also only working on single skbs. In this case no
merge happens which could trigger the above ENOMEM errors. In addition
the system would need to be under memory pressure. For example, we
can't hit the above case in selftests because we missed having tests
to merge skbs. (Added in later patch)
To fix the below splat extend the rcu_read_lock/unnlock block to
include the call to sk_psock_tls_verdict_apply(). This will fix both
TLS redirect case and non-TLS redirect+error case. Also remove
psock from the sk_psock_tls_verdict_apply() function signature its
not used there.

The helper is used in tracing programs to cast a socket
pointer to a tcp6_sock pointer.
The return value could be NULL if the casting is illegal.
A new helper return type RET_PTR_TO_BTF_ID_OR_NULL is added
so the verifier is able to deduce proper return types for the helper.
Different from the previous BTF_ID based helpers,
the bpf_skc_to_tcp6_sock() argument can be several possible
btf_ids. More specifically, all possible socket data structures
with sock_common appearing in the first in the memory layout.
This patch only added socket types related to tcp and udp.
All possible argument btf_id and return value btf_id
for helper bpf_skc_to_tcp6_sock() are pre-calculcated and
cached. In the future, it is even possible to precompute
these btf_id's at kernel build time.

Clearing the sock TX queue in sk_set_socket() might cause unexpected
out-of-order transmit when called from sock_orphan(), as outstanding
packets can pick a different TX queue and bypass the ones already queued.
This is undesired in general. More specifically, it breaks the in-order
scheduling property guarantee for device-offloaded TLS sockets.
Remove the call to sk_tx_queue_clear() in sk_set_socket(), and add it
explicitly only where needed.

A netdevice may be marked as detached because the parent is
runtime-suspended and not accessible whilst interface or link is down.
An example are PCI network devices that go into PCI D3hot, see e.g.
__igc_shutdown() or rtl8169_net_suspend().
If netdevice is down and marked as detached we can only open it if
we runtime-resume it before __dev_open() calls netif_device_present().
Therefore, if netdevice is detached, try to runtime-resume the parent
and only return with an error if it's still detached.

There are two different `struct bpf_htab` in bpf code in the following
files:
- kernel/bpf/hashtab.c
- net/core/sock_map.c
It makes it impossible to find proper btf_id by name = "bpf_htab" and
kind = BTF_KIND_STRUCT what is needed to support access to map ptr so
that bpf program can access `struct bpf_htab` fields.
To make it possible one of the struct-s should be renamed, sock_map.c
looks like a better candidate for rename since it's specialized version
of hashtab.
Rename it to bpf_shtab ("sh" stands for Sock Hash).

If the representor is removed, then identify the indirect flow_blocks
that need to be removed by the release callback and the port representor
structure. To identify the port representor structure, a new
indr.cb_priv field needs to be introduced. The flow_block also needs to
be removed from the driver list from the cleanup path.

Add tlen field into struct tso_t, and change tso_start()
to return skb_transport_offset(skb) + tso->tlen
This removes from callers the need to use tcp_hdrlen(skb) and
will ease UDP segmentation offload addition.

Whenever a buggy NAPI driver returns more than its budget,
we emit a stack trace that is of no use, since it does not
tell which driver is buggy.
Instead, emit a message giving the function name, and a
descriptive message.

The cache_idx is currently picked by RR. There is chance that
the same cache_idx will be picked by multiple sk_storage_maps while
other cache_idx is still unused. e.g. It could happen when the
sk_storage_map is recreated during the restart of the user
space process.
This patch tracks the usage count for each cache_idx. There is
16 of them now (defined in BPF_SK_STORAGE_CACHE_SIZE).
It will try to pick the free cache_idx. If none was found,
it would pick one with the minimal usage count.

Add missed bpf_map_charge_init() in sock_hash_alloc() and
correspondingly bpf_map_charge_finish() on ENOMEM.
It was found accidentally while working on unrelated selftest that
checks "map->memory.pages > 0" is true for all map types.

The stream parser infrastructure isn't set up to deal with UDP
sockets, so we mustn't try to attach programs to them.
I remember making this change at some point, but I must have lost
it while rebasing or something similar.

Added a check in the switch case on start_header that checks for
the existence of the header, and in the case that MAC is not set
and the caller requests for MAC, -EFAULT. If the caller requests
for NET then MAC's existence is completely ignored.
There is no function to check NET header's existence and as far
as cgroup_skb/egress is concerned it should always be set.
Removed for ptr >= the start of header, considering offset is
bounded unsigned and should always be true. len <= end - mac is
redundant to ptr + len <= end.

The dynamic key update for addr_list_lock still causes troubles,
for example the following race condition still exists:
CPU 0: CPU 1:
(RCU read lock) (RTNL lock)
dev_mc_seq_show() netdev_update_lockdep_key()
-> lockdep_unregister_key()
-> netif_addr_lock_bh()
because lockdep doesn't provide an API to update it atomically.
Therefore, we have to move it back to static keys and use subclass
for nest locking like before.
In commit 1a33e10e4a ("net: partially revert dynamic lockdep key
changes"), I already reverted most parts of commit ab92d68fc2
("net: core: add generic lockdep keys").
This patch reverts the rest and also part of commit f3b0a18bb6
("net: remove unnecessary variables and callback"). After this
patch, addr_list_lock changes back to using static keys and
subclasses to satisfy lockdep. Thanks to dev->lower_level, we do
not have to change back to ->ndo_get_lock_subclass().
And hopefully this reduces some syzbot lockdep noises too.

We can end up modifying the sockhash bucket list from two CPUs when a
sockhash is being destroyed (sock_hash_free) on one CPU, while a socket
that is in the sockhash is unlinking itself from it on another CPU
it (sock_hash_delete_from_link).
This results in accessing a list element that is in an undefined state as
reported by KASAN:

Fix it by reintroducing spin-lock protected critical section around the
code that removes the elements from the bucket on sockhash free.
To do that we also need to defer processing of removed elements, until out
of atomic context so that we can unlink the socket from the map when
holding the sock lock.

When sockhash gets destroyed while sockets are still linked to it, we will
walk the bucket lists and delete the links. However, we are not freeing the
list elements after processing them, leaking the memory.
The leak can be triggered by close()'ing a sockhash map when it still
contains sockets, and observed with kmemleak:

Sequence counters write paths are critical sections that must never be
preempted, and blocking, even for CONFIG_PREEMPTION=n, is not allowed.
Commit 5dbe7c178d ("net: fix kernel deadlock with interface rename and
netdev name retrieval.") handled a deadlock, observed with
CONFIG_PREEMPTION=n, where the devnet_rename seqcount read side was
infinitely spinning: it got scheduled after the seqcount write side
blocked inside its own critical section.
To fix that deadlock, among other issues, the commit added a
cond_resched() inside the read side section. While this will get the
non-preemptible kernel eventually unstuck, the seqcount reader is fully
exhausting its slice just spinning -- until TIF_NEED_RESCHED is set.
The fix is also still broken: if the seqcount reader belongs to a
real-time scheduling policy, it can spin forever and the kernel will
livelock.
Disabling preemption over the seqcount write side critical section will
not work: inside it are a number of GFP_KERNEL allocations and mutex
locking through the drivers/base/ :: device_rename() call chain.
>From all the above, replace the seqcount with a rwsem.

The seg6_validate_srh() is used to validate SRH for three cases:
case1: SRH of data-plane SRv6 packets to be processed by the Linux kernel.
Case2: SRH of the netlink message received from user-space (iproute2)
Case3: SRH injected into packets through setsockopt
In case1, the SRH can be encoded in the Reduced way (i.e., first SID is
carried in DA only and not represented as SID in the SRH) and the
seg6_validate_srh() now handles this case correctly.
In case2 and case3, the SRH shouldn’t be encoded in the Reduced way
otherwise we lose the first segment (i.e., the first hop).
The current implementation of the seg6_validate_srh() allow SRH of case2
and case3 to be encoded in the Reduced way. This leads a slab-out-of-bounds
problem.
This patch verifies SRH of case1, case2 and case3. Allowing case1 to be
reduced while preventing SRH of case2 and case3 from being reduced .

A recent commit added new variables only used if CONFIG_NETDEVICES is
set. A simple fix would be to only declare these variables if the same
condition is valid but Alexei suggested an even simpler solution:
since CONFIG_NETDEVICES doesn't change anything in .h I think the
best is to remove #ifdef CONFIG_NETDEVICES from net/core/filter.c
and rely on sock_bindtoindex() returning ENOPROTOOPT in the extreme
case of oddly configured kernels.
