This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:

NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.
The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

net/atm/mpoa_* files use 'struct timeval' to store event
timestamps. struct timeval uses a 32-bit seconds field which will
overflow in the year 2038 and beyond. Morever, the timestamps are being
compared only to get seconds elapsed, so struct timeval which stores
a seconds and microseconds field is an overkill. This patch replaces
the use of struct timeval with time64_t to store a 64-bit seconds field.

With all callbacks converted, and the timer callback prototype
switched over, the TIMER_FUNC_TYPE cast is no longer needed,
so remove it. Conversion was done with the following scripts:

Pull timer updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"Yet another big pile of changes:
- More year 2038 work from Arnd slowly reaching the point where we
need to think about the syscalls themself.
- A new timer function which allows to conditionally (re)arm a timer
only when it's either not running or the new expiry time is sooner
than the armed expiry time. This allows to use a single timer for
multiple timeout requirements w/o caring about the first expiry
time at the call site.
- A new NMI safe accessor to clock real time for the printk timestamp
work. Can be used by tracing, perf as well if required.
- A large number of timer setup conversions from Kees which got
collected here because either maintainers requested so or they
simply got ignored. As Kees pointed out already there are a few
trivial merge conflicts and some redundant commits which was
unavoidable due to the size of this conversion effort.
- Avoid a redundant iteration in the timer wheel softirq processing.
- Provide a mechanism to treat RTC implementations depending on their
hardware properties, i.e. don't inflict the write at the 0.5
seconds boundary which originates from the PC CMOS RTC to all RTCs.
No functional change as drivers need to be updated separately.
- The usual small updates to core code clocksource drivers. Nothing
really exciting"

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

It seems like a historic accident that these return unsigned char *,
and in many places that means casts are required, more often than not.
Make these functions (skb_put, __skb_put and pskb_put) return void *
and remove all the casts across the tree, adding a (u8 *) cast only
where the unsigned char pointer was used directly, all done with the

neigh notifications today carry pid 0 for nlmsg_pid
in all cases. This patch fixes it to carry calling process
pid when available. Applications (eg. quagga) rely on
nlmsg_pid to ignore notifications generated by their own
netlink operations. This patch follows the routing subsystem
which already sets this correctly.

The deeply nested alloc_skb is a problem.
Diagnosis: nesting is wrong. It makes zero sense. Fix it and the
implicit task state change problem automagically goes away.
alloc_skb() does not need to be in the "while" loop.
alloc_skb() does not need to be in the {prepare_to_wait/add_wait_queue ...
finish_wait/remove_wait_queue} block.
I claim that:
- alloc_tx() should only perform the "wait_for_decent_tx_drain" part
- alloc_skb() ought to be done directly in vcc_sendmsg
- alloc_skb() failure can be handled gracefully in vcc_sendmsg
- alloc_skb() may use a (m->msg_flags & MSG_DONTWAIT) dependent
GFP_{KERNEL / ATOMIC} flag

Lockdep issues a circular dependency warning when AFS issues an operation
through AF_RXRPC from a context in which the VFS/VM holds the mmap_sem.
The theory lockdep comes up with is as follows:
(1) If the pagefault handler decides it needs to read pages from AFS, it
calls AFS with mmap_sem held and AFS begins an AF_RXRPC call, but
creating a call requires the socket lock:
mmap_sem must be taken before sk_lock-AF_RXRPC
(2) afs_open_socket() opens an AF_RXRPC socket and binds it. rxrpc_bind()
binds the underlying UDP socket whilst holding its socket lock.
inet_bind() takes its own socket lock:
sk_lock-AF_RXRPC must be taken before sk_lock-AF_INET
(3) Reading from a TCP socket into a userspace buffer might cause a fault
and thus cause the kernel to take the mmap_sem, but the TCP socket is
locked whilst doing this:
sk_lock-AF_INET must be taken before mmap_sem
However, lockdep's theory is wrong in this instance because it deals only
with lock classes and not individual locks. The AF_INET lock in (2) isn't
really equivalent to the AF_INET lock in (3) as the former deals with a
socket entirely internal to the kernel that never sees userspace. This is
a limitation in the design of lockdep.
Fix the general case by:
(1) Double up all the locking keys used in sockets so that one set are
used if the socket is created by userspace and the other set is used
if the socket is created by the kernel.
(2) Store the kern parameter passed to sk_alloc() in a variable in the
sock struct (sk_kern_sock). This informs sock_lock_init(),
sock_init_data() and sk_clone_lock() as to the lock keys to be used.
Note that the child created by sk_clone_lock() inherits the parent's
kern setting.
(3) Add a 'kern' parameter to ->accept() that is analogous to the one
passed in to ->create() that distinguishes whether kernel_accept() or
sys_accept4() was the caller and can be passed to sk_alloc().
Note that a lot of accept functions merely dequeue an already
allocated socket. I haven't touched these as the new socket already
exists before we get the parameter.
Note also that there are a couple of places where I've made the accepted
socket unconditionally kernel-based:
irda_accept()
rds_rcp_accept_one()
tcp_accept_from_sock()
because they follow a sock_create_kern() and accept off of that.
Whilst creating this, I noticed that lustre and ocfs don't create sockets
through sock_create_kern() and thus they aren't marked as for-kernel,
though they appear to be internal. I wonder if these should do that so
that they use the new set of lock keys.

We are going to split <linux/sched/signal.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which
will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files.
Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/signal.h> file that just
maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and
bisectable.
Include the new header in the files that are going to need it.

Now that %z is standartised in C99 there is no reason to support %Z.
Unlike %L it doesn't even make format strings smaller.
Use BUILD_BUG_ON in a couple ATM drivers.
In case anyone didn't notice lib/vsprintf.o is about half of SLUB which
is in my opinion is quite an achievement. Hopefully this patch inspires
someone else to trim vsprintf.c more.

These few drivers call ether_setup(), but have no ndo_change_mtu, and thus
were overlooked for changes to MTU range checking behavior. They
previously had no range checks, so for feature-parity, set their min_mtu
to 0 and max_mtu to ETH_MAX_MTU (65535), instead of the 68 and 1500
inherited from the ether_setup() changes. Fine-tuning can come after we get
back to full feature-parity here.

With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by
eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as
deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been
audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means
they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu
prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of
out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it.
Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using
eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you
couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set
to 4096 to remedy that.

The IS_ENABLED() macro checks if a Kconfig symbol has been enabled either
built-in or as a module, use that macro instead of open coding the same.
Using the macro makes the code more readable by helping abstract away some
of the Kconfig built-in and module enable details.

The sk_err and sk_err_soft fields are positive errno values and
userspace applications rely on this when using getsockopt(SO_ERROR).
ATM code places an -errno into sk_err_soft in sigd_send() and returns it
from svc_addparty()/svc_dropparty().
Although I am not familiar with ATM code I came to this conclusion
because:
1. sigd_send() msg->type cases as_okay and as_error both have:
sk->sk_err = -msg->reply;
while the as_addparty and as_dropparty cases have:
sk->sk_err_soft = msg->reply;
This is the source of the inconsistency.
2. svc_addparty() returns an -errno and assumes sk_err_soft is also an
-errno:

This shows that sk_err_soft is indeed being treated as an -errno.

The memory barrier in the helper wq_has_sleeper is needed by just
about every user of waitqueue_active. This patch generalises it
by making it take a wait_queue_head_t directly. The existing
helper is renamed to skwq_has_sleeper.

After TIPC doesn't depend on iocb argument in its internal
implementations of sendmsg() and recvmsg() hooks defined in proto
structure, no any user is using iocb argument in them at all now.
Then we can drop the redundant iocb argument completely from kinds of
implementations of both sendmsg() and recvmsg() in the entire
networking stack.

This encapsulates all of the skb_copy_datagram_iovec() callers
with call argument signature "skb, offset, msghdr->msg_iov, length".
When we move to iov_iters in the networking, the iov_iter object will
sit in the msghdr.
Having a helper like this means there will be less places to touch
during that transformation.

Testing xmit_more support with netperf and connected UDP sockets,
I found strange dst refcount false sharing.
Current handling of IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE is not optimal.
Dropping dst in validate_xmit_skb() is certainly too late in case
packet was queued by cpu X but dequeued by cpu Y
The logical point to take care of drop/force is in __dev_queue_xmit()
before even taking qdisc lock.
As Julian Anastasov pointed out, need for skb_dst() might come from some
packet schedulers or classifiers.
This patch adds new helper to cleanly express needs of various drivers
or qdiscs/classifiers.
Drivers that need skb_dst() in their ndo_start_xmit() should call
following helper in their setup instead of the prior :
dev->priv_flags &= ~IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE;

Instead of using a single bit, we use two bits, one being
eventually rebuilt in bonding/team drivers.
The other one, is permanent and blocks IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE being

One should not call blocking primitives inside a wait loop, since both
require task_struct::state to sleep, so the inner will destroy the
outer state.
sigd_enq() will possibly sleep for alloc_skb(). Move sigd_enq() before
prepare_to_wait() to avoid sleeping while waiting interruptibly. You do
not actually need to call sigd_enq() after the initial prepare_to_wait()
because we test the termination condition before calling schedule().

This preprocessor check is commented out ever since this file was added
during the v2.3 development cycle. It is unclear what it purpose might
have been. Whatever it was, it can safely be removed now.

Several spots in the kernel perform a sequence like:
skb_queue_tail(&sk->s_receive_queue, skb);
sk->sk_data_ready(sk, skb->len);
But at the moment we place the SKB onto the socket receive queue it
can be consumed and freed up. So this skb->len access is potentially
to freed up memory.
Furthermore, the skb->len can be modified by the consumer so it is
possible that the value isn't accurate.
And finally, no actual implementation of this callback actually uses
the length argument. And since nobody actually cared about it's
value, lots of call sites pass arbitrary values in such as '0' and
even '1'.
So just remove the length argument from the callback, that way there
is no confusion whatsoever and all of these use-after-free cases get
fixed as a side effect.
Based upon a patch by Eric Dumazet and his suggestion to audit this
issue tree-wide.

This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must
set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage)
to return msg_name to the user.
This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the
recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak
uninitialized memory.
Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't
need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the
recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must
cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets
msg_name to NULL.
Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David
Miller.
Changes since RFC:
Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a
non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't
affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the
address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of
verify_iovec.
With this change in place I could remove "
if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0)
msg->msg_name = NULL
".
This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore
msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL.
Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change
comments to netdev style.

The only part of proc_dir_entry the code outside of fs/proc
really cares about is PDE(inode)->data. Provide a helper
for that; static inline for now, eventually will be moved
to fs/proc, along with the knowledge of struct proc_dir_entry

The current code does not fill the msg_name member in case it is set.
It also does not set the msg_namelen member to 0 and therefore makes
net/socket.c leak the local, uninitialized sockaddr_storage variable
to userland -- 128 bytes of kernel stack memory.
Fix that by simply setting msg_namelen to 0 as obviously nobody cared
about vcc_recvmsg() not filling the msg_name in case it was set.

Add a new constant ETH_P_802_3_MIN, the minimum ethernet type for
an 802.3 frame. Frames with a lower value in the ethernet type field
are Ethernet II.
Also update all the users of this value that David Miller and
I could find to use the new constant.
Also correct a bug in util.c. The comparison with ETH_P_802_3_MIN
should be >= not >.

I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived
list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member)
The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter:
hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member)
Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only
they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking
exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate.
Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required:
- Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h
- Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones.
- A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this
was modified to use 'obj->member' instead.
- Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator
properly, so those had to be fixed up manually.

proc_net_remove is only used to remove proc entries
that under /proc/net,it's not a general function for
removing proc entries of netns. if we want to remove
some proc entries which under /proc/net/stat/, we still
need to call remove_proc_entry.
this patch use remove_proc_entry to replace proc_net_remove.

The br2684 does not check if used vcc is in connected state,
causing potential Oops in pppoatm_send() when vcc->send() is called
on not fully connected socket.
Now br2684 can be assigned only on connected sockets; otherwise
-EINVAL error is returned.

Now that we can return zero from pppoatm_send() for reasons *other* than
the queue being full, that means we can't depend on a subsequent call to
pppoatm_pop() waking the queue, and we might leave it stalled
indefinitely.
Use the ->release_cb() callback to wake the queue after the sock is
unlocked.

Avoid submitting packets to a vcc which is being closed. Things go badly
wrong when the ->pop method gets later called after everything's been
torn down.
Use the ATM socket lock for synchronisation with vcc_destroy_socket(),
which clears the ATM_VF_READY bit under the same lock. Otherwise, we
could end up submitting a packet to the device driver even after its
->ops->close method has been called. And it could call the vcc's ->pop
method after the protocol has been shut down. Which leads to a panic.

The immediate use case for this is that it will allow us to ensure that a
pppoatm queue is woken after it has to drop a packet due to the sock being
locked.
Note that 'release_cb' is called when the socket is *unlocked*. This is
not to be confused with vcc_release() — which probably ought to be called
vcc_close().

The vcc_destroy_socket() closes vcc before the protocol is detached
from vcc by calling vcc->push() with NULL skb. This leaves some time
window, where the protocol may call vcc->send() on closed vcc
and crash.
Now pppoatm_send(), like vcc_sendmsg(), checks for vcc flags that
indicate that vcc is not ready. If the vcc is not ready we just
drop frame. Queueing frames is much more complicated because we
don't have callbacks that inform us about vcc flags changes.

The pppoatm_send() does not take any lock that will prevent concurrent
vcc_sendmsg(). This causes two problems:
- there is no locking between checking the send queue size
with atm_may_send() and incrementing sk_wmem_alloc,
and the real queue size can be a little higher than sk_sndbuf
- the vcc->sendmsg() can be called concurrently. I'm not sure
if it's allowed. Some drivers (eni, nicstar, ...) seem
to assume it will never happen.
Now pppoatm_send() takes ATM socket lock, the same that is used
in vcc_sendmsg() and other ATM socket functions. The pppoatm_send()
is called with BH disabled, so bh_lock_sock() is used instead
of lock_sock().

The atm is using atmvcc->push(vcc, NULL) callback to notify protocol
that vcc will be closed and protocol must detach from it. This callback
is usually used by protocol to decrement module usage count by module_put(),
but it leaves small window then module is still used after module_put().
Now the owner of push() callback is kept in atmvcc and
module_put(atmvcc->owner) is called after the protocol is detached from vcc.

There's really no excuse for an additional wmem_default of buffering
between the netdev queue and the ATM device. Two packets (one in-flight,
and one ready to send) ought to be fine. It's not as if it should take
long to get another from the netdev queue when we need it.
If necessary we can make the queue space configurable later, but I don't
think it's likely to be necessary.

excessive queue bloat) which did something very similar for PPPoATM.
Note that there is a tremendously unlikely race condition which may
result in qspace temporarily going negative. If a CPU running the
br2684_pop() function goes off into the weeds for a long period of time
after incrementing qspace to 1, but before calling netdev_wake_queue()...
and another CPU ends up calling br2684_start_xmit() and *stopping* the
queue again before the first CPU comes back, the netdev queue could
end up being woken when qspace has already reached zero.
An alternative approach to coping with this race would be to check in
br2684_start_xmit() for qspace==0 and return NETDEV_TX_BUSY, but just
using '> 0' and '< 1' for comparison instead of '== 0' and '!= 0' is
simpler. It just warranted a mention of *why* we do it that way...
Move the call to atmvcc->send() to happen *after* the accounting and
potentially stopping the netdev queue, in br2684_xmit_vcc(). This matters
if the ->send() call suffers an immediate failure, because it'll call
br2684_pop() with the offending skb before returning. We want that to
happen *after* we've done the initial accounting for the packet in
question. Also make it return an appropriate success/failure indication
while we're at it.
Tested by running 'ping -l 1000 bottomless.aaisp.net.uk' from within my
network, with only a single PPPoE-over-BR2684 link running. And after
setting txqueuelen on the nas0 interface to something low (5, in fact).
Before the patch, we'd see about 15 packets being queued and a resulting
latency of ~56ms being reached. After the patch, we see only about 8,
which is fairly much what we expect. And a max latency of ~36ms. On this
OpenWRT box, wmem_default is 163840.
