Call to led_pwm_set() can happen inside atomic context, like triggers.
If the PWM call can sleep, defer using a worker.

According to a sysfs documentation(Documentation/filesystem/sysfs.txt),
scnprintf() should be used in a read operation method.
It guarantees safe buffer size(PAGE_SIZE) which is allocated by the sysfs.

Some LED devices support flash/torch functionality through the LED subsystem.
This patch enables direct LED trigger controls by the driver.
Flash on/off and torch on/off can be done simply by other driver space.
Two trigger APIs are added, ledtrig_flash_ctrl() and ledtrig_torch_ctrl().

The gpio_request_one() flags parameter was set to:
GPIOF_DIR_OUT | !!brightness
GPIOF_DIR_OUT and GPIOF_DIR_IN are defined as below:
GPIOF_DIR_OUT (0 << 0)
GPIOF_DIR_IN (1 << 0)
So, when '!!brightness' is 1, the gpio pin can be set as input,
instead of output.
To prevent this problem, GPIOF_OUT_INIT flags should be used when
using gpio_request_one().

For better driver management, new subdirectory, 'trigger' is created.
All LED trigger drivers are moved into this directory.
Internal header, 'leds.h' is included in each LED trigger drivers.
Fix the location of header file, "leds.h" -> "../leds.h" in driver files.
One exception is here, 'ledtrig-timer.c'.
There is no need to include 'leds.h'. so '#include "leds.h"' line was removed.

LP5562 can drive up to 4 channels, RGB and White.
LEDs can be controlled directly via the led class control interface.
LP55xx common driver
LP5562 is one of LP55xx family device, so LP55xx common code are used.
On the other hand, chip specific configuration is defined in the structure
'lp55xx_device_config'
LED pattern data
LP5562 has also internal program memory which is used for running various LED
patterns. LP5562 driver supports the firmware interface and the predefined
pattern data as well.
LP5562 device attributes: 'led_pattern' and 'engine_mux'
A 'led_pattern' is an index code which runs the predefined pattern data.
And 'engine_mux' is updated with the firmware interface is activated.
Detailed description has been updated in the documentation files,
'leds-lp55xx.txt' and 'leds-lp5562.txt'.
Changes on the header file
LP5562 configurable definitions are added.
Pattern RGB data is fixed as constant value.
(No side effect on other devices, LP5521 or LP5523.)

of_find_node_by_name() returns a node pointer with refcount incremented, use
of_node_put() on it when done.
of_find_node_by_name() will call of_node_put() against from parameter,
thus we also need to call of_node_get(from) before calling
of_find_node_by_name().

LP55XX common device attributes, 'led_current' and 'max_current' are created
while loading the driver.
Those are LED device attributes which are removed automatically on releasing
led class devices - led_classdev_unregister().
Therefore, this duplicate code should be removed.

LP5521 and LP5523 have a selftest function which is run via the sysfs.
Use lp55xx driver data and R/W functions rather than lp5521/5523 private data
and functions.
Additionally, if-statements are changed for code simplicity.

This patch provides additional device attributes which enable
loading the firmware. ('select_engine' and 'run_engine')
To run a LED pattern, two parts of driver should be enabled.

LP55xx chips have three program engines.
To load and run a LED pattern, the programming sequence is as follows.
(1) Select an engine number (1/2/3)
(2) Set engine mode to load
(3) Write pattern data into selected area
(4) Set engine mode to run
This sequence is almost same as the firmware interface.
(1) Select an engine number : 'select_engine' dev attribute
(2) Mode change to load : 'loading' of firmware class
(3) Write pattern data into selected area : 'data' of firmware class
(4) Mode change to run : 'run_engine' dev attribute
(1) and (4) are device specific features which provide callback functions
(2) and (3) are common features.
For example,
echo 1 or 2 or 3 > /sys/bus/i2c/devices/xxxx/select_engine
echo 1 > /sys/class/firmware/lp5521/loading
echo "4000600040FF6000" > /sys/class/firmware/lp5521/data
echo 0 > /sys/class/firmware/lp5521/loading

As soon as 'loading' is set to 0, registered callback is called.
Inside the callback, the selected engine is loaded and memory is updated.
To run programmed pattern, 'run_engine' attribute should be enabled.

LP55xx family chips have internal program memory which run various patterns.
Using this memory, LEDs continue on blinking/dimming without continuous I2C
commands. That means the I2C HOST can be entered into sleep once the memory
is updated.
An application can get hex data from a file and write them into
the program memory through the I2C. This is general firwmare interface.
This patch is the initial step for adding the firmware interface.

Max current is a read-only attribute.
These attributes code can be shared in lp55xx common driver.

This function is invoked when the brightness of each LED channel is updated.
LP5521 and LP5523 have different register address for the brightness control,
so this work is done by chip specific brightness_work_fn().

LED class devices are registered in lp5521_register_leds() and
lp5523_register_leds().
Two separate functions are merged into consolidated lp55xx function,
lp55xx_register_leds().
Error handling fix:
Unregistering LEDS are handled in lp55xx_register_leds() when LED registration
failure occurs. So each driver error handler is changed to 'err_register_leds'
Chip dependency: 'brightness_work_fn' and 'set_led_current'
To make the structure abstract, both functions are configured in each driver.
Those functions should be done by each driver because register control is
chip-dependant work.

If chip configuration gets failed, the device is de-initialized in

rather than 'fail2'.

Thus, 'goto fail1' is proper error handler of this function.

I spent a few minutes to understand why the code catching the mismatch case
by checking if k is 0 or not. And the code using "k - 1" as array index is
unusual.
This patch checks acceptable rate from the lowest rate, and then we don't need
to subtract k by 1. This change improves the readability.

The lp8788-keyled is a platform driver of lp8788-mfd. The platform
device is allocated when mfd_add_devices() is called in lp8788-mfd.
On the other hand, 'lp->dev' is the i2c client device.
Therefore, this 'platform_device' is a proper parent device in case
of resource managed mem alloc, registering led device and device
kernel messages.

The DT binding for the pwm-leds devices are similar to the gpio-leds type.
LEDs are represented as sub-nodes of the pwm-leds device.
The code for handling the DT boot is based on the code found in the
leds-gpio driver and adapted to use PWMs instead of GPIOs.
To avoid having custom cleanup code in case of DT boot the newly created
devm_of_pwm_get() API is used to get the correct PWM instance.

commit a99d76f leds: leds-gpio: use gpio_request_one
changed the leds-gpio driver to use gpio_request_one() instead
of gpio_request() + gpio_direction_output()
Unfortunately, it also made a semantic change that breaks the
leds-gpio driver.
The gpio_request_one() flags parameter was set to:
GPIOF_DIR_OUT | (led_dat->active_low ^ state)
Since GPIOF_DIR_OUT is 0, the final flags value will just be the
XOR'ed value of led_dat->active_low and state.
This value were used to distinguish between HIGH/LOW output initial
level and call gpio_direction_output() accordingly.
With this new semantic gpio_request_one() will take the flags value
of 1 as a configuration of input direction (GPIOF_DIR_IN) and will
call gpio_direction_input() instead of gpio_direction_output().

3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all,
it's up to you. The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been
doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily.

firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core.

This patch makes leds-gpio's probe() return -EPROBE_DEFER if any of the gpios
to register are deferred themselves. This makes a change of
gpio_leds_create_of()'s return value necessary: Instead of returning NULL on

This patch adds DT board setup for the LaCie NAS Network Space Mini v2
(aka SafeBox). The hardware characteristics are very close to those of
the Network Space Lite v2. The main difference are:
- A GPIO fan which is only available on the NS2 Mini.
- A single USB host port is wired on the NS2 Mini. The NS2 Lite provides
an additional dual-mode USB port (host/device).

Miles Lane has reported seeing similar splats during system suspend.
The mutex in struct led_trigger_cpu appears to have no function: it
resides in a per-cpu data structure which never changes after the
trigger is registered. So just remove it.

"This is workqueue updates for v3.7-rc1. A lot of activities this
round including considerable API and behavior cleanups.
* delayed_work combines a timer and a work item. The handling of the
timer part has always been a bit clunky leading to confusing
cancelation API with weird corner-case behaviors. delayed_work is
updated to use new IRQ safe timer and cancelation now works as
expected.
* Another deficiency of delayed_work was lack of the counterpart of
mod_timer() which led to cancel+queue combinations or open-coded
timer+work usages. mod_delayed_work[_on]() are added.
These two delayed_work changes make delayed_work provide interface
and behave like timer which is executed with process context.
* A work item could be executed concurrently on multiple CPUs, which
is rather unintuitive and made flush_work() behavior confusing and
half-broken under certain circumstances. This problem doesn't
exist for non-reentrant workqueues. While non-reentrancy check
isn't free, the overhead is incurred only when a work item bounces
across different CPUs and even in simulated pathological scenario
the overhead isn't too high.
All workqueues are made non-reentrant. This removes the
distinction between flush_[delayed_]work() and
flush_[delayed_]_work_sync(). The former is now as strong as the
latter and the specified work item is guaranteed to have finished
execution of any previous queueing on return.
* In addition to the various bug fixes, Lai redid and simplified CPU
hotplug handling significantly.
* Joonsoo introduced system_highpri_wq and used it during CPU
hotplug.
There are two merge commits - one to pull in IRQ safe timer from
tip/timers/core and the other to pull in CPU hotplug fixes from
wq/for-3.6-fixes as Lai's hotplug restructuring depended on them."
Fixed a number of trivial conflicts, but the more interesting conflicts
were silent ones where the deprecated interfaces had been used by new
code in the merge window, and thus didn't cause any real data conflicts.

The last attribute should be terminated as NULL because any member of
attribute structure is accessed while adding the sysfs file.
If not, invalid address may cause the page fault problem.

The LP5523 has 3 engines which are used for running LED patterns.
These engines should be off while unloading the driver.
Obviously, LP5523 platform data are used for releasing the resource
such like enable()/release_resource(), but these are not mandatory.
Therefore this patch is required without the platform data dependency.

LP5523 driver supports both LP5523 and LP55231. The i2c device id
is one of the two - lp5523 or lp55231. So it's better to use
matching i2c device id while enumerating the device and naming LED
channels.

New TI LP55231 device has same I2C register layout as LP5523. Therefore,
all of LED operations can be shared with the LP5523 driver.
To support new LP55231 device explicitly, the device description

Some triggers create sysfs files when they are enabled. Send a uevent
"change" notification whenever the trigger is changed to allow userspace
processes such as udev to modify permissions on the new files.
A change notification will also be sent during registration of led class
devices or led triggers if the default trigger of an led class device
is found.

Delay execution of led_set_brightness() if need to stop soft-blink
timer.
This allows led_set_brightness to be called in hard-irq context even if
soft-blink was activated on that LED.

flush[_delayed]_work_sync() are now spurious. Mark them deprecated
and convert all users to flush[_delayed]_work().
If you're cc'd and wondering what's going on: Now all workqueues are
non-reentrant and the regular flushes guarantee that the work item is
not pending or running on any CPU on return, so there's no reason to
use the sync flushes at all and they're going away.
This patch doesn't make any functional difference.

Based on Linus Walleij's ARM LED consolidation work, this patchset introduce a
new generic led trigger for CPU not only for ARM but also for others.
For enabling CPU idle event, CPU arch code should call ledtrig_cpu() stub to
trigger idle start or idle end event.

bfe4c041 "leds: convert Renesas TPU LED driver to devm_kzalloc() and
cleanup error exit path" introduced a possible case in which r_tpu_probe
calls iounmap on a wild pointer. This changes the one case that was
missed in the same way as the other error paths.

Attempting to consolidate the ARM LED code, this removes the
custom RealView LED trigger code to turn LEDs on and off in
response to CPU activity and replace it with a standard trigger.

TI LP8788 PMU has the current sink as the keyboard led driver.
The brightness is controlled by the i2c commands.
Configurable parameters can be defined in the platform side.

A BlinkM is a RGB LED controlled through I2C.
This driver implements an interface to the LED framework

It is not necessary to call max8997_update_reg() twice just for updating
MAX8997_REG_LEN_CNTL register. With proper val and mask arguments to
max8997_update_reg() call, this can be done in one max8997_update_reg() call.
And then we can remove max8997_led_clear_mode() function.

The s3c2410_gpio* calls are obsolete and have been scheduled for
removal since several kernel releases. Remove them and use common
gpiolib API instead.
This patch also adds gpio_request/gpio_free call for API corectness.
It is a prerequisite for removal of the S3C24XX SoC specific
arch/arm/plat-samsung/include/gpio-fns.h header.

Inside the error handling in lp5523_init_led(), there is a place that
calls to led_classdev_unregister(). When we unregister the LED drivers,
it tries to set the brightness to OFF. In this driver setting the
brightness is done through a work queue and the work queue hasn't been
initialized yet.
The result is that we trigger a WARN_ON() in the __queue_work().
The fix is to move the INIT_WORK() in front of the call to
lp5523_init_led().

Fix led_trigger_event() to use led_set_brightness() instead of
__led_set_brightness(), so that any pending blink timer is stopped before
setting the new brightness value. Without this fix LED status may be
overridden by a pending timer.
This allows a trigger to use a mix of led_trigger_event(),
led_trigger_blink() and led_trigger_blink_oneshot() without races.

Rename leds external interface led_brightness_set() to led_set_brightness().
This is the second phase of the change to reduce confusion between the
leds internal and external interfaces that set brightness. With this change,
now the external interface is led_set_brightness(). The first phase renamed
the internal interface led_set_brightness() to __led_set_brightness().
There are no changes to the interface implementations.

Move led_stop_software_blink() code into led_brightness_set() to ensure
software blink timer is stopped and cleared when changing trigger.
Also use led_set_brightness() instead of calling
led_cdev->brightness_set() directly to keep led_cdev->brightness
consistent with current LED status.
This ensure proper cleaning when changing triggers, as without this fix
a LED may be turned off while leaving it's led_cdev->brightness = 1,
leading to an erratic software-blink behaviour.
The problem was easy to reproduce by changing the trigger from "timer"
to "oneshot".

Convert ledtrig-ide-disk code to use the generic API for one-shot LED
blinking.
This patch changes slightly the behaviour of the trigger, as while the
original version kept the LED on under heavy activity, the new one keeps
a constant on-off blink at 1 / (2 * BLINK_DELAY) Hz.

Add two new functions, led_blink_set_oneshot and
led_trigger_blink_oneshot, to be used by triggers for one-shot blink of
led devices.
This is implemented extending the existing software-blink code, and uses
the same timer and handler function.
The behavior of the code is to do a blink-on, blink-off sequence when
the function is called, ignoring other calls until the sequence is
completed so that the leds keep blinking at constant rate if the
functions are called repeatedly.
This is meant to be used by drivers which needs to trigger on sporadic
event, but doesn't have clear busy/idle trigger points.
After the blink sequence the led remains off. This behavior can be
inverted setting the "invert" argument, which blink the led off, than on
and leave the led on after the sequence.

Function led_set_software_blink() assumes that blink timer is still running,
but commit 488bc35bf4 introduced disabling
of blink timer before each call to led_set_software_blink().
Correct led_software_blink():
1) remove protection against reprogramming blink timer to the same values,
because it only disables blinking now,
2) remove unnecessary call to led_stop_software_blink().

When issuing the following command:

It is possible that all the pca955x_read_ls calls are done sequentially
before any pca955x_write_ls call is done. This updates the LS only to
the last LED update in its set.
Fix this by using a global lock for the pca995x device during
pca955x_led_work. Also used a struct for shared data betreen all LEDs.

The leds timer trigger does not currently have an interface to activate a
one shot timer. The current support allows for setting two timers, one
for specifying how long a state to be on, and the second for how long the
state to be off. The delay_on value specifies the time period an LED
should stay in on state, followed by a delay_off value that specifies how
long the LED should stay in off state. The on and off cycle repeats until
the trigger gets deactivated. There is no provision for one time
activation to implement features that require an on or off state to be
held just once and then stay in the original state forever.
Without one shot timer interface, user space can still use timer trigger
to set a timer to hold a state, however when user space application
crashes or goes away without deactivating the timer, the hardware will be
left in that state permanently.
As a specific example of this use-case, let's look at vibrate feature on
phones. Vibrate function on phones is implemented using PWM pins on SoC
or PMIC. There is a need to activate one shot timer to control the
vibrate feature, to prevent user space crashes leaving the phone in
vibrate mode permanently causing the battery to drain.
This trigger exports three properties, activate, state, and duration When
transient trigger is activated these properties are set to default values.
- duration allows setting timer value in msecs. The initial value is 0.
- activate allows activating and deactivating the timer specified by
duration as needed. The initial and default value is 0. This will allow
duration to be set after trigger activation.
- state allows user to specify a transient state to be held for the specified
duration.

the number of board files low, but generally board level updates are
ok on platforms that are working on moving towards DT based probing,
which will eventually lead to removing them.
The board-ams-delta.c board file gets a conflict between the removal of
ams_delta_config and the addition of a lot of other data. The Kconfig
file has two changes in the same line, and in exynos, the power domain
cleanup conflicts with the addition of the image sensor device.

* add 'struct lm3530_pwm_data' in the platform data
The pwm data is the platform specific functions which generate the pwm.
The pwm data is only valid when brightness is pwm input mode.
Functions should be implemented by the pwm driver.
pwm_set_intensity() : set duty of pwm.
pwm_get_intensity() : get current the brightness.
* brightness control by pwm
If the control mode is pwm, then brightness is changed by the duty of
pwm=. So pwm platform function should be called in lm3530_brightness_set().
* do not update brightness register when pwm input mode
In pwm input mode, brightness register is not used.
If any value is updated in this register, then the led will be off.
* when input mode is changed, set duty of pwm to 0 if unnecessary.

Only 7 bits are used for updating the brightness. (register address :
A0h) So the max_brightness property of lm3530 should be set to 127.
On initializing registers, maximum initial brightness is limited to
'max_brightness'.
Division-by-two is removed on updating the brightness. This arithmetic is
not necessary because the range of brightness is 0 ~ 127= .

The lp5521 has autonomous operation mode without external control.
Using lp5521_platform_data, various led patterns can be configurable.
For supporting this feature, new functions and device attribute are
added.
Structure of lp5521_led_pattern: 3 channels are supported - red, green
and blue. Pattern(s) of each channel and numbers of pattern(s) are
defined in the pla= tform data. Pattern data are hexa codes which
include pattern commands such like set pwm, wait, ramp up/down, branch
and so on.
Pattern mode functions:
* lp5521_clear_program_memory
Before running new led pattern, program memory should be cleared.
* lp5521_write_program_memory
Pattern data updated in the program memory via the i2c.
* lp5521_get_pattern
Get pattern from predefined in the platform data.
* lp5521_run_led_pattern
Stop current pattern or run new pattern.
Transition time is required between different operation mode.
Device attribute - 'led_pattern': To load specific led pattern, new device
attribute is added.
When the lp5521 driver is unloaded, stop current led pattern mode.
Documentation updated : description about how to define the led patterns
and example.

The value of CONFIG register(Addr 08h) is configurable. For supporting
this feature, update_config is added in the platform data. If
'update_config' is not defined, the default value is 'LP5521_PWRSAVE_EN |
LP5521_CP_MODE_AUTO | LP5521_R_TO_BATT'.
To define CONFIG register in the platform data, the bit definitions were
mo= ved to the header file.

1) There is a NULL dereference if the tca allocation fails.
2) The call to cancel_work_sync() isn't needed because we haven't
scheduled any work.

This patch changes the ARCH name to "ARCH_S3C24XX" for Samsung
S3C2410, S3C2412, S3C2413, S3C2416, S3C2440, S3C2442, S3C2443,
and S3C2450 SoCs so that we can merge the mach-xxx directories
and plat-s3c24xx dir. to just one mach-s3c24xx for them.
I think this should be sent to upstream via samsung tree because
this touches many samsung stuff.

In current code, pltfm->als_vmin is set to LM3530_ALS_WINDOW_mV and
pltfm->als_vmax is 0. This does not make sense. I think what we want
here is setting pltfm->als_vmax to LM3530_ALS_WINDOW_mV.
Both als_vmin and als_vmax local variables will be set to
pltfm->als_vmin and pltfm->als_vmax by a few lines latter. Thus also
remove a redundant assignment for als_vmin and als_vmax in this patch.

Add support for leds on Bachmann's ot200 visualisation device. The
device has three leds on the back panel (led_err, led_init and led_run)
and can handle up to seven leds on the front panel.

Fix up trivial conflict in drivers/leds/Kconfig due to addition of
LEDS_MAX8997 and LEDS_TCA6507 next to each other.
module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.
It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

TI's TCA6507 is the LED driver in the GTA04 Openmoko motherboard. The
driver provides full support for brightness levels and hardware blinking.
This driver can drive each of 7 outputs as an LED or a GPIO output,
and provides hardware-assist blinking.

Fix up trivial conflicts in arch/powerpc/platforms/40x/Kconfig (some new
kconfig additions, close to removed commented-out old ones)
This resolves the conflict in the arch/arm/mach-s3c64xx/s3c6400.c file,
and it fixes the build error in the arch/x86/kernel/microcode_core.c
file, that the merge did not catch.
The microcode_core.c patch was provided by Stephen Rothwell
<sfr@canb.auug.org.au> who was invaluable in the merge issues involved
with the large sysdev removal process in the driver-core tree.

The sysdev.h file should not be needed by any in-kernel code, so remove
the .h file from these random files that seem to still want to include
it.
The sysdev code will be going away soon, so this include needs to be
removed no matter what.

Make sure that the reset is successful by issuing a dummy read to R
channel current register and check its default value. On some platforms,

Depending on the implementation of the hardware blinking function in
blink_set(), the led can support hardware blinking for some values of
delay_on and delay_off and fall-back to software blinking for some other
values.
Turning off the blink_timer unconditionally before starting to blink
make sure that a sequence like:
OFF
hardware blinking
software blinking
hardware blinking
does not leave the software blinking timer active.

My GPIOs are on an I2C port expander, so we must use the *_cansleep()
variant of the GPIO functions. This is was not being done in
create_gpio_led().
We can change gpio_get_value() to gpio_get_value_cansleep() because it is
only called from the platform_driver probe function, which is a context
where we can sleep.
Only tested on my gpio_cansleep() system, but it seems safe for all
systems.

According to the comments in include/linux/init.h:
"Pointers to __devexit functions must use __devexit_p(function_name), the
wrapper will insert either the function_name or NULL, depending on the config
options."
We have __devexit annotation for lm3530_remove(), so add __devexit_p to
the `struct i2c_driver'.

Add V2 of the LED driver for a single timer channel for the TPU hardware
block commonly found in Renesas SoCs.
The driver has been written with optimal Power Management in mind, so to
save power the LED is driven as a regular GPIO pin in case of maximum
brightness and power off which allows the TPU hardware to be idle and
which in turn allows the clocks to be stopped and the power domain to be
turned off transparently.
Any other brightness level requires use of the TPU hardware in PWM mode.
TPU hardware device clocks and power are managed through Runtime PM.
System suspend and resume is known to be working - during suspend the LED
is set to off by the generic LED code.
The TPU hardware timer is equipeed with a 16-bit counter together with an
up-to-divide-by-64 prescaler which makes the hardware suitable for
brightness control. Hardware blink is unsupported.
The LED PWM waveform has been verified with a Fluke 123 Scope meter on a
sh7372 Mackerel board. Tested with experimental sh7372 A3SP power domain
patches. Platform device bind/unbind tested ok.
V2 has been tested on the DS2 LED of the sh73a0-based AG5EVM.
